We enjoyed our stay Room was very "old town key west" and we enjoyed the pool a lot. Prob too much lol. The only thing i have to say is the rooms need some decor and art, there is nothing! Kinda dismal. But, who cares. Its key west get the heck out of your room and enjoy Staff were nice, it's a good value especially now while 75% of the hotels are price gauging after covid. Vending, ice. Breakfast snacks and coffee. The only thing was it was a little hike to duval st. I prefer the orchid key or hyatt. But, who wants to pay $900 a night! Smh read more

Winter Getaway February 2023 Three cheers for Simona! From the moment I walked in the lobby she was all smiles and very efficient at checking me in. I've been to Key West some hundred times before and have stayed in over a dozen hotels over the years. La Pensione was lovely. A bit dated in the common areas but my room was huge. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the bathroom was modern, had solid fixtures and was spotless. Every member of the staff I met was wonderful. I am very much looking forward to my next stay here. Tip: Back of the hotel is best. It is on Truman Street which is also the end of US 1 so the traffic can get a bit noisy. read more

Nice property on a very busy street. The location was very good, but the noise was bad. We had Room 205 (very nice with nice porch) which faces the busy street. We like to sleep with windows and doors open, but this was not possible. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable (Simone is awesome, she recommended great restaurants). They said Covid prevented a real B and B breakfast. I'm not sure why Covid prevented a breakfast?.... Pool was fine. read more

The hospitality was wonderful and it's close to everything. The upstairs balcony wraps around the whole second floor and it overlooks the pool. We were able to park by the bed and breakfast and not have to worry about paying for a lot down the street. There is complimentary breakfast every morning with bagels, cereals, toast, coffee, juices, breads, fruits, and eggs to choose from. Our room was clean and was kept that way during our visit. This B&B is very charming, and romantic. The room we requested had a wrap around balcony overlooking one of the main streets Truman. It was clean, and extremely conviniently located, we were able to walk anywhere and everywhere. The Inn keeper, Frida, was super sweet and helpful, they even have bicycles you can rent right there, for a great price. And the breakfast is delicious, homemade waffles, fresh fruit, an assortment of breads and eggs. Its close enough to Duval Street, but far enough away that you can enjoy both the partying, and a romantic getaway. read more

Great place. My wife and I work for the airlines and spend a lot of time traveling. We picked La Pensione bases on Yelp reviews and are very glad we did. We landed in key West and called from baggage claim about a room. All that was available was the deluxe king, but Simona gave us a AAA discount. We can't say enough good things about Simona, great hostess and a wealth of information and help. She has some great stories. The location is great, close to Duval St and all the sites. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The only thing we didn't care for was the street noise and the outdoor patio lights that lit the room up at night. Breakfast and social hour in the kitchen was fun and we meet first from all over the world. Once again, great storys. We will be back. read more

Very cute and quaint for an older home within walking distance to everything! Well decorated, hot hot water, beautiful bathroom too! If you want to sunbathe at the pool, you'll need to hit the timing right. Small window due to being in the back between buildings. Also- old, heavy doors that are noisy when people come and go. This was our first time staying here and it will not be our last. The house is easy to get to - it is located on Truman Avenue about 2 blocks from Duval. One big plus: complimentary onsite parking. The house is beautiful. It has two floors with a wrap-around balcony on the second floor. Breakfast is served in the morning on the first floor. It's a simple continental affair with bagels, English muffins, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee. I smelled waffles and perhaps some oatmeal, but these were not ready made, which leads me to believe that they are made-to-order. This being a bed and breakfast, breakfast is included in the room rate. The service was wonderful. The breakfast area, as well as all other areas of the house, are kept clean. There is a pool in the back of the house. Bikes are available for daily rental. I overheard a couple renting a couple of bikes and the price came out to $28 for two bicycles for the entire day. The bikes are kept in the pool area so I was able to take a gander. They are nice, new bikes. As for our room - very nice. We stayed in room 8 on the second floor. All rooms have a king-size bed, except for one room which has two doubles. Our room had a king-size bed. There is plenty of space in the room - so much so that there is a love seat in it. Double doors open to the second-floor wrap around balcony. There is a table and two chairs right outside of the room. This makes for a nice, quiet spot to relax. The view is of Truman Avenue and the property. Housekeeping did an excellent job of cleaning the room. read more

The staff was wonderful, helpful, and friendly. The house is located a few blocks from Duval St. A short walk or they also rent bikes. Room 9 is huge and in the front of the house with multiple french doors to access the balcony. There was a good variety of breakfast foods available. Normally my wife and I try to experience new things but we both agree that, when we come back to Key West, we'll be staying here. read more

Perhaps my visit was on some sort of 'off day' but much like the rest of the reviews... We were greeted warmly by staff and accommodated well. It seemed promising based on these reviews and it is a great location as well. Hopeful... We opened the room and it was INSTANTLY like walking into a wall of stench. The smell of feet and body odor was so unbearable that we within moments had to resort to opening the windows.... Which had no screens (non Florida residents.. Screens are necessary with the size of bugs and lizards that crawl around here). Desperate, we purchased a candle in an attempt to relieve this over baring stench of foot fungus is and drool and it really didn't relieve much of the odor... Wifi is TERRIBLE. Hope you have an intact unlimited data plan if you decide to book this perpetual chamber of funk. When I climbed into bed, stains ALL over the sheets. No TV or mini-refrigerator in our room either. And breakfast... Hope you like peanutbutter and soggy fruit... I'd give this place zero stars if the staff wasn't so friendly and the location wasn't so close to the main strip. Very displeased and unsatisfied. Move it right along.... read more

This B&B was great! Location was great a couple blocks from Duval. Upon arriving we were greeted and all the staff was just awesome. The house keeper Roland has to be by far head and shoulders above any type of hotel experience I've ever had. Brandon at the front dest was very friendly and easy to talk to. We booked this bed and breakfast for our birthday/35th anniversary vacation. We are so glad we did. The place is on the main street in Key West and close to everything. We had set up late check in and got there after the office was closed but had keys to our room. It was a first floor room that was very comfy and homey. The next morning we met the manager Cindy who is fantastic! She made waffles and gave UA champagne when she found out it was my birthday. She gave us a lot of promo coupons and set up renting us bicycles for 2 days. We would sit on the big front porch and talk with her which made us feel welcomed. The grounds are well maintained by Ramon who did a great job housecleaning. The salt water pool was really nice and warm and felt fantastic after a long day riding bikes and exploring the island. Stay away!!! I come to Key West twice a year and have never had such a disappointing experience. First negative was that everyone has the same key for the front door and their room. So what's the point?! The worst part was the staff. The guy that works there and is supposed to welcome you was the worst hospitality employee I've ever had to deal with. He was so rude and unprofessional. My sister was able to come along at the last minute so we had one extra person in the room. They basically told us that our stuff will be removed from the room if we don't show proof of another accommodation. He kept on arguing that he knows the law but couldn't show me anything in writing. In the mean time there is a brochure in the room that states that the charge for an extra person per double room is $50. And if this was not enough he accused my sister of having a fake Id. Saying "he has worked in clubs for years". The Id is from RI and we are in our early 30's. I guess this is not the only job he's bad at! The whole house and room have this awful stench of mold and body odor. There are also stains on sheets, decorative pillows,blankets and everything is extremely old. The breakfast was also nothing to be desired-soggy fruit, frozen waffles and cheap coffee. There are many great B&B's and hotels in Key West. Spend the extra $20-30 and have an enjoyable vacation ;) read more

What a jewel in Key West! The Inn was perfect from front to back and the waffles were amazing! There were 3 of us staying so we were placed in room #4 which has 2 double beds. The room was very spacious and it overlooked the pool! The bike rentals were in perfect condition. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a cute B&B ! read more

I was strongly dissatisfied with La Pensione. I have been coming to Key West basically ever year and I have never been treated like I was here. We had one extra friend tag along for our trip which made 3 girls, we were pretty much pulled aside without even taking a sip of our coffee the next morning and told there is only 2 people per room we explained it was unexpected to have our 3rd person and we would pay whatever penalty/fee. The staff immediately rejected and said it's a LAW to have two people in the room we were staying. Which contradicts a Department of Florida document posted in room where states "extra guest $50" in a bed for two people. Staff was rude and very disrespectful. I DO NOT recommend this place and will make sure to mention to all friends and family who visit to stay away. read more

I almost hate to tell everyone how amazing this little gem of a B&B was for fear it will always be booked if the word gets out! This gorgeous building is located a few leisurely blocks from the hustle and hustle of the "quieter end" of Duvall Street. It's just minutes from the nightlife of Key West but far enough for a restful sleep. We had Room 9 which included a large comfortable bed with great pillows, several french doors out to a beautiful front-facing balcony with rocking chairs. There is on-site parking and access to a lovely little pool and bike rentals if one so desires. It was the first time in Key West for my best friend and me. Upon arriving, one of the owners, Janie, could not have been more welcoming and helpful to us. Her suggestions and cheerful demeanor made us feel right at home. The abundant continental breakfast of beautiful Florida fruit, freshly brewed coffee, bagels, and hard boiled eggs reminded me of the continental breakfasts in Europe and were the perfect way to start the day. Janie was always available for pleasant conversation and to help us plan our day, but was never intrusive. She even surprised us with mimosas on the morning of my friend's birthday! She really was the perfect host! The accommodations and grounds were very clean and tidy. The other guests were pleasant and quiet at night. We really fell in love with everything about this place. I never understood why people would go to the same place on a vacation every year. On the rare occasion I get time away for a vacation, I rarely return to the same place twice. La Pensione and Janie have definitely changed my thinking, because the next chance I have to get away, I guarantee I will be heading right back to Key West and La Pensione. We stayed here two nights, and loved it! It's a couple of blocks from the quiet end of Duval Street, but it's easily walkable. We were close to everything we wanted to see, but enough off the beaten path that it was never noisy - except for the roosters who woke us up in the morning, but I don't think you can get away from them! The lady who made the breakfast was helpful, the bed was comfortable, the shower was great, and the pool was relaxing - I think we were the only people who used it during our stay. They provide coolers, beach towels, and you can also rent bikes. We'll be sure to stay here again on our next visit to Key West! read more

Overall we enjoyed our stay at La Pensione. The issues were primarily with the property and the parking. My understanding is that these issues will be resolved in the near future by new owners. The room We stayed in was there nicest and biggest room. The Bedroom faces Truman street with all the noise and lighting that would keep one awake. The room floor was covered by a green rug that was very old. The rug also was hiding a broken floor board or two. The mattress of our bed had also seen its day and should be replaced. read more

We had a great stay. La Pensione is housed in a lovely Victorian Mansion. The rear yard contains a great pool and the setting is reminiscent of a New Orleans courtyard. We could have spent our entire trip back there. Rooms come with a breakfast that is way above average, The public areas and our room were spotless. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The hotel does have parking and it was great to be able to walk everywhere and leave the car in one spot. Duval St is about 4 blocks away. There is so much to walk to. The hotel has free wifi. Booked this place about 3 months before Memorial Day Weekend arrived. The BF and I love to stay in B&B's, but surprisingly we've never experienced one in KW. This place was exactly what we wanted! It caters to whatever you are looking for. On a very busy weekend, such as Memorial Day weekend, we found tranquility, romance, and craziness just 5-10 min away! We stayed in room 3 which has its own private entrance through the back and easy access to the pool. We brought our own bikes, but they are available for rent. The bikes are an excellent idea and we made it to Duval street on our bikes in about 10 min or maybe even less! The room was perfect. They say room 3 is one of the smaller rooms but I found it to be the perfect size. There is no TV in the room,but who needs a tv when you're in KW! The innkeepers were super nice and helped out with anything we needed and the breakfast they cooked up was very tasty, especially the waffles! Can't wait for round 2 next memorial day! read more

La Pensione was a great B&B in the Keys. The hospitality was excellent and everyone was very sweet and helpful. It is within walking distance to Duval Street, which is one of the main streets that has all of the main shops and restaurants. I think the rooms were pretty large, clean and confortable, but you must know there is not a television in the room. Although, you really don't need one with all the things to do on the island. The breakfast was fresh and satisfying and my overall experience pf the B&B was fantastic and would definately come back again to La Pensione! read more

La Pensione is in the top 3 of my worst lodging ever. We prepaid for two nights, and left after one day because of the lack of sleep due to noise. We selected the Pensione because it was far enough away from Duval street so we thought it would be quiet. But, it is located on Truman, a major artery for Key West. We heard whining scooters, loud motorcycles and trucks all day and night. Second, there was a loud party in the back yard next door that ended about 12PM. Third, the manager lives on property and decided that their apartment above us needed vacuuming from 8:30 until 10 PM. Fourth, the garbage truck decided that 7:15AM would be a good time to do their rounds. Fifth, Key West airport flight path above us became very loud from 8:30 till 10PM. Sixth, I love our military, but the fighter jets overhead early in the morning were a bit loud (fortunately the road traffic helped to drown out the jet noise at times). Seventh, at 7:30 AM the pool maintenance person started to bang on pipes and knock things around. If you like noise, especially after you spend $280/night, then book the La Pensione. The staff did not offer me another room even though I saw the vacancy sign out on their yard sign. I got repeated "Thank you for staying with us", basically a scripted response to any issue. When I called Hotels.com to inquire about a refund for the second night hotel staff gave a solid "No". I wanted to share our experience for anyone to consider for their visit to Key West. read more
