La Potosina (or "the Pot") is a good option for dine-in Mexican good for those that come hungry. The portion sizes are usually very generous and include chips and salsa. Went here for lunch today with a group of 3 and our overall experience was pretty average. The table chips were fairly cold and stale and were never refilled. The salsa was pretty damn good, bulky with a hint of spiciness. One of us ordered the quesadilla rellena, which was a cheese quesadilla stuffed with vegetables. Unfortunately he did not detect much (if any) cheese and there was a shrimp on the end of the quesadilla. Now he has no issues with seafood, but there are obviously other people that do, and furthermore it makes me question their kitchen hygiene. Another of us ordered the burrito tapatio and thought it was decent. It was more of a giant taco and she was under the impression it would be a burrito (given the name). I ordered the chilaquiles per the suggestion of our server. I told him that I wanted something with guac and he told me he would incorporate some guac into the dish. This did not happen. However I did enjoy the meal regardless. The chicken was very tender and mixed well with the sauce and sides. Still didn't love the empty gesture. Our waiter was overall friendly and the food came fairly quickly. The tables were comfortable to sit in but were very close to each other, making it challenging to walk around, although they can clearly accommodate a lot of people. read more

Best Mexican Food ever. I've lived soooo many places and keep coming back for that Queso.

Honestly, I get treated like an afterthought here. I often dine by myself due to my work schedule. I get awful seating and super slow service compared to when I come with a group. The last time I got a dirty glass with lipstick on it. I wish we had another option. Maybe I'll try El Toro next time. I'm thinking about going there now... I should have tried it. I was in Danville and this was one of the few places that still offered dine in, so I stopped there for lunch. They serve Mexican food. I ordered the pork torte because it's one of my favorites and I always like to try it first at any restaurant. There was also a steak option, that I will order if I am ever out there again. The servers were efficient and friendly. They all observed safety protocols, such as masks and gloves. The booths are kind of isolated. Of course, they serve me chips salsa straight off. I also ordered a strawberry margarita which was huge. I had so much brain freeze by the time I was finished with it. The pork was tender and easy to chew. The restaurant was clean. It looked like they were expanding it because there was construction going on outside. The bill was pretty fair for a dine-in restaurant. The torta was served on a sort of subway style bread which I have never seen before. There's a specific type of bread used for tortas and it's not usually subway bread. Still it was pretty tasty and very generous. The liquor per usual kind of expensive, but the food was pretty competitively priced for a dine-in restaurant. The parking was convenient, although it looks like their lot could use a little mending. read more

Back home to visit my daughter and of course had to visit our favorite Mexican restaurant. They have completely changed the decor. It now looks old western. Very clean and nice. The food of course was fabulous as always. Service was very good. The staff is friendly and attentive. I have had numerous items on the menu and you can't go wrong with whatever meal you choose. The reason why you're not seeing any COVID-19 updates on this yelp page is because the business isn't following any state orders. I have seen some of these reviews with things like "Burger tiny and burnt not very good" and "Fried chicken sandwich was over cooked hard". That's American food. Why did you bother to come to La Potosina? Also, La Potosina is *not* Taco Bell (where you feel it that night and the next day as well). Taco Bell is "Americanized" food, not *real* Mexican food. Please don't stoop to that comparison. In the numerous times I have been to La Potosina, they have been courteous, kind and very attentive. I find that when I am respectful and kind, it goes a very long way because of the people who aren't. I have been *all over* Mexico and the food at La Potosina is quality fare from the San Luis Potosi area. And it's good. I ordered chicken tacos. The beef tacos that I received did not amuse me. I've always wanted to know where Doritos gets their chips before they put spices on them . . . now I know. One of my favorite Mexican places in the U.S. The food is excellent and rates a 5-star authentic. I have eaten Mexican style food in Texas and in California (San Jose), and this place tops them all. I have eaten there for several years now, so the consistency has been there. The food is hot and fresh and extremely tasty, the service is "fast", and you can even get Mexican Pepsi :-), Modelos Beers .... I haven't tried their margaritas yet ... so I have to hold off on that review. If you are driving through I-74 and pass through Danville ... this place is the best place to stop for food between Champaign/Urbana IL and Indy .... (discounting the cities of course ... Since Danville IL is a depressed economic area, the prices are really good (comparing them to the Bay Area :-) ). La Potosina is a pay-day favorite. It has been a Mexican-food mainstay in Danville for over a decade, and with crowds that keep this place hopping it's pretty clear that they have a good thing going. The service is prompt and friendly, even when there is a crowd. The burritos, fajitas and quesadillas are certainly good, if not exceptional. I'd skip ground beef entrees, the tacos, chile rellenos and enchiladas--they're the only real misses on the menu. There are some hidden menu gems here: The chilaquiles (stewed tortillas with chicken and cheese) are noteworthy; the pechuga frita (grilled chicken topped with grilled onions and cheese) and pechuga potosino (grilled chicken topped with grilled onions, peppers, chorizo and cheese) are exceptional; the botana (nachos topped with grilled chicken, jalapeños and four cheese quesadillas) is different and very good; and the camarones aculpoco (shrimp wrapped in bacon and topped with a spicy pepper mix and melted cheese) might be the spiciest dish in Vermilion County. There is another smaller La Potosina location at 3363 N. Vermilion Street--it was the original spot here in town and it has the same menu. read more

Best Mexican food in Central Illinois. The salsa is made fresh, but it varies...some days it's that perfect medium "heat" and other days it needs some hot sauce added for my taste. I recommend the Pechuga Frita (Chicken Breast with grilled onions, cheese sauce, tortillas, rice, and beans), the Burrito Potosina with Shrimp, or the Shrimp Fajitas. The Fiesta Fajitas (steak, chicken, and shrimp) are also very good. Any dishes with "Colorado" in them are extremely spicy. I've had nothing on the menu that wasn't good, although the tacos and other ground beef dishes are unremarkable. However, anyone who goes to an authentic Mexican restaurant and orders ground beef tacos will probably think they are just fine. Treat yourself to a chicken, or shrimp dish which are excellent. They need to get new salsa and not serve it in a pitcher. Chips were ok. Verde with chicken was weird more sweet like it was made with pineapple. It was not great. Burger tiny and burnt not very good. ,fries were nice size and a good portion. Two tacos one chicken one meat no flavor. Add some seasoning. Fried chicken sandwich was over cooked hard. Again came with fries they were nice portion and were ok. Chicken fajitas the peppers and tomatoes were huge they didn't slice them. Came out hot but no flavor tasted like a grill no seasoning. Great place for a quick bite to eat. I had the taco fajita camaron. It was large, hot, and delicious--and it came very quickly! Came with chips and salsa but no other sides, which have to be ordered separately. It was big enough for me to take half home again for lunch. My waiter was a little abrupt, but maybe he didn't expect to get a big tip from a single gal dining alone. He was friendly with the regulars, though, and there are a lot of them! I give this place a 3.75 star rating. This is a nice place for Mexican food. We went tonight, Friday around 6ish and were able to be seated. It holds a nice crowd. I'll visit again due to prompt seating for 2, great food and great prices. I didn't give a 5 star because my waiter was definitely not listening which isn't good at all. To add to it, he really didn't smile and didn't engage with his customer. I had to send him back for multiple things. It was quite frustrating. Hopefully the next time I'll get another person who is friendly and welcoming. read more
