Taking our girl home from the veterinary oncologist :(
    Bridget G.

A few weeks ago, without many symptoms or warning, we got the heartbreaking news that our beloved, 11-year-old baby kitty, Mayari, had aggressive, inoperable tumors. Over less than 2 weeks, she declined rapidly, and we agreed that if her quality of life seemed like she was suffering more than she was enjoying her cat life and cat pastimes, we would let her go. I'd never done this before and called 3 home euthanasia services with the best reviews. Of the 3 I talked to, we decided to go with Dr. Liz. She returned my call within minutes, answered all of my questions and concerns in great detail, and made me feel like she had all the time in the world to answer any questions I had. She offered for me to text her if I thought of anything later. She was also available the next day, and we didn't want this cat to be in pain for another 24 hours. She was very sympathetic and kind when I broke down over the phone. Dr. Liz arrived the next day and Mayari seemed comfortable with her. She explained her process and all of her medications to us, and brought a puppy pad to place under her, as well as a blanket to take her afterward (it meant a lot to us that it was actually a really nice blanket with colorful paw prints). It was more peaceful than I ever thought possible, with Mayari just appearing to painlessly fall asleep while my fiance and I were losing it. Dr. Liz then gave us a moment alone with her to say goodbye while she went to her car to put her supplies away and get the blanket. She then wrapped Mayari up and took her to Cal Pet Crematory (who have also been lovely to deal with), leaving us instructions for having the ashes delivered later. I was in no condition to function at all, and she was OK with me sending payment later that day. A week later, we received a lovely sympathy card with a heartfelt message that made me emotional. Sending a fur baby over the rainbow bridge was one of the most painful experiences I've ever had, but I'm grateful that we found Dr. Liz to be so compassionate, kind, and respectful in the process of letting her go. I'm so sorry if you are reading this review because you are researching the same thing, but I highly recommend Dr. Liz.

This was my Cat, Kanye. He wasn't looking good in his final days. Liz helped him cross the rainbow bridge.

Liz Friedman is an amazing person and vet. I had to put my cat to sleep and she was empathetic and understanding, and gave me some time alone with the cat to process. She works with a small business crematory, who was also very respectful and loving when they delivered the ashes to me. I then received a very pleasant surprise in the mail, which was a card from Liz that included heart shaped paper/seeds that can be planted. This is a beautiful memory for me to cherish in order to continue to have my pet live on.

I won't go into the specifics of what led us to finally make the decision to ease our cat's suffering, but one thing we were definitely not going to do was take our Zoey back to the vet's to put her to sleep. After all that she was going through, adding further trauma to the process was simply not an option. With a little bit of research, we found Dr. Friedman, who immediately called us back to make a house call that afternoon. Right from the start, I felt like she understood what we were going through, and that I wasn't being judged in the least for this decision. When she arrived, she was even more considerate and comforting, explaining how the process would work and offering us choices as to how we'd prefer the treatment to be administered. When it was all over, my wife and I were absolutely heartbroken, but we've said it then and continue to tell people that this was the absolute best way we could imagined handling our beloved cat's passing. It still pains us just about every night, especially when coming home to an empty house, but Dr. Friedman eased our conscience over a decision that could have very easily been a subject of regret and even more suffering.

Ask the Community - Liz Friedman, DVM

    Taking new patients?

You may want to double check. I don't think she is taking new patients for regular vet visits, but she is taking new patients for in-home euthanasia.

Are these pesticides absolutely necessary even when you take precautions like shirts and natural deterrants?

Is Dr. Friedman an holistic veterinarian? Does she push vaccines?

Holistic really means looking at the whole patient. It's not the same as a homeopath or a naturopath. I do practice western medicine. This is Dr. Friedman. I think vaccines are important for puppies and kittens. And advise on an individual basis as…

We kept coming back for the convenient location--until today. I arrived 15 minutes early for my dog's 2:30 PM appointment. At check-in, the front desk (Crystal) asked me to prepay, which was new to me. When I asked what services were included, she said only vaccines. I had previously requested microchipping a week ago, but that wasn't noted. She mentioned a 3 PM cancellation slot, but I told her to hold off since I couldn't stay much longer. After waiting over an hour, I asked a different tech about the delay. Then Crystal blurted she had moved my appointment to 3 PM to include all services--something she NEVER communicated; which I pointed out to her, I asked to speak with a supervisor and continued waiting. We were finally taken to a room, and 15 minutes later (total of 1hr 15min LATER) , the doctor entered and accused *ME* of being disrespectful to her staff--which is completely FALSE. I believe the front staff member BLATANTLY LIED to cover her own condescending and unprofessional behavior. I was upfront with the doctor and encouraged her to review the cameras. As a business owner myself, I know you never put a customer on the defensive--especially when your feelings are hurt because someone called out poor service. That's a training issue, not mine. This experience was not only upsetting but also makes me question how much the doctors enable their staff's mediocrity. The lack of communication, professionalism, and customer service is evident from the moment you walk in. I stand by my word: !!! review the cameras!!! I was never disrespectful--not once.

Finn is extremely shy and particular, and giving him fluids at home just isn't an option. We also made the intentional choice not to associate his one safe space, home, with anything painful. At the clinic, it sometimes takes three nurses to support him, one to gently hold him, one to feed him churro (his favorite distraction), and one to administer fluids. And they do it all with so much patience, compassion, and genuine care. Because of this team, Finn is not only stable, he's doing so well. Truly, I believe they've saved his life. Their way of connecting through text and call was prompt, easy to reach, and thoughtful. They were the ones who diagnosed Coffee with degenerative heart condition and gave me treatments. Alot of other vets that I go every year never diagnosed him, only told us he has a heart murmur but didn't go further than that. They were very detailed about Coffee's condition, something I appreciate because Ive always been questioning his condition. Fast forward to a few weeks ago Coffee started having a smell that smelled like death. We took him to this vet again. The vet was direct, informative, and well intentioned. Before we could consider putting Coffee in any procedure we made sure to do some tests. Less than 24 hours later the vet called us to immediately request us to come back to explain the results. The results, while devastating, was handled with vigilance and care. The vet gave me time to cry afterwards in the room. They did all they could for my boy. In emergency they printed out the files so if his condition worsened were he had to be taken to the emergency, the papers were already there. I originally scheduled a euthanasia appointment with them but Coffee peacefully passed in my arms before then. They recommended this amazing place called Honor Pet when it comes to giving me and my dog peace. Thank you so much for doing your best with Coffee. Im very grateful.

The lobby and patient rooms smell fresh and clean in a very neutral way, without smelling either like animals or like too much cleaning product - comfortable for both animals and humans. There is typically plenty of parking during business hours, with a relatively quiet parking lot, so you can easily wait with your pet in the indoor seating or outside. Typically not crowded indoors, so if you have a scared or reactive pet, there is plenty of space in the large lobby / reception area to sit with your animal companion without them being too close to other patients. The pet scale in the reception area is flush with the floor, and because it's in the lobby, you can assist with your animal being weighed before they head into the back area with the staff - this is very helpful for scared and energetic pets who may need help sitting still. The staff are terrifically kind and helpful to both animals and humans. They are patient, they listen to your requests and feedback and help process your stress around a sick or injured animal. The doctors are skilled and thorough, and will help you through the complicated processes to make the best decisions for your animals. Payment and procedures are explained in advance with clear language and paper (and/or digital) estimates outlining cost and potential emergent medical choices. Reasonable prices. Ask about vaccine discount days! Best of all - they don't have an "emergency" fee for same-day or walk-in appointments! Even so, it's smart to call ahead if requesting a same-day appointment so you won't be waiting long with your stressed pet. Honestly, my dog loves the staff here.

After speaking with other hospitals, I truly believe the cost elsewhere could have easily been several times higher.
