We are very happy pet owners knowing that we have fabulous veterinarians for our dog , especially Dr.Bouganim DVM let's talk about our sweet dog mochi , , catching Leptospirosis infection and being hospitalized with kidney failure...What can we tell you , Mochi was literally all curled up for 5 days ready to pass away , and we took him over to the Veterinary Care Center where Dr Bouganim saved his life !! Mochi is feeling great and will be 10 years old in January 2025 Thank you and only good news

Ask the Community - The Veterinary Care Center

Generally, when should you bring a dog in for the doctor visit if they start throwing up (ie, should we bring our pup in if dog has been throwing up in small bouts over the course of an hour)?

My 10yr old pit has been shaking his head more often and licking his feet, and just last night began with diarrhea. I've been adding wet food into his regular diet, should I stop?

I'm not a vet but, typically, if a dog has diarrhea you should provide bland food like that steamed plain rice and plain chicken which binds the poop together.

How much for first time my female dog is having trouble peeing and cries while doing so?

Cindy, we need to start with an Exam. For that exam fee my doctors will then make a treatment plan. This may include lab work such as a urinalysis, and maybe even radiographs after my doctor performs the physical exam.

Do you have emergency?

We do provide emergency services for our patients during regular business hours. We do not provide emergency services afterhours.

Do they offer Radioactive iodine (I-131) therapy for cats?

Hi Lauren. We do not offer I-131 treatment. As far as I know there are 1 or 2 facilities in West LA and one in Culver City that provide his service. Also one in Tustin.…

Does anyone else have difficulty reaching Veterinary Care Center on the phone? I've called several times during business hours and keep getting "the number youve reached is no longer in service."

We have not had any other client with this issue. We resolved it by giving Laura a backline, and her phone was able to get through.

Hi, my dog has something on his right eye and it looks like a black gel bump and definitely uncomfortable for him and keeping his eye red/watery. It just appeared last week and I hope you are able to tell what it could be?

Please call and schedule an appointment. We don't recommend waiting when it involves the eyes.

Do you guys do cat allergy tests? if so what kind and the cost?

Hi Katherine, We do perform some allergy tests on our patients, ie trials for food allergy. I…

Hello! How much you guys charge for the rabies, FeLV, FVCRP vaccines? Do you guys take walk in or do I need to make an appointment?

Appointments are preferred however we do take Walk in appointments as well. We are usually able to accomodate a walk-in client within two hours at the latest, but most often sooner than that.

Do they accept Care Credit?

Yes

Do they offer microchipping? How much?

Call them 3239196666 I don't know but they are very nice on the phone

Honestly, I did not have high expectations for this vet. I do not know the area too well but by driving around, it doesn't look like an area I would be frequenting. I assumed the inside of this place would be like a run down county clinic deep in the trenches of Los Angeles. Which I've had my fair share of experiencing back in the days. I was so wrong! This place is so awesome. The girls at the front desk are so sweet and attentive! I had a lot of questions every visit, I never had a puppy before and I was really anxious about making sure she was healthy. They always answered everything very patiently and had the best attitude. Since I do not live close I would have to call over the phone for vaccination records to enroll my puppy into classes etc and I even changed her name and they'd always answer my calls and email over anything I needed. The customer service has been exceptional. I would come here simply for that alone. They decorated the office so nice, it looks newly remodeled. The waiting lobby is small but comfy. They do not push for any specific food brands which is refreshing. They always call to remind you of an appointment. The people and their dogs that I've seen here all are very friendly and it looks like everyone comes for routine and not because their dogs are sick. I love that! The prices are fair, they're not low by any means but they're not outrageous. I find them to be decent for the services. I really appreciate the care they provided for my girl, she was here quite a few times due to being a puppy. We now go to a place closer to home because I don't live in Los Angeles. It's honestly the only reason. But I highly recommend this place to anyone in LA looking for a good vet!

Unfortunately, my experience changed in 2024 when a veterinarian working under his supervision mixed up my two cats, resulting in incorrect diagnoses. Tragically, both of my cats passed away one after the other in 2024. One of my cats suffered from great pain during his last moments, because he was given steroids even though he had heart problems, which was misdiagnosed. I was only finding out about the misdiagnosis from my cat's autopsy which was done later at an independent lab. Had I did not listen to my gut and gone to get the autopsy, I would be still blinded till this date about the reason of my cats' passing or shall I say, murder. This was an incredibly heartbreaking experience for me. I encourage others to ask questions, review their pets' diagnoses carefully, and use their own when deciding whether to use this clinic's services.

Both my wife and I were crushed at the loss of our Great Pyrenees dog that prematurely suffered from cancer and when it was time to make the call I must say that the experience was absolutely appropriate and private. At some points it was as if he was not even in the room turning away to allow my wife and I to have complete privacy in the middle of this to say goodbye. He shared very few words only to relieve our anxiety and concerns about our animal's initial reaction or what to expect from the euthanasia. This in itself was so appropriate and created an environment where we were not being consumed by the "unknown" with regards to this process. He truly is the right type of person to help anybody from any background in saying goodbye to their pets in private in your own home and like I said, it was almost as if he wasn't even there. Finn is extremely shy and particular, and giving him fluids at home just isn't an option. We also made the intentional choice not to associate his one safe space, home, with anything painful. At the clinic, it sometimes takes three nurses to support him, one to gently hold him, one to feed him churro (his favorite distraction), and one to administer fluids. Because I had to go to work/could not cancel, I opted to do the day after. The estimate at MASH is $6,000-8,000 but here it was around $4500. I dropped my cat off early on Wednesday for his check-up, test, and surgery. Ultimately, they disagreed with the vets at MASH and said my cat had no crystals either in x-ray or in his urinalysis but did have a UTI which contributed to a second blockage (bladder overflow). They kept him for 48-hours to unblock and recover. This cost around $2K. At MASH where he had done the same 2 days earlier, it was $6K When MASH returned my cat, he was rough. He reeked of pee, his face was completely crusted/sticky with dried medicine, his fur was full of shed, and he was lethargic and in pain despite all the medicines. When Affordable returned him, my cat was bright and energetic. They clearly took care of him (he smelled like a baby wipe). It has been about a week since I brought him home, but I knew immediately that he was feeling better the day I picked him up. Now, he has completely recovered. Back to flinging himself around and meowing at 4 am. I am incredibly grateful to this hospital for their responsiveness, flexibility, affordability, and the kindness they showed my cat. I was worried that I would end up losing my cat (I had paid nearly $7K at MASH and he wasn't better) if he blocked again, but Dr. Barrera said that I should "give my cat a chance." He said that it is what he would do if it were his cat. I'm grateful that I did because it saved him from unnecessary surgeries. My cat was seen by Dr. Forsythe and Dr. Barrera and they both were very kind and gentle with him. I do see what some reviews mean about their disorganization. They forgot to call me to update me that he wasn't getting the surgery but would need to be hospitalized. I had to call them, but it turned out that Dr. Forsythe had gotten very sick. He returned my call despite being audibly quite sick and given that my cat needed the hospitalization anyways (and he was fine), I can see how it slipped through the cracks. They seem to accommodate all kinds of emergencies as best as they can, so I think a little disorganization is totally ok. I do think Dr. Forsythe needs a new phone. It sounded like he was calling from a remote cabin or from a phone that fell off a cliff. I had to listen to the voicemail at max volume more than once. I will likely return again/switch my primary vet to this one because it is closer, cheaper, and I had a great experience. And apparently, my shy scaredy cat enjoyed the attention he received here. There are some more "affordable" vets but in terms of quality/expertise, this hospital is well worth the price. When I called around to vets in Los Angeles for cystotomy prices, Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital were the only ones that actually do it (many don't update their sites) that are near me (don't have a car) and their estimated price was also the same $4500. They are also roughly the same prices of my long-time vet (Beverly Robertson, wonderful, estimated $4K for procedure) and especially after going to MASH, these prices might as well be pennies. CareCredit is accepted basically everywhere, but what's nice about this hospital is that they accept ScratchPay which is a god send for emergency vet loans. This hospital is in an old building, but is still very nice and clean. Maybe not as sparkling as a brand new facility, but on par with the vets I've gone to over my lifetime.
