I love me some Cuban food. We don't have many places in Portland, with Pambiche and Cubo de Cuba being the only other two places I know of, but they are all simply great. I was working in NYC in my 20s when I was brought to a Cuban place a few blocks from where I worked over in the Flat Iron district and I've loved it ever since. Cubanos, Media Noche, fried plantains (sweet or savory) and of course Ropa Vieja. These are the usual go to items I have to try. La Perla is at one of the newer food pods out on 82nd. Eastport Food Plaza. 17-20 carts, nice seating and plenty of room to spread out. These guys are at the south end of the pod and you should go. You will not leave hungry. I was looking at the menu and saw some of the usuals but one item stood out. It was a different take on rope vieja (which is on the menu) but the meat was fried. Vaca Frita. Rice, black beans, yummy green sauce, salad, a little Cuban flag and fried beef. The little crispy parts mixed with the chewy, plus peppers and those wonderful black beans? Yeah, you want this. The green sauce wasn't spicy, but Cuban food usually isn't. The meal was very flavorful and quite filling. So good and I want more. Granted, I've only had food from three of the carts out at Eastport, and want to try several others, but I will make back to La Perla fairly quick. It's nice to have some Cuban food out closer to where I live. Enjoy and support local.

10/10 first time trying Cuban food and I will definitely be returning. Very flavorful. Chef was very friendly and seem like a great guy. Mucho gracias!

This page says they are closed, but that is an error. Truly tasty food. I ordered the lechon plate, maduros and yuca fritas. Everything was delicious and generously portioned.

The flavors perfectly melded together....if this is Cuban food, I wanna visit Havana. The sweet fried plantains were an excellent finish to the complete meal. The portion size would have been gut-busting for one person but just right as a light lunch for me and my better half . Service was friendly & quick, even during the busy weekend lunch rush. Anyone who tries to engage customers has an edge in my opinion! It took a little longer than some food from other carts in our group, but not the longest. However, this spot wins for presentation! Wow! HUGE sandwich! Plantain on top with a little Cuban flag! The sandwich was hot pressed, full of tasty meat - with a hard to identify, savory flavor - delicious! The cheese could have been melted more. I would definitely get again! The sauce was good, too!

The vibes were 10/10 I pulled up a barstool and the menu had a lot of solid, tempting options. I went with a pressed Cuban sandwich topped with fried egg, bacon strips, hollandaise and sliced avocado. Had a beer and a shit, tasty. It was PERFECT. Their space is very colorful and has a lot of fun energy. Their menu is pretty focused but the items all sound very tasty. We went with an Empanada of the day, The Cubano, and the Bandeja. Their focused menu certainly paid off when you see how fresh and well-executed their dishes were. The empanada of the day was a mushroom and cheese. It's made fresh so the cheese was nice and gooey. Their crust is different from what I'm used to. It seems to be a mix of maize and cornmeal rather than flour. I think it gave a nice crunchy crust and slightly chewy inside. A bit small for the price though. The Cubano was again made fresh. Bread was nice and crispy. Inside was filled with hearty meat and cheese. A solid sandwich, especially when paired with their pico de gallo. The start of the meal was easily the Bandeja. You can choose between chicken and flat iron steak for the Bandeja; we went with the steak and we weren't disappointed. It's cooked medium-rare, making the steak super tender. The outside crust was well-seasoned and flavorful. The Plato came with a lot of other tasty things like a perfect over-easy egg, rice and beans, avocado, and the best chicharron I've had. It's small but packed a punch. The outside was crispy all around while the fat layer was still melt-in-your-mouth soft. This dish had everything, perfect for sharing. The staff were attentive and friendly. Happy hour is from 3-5PM on weekdays. All in all, we had an amazing meal and will be spreading the word of their goodness for sure.

I have not really had Cuban food before so I didn't really have any expectations and or knowing to what to expect for flavor. There were so many dishes I wanted to try, but I decided to try their special of the day, the Vaca Fritto Bowl. This was a great decision because it had a little bit of everything-- sweet and savory. Everything in the bowl was delicious, with the flavors and textures complementing each other. I was super excited to get to try the tostones without giving up the maduros. Our family always ordered the maduros at a favorite San Francisco place in the Haight, and I've always wanted to try the tostones. With the bowl, I didn't have to decide, which was awesome because both were fabulous. The avocado was perfectly ripe, as was the mango. There was ample seating inside and outside with a colorful and festive vibe. I look forward to returning and bringing my lobster.

The atmosphere itself is classic for what you'd expect of a family run restaurant. There's nice decor on the walls and welcoming music playing. The sandwich was rich in flavor and the meat itself was super tender. The bread was also delicious as I know it's made fresh locally. Some of the bbq flavor and the mayo I couldn't taste so it might have felt slightly one note but it was a good note to say the least. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area.
