They're both extremely knowledgeable and have always followed up with me post appointment thru email. My dog is 17 years old and while I take him to get his teeth cleaned monthly not anesthetic. It reached a point where they said that he's in a lot of pain and he needs to get a couple teeth out given that he has heart issues. I am congestive heart failure, and 17. I was very scared to move forward with the procedure and after asking high and low and everyone in Los Angeles, I chose The Veterinary Care Center. Dr. Braxton, Max, Monica, everyone that I interacted with their really really really cares and they're very very good at their job jobs and I couldn't recommend a better veterinary practice. I am happy that I found The Veterinary Care Center and that they've taken such good care of my little monster. He needed 14 extractions!!!! Scary at any age but 17?! Can't stop raving about this place! Maybe more so because the day prior, had the WORST SCAM experience at Urgent Paw Care in Duarte. So where do we start... Our family dog got viciously attacked by a pitbull while taking his daily walk on a leash. We took him to our vet right away, but really couldn't see any marks due to his dense hair, but was advised by the vet, if we see anything, come right back. The following week while giving him a bath, that's when we noticed a puncture in his skin the size of a quarter! We took him right back to the vet and he advised we go somewhere where they would accommodate surgery if needed. After calling MULTI places, I finally found Urgent Paws (and although it was 15miles out) we decided with all the great reviews, we would take him here. On the phone, the assistance was great, and even when we walked in (we were the ONLY ones there) the VA's where great. Gentle with the dog, caring, petting him for assurance. Then we waited for almost 15mins + for Dr. Brown to come in. Right off the bat, her vibe was not assuring. My dog did not feel comfortable with her AT ALL. From the door, she had the VA give us a muzzle to put on my dog (which I understand for some dogs may get vicious). She then comes, checks his pulse, just LOOKS at the wound (doesn't even TOUCH IT) and walks out. 15+mins later, the VA comes in with the estimate of procedure. The exam fee was $141 They stated we needed surgery (once again without even really LOOKING at his wounds) and the cost would be $2500+ - $3500+ depending. AND that doesn't guarantee that they would be even ABLE to finish the procedure. If during the procedure they feel they cannot finish, then we would need to get transferred to ANOTHER facility. They told me I can get some time to think about it, BUT if I decide to come back the next day, since it would be ANOTHER doctor that would be looking at our dog, they would charge us ANOTHER $75 and the assessment from THAT doctor might be different. WHAT! It seemed like they were just out there for the money.. So, I decided to call my friends with pets and contacted The Veterinary Care Center in Hollywood. They were REALLY friendly, and I got a spot for the next day @ 10:30am. When we arrived, staff was great. Didn't have to wait long for Dr. Klem to come in. He was SO friendly, even got comfortable with my dog, and was looking around his whole body not just for that one injury, but incase he had others from the attack. They gave me different options, but I was told that he did NOT need surgery, and if they cleaned the wound, it would eventually heal itself within a month. BUT If we really did want surgery, it would cost $1500 - $1900 (due to his age and weight). OMG! The best place ever! AND their assessment charge was only $85 VS Urgent Paws $141.. Urgent Paw's Fee $141 (nothing done) The Veterinary Care Center Fee $455.65 (everything included with a happy dog) Thank you so much! I used to love this place bc of Dr. Sandoval but she's not there anymore! Next time I was there for my cat, they tried to tell me I HAD TO CHIP my cat in order to get a health certificate!!! Twice!!! I told them to show me where this is stated bc I googled it right there and told them it's not mandatory then they said never mind!!! NEXT I called to make an apt for my cat for an ultrasound they said I have to make a sept apt to go in to see if the dr recommends it first before they book. So I would have to pay twice when I could just pay for 1 visit! Why TF would it matter what the dr recommends if IM PAYING FOR IT ! Last time I was there they said blood work was normal for my boy who's skinny and we did X-rays. Something is clearly wrong. These people are so ignorant and are scammers!!!! read more

This review is long overdue. I want to start off by first impressions. On my first visit with my senior dog, I noticed how everything was clean and it did not smell like medicine,loved that! But what captivated me was the manner in which the technicians and the doctors approached my dog. First they talked to me and slowly approached my dog. Then, once he seemed comfortable with them they started the examination. This was the first veterinary center in which my dog did not bark at the technicians or the vet. That was a great sign! Because he would always be on alert with his previous vet. I've seen several doctors and they've all been polite and kind when talking to me about my dog. They are not pushy with treatments or other things. They've all explained everything with great detail. The staff in the front have always been polite in person and on the phone. Making appointment hasn't been an issue. The prices are reasonable, can be alot at times but im happy with the care they provide and in the end it's my choice to pay. read more

Veterinary Care Center is our go-to primary care veterinary office, and Dr. Goldman has always been a guiding light for us. During our most recent visit, he wasn't available, so we saw Dr. Brownell for the first time--and we were very impressed. We brought our dog in to have a wound on her side checked. Dr. Brownell suspected it was an abscess and consulted with the surgeon. They both agreed that our dog would need to be put under anesthesia to properly clean and evaluate it. As we were preparing to schedule the procedure for the next day, they took her to the back to run some blood tests and lightly clean the area. What happened next was something we never expected--our dog suddenly collapsed and stopped breathing. The team reacted immediately and began CPR, and thankfully, they were able to revive her. Dr. Brownell brought us into a private room and explained everything with such kindness, compassion, and care. She recommended we go straight to the emergency room and specifically suggested VCA West LA because of their excellent ER and cardiology team. She didn't just send us on our way--she personally called ahead to let them know we were coming and explained the situation in detail to the ER Veterinarian. The entire Veterinary Care Center staff was incredible. They came out to the lobby to check on us before bringing our dog out, and when they did, one of the techs, Max, kindly helped us get her safely into the car. To say we are grateful would be an understatement. Their professionalism, quick action, and genuine compassion made all the difference during a terrifying moment. They take 1-2 days or longer to review Chewy prescription requests. My other dog's vet always approves them the same day. Also, a current negative heartworm test from their office isn't enough for them to approve flea medication prescriptions; they also require an exam. My dog was overdue for her flea meds, and VCC wouldn't approve the prescription unless she came in for an exam. So I switched to a vet that doesn't have this ridiculous policy. read more

The vet technician simply walked out with my dog and medication. - filed a complaint with Hospital manager Elizabeth about unpleasant experience . Hospital manager left for the weekend before providing any resolution or feedback. It has been a week and still no response or follow up from anyone. This place is a joke of an establishment and a sorry excuse for a veterinarians office. Came for a friend's pet for the first time and was not impressed. The vet was rushed, both in the exam and how my dog was handled. I waited over 30 minutes to check out with no updates, while my dog was stressed and unwell!! When I finally asked, the front desk girl acted like I was inconveniencing her-- attitude, eye-rolling, and nasty tone. Requesting basic paperwork was a hassle! This isnt my first rodeo lady. The experience was unpleasant. I would never bring my PRECIOUS babies here or recommend to anyone. Its not worth dealing with when Vet visits are already stressful for both the owner and pets, why would i want to deal with rude, careless, nasty service on top of it? Plenty of other vet places provide better care and professionalism. Go elsewhere. I recommend LAASER for 24/7 emergency situations or PAW PRIORITY (for both regular & emergency care) ON MELROSE DOWN THE STREET. read more

If you need care for any of your animals , I'd highly recommend making an appointment with Dr. Bouganim! My dog Luna , was dealing with some bad allergies this spring/summer. Even bathing her fur, did not stop her from scratching. Noticed that her neck from scratching on and off had turned into a hot spot! Called regarding my dogs issue and was able to get an appointment for the week after. Day of the appointment, Dr. Bouganim listened to my concerns, let me know what steps were happening regarding the hot spot , shaving the area, keeping it clean etc what might have been the causes of the hot spot forming, and gave clear, easy instructions for my dogs meds, to help in treating the above issue. As you can see, on the photos below was the hot spot after Dr. Bouganim shaved, and after it healed! Night and Day, can't even tell Luna had any hair shaved off for her skin issue. The staff here is extremely incompetent with a complete lack of care and consideration for their clients and pets. Conflicting, disorganized, over priced and extremely unreliable in what they communicate. My dog had acute diarrhea and instead of being thorough and responsible they misguided us about the process resulting in my dog suffering for an additional week. All of which could have been avoided had the staff been more attentive and transparent. It seemed as though were deliberately trying to get as much money out of us by slowing down the diagnosis and communication. They even charged us for something we never ordered. They have some really wonderful doctors whos work is being harmed by terrible staff that needs better training, starting with the CEO/ manager Earl who is apathetic at best and clearly lacks the ability to empathize. I will not be going back and do not recommend this place if you care about your pets. read more

I brought my dog here for a check up. The facility is very nice and the staff was kind, but I feel they are price gouging. My dog needed a tooth removal and wart removal, and they wanted to charge me low end $2572, high end $4047. I went to another vet, and the quote they gave me is $1296 for both the tooth and wart removal. Over 50% less than this vet was trying to charge. I'm disappointed because they use terms like "your baby" when referring to your pet which seems a little emotionally manipulative. If you're looking for veterinary care, I encourage you to get another quote. I only had to get one other quote to find that they were overcharging at this facility. Btw, got my dog's procedure done at the other vet and everything went perfectly. Saved $2700 if it had been VCC's "high end" estimate. read more

My pet and I have been coming here since he was just 6 months old. I have never had any complaints about the doctors or vet techs who have been treating my pet and I for the last 3 years!! The only complaint I would make is the male receptionist who occasionally answers my calls as his attitude seems unprofessional at times. I understand the vet can get busy but when I ask him to simply email me a copy of my pet's vaccination records, he does not do it and when I call back, he gives me attitude about the vet being busy right now so I'm next in line? I don't see how quickly emailing a copy of my pet's records he just pulled up 5 minutes ago can be interfering with his busy work as I know for a fact they have 2-3 receptionists at the front... and then he sends it to me as I told him it's a bit urgent which he could have done before I called again. I don't know his name but every time he's the one who answers my calls to the vet it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. read more

This is a terrific facility, as evidenced by the volume of traffic and the number of people who have been going there for years. If you want to see the same vet every visit, that takes a little bit of work, but it's doable. I doubt that there is an inexpensive vet in LA who is worth his salt, but prices at VCC are in line with or slightly better than comparable businesses. When my preferred individual vet left VCC, I followed, but I came running back as soon as his service standards began to slip. Bring your pet to VCC with confidence. read more

Took my dog pepper since he has anxiety with groomers and issues with getting his nails trimmed I needed something prescribed for him and they were very helpful and provided me with what I needed. Staff was very nice and helpful I was only in there for about 30-45 minutes ( I had an appointment ) they charged 100 to hold my appointment,for the visit fee they stated it was 82 for the actual exam and they stated if prescribed medication the reaming would go to that. The medication my dog was prescribed was about 16 dollars so I was just refunded the remaining amount. They were very honest with the prices and always checked with me before doing anything additional. Would come again read more

Dr. Odeliah Bouganim is amazing. My dog is not the easiest to say the least and doesn't get along with most people, especially vets/groomers he bites and could get very aggressive. Whenever we see Dr. Bouganim he is calm, obedient and lets her take care of business. Her calm energy rubs off on him. Front desk staff are also really helpful and nice. Its never crowded, never smells, lots of parking available for clients. Very recommended! read more

You are risking your pet's life by going here. What a disgusting, abusive, careless excuse for a veterinary clinic. This place shows zero respect for clients and complete negligence towards our pets. You will get passed around in a sick game of telephone amongst the various unskilled front desk workers whose lack of training and decorum becomes downright malicious as they try and gaslight you when confronted. Each time you call, you will get redirected to someone who hasn't bothered to look into your pets file or check any existing communications or records. These people will literally refuse to see you after asking you to come in immediately due to an emergency they caused. They will not update your phone number on file despite being asked multiple times. Following a recently botched neuter procedure, these people failed to prescribe my dog the appropriate medication dosage, causing him to be overly active during his immediate recovery period, leading to a tear, then a hematoma, then an infection. Upon consulting a new vet, the dosage they gave my 50lb bulldog was barely appropriate for a cat. Instead of reevaluating the dosage upon our SECOND follow up visit, I was accused of failing to put my dog into a cone at all times (at no point since bringing him home had the cone come off). The dosage I was sent home with was the same. Do not let these charlatans abuse your pets. Avoid at all costs. read more

I need to write this review asap. When I have good experiences anywhere, I always mean to write a good review and then time passes and I forget and I don't want to forget this one. My partner and I are dealing with a medical mystery right now so we have a strange and rare situation which we need a basic throat swab test on my cats but for a very, very unique condition to see if by chance they could be carriers of the illness and be treated. I asked my (*now previous) vet and they acted like I was crazy and said no. I called almost ALL major animal hospitals in LA, they all said no and were also unwilling to offer any advice or help in any way (Which I guess I understand, they're not getting paid and the world rarely runs on compassion anymore.) So in searching, I came across a diagnostics place that could process the test- he said it's simple, but he's not a vet center, so they don't actually see animals or take the samples or write prescriptions- they only receive samples and read the test. So I had to go through it all over again... I needed to find someone who would do the test swab on the cats and allow me to take it to the diagnostics center or send out... and if it comes back positive... prescribe medication. And the same issue arose... after spending hours calling all hospitals, absolutely no one would do such a thing and zero help. I just felt defeated and honestly really stupid bc of the responses. I'm very aware that what I'm asking for is very unlikely the actual issue with my cats and unorthodox- especially if no one will test- it's probably not the thing- I've just been quite desperate to figure this out- but I definitely felt crazy and really stupid after all this. I had brought one of my cats here to Vet Care Center for an urgent/evening matter many months ago and had a good experience, so after feeling defeated and devastated, on a last hope- I called. And as everyone else did- they said they don't do this test... HOWEVER- all-though very reluctant at first, the receptionist was actually willing to go a little further and speak with the manager about my situation. Not only did the manager respond... but he actually personally called me back and had SO MUCH compassion for my situation- even if I sounded crazy, he didn't make me feel stupid and treated me like a human. He listened to my concern and even was willing to go above and beyond to work on my case with the specific testing diagnostics center just for me bc I had been talking with them already. He even called them himself to discuss it. His name is EARL. He went out of his way to make this happen and said "Bring him on in and we'll take care of it." It's all I'd wanted to hear all day and felt like such a breath of fresh air. Especially with heightened emotions from dealing with our own medical issues. Regardless of the test results- which will very likely not answer the medical mystery that my family is dealing with, but because of Earl, we can at least say we tried and will bring a little peace of mind bc we can rule it out. He didn't have to do any of this just like everyone else, but he made it happen and my partner and I are so grateful. I don't have a ton of experience with the rest of the company, they were very nice and thorough when I went months ago- but if he's managing it- I'm sure it's wonderful every time. IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR PET DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE! They never seem to keep your pets' record. It's insane! They always try to give my dog the same vaccine that we literally just got. For example, almost every visit they ask if we want to give her the rabies vaccine. EVERY VISIT! When they do administer a vaccine, my dog always has a severe allergic reaction that they never want to take responsibility for. Her eyes end up swelling up and, when we call them, they force us to take her to the emergency room and claim it's a "bee sting." Which is ridiculous, as there are no bees in our apartment. To be honest, I don't even trust they are giving her the correct dosages of these vaccines and medicines. As I read other reviews, I don't seem to be alone in thinking that. Every single time we come here, no matter what we come for, my dog leaves with some sort of weird sickness, panic and fear. We've been coming here since our dog was a puppy, but it's becoming more and more apparent that they don't really care. They just want to bill for anything they possibly can. They want to run as many tests as possible and suggest pulling teeth left and right (mind you, they had recommended pulling 9 of her teeth as a puppy!). They told us that it isn't unusual to pull all of their teeth... WHAT?! Clearly, this is a business more than ANYTHING else. read more

I discovered this vet during covid. So the procedure is a bit different from what I am used to. You park in their parking lot and call their number to have their technician come take your pet in. That said, I really like this place. Even though it is in Hollywood, they have a parking lot. The place looks new and clean. The receptionist on the phone is so nice and helpful. If you care about your pets please do not take them to the Veterinary Care Center. They clearly have too many patients (as evidenced by the hours I have spent waiting in their parking lot) and while I'm sure their negligence isn't malicious, it is nonetheless unacceptable. Having a sick pet is hard enough, you deserve a better, more humane option than VCC. I have been coming here for years but was unhappy recently and it wasn't until I switched to a new vet that I realized what substandard care and treatment my dog has been getting. They use COVID as an excuse not to allow you in the exam room with your dog and therefore you have no idea what's really going on while he is in their care. All I can say is my dog has never had anxiety and would cry as soon as we pulled up and look traumatized when they returned him to me. I won't go into all the specifics but to name a few of the issues I experienced: --They unnecessarily sedated and muzzled him because they don't know how to keep dogs calm without a muzzle or drugs --They kept him for 3 hours to do some blood work and only later did I find out it's because the vet and her assistant were at lunch --They pushed surgery on me when there was a much safer non-surgical option to solve the problem (which worked!) --Dr Katona (who I never saw face to face) was rushed and did not have any bedside manner. Nor did she really take the time to explain the origins of the issue or walk me through the treatment plan outside of pushing a surgical option. It wasn't until my new vet showed me the x ray images and pointed to the problem areas that I realized this type of interaction was possible. --They constantly keep you on hold, never remember your pet or their issue, you're never allowed to talk to the vet when you call, they simply tell you they will leave a note and the vet will respond with an email --Their pricing is higher than other vets and they are constantly upselling you and pushing things that cost more money. I could go on but I won't. I will say that I am not one to review establishments and usually consider it a waste of time but if I can prevent someone else from going through the awful experience my dog and I had it will be worth it. read more
