This was the second time I've stayed at this small hotel, located a short walk away from Duval Street. I first came here with my partner back in 2011. I can't believe how much time has passed but when we were deciding where to stay on our latest Key West trip during the New Year, I remembered our stay previously. I have to admit, the first time I came here I thought it was just okay. Coming back the second time, I don't know, I just loved it. I think circumstances have changed since my partner and I now have kids. And we loved that the room was spacious and offered a full kitchen and dining area. Everyone we interacted with at the hotel was so friendly, and helpful. They went out of the way to make us feel welcome. There was free parking on site, which was so nice. And a bike rack was very convenient since we ended up renting bikes for our entire stay. When we first came here, the hotel offered breakfast. This is no longer the case but we didn't mind since we could make breakfast in the room each morning. There is a pool in the center of the hotel. We spent hours here each day and loved that it was heated since it was a little chilly outside. The warm pool felt so nice and we loved that they kept it at a good temperature where you could go into it despite the chill in the air. We would 100% come back here again. We loved it. read more

I would give this place zero stars but the location was nice. The pool is also fine. The room was filthy and not maintained. I have a lot of photos I hope I can post with this review so people can see what we received for our money. There were ants everywhere. I even found dead ones in the fridge. They were crawling throughout the kitchen, on the stove, counters, fridge door etc. and I picked up my phone off the end table at night and they were on that. No food was left out at all. They gave me a can of Raid to use which brought very momentary stop to the issue so I sprayed constantly during the three days. Everything was rusted. The soap dispensers, the filthy fridge, the toilet paper holder, the closet door slide, etc. The floor was filthy. The blinds were broken, and there was no way to lock the door except the door handle. Kitchen cabinet doors didn't shut. There was no deadbolt or chain lock or anything beyond the key lock to provide security. We've been to Key West before and stayed at fabulous places. However, we had not stayed here. After our stay here we stayed elsewhere in the Keys for three days that was beautiful and maintained. An occasional bug is to be expected but this place needed serious maintenance, cleaning and exterminating. We met wonderful people staying there who had similar concerns. We stayed here for 8 nights because it was very close to a venue nearby that we attended. This is about 4 blocks from Duval Street. They have 8 or 9 bungalows and was built in the 50's. We stayed in room #1 that had a king sized bed (yay), small sitting area and kitchen. Outside is a decent sized pool and a place to meet your neighbors. Believe it or not, met up with some friends that were also going to the wedding that we attended nearby. During the day, gates are left open. But after 5:00 they are locked. So don't forget your keys. If you're arriving after that or need anything just text the manager Steve. He'll get back to you pretty quick. Husband and I spent three nights at Alexander Palms Court. We had booked back in January, emailed the property with a few questions about the room we were inquiring for our stay. The manager was prompt with a reply and answered our questions. When we arrived, we were placed in a different room than we booked, which was a nice surprise. We stayed in room #2, a larger room. There was a little living room space with a futon bed, small TV and end tables. Our unit has one bedroom which was a little small, but completely doable for two people. The bedroom has a queen bed, and a closet. Just ahead from the living room area, was a kitchen, full size refrigerator, sink, stove/oven, and many cabinets with dishes, glasses, silverware ,toaster, blender and a coffee maker and microwave on the counter. Everything you could want if you wanted to cook a meal, warm up leftovers, etc. There was also a kitchen table with 4 chairs. Bathroom has a standing shower, which was a bit on the small side; but we've stayed at motels at the Jersey shore with smaller. But it was clean, tiled, some toiletries available in the bathroom. Pam was on duty when we checked in, she was welcoming, friendly, showed us around to where pool towels were, ice and water. Throughout our stay, she was helpful and always smiling, you can tell the staff wants every guest to enjoy their stay. They make you feel at home. The best amenity at this adorable bungalow hotel other than the staff, was the pool. In the South Florida heat, the pool was a wonderful respite. We spent time in the pool daily. There are pool noodles, rafts, and other pool toys available for use. The property reminds me of 1950s Old Key West. The colors, layout, is quaint and the courtyard filled with different kinds of palms, outdoor tables, chairs, loungers and picnic type patio furniture. It is not a brand new property, that was obvious. But we honestly loved our stay here. Location was in a quiet area, couple blocks from Duval St , and Higgs Beach. A few eateries were close to the property, a short walk. If you are looking for a small, intimate property, away from the loud of Duval, but not too far, this would be a great choice. read more

We stayed here for one night earlier this week and loved our stay! Wish we had more time to spend at this gorgeous property. The lady the reception was super nice and helpful with suggestions on where to go to take pictures and to eat. You are not too far from anything if you stay here; at most it's a 2 mile radius. We arrived sort of late in the day so decided to walk but rent a bike! It costs about $15 a day and is much better way to explore this beautiful town vs being on foot. The room has a kitchen, patio, living area and the pool is right outside the front door. The bathroom is pretty small; not much room to move around. We hung out at the pool for a bit and had a good time with the other people staying at the property. The parking outside the property is very limited but there's plenty of street parking available. They are not serving breakfast right now due to COVID-19. read more

QUALITY Alexander Palms surely has quality! I write this review after having stayed just two nights but seen what the keys have to offer and what something like Alexander Palms has to offer. Sure there are many hotels, bed, and breakfasts and so on right on Duval street, however, Alexander Palms, just a little off the main road, is a nice spot for all. Close to the Southernmost Point and other points of access, all and all, the quality for our stay was top notch, from the staff to the individual cottages, to the wonderful complimentary breakfasts, and so on, quality sure was exceeding our expectations. QUANTITY Though we only stayed two nights, quantity sure was great at Alexander Palms; in particular, the number of amenities - as in the size of the cottage, space, the common areas, and absolutely the complimentary breakfast every day. Properly and ready to go so were the workers and everyone around for us. Quantity in a little bed and breakfast was perfect what more could we ask for our weekend anniversary getaway. VALUE Without a doubt the value for what we paid for two nights for our weekend getaway was exceptional. Alexandra Palms features 5-7 individual little cottage-like houses in what was likely converted condo or apartments from many years ago. Whatever the case may be, the value sure was there. Not only did we get a great night sleep, however, privacy and everything else was great and the luxuries of a much higher end than breakfast or hotel were noticeable. We also received a complimentary breakfast every morning which sure added up and so affordability was exceptional. AMBIANCE We're talking about Key West with this review and so one would expect and hope that the ambiance was laid back and relaxed. So was the case at Alexandra Palms; there were a couple of other families or couples staying, one of which had children, but everything was relaxed, and the ambiance made it feel so. We as guests would meet near the poolside for our breakfast sometimes. seeing each other in the afternoon, evening and this kept the Key West vibe relaxed, chill and wonderful. CROWD As stated above in the ambiance part of my review, the crowd was nice, calm, relaxed and chill. I feel as though some people were from out of town and some people might have been from close by. Either way, the crowd comprised of many different folks was great. We made a few friends and I even gave help with directions as a tourist myself. Being that I am from South Florida I felt as though I could lend a little bit of South Florida knowledge - I hope my words of wisdom made it a better stay for some. SERVICE I mentioned in the above paragraphs that the service. thanks to the individual little cottage settings and surely the complimentary bread and breakfast every morning was outstanding. When we first arrived, the woman who checked us in had everything ready to go and was expecting us. The payment was already on file and our key was ready. Everything was explained thoroughly leaving us with zero concerns. We felt safe every time we came and left the premises and knowing there were locks on the front gate after six PM was an added insurance for our belongings and well-being. When we saw a worker at Alexandra Palms, it was met with a smile and everything we might have needed was attended to immediately. PARKING Like many of us, getting to Key West was by car and so parking would be of concern. One of the reasons I chose Alexander Palms was true because I had read that ample parking was available. I drove up and took the only and closest spot I could and sure enough, this was perfect. There were spots for the other patrons and if they're not enough, just across the street were more. I was more than happy about this and though we never moved my car once during the trip, it was nice to know I would be in good hands with a spot always available. EXTRA Sure Alexander Palms is not on Duvall and maybe a little short walk from anything - except of course the Southernmost point - which it is VERY close to - however everything else about this spot is awesome and I cannot wait until our next Anniversary when we may decide just to go right back and have another great Key West visit and trip. This perfect little no frills adorable motel is the ideal place for a Key West stay. Like the rest of the rest of the island it is super friendly and laid back. There are only about 11 rooms here so people kinda get to know each other by the pool and there is a nice camaraderie. The pool is very lovely with ample seating...one of the best places to lay out in key west in my estimation. It's situated two blocks away from the southernmost point and three blocks from Duval Street. But keep in mind the section of Duval Street with the bars we all know and love is a bit of a hike. But Key West is quite walkable so it was ok with us. Also of note, the guy Steve that works here is really cool and friendly. I almost hate to say how fantastic this boutique motel is for fear it will be harder to book in the future. Firstly, Steve and the rest of the staff treated us like family. We'll try to stay here from now on when we're in Key West. Most of the rooms are kitchenettes, and they have a great continental breakfast laid out every morning from 7:30-10am. We used the grill a number of times since the fresh seafood at Fausto's Market, just a short walk, is amazing. The free trolley stops a couple of blocks away, Dog Beach is two blocks away, Duval is a few blocks, and Southernmost Point is 4 blocks. Essentially an awesome location and because of the location you won't likely end up with people shouting and screaming next to you at 3 in the morning. The saltwater pool is an oasis on this beautiful island and a place to start, end or take a break. Lastly, since there on 11 rooms, two sets of adjoining, you feel like you're at home away from home. My family and I arrived at the Alexander Palms Court on a gloriously sunny day, following an exhilarating drive across the Overseas Highway. From Key Largo all the way down to Key West, we were amazed at the beauty of the blue-green water and the splendor of the Keys. Our excitement peaked when we saw the "Welcome to Key West" sign and we couldn't wait to get to our room after spending several hours on the drive down from St. Petersburg. When we finally got to Alexander Palms Court, I was immediately impressed with how charming and welcoming the entrance appeared. I found the office, nestled to the left of the main entrance. I was greeted by the warm smile of Carol who welcomed me and spent some time annotating a map to show me several highlights surrounding the hotel. Her pride for Key West was apparent and I loved her enthusiasm as she gave me these suggestions. The Alexander Palms Court has, in my opinion, an ideal location. Being on the more residential and quiet side of the island, you get to feel more like a local. You will also very much appreciate the tranquility of this spot. Rest assured that this is not a sleepy side of town at all, you are still surrounded by quaint shops, great places to eat, and a short walk to beaches. Strolling east on South St, towards Duval, you'll find treasures like The Lobster Shack and a very nice small grocery store and cafe called Ana's Cuban Cafe where you can purchase everything from sunblock to wonderful Cuban coffee. When you get to Duval Street, turn right and a 25 minute walk will find you at Mallory Square, tourists and locals alike congregate for sunset every day. We roamed the island on foot, enjoying the beautiful scenery and the sunny weather. Coming back to our room following each outing was a very welcomed respite after a long walk in the June sun. Each time you stroll through that happy gate at the Alexander Palms Court and see that welcoming swimming pool with its cool blue water, surrounded by lush tropical plants and towering palms, you'll feel so happy you chose to stay here. Every morning, our hosts would provide a pool-side breakfast spread. Coffee, tea, fresh squeezed orange juice, bagels, fresh fruit ... everything needed for a continental breakfast that will fuel your strolls through this beautiful paradise of Key West. My wife and I really enjoyed sitting in this courtyard as we enjoyed our coffee each morning. Our room was so cozy and comfortable. I've read some reviewers who complained about this place not being updated, providing extreme close ups of caulk or door moldings. These people are obviously not focused on the abundance of charm and beauty that a boutique hotel offers. If you want the ultra-touristy "Holiday Inn" experience, there are many of those on the island. However, if you truly want to stay somewhere brimming with the soul and charm of Key West, do not hesitate to stay here. I can assure you that I plan on staying here when we return to Key West. Our room was cuter than I expected ! It had a nice little private patio and kitchen area. They locked the entrance gate mid afternoon so you could only get in with your key which made it feel safe. They have a purified water machine for the guests to use. They are really good about communicating through text, but are a little harder to get a hold of by phone for reservations. Over the Christmas holiday, we went to Key West with some friends. This was a holiday getaway and this property seemed like a good option. Our intention was to find a property that was quaint and fun in an area that was close to everything we wanted to do and give us a true feel of what Key West had to offer. On our arrival and after signing in we were given a tour of the property from the office manager who was pleasant and had a great personality. She was informative about the property and giving us information about things to see and do while in town. The curb appeal is nice and the courtyard was super cute and well decorated for the holidays. Even if it wasn't the holidays, the area was lush and seemed pretty well maintained. The pool was the focal point of the courtyard with many rooms that surrounded it. Similar to a "Melrose Place" type layout. At night the area was lit with different colored lights which was suiting for this area. They even had Holiday music piped in. Nice touch. We reserved Unit 9, located just off the pool and next to the office. As far as room locations go, I think it was pretty good. The complimentary breakfast set-up was right outside our room. With the office next door allowed us to have a good Wi-Fi signal which I understand wasn't the case in many rooms. When we first walked into the room, it had a pretty good open feel with a kitchenette off the main room. It had a good sized bed (I believe Queen) and then a futon in the living area which could fold out if needed. The décor was bright in color where the bed was and off white in the rest of the room. One thing that was off was it had a very "clinical" smell. I think it's time to change the chemical products. The bathroom was "retro" style. It had a new sink and toilet which was nice, however after that it went downhill for me. The retro tile was ok and I understand where they were going, but it has seen better days. What wasn't great about it or the rest of the bathroom was the lack of cleanliness. The chemical smell when we walked in the room was clearly not from cleaning the bathroom. In a word the bathroom was filthy. I can deal with the "outdated look" as long as I know the place I am staying is clean. The room that you would expect to be the cleanest and where the most time should be spent by a housekeeper was not given much attention at all. Right when we walked in there was noticeable hair in the shower, sinks, places on the wall, and on the toilet there was a very long strand of hair. Around the light switch and door frame was filthy dirty. The hair dryer plug was broken and could be dangerous if used. The shower head had calcium deposits that made it so only half of the shower would spray. The light fixture above the sink was not only rusted in many places the bulbs were of different assortments that looks hodgepodge and frankly just lazy. The walls had many gouges as well as the framework that had been painted over which over time it starts to look tacky. Not a huge deal, but coupled with lack of cleanliness, it's not good and starts to make you wonder about the rest of the room. Bottom line is it's hotel 101 to have a clean and functioning bathroom. The kitchenette was unusable. Why? It too was not clean and had ants. It's no wonder; I was able to find crumbs from a previous guest's food. I will never prepare food in a room that not only isn't clean, but has a problem with insects. The walls were "white" but honestly this would be a great opportunity to get a bucket of Key West colored paint and give the room a cute Key West feel. Instead it was plain and totally drew your attention to how unclean and outdated it really was. When you open the refrigerator, the door was rusted on the top. This is unacceptable. If you can't maintain the appliances, then don't have them. The bedroom/living area was fine. Given the state of the bathroom and the kitchenette I had some reservations. The bed itself was actually very comfortable. We could have used some kind of night stand as there was none on either side of the bed. The floor lamps were fun and had a "palm tree" look to them and the artwork for the most part was appropriate for Key West, but there was a couple that seemed "garage sale finds" and didn't go. There was a kitchenette table with two chairs by the door which was handy. The bed nook was a nicely painted lime green, but I would like to have seen them take this concept a step further and bring some more color to the rest of the room. A complimentary color or something other than the drab white that just shows flaws would have been an improvement. Overall, I would say the property is cute but there seems to be a lack of attention to detail when it comes to cleaning and the decorating seems at times inconsistent with the overall feel of the entire property. This is a major fail and probably the reason I would never stay here again. read more

Stay here. There, I've gotten that part out of the way. What can you say to recommend a hotel/B&B in Key West? The front office staff is friendly? Of course they are-- they flippin' LIVE in Key West! The scenery is beautiful? Once again, DUH. But the Alexander Palms is a funky, friendly, lovely little place. I liked the small touches -- every day, the housekeeper would not only make my daughter's bed, she would arrange her stuffed animals to make them "comfortable." The continental breakfast (tropical fruit, bagels, croissants, good coffee and dreamy pain au chocolate) was filling. But, of course, the real attraction is the pool. Beautiful, warm, slightly salty, and ever-so-inviting. We hit it twice a day for the week we were here (you do the math). Landon and Rick are glad to concierge for you -- we used them to rent bikes, arrange our Tortugas trip, even find a hot sauce store. Since you're located a block from Ana's Cuban Deli, I'd recommend renting bikes to tour the island. read more

There are so many places to stay in Key West it is hard to decide without a friendly recommendations. I lucked out finding The Alexander Palms Court on my own via bedandbreakfast.com. It was terrific! Just two blocks north of Duval near the Southernmost Point (the QUIET end of Duval). This is a small quaint 50's retro style motel/B&B with a wonderful pool area. The rooms might need some updating but that adds to the retro character. All of the rooms face towards the pool/courtyard. Our room was very clean, the linen was fresh, the beds were very comfortable and everything worked. Sad to say we left way too early in the morning so didn't get to experience the breakfast. Landon was the best host and even had a cold beer for me when I arrived. I can't say he will have a beer ready for everyone and will probably hate me for telling everyone about that part of my experience. He said I needed a beer after I had just arrived from participated in a running relay race from Miami to Key West. I agreed and asked if he had one. I wanted to echo all the other reviews here. It's not the most luxurious place on the island, but if you want that, there are crowded and expensive resorts for you. My fiancee and I stayed here just in time to get stuck in Key West thanks to "Hurricane" Isaac, and had a blast. The staff are simply fantastic and made sure we were all set for a day of rain and wind, including exchanging personal cell phone numbers, directions to emergency shelters if necessary, and so on. Fortunately, none of that was necessary. Our stay was great and we constantly marveled at how lucky it was that we checked one last time in the area before booking at a nearby overpriced hotel. The place is funky, the location is great (the quiet side of the island, but an easy walk to the main drag on Duval), and the price just can't be beat. It's also a short walk to Ana's Cuban Deli down the street, another place that strikes me as just quintessentially Key West. The place has free wifi (with varying reception in the rooms, but plenty strong to sit by the pool in the morning and read the news), a continental breakfast, and endless charm. We absolutely plan to stay here again when we return to Key West, and you should too. read more

Great little hotel with a comfortable bed and great shower. Those really are the most important things to me when traveling for work. Stayed many times in key west and many rooms are too tiny and too expensive. This room was just right for the area. Quaint, clean, reasonably priced (for the area). Would get 5 stars if they had in room coffee and more parking spaces. I know parking is at a premium in key west so I understand, but my hubby and I had to drive around for awhile to finally find a spot several blocks away. There is a nice continental breakfast set up outside by the pool with coffee available at 7:30, but we had to walk through the rain one morning to get to it. We enjoyed this hotel with its throwback feel and cozy, friendly environs. There is a lending library and pool towels, which we were even able to take with us out to the Dry Tortugas (thank you!). The pool area was lovely, and our children loved it--it included pool noodles, an inflatable donut and a floating mat, all providing much fun. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, and we appreciated being able to book the extra suite room so everyone was comfortable. Full kitchen in suite adds great option to be able to cook if one wants to. Also continental breakfast was another plus. This hotel was SO CUTE! I stayed here for 3 days for a bachelorette party and the location couldn't have been better! The rooms were perfect and fit the 7 of us perfectly! We were in rooms 1 & 1A which consisted of a king bed, a double bed, and a couch that turned into a double bed. We spent a lot of our time at the pool which was again SO CUTE! The palm trees had lights around them all and looked beautiful lit up at night. There was breakfast every morning as well which we took advantage of every morning. Adorable little hotel, very close to the southernmost point, and Duval. The pool and outdoor area has tons of character. The staff was friendly and informative. Free communal pool towels, pool floats, and complimentary breakfast that's served pool-side. The room was clean and spacious, with a small kitchenette (room #9). It was perfect for our overnight stay. No central AC but the wall unit cranked out really cold air. Also, there's limited parking... But free parking nonetheless! We stayed here over New Years. The motel just a few blocks from downtown. The location was great and so were the folks who ran the Alexander Palms. Overall it was a decent value for new years. However the bathroom as tiny and needs to be updated. Additionally there was an occasional critter (lizards) in the room. read more

My fiancé and I have found our go to place when we visit. What an amazing experience. The woman at the front desk helped us with everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even a sunset cruise. The rooms are cosy and very cute! I loved the laid back feel, and the privacy. Don't forget to take a dip in the salt water pool. Not a bad walk up and down Duvall, it was a nice way to sight see! If you are looking for a nice retreat without all of the noise, this is the perfect place! We will definitely be visiting again! read more

Stayed here earlier this month for four nights. Staff; Sandy and Langston are the best. Very helpful and nice to work with. Very accommodating and interested in sharing info about places to eat, etc. Its a fairly old property, but is very clean,with a small pool and a gate which is locked at night. Stayed here last week 10-13-14. Loved loved this place. It's so darn cute, the rooms are style like you were in the 50's but soooo cute. The Rainforest shower head was amazing. Pool looked amazing but we didn't have time to go swimming. closed to Duval and Southernmost Point. The staff were amazing. I can't wait to stay here again my next visit to Key West read more

Alexander Palms is an awesome place to stay. It was very clean, the staff was overly helpful and friendly. Devonna was there to help up with everything we needed. Every morning there was breakfast provided with coffee, juice, tea, fruit, bagels and yogurt. It was just a short walk fro Duval Street. It was the perfect place to stay on the island and I felt like I didn't have a care in the world!! read more

Me and my girlfriend stayed here this past summer and half of the reminiscing that we do about our trip involves this hotel (and our trip was awesome!). The owner was INCREDIBLY nice and very accommodating. She was very knowledgeable about local restaurants, reef tours, bike/ scooter rentals, etc. She also gave us coupons to most of these places. The room was very comfortable and our room had a fully stocked kitchen. The location is close to Duval, you're two blocks away from a bike/ scooter rental place, there's free off-the-street parking. I could honestly go on forever about this location but I need to not do that. Honestly, when you consider this hotel is one of the most affordable places to stay on Key West, it's interesting people look anywhere else. I know I personally will be staying here every time I return to the Republic. Also, every morning she puts out a good, light, breakfast; perfect for getting out on (or in) the water without a full stomach. Fifteen of us, ranging from a baby to some grandparents, stayed at Alexander Palms for five days for a family get-together. It was perfect for our needs. Staff was helpful and accommodating, especially Jonna, who arranged for bicycles, made great suggestions for restaurants and activities, and provided us with discount coupons for a very nice dinner cruise. Breakfast was free, available all morning poolside, with something for everyone. Coffee was really good! The rooms were comfortable, and it was great to have kitchenettes, as we cooked and ate dinner family-style most evenings. Maid service was excellent. The pool was sparkling clear and clean. Room rates are quite reasonable, something we had to keep in mind with a group of people with assorted purse sizes. Granted, it's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it's a clean, quiet place, and it was family-friendly and just right for our group. read more
