Bottom line. The good. This is a much needed addition to the still woeful Prescott food scene. The Bad. Suggest you pass on their standard tacos. They are at best , very average. The especial tacos being a little more expensive seem to use actually edible ingredients and would rate a fair. In a town so close up the Mexican boarder why is the best Mexican food , Texmex from the Hungry Badger food truck? With lots of small towns across the US leading the advance on locally produced , great innovative food and drink, Prescott stands alone as a food desert. Unfortunately this place was not what we were hoping. The only good thing was the drinks. Had a large party- got the guacamole and chips- bland on every level. Then we all ordered different types of tacos and they were dried out, no seasoning at all. The rice and beans were hard and cold. Waited over 45 mins for one cheese crisp... This is a great place for street style tacos. Had the flank steak and other tacos and they all had really good unique flavor. Same with the salsas. Didnt have any drinks so can't speak to that. This place has lots of character and not touristy. read more

Ok I'm not sure how to nicely say this but The birria tacos were gross. Zero seasoning in the cup of broth. No cheese. Most bland meat ever. This place is perfect for getting to that level and ignoring your problems. The food wasn't too expensive that I had to worry about my purchases for the next three days. The drinks were strong enough to allow me to ignore the fact that I will soon have to choose between a meal and gas. I suppose I can always find a meal. People throw out food at an alarming rate. You have a better chance of searching a dumpster for a quality meal then you do finding a gallon of gasoline. But you definitely have a better chance of finding a gallon of gas then you do finding these home-made delicious Al Pastor tacos. The TVs are big. Death is lurking around every corner, so the distraction of Sports Center is welcomed. Went here for a date last night and it was cool to see something in Prescott without the typical cowboy vibe. Drinks and desserts were really bomb...they had some habanero cheesecake that was on point and finally a quality churro is in town. The only reason I give it 4 stars is I feel like it was missing that 3rd random factor....like an old Galaga arcade game in the corner or something to keep you there for more than a drink or two. Love the food and the people at La Planchada, but my friends and I have decided not to return. The music is so loud we can't talk and we hate having to get up and stand in line (sometimes very long) every time we want a fresh cocktail. This "no service" offering seems to becoming more popular these days (example; Colt barbeque), but I'll keep moving on when I see it. And like Colt, La Planchada's prices are high. My husband and I were excited to try a new place and were very disappointed. It is a self serve establishment and that is ok because there is a sign that says what to do. However when we came into the place three people were behind the bar and no one even looked our way to smile or greet hello and the place was empty. We saw the sign and went to sit down, Two of the employees were up at the bar but talking and not paying attention to who was in the place. Ate here on recommendations from local friends. I wasn't a fan of the order of yourself at the bar contact but a lot of restaurants do that. It really is the details that get you in the end. Everything is plastic. Forks and knives are plastic. This alone is enough to make me sad. It does look like they are betting on ambiance and a hipster vibe. The guy taking orders was really grumpy. He was annoyed about my gluten allergy then scolded me about asking for no cheese (because no one in my party eats cheese). This is the first time I've ever been to a restaurant that refuses to not add cheese. He claimed it was a "European thing" to refuse modifications. So unfortunately we fell for someone on an app telling us this restaurant would be "so good". The atmosphere was cute with the flower on the wall however, their Order here window is hidden in the hall headed down to the bathrooms... $14 for 3 tacos would be fine but they get you with not being able to mix and match those tacos. We got chips & guacamole with a fresh side of blonde hair. The guacamole needed more salt, lime, and just flavor. There was the option of "house made salsa" or "tomatillo salsa" . House made salsa was pico de gallo-no spice. The tomatillo salsa tasted like they blended tomatillos and added lime juice...again no flavor. The gringo taquitos really mean that. It was a chicken taquito with what looked like enchilada sauce from a can topped with shredded cheese. We weren't the only unhappy customers either, a couple of ladies approached us to tell us they drove all the way from Phoenix to try it and were highly disappointed. They even told people that stopped to look into the restaurant to save their money and try somewhere else. Sadly I think you should save your money & trips if this is what's bringing you to Prescott. read more

The chips and salsa here are ok. But we were here on a Thursday and the place was nearly empty. They were very passive aggressive and though they had the playoffs on, apparently were weren't welcome to watch. On two occasions they cashed us out, once even clearing our table on a bathroom break. The guy with open sores on his face and arms was observed eating with his bare hands from the kitchen, not bothering to wash or even wear gloves. I won't return. read more

My wife and I had lunch at La Planchada on Jan. 16th. In general, they have wonderful street tacos. They are not a full-service MX restaurant. I had Tacos al pastor and carne asada and my wife had the vegetable taco. They were all excellent. Service was fast and attentive. They also serve a very good prickly pear margarita. They have a very good selection of tequilas and mezcals. I had a 1oz pour of the Del Maguey Pechuga--very little bite on the back end, smooth, and the second sip was even smoother with no bite. read more

Great food, had carnitas tacos (a bit salty but good otherwise). The issue and the reason for the two star review stems for the lack communication between staff. We all ordered at the checkout counter and waited some 20 minutes before food arrived and that's when the problems began. Half of our table received food but many received the wrong food (including myself, ordered two carnitas, received 1 carnitas and 1 carne asada) and the other half was left to wait. After another 15 minutes The waitress came by and asked what we ordered again and we explained what we were missing. Another 20 minutes goes by and they brought out the wrong food again (and also was short a taco). At this point we were fed up and just wanted to eat and leave so One person in my group ate two chicken tacos instead of Carne asada and the other ate one taco (she was given one even though she ordered two). The manager apologized and took tacos off of our bill to make it right and of course we were grateful for that. Our experience wasn't great but maybe yours will be better. read more

My husband and I love tacos--we have a home in Mexico. These tacos are just OK. The carne asada was bland as was the green chile chicken. The fried chicken and fish were good, but not great. Maybe the salads are better? These are street tacos and it is nice to sample several as they are small. It is a great concept but the food needs to ramp up. Service is fast! Sad this place has changed so quickly. When we first started going there, shortly after they opened, the tacos were great, many different choices, with lots of meat and you ordered them individually which made for a more fun and interesting meal. When we were there a week ago, they had switched the menu, not many options and you could only order three of the same. They were sloppily presented flat in a plastic basket, very little filling. One of us ordered shrimp; these looked like defrosted from a bag and heated in a micro, and very few small pieces. The other of us ordered the barbacoa which was a minuscule portion of dried meat. Guacamole is basically a small portion of mashed avocado (no flavor, not even salt), salsas are not good. We were still hungry after the meal so went across the street to have an appetizer. Such a shame, as the ambiance and decor is great, we were told the owners decided to change the menu. This place could not last if they don't do something drastic. We won't be back. read more

I have to start this review by saying this would have been a 4 star review two weeks ago. I run a few different meetup groups locally, (singles, hiking and book club). So I have local restaurants that I like to hold gatherings often. We have met at La Planchada several time in large groups. I personally have eaten there many times since it's opening. Always consistently good food, pleasant service and a lively atmosphere. But I went today with some business associates for lunch and found they had abandoned their entire menu for a new 6 item menu. Gone were the favorites like the green chili chicken tacos etc. The menu now features a few almost Gastro-pub inspired hipster style combinations of ingredients. By that I mean combinations of ingredients and flavors not traditionally placed together in the same dish. I was definitely not hopeful that the change would be for the better, but decided to give it a go anyhow. We decided to order the whole new menu and try everything out. I'm not going to be more long winded than I already have been, so in a nutshell I'll say that we all were very disappointed and could only wistfully talk about the dishes from the old menu we'd rather be having. I'll keep an ear to the ground to see what these changes bring, but until I see where La Planchada's menu lands or maybe bring back some of the old menu,I regretfully won't be going back. Wow. Horrible. I had left my phone at home on accident, but didn't realize it was our only option for ordering food. Most places will at least offer you a paper menu, even if there's the QR code option. Luckily my partner had his, so we both stared into his tiny screen to see the menu. Then we proceeded to wait in line for twenty minutes (on a Tuesday!) to order our 4 tacos and 2 drinks. Then, the kicker...it took a full hour to get our food! We'd wanted more drinks in the meantime, so we tried to go to the bar (servers don't come by to help you), but were told that they'd only serve us if we were sitting at the bar even though we'd already ordered and were desperate nourishment of any kind. What?! So we waited in line for 10 minutes for those! When the food finally arrived, we asked to get it in a box since we were SO ready to leave. The manager, who had offered us a very insincere apology for the wait, said he'd accommodate. Fifteen more minutes later, we received our 4 tacos, all dumped together in a container, ingredients smushed everywhere, (good thing there were no food allergies here, huh?) and given a cold goodbye. So...yeah. we won't be going there again. And on a side note...the table next to us had a similar experience; the cashier "didn't hear" their order, so they didn't get it. If this is what these corporate owners have to offer us, with all the restaurants they now own here in town, I'm not encouraged. This is the first, and most likely only negative yelp post I've ever posted, if that gives you an idea if how bad this experience was. Bad. read more
