Seafood Enchiladas and Chicken Enchiladas
Fiorella H.

We went to DC to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta DC & Nats Game. We were quite hungry after the game, so we ended up walking a little bit farther from the Stadium to avoid the crowd and ended up in Capitol Hill. We wanted to get Mexican but sit down type of place with homey food after a long day! That's how we found this place! We saw a lot of people eating outside, thought that place must be very popular in Capitol Hill, the inside was a less busy and quieter so we stayed! The decor is very colorful and festive! The bar area had lots of hard liquors from Central America and Mexico. It's a mix of Salvadorean and Mexican food owned by a family, everyone was very attentive and kind, re-filling our water and sodas, as well as bringing chips and salsa every time my partner and I gorged them hahah. The food was nothing too outstanding, since we both had the enchiladas (which to be quite honest, took a lot to be prepared, that's why I'm giving them a 3.5) I ordered the Seafood Enchiladas, which came with red sauce, lots of shrimp and scallops, the rice was surprisingly very flavorful (maybe cooked with some stock or magi cubes) but the refried bean lacked seasoning. Maybe they had a super busy morning and afternoon, by the time dinner time started they had probably short staff in the kitchen. I'm not from the area, so I won't probably get out of my way to eat there, but surely would be my to go spot for local Tex-mex and comida salvadoreña.

La Plaza is a vibe. They pack the tables inside and there's a popping sidewalk patio with more tables. It's decorated with bright colors and the staff are friendly. It's a fun spot to get queso and frozen margaritas. We popped in after Santa Rosa was too busy. The menu at La Plaza is large with tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and more. The prices are a bit steep for the quality of food. Everyone in my party thought their dishes were average from the ground beef enchiladas to the veggie fajitas to the nachos. Everything lacked flavor and was just okay. The mango frozen margarita was pricey, but I enjoyed it! I also appreciated the free chips and salsa.

I can't count the number of times that I have walked by this place and I've always wondered about it, but never stopped. Well, I recently rectified that and I really liked La Plaza. It's really cute inside and they have some outdoor tables as well. Service was fast and friendly. I enjoyed the chips and salsa. My chimichanga was huge and delicious and while I usually can't eat a whole one, I devoured this one. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their meals, too. I'm looking forward to returning for margaritas.

Pupasas

Ordered togo on 3/22/25. We ordered pupasas because we wanted to try them in DC. It did take some time for our pupasas to be cooked, but it was busy when we arrived in the afternoon. Pupasas: 3/5, tasted average for my taste. The flavor wasn't there and it is a little bit pricey. Next time we should try it in person.

I'm so sad to give this place a bad review because it was SO yummy and so cute, but they poisoned me with a known food allergy that I disclosed ahead of time... and I had a very serious reaction and it ruined my night out. They need to take food allergies more seriously and be more careful...if they do that, it would be an easy 5 stars. I feel like they should have at a minimum comped our meal, but they just gave my partner a free shot of tequila...which was odd and not helpful for the situation, as we had to leave and I had to seek medical care.

I came recently for a weekday dinner and had a great time! We sat outside, which was very pleasant and I ordered the enchiladas (one beef, one chicken). Both were good, but the beef one was slightly better in my opinion. The portion was generous and the price was pretty reasonable (for DC). The free chips and salsa were delicious and the service was pretty quick. Not fancy, but a nice local spot.

Loved this place. A little dark but inside is super clean including the bathroom. We loved the service they were so friendly and attentive attentive. The food was delicious. This is now my new go to spot for Mexican and Salvadoran food.

First time here(visiting from Milwaukee), the papusa was out of this world flavorful. My girlfriend's food was good, however the beans had no flavor. Vibes and service were amazing . Highly recommend the papusas.

Appreciate La Plaza is open a little later than other places. Additional bonus when opened late and have great tasting food and good service. Not sure if it was due to how late we went in, but it wasn't too busy in the restaurant that is decorated with some cool flair. We were asked for drink orders fairly quickly and beverages and food were provided in a timely manner. To start your meal, highly recommend ordering the papusas. Best papusas that I have had in the area.

Amanda Y.

I wouldn't order the Mexican food here, but the Salvadoran food is not bad. The pate I got came with a palisade, plantains, rice, beans, and a couple other things. A little overpriced. Service and ambiance were quick casual vibes. Nothing amazing, but nothing bad to be sure!

There are some parking spots right in front, although not many. There is a decent amount of seating, but it would be tight if you had a large party. My partner did note that the bathrooms weren't that great. You immediately get served complementary chips and salsa. They were pretty basic, but not bad. We ordered the following: + Papusas (Pork and Cheese & Loroco and Cheese) - Decent, although I prefer the Loroco (an edible flower bud). + Pollo à la Primavera (chicken dish) - Yummy, especially the sauce which mixes well with their hot/spicy sauce too! I could do without the salad dressing. + Camarones con Calabeza (shrimp dish) - Same as above! Note they leave the tails on. + Natural Juices (Mango and Maranon) - So refreshing! I loved the Maranon (cashew apple) was a wonderful burst of tropical sweetness with a subtle nutty taste. I appreciate that for the pupusas they had the foresight to provide my partner and I two plates so we could sphere the papusas. The portion sizes of the entrees were great for the price. It did take a while for the staff to swing by so that we could get boxes and the check. Note that credit cards and mobile pay are accepted. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back again to try more items on their menu.

This place is located in a convenience store, so when you're approaching the address, it's not very obvious that this place is located inside due to the lack of signage. This place has limited hours and I believe they open early for breakfast and close at 4:00 p.m. I originally wanted to call in my order, but didn't see a decent menu online and/or prices, so I made my way there. I got there maybe about 20 minutes before they closed as I saw the chairs up on top of the tables in their seating area. I immediately just ordered the carne asada tacos, the pork pupusas and the cheese pupusa. I took it to go, brought it inside my car and because I didn't eat lunch and it was almost dinner time, I literally picked up the cheese pupusa and ate it in my car. It was piping hot and delicious. I didn't even put the little salad / hot sauce on top as I was really hungry. Overall it was really good. Of course, I moved on to the taco and thought it was kinda small, but thought to myself I should have ordered one more. I think it was comparable to the price that I paid, but for someone that was hungry I knew that maybe four wouldn't not be enough but thankfully the pupusas filled me up. I didn't finish my food completely as I drove home because I wanted to really sit down and try the food. My overall feedback on the tacos is to probably ask them to make my tacos medium rare if at all possible. Secondly, I would probably order at least five and maybe four pupusas. I think that would satisfy my craving and I would be full. I love supporting small businesses so if you are in the area, please stop by and try out this place.
