This place is incredible. Be aware that they are not for you, unless you have a pet who is in need of an important surgery or operation. Some people leave them bad reviews because they go in there and they expect refills of flea meds and things like that. They work with animals who are in need of important surgeries. If you want a regular vet for regular goodies I don't think this is the place. However they can absolutely save your ass if you need help with your pet's medical condition... they work with referrals from certain organizations. If you are descriptive and patient, then you will be served. read more

Beware!!! They killed our 11 year old cat! Refused to give us his medical records and proper paperwork. Did not have a good reason. Blamed it on his heart but he didn't have heart problems only bladder issues They told us he needed surgery and they required to keep him overnight but they didn't inform us they do NOT have a 24-hour staff! Our cat died all alone. From what?? We don't know how. They are negligible, dishonest and the entire facility is old and gross! Unfortunately, we are not rich and this was the only place we could afford. The vet didn't even meet us once. No apologies were given. He didn't care. They do not genuinely care about your pet. Watch out for their creepy vet assistant as well. His shoes were very dirty, he looked unprofessional and he had bad energy. Young guy with a bad attitude towards the front desk lady. Oh my goodness, this vet clinic is awesome. They called us for our Scottie, 2 days before we had been scheduled. Another vet came in and thank God as Katie was getting sicker by the hour. My daughter arrived in time for blood work, then IV's and the following night she had bladder surgery. Her poor bladder was full of stones and 1 irregularly shaped stuck in her urethra. They took excellent care of our fur baby and she came home the follow afternoon. Other clinics wanted to charge twice what this clinic charged. We couldn't be happier trusting LA Pet Clinic with the life of Katie. It's a very long drive with traffic, but we've found our vet clinic for life. Thank you to the office, lab team and the doctor. My two cats have been patients of Dr. Reina at LA Pet Clinic since they were adopted as kitten rescues in 2010. It's too bad that LA Pet Clinic is no long accepting new patients but it's understandable since Dr. Reina is the only vet at LA Pet and there are only so many hours in the day to care for animals. Best vet in LA. I don't think he's taking new patients though. Dr Reina is a compassionate vet who truly cares about our furry ones. He's taken wonderful care of my cats, dog and even my pet rat! Dr. Reina is the absolute best. I had had a previously terrible experience with another vet (whom I reviewed probably 8 years ago), and upon leaving that practice I found LA Pet Clinic by referral and lived happily ever after. My very first visit, sitting in the waiting room with the rest of Dr. Reina's long term clients, who had been bringing their pets here for the past 25+ years-- I got it. The facility itself is small, and jammed a bit tight, but where the decor may lack, the service makes up for it by far. My old girl just recently passed, but up until our very last moments, I always trusted Dr. Reina and his staff with any and all of their advice and guidance. They were always clearly communicative and reasonable in their assessments. I've even had checkups where I'd gotten home to find something I forgot to get looked at and they let me bring her back, free of charge. On top of all this, LA Pet Clinic is still the most reasonably priced vet in the area. I could go on and on with all the details of how they've been so incredible over the past 10 years of our lives l, but it's not necessary...because it's my understanding that they're too booked up to take any new clients anyway. If you somehow find a way to get your pets here, you are very very lucky, because Dr. Reina and his staff are hands down the best in LA. read more

First time dog owner here. Rescued a terrier. She's been licking her paws a bit and wanted to get an exam so decided to make an appointment. My mother referred me here so decided to try them out. First off the secretary who answered the phone, you could sense the attitude right away. We tell her why we called she proceeds to tell us she can't see the dog if it's skin related so okay understood but she still takes the appointment for just an overall exam. I showed up today the day of the appointment and called to check in. The same secretary is checking me in. Again you can sense the attitude right away. She asked for basic info so gave it to her. She ridicules me for not having paperwork on the dog's history which is funny because she didn't mention anything on the call about paperwork. Again I rescued her and this is my first dog so how am I supposed to know. As soon as I mention the licking of the paws and couldn't even get to the exam part she cuts me off and she proceeds to tell me she told us that they don't see dogs for any skin related issues and that she told us that on the phone. So why book the appointment knowing what we said initially and if you don't want to give her an exam, great I'll go elsewhere but why take the appointment. Didn't offer to refer me to someone who could help just kept giving me attitude. I indicated I thought it was an allergy so wanted to check on that. She still said that's skin related so we can't see the dog. This lady shouldn't be working in customer service or anything related to talking to clients. She made me feel like, first of all, they don't care at all and secondly, like I did something wrong. If she's got that much attitude for a simple appointment being that rude why would anyone want to come here. I know the doctor is good, really good but my goodness hire some people who can do their job with a smile on their face. Y'all are here to help animals. This review is long overdue. We wanted to express our gratitude to Dr. Reina, Theresa, and team. Our two fur babies have been under his care for almost 15 years! He is honest, caring, empathetic, and straight to the point. He doesn't over price or recommend unnecessary procedures. This is a no frills office so don't expect a bougie over-priced clinic on Melrose. It's a cute little local business. He is a great doctor and great at diagnosing. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to be a vet in these times of the industrialization of pet care. In these times when people have become suspicious of vaccines and medicine in general. I just had a pet emergency and their staff, was immediately waving paper in my face to the tune of 12k. If I had the option to give LA Pet 5,000 stars it wouldn't be enough. Their lobby is shabby. They keep weird hours. You will not get a call back until you do. But I have been bringing my various animals to this community of techs headed by this kind, brilliant vet and I feel humble to have seen him touch my animals, listen to them, and then with extreme, conscious care recommend a course of action. Dr. Reina is a rare gem. He truly cares about the animals. We have used him for years. His prices are reasonable too.

Great vets, great technicians, great staff. Busy and cramped location with a small parking lot. Low prices that simply can't compensate for the high quality of service, but somehow they make it work. Every group of people in the waiting room is part of a community. Everyone who works at LA Pet Clinic is part of the community. There is so much heart and soul in the services they provide that it's like you're bringing your pet (domestic house cats, in my case) home to mom. Expect a wait if it's a busy day. Ask questions if you need to, Teresa is more than qualified to answer. Dr. Reina is a gem. Charity, Jessica, the newish young man whose name I don't remember, the man whose name I don't remember who doesn't work there anymore, the other Dr I haven't seen in a while--you have been our anchor. I am very grateful for Dr. Reina and his team. My dog was a "new patient" with an emergency on Monday 01/03/22 night (around 5:30 pm) and Dr. Reina was so kind and had me come over with my dog. My dog had a pee blockage and they kept Charly and took care of him with a catheter and scheduled surgery for the next day! Dr. Reina kept my dog for several days to make sure he is doing ok. He is a real angel and I can tell that he and his team are dedicated to the animals! And on top of that, he is giving his patients absolute fair pricing, and not like most of the other institutions around LA! Yes, you may have to wait to get feedback but honestly, I much rather wait a bit for an answer and know that my dog is in good care than vice versa. read more

These people work SO HARD. I have taken my dogs to the TLC VCA on Santa Monica in West Hollywood (nice but pricey) and the VCA on Robertson in West Hollywood (nice but a bit chaotic and still more expensive) and I think this place is my favorite. Yes, the outside of the office (and inside) isn't glamorous. Yes, you may have to wait on hold longer and there's no free dog treats or "perks" but you will be spending WAY less than any other vet nearby. I just spent $400 for bloodwork at TLC VCA for a foster dog of mine, and then learned that I would have paid around $98 for the same tests at LA Pet Clinic. Ugh! Live and learn. I really like the receptionist at the front desk. She's incredibly efficient and does her best to help you track done pet records. Somehow she handles 4 people on the phone and 5 people waiting in the office--and gets everyone in and out in a reasonable amount of time. She's a bit Wonder Woman-ish, and whatever she's getting paid it can't be enough b/c people are SO nervous when it comes to their pets. I just took my foster dog here for a spay, microchip implant and dental work. I'm going to take my own dog here for his dental work next week. Unlike TLC VCA they didn't require that I get bloodwork for my own dog b/c he's healthy and not a senior. That has saved me money straight off the bat. They keep dogs overnight or dental work which is a bit different and can be nerve wracking for more nervous pet owners but I don't mind that. So far, I have only admiration and gratitude for this place. It has taken me a LONG time to find affordable pet care in West LA, and they came highly recommended from a friend. read more

My current vet ran out of the proper flea meds that I needed, they said I would be able to have his forms faxed over to any other vet and they could issue the meds, as long as they had his forms. When I arrived I was completely ignored by staff (who seemed to be i her own world) then upon asking I was told that it was completely illegal, and I had to bring my dog in for a full consultation. Then I was also told they are booked three weeks out. I left not even wanting to deal with people that have no care for anyone, let alone their animals. The waiting room was full with nobody being helped. I quickly called the next closest animal hospital and asked them the Same thing. They informed me that as long and my current vet sent over if records everything would be fine. After another call and a fax. I was all set up and on my way. My fiancé inform that he had gone there before and would never return. Beware of this place, so many other better options. read more

A senior lady that lives in Hollywood collects cans to supplement her Social Security to feed herself and 2 dogs...I noticed one day that they both had a SUPER bad case of possibly mange...so I immediately asked her to take her dogs to Dr Reina at The LA Pet Clinic and I would pay for all costs, tests, RX etc...this lady walks MILES everyday around Hollywood to SURVIVE!! To keep her and her 2 puppies housed...shes 81 years old!!! When Dr Reina found out that I was covering all of the skin tests, updates on all vaccines, prescriptions etc...he put his HEART into the situation himself...he discounted the entire bill for me/her and they are now on the road to recovery...Dr Reina and his staff (Jessica)...soul many thank YOU!!!!! We had an urgent situation this weekend where our pug snorted a foxtail up his nose. He was extremely uncomfortable and sneezing blood. Luckily Teresa was able to squeeze us in on Friday. The Dr was great! Immediately explained to us that the pup had to be put under general anesthesia and they would scope out his nostrils to find the foxtail They readily removed the foreign object and for a fraction of the cost!! I can't give enough praise to LA Pet Clinic. Dr. Reina has been a godsend when taking care of my Frenchie. I don't really trust any other vets at this point. When I moved to LA about 8 years ago, Brulee (My dog, 6 years old at that time) was diagonsed with IVVD and could not move her legs. I didnt have much money then and I took her to an emergency care clinic that charged me $250 for the visit and wanted to charge me 10K for surgery on her back. Because I didnt trust them, I went to Dr Reina and he truly gave me all my options. For less than $150 he eased my dog's pain and gave me care instructions on how to prevent further damage to her spine. His instructions worked and Brulee was walking within 2-3 weeks with no issues. This truly confirmed Dr. Reina as my favorite vet for my dog. Since then, he's done teeth cleanings, given her allergy shots, pulled her out of different health situations without breaking the bank. I am truly thankful for Dr.Reina's care of my dog. I wish more vets were like him. It is clear he cares for animals and does his best to support the community. read more

Dr. Reina is extremely skilled at what he does and I feel at complete ease when my pets are in his care. His office is charming - the entire staff is friendly, caring & compassionate. Jen is an angel! Having an older cat who's gone through his fair share of health issues lately & the need to take him to different clinics/hospitals over the past few years due to capacity issues (since COVID, it's much harder to get appts, especially in emergency situations), which happened just last week. Thankfully, after a horrible experience at another pet hospital closer to me, LA Pet was able to squeeze my cat in so he could get the urgent care he needed ASAP. Let's be real. Dr. Reina (sp?) and his staff (Teresa and... Stephanie? or Jessica? sorry!) give the BEST care to our pets (dog & cat), and at a very fair price for people who aren't loaded with cash. My kitty had a cancerous lesion on her neck last year. It required surgery. It cost around $1000 including overnight stays, a lot of tests, return visits, the surgery and stitches and repeat bandage replacement and medicine. Most important, her neck healed beautifully. She's been with me for 14 years and I hope we have many more to come thanks to this clinic. The clinic does get very busy, so just anticipate that. read more

The Vet is a bit anti social - most of the staff is a bit quirky. But they really care for your pet. They took care of my dogs and my friend's cat. My dogs were just normal vet visits. My friend's cat had kidney failure and they helped it for a couple years keeping it healthy. Prices are great! They are great in emergencies! read more

Dr. Reina is the BEST vet in LA!!! So kind and loving with animals. 20 or so years ago he saved my cats life! I got home late one evening and discovered my cat had eaten a spool of thread from my sewing machine, and he was not doing well. I called the emergency number for the clinic and Dr. Reina met me at the clinic at around 3 or 4am. The thread was caught in my cats intestines and he recommended surgery but I was all of 20 at the time and couldn't afford it. He said an alternative was to keep my cat at the clinic on 24 hr watch and give home regular enemas to try and flush the thread out. That's what he ended up doing and it worked. A week or so later my boy was back to his cuddly self. I was so grateful that Dr. Reina saved my sweet Izzy Monster, he meant the world to me. Now, many years later, I moved back to LA from NYC, and I'm so thrilled to find that Dr. Reina and the LA Pet Clinic is still there. I currently have an 11 year old German spitz named Lucy, who was diagnosed with heart disease about a year ago. I wasn't very happy with the vet I had been taking her too so a neighbor, and fellow dog/cat owner recommended Dr. Reina and that's when I discovered it was the same vet who had saved my cat so many years ago. I was so relieved to know my little girl would be in good hands. And I will continue to bring my dog and cat to Dr. Reina. On top of the great care your pet will receive here their prices are the best in town too. The general office visit was only $38 (nearly half of what most vets in LA charge) and even the medications my dog needs were less expensive than other vets. Over time, we have had our pets treated by Dr. Reina and found the experience okay, but switched vets as I wanted more complete care and support. The clinic is very basic and services are at a great price, but that may not be a reason to go to a vet. The clinic is very busy, hard to get into, spread too thin especially during the pandemic, which negatively impacts the care and support you will receive. If you need to get in, you will leave a message and not get called back, you will wait on hold forever and wait to get hung up on. The front desk is very busy too, which shows. This impacts the information given from the front desk to the vet, their staff, and to you. Dr. R will call you back with test results that they had from the prior day at 9pm on a Friday night where you cannot get any help until Monday if you wait in your car for hours. The visits are fast and may not be thorough where mistakes can be made. My pet appeared fine until I came in for a regular visit, then we experienced severe health issues just days after. After calling and calling, and going to many visits, they did not treat the issue initially and after pushing, I got received some care, but it was incomplete. What happened at the first visit and my pet's significant health issue is directly correlated, not a coincidence as Theresa stated to me. My pet is now terminal and I have had nearly 10k in veterinary costs. I am more than unhappy and since our experience, have found other exceedingly devastating outcomes from other pet owners who went to LA Pet Clinic. I am not one to ever write negative reviews, but clients should know what does happen. I know that most visits are simple and have positive outcomes. Know Dr. R wants to help clients and their pets, but they should slow down and really do complete thorough care. read more
