Both my Bride and I chose the Enchiladas with Beans & Meat option. Of course we did not give up alcohol, so had their large Regular Margaritas , on Ice and salted rim. This was a miss. This was my first time eating at a Toro location and I have to say that I was not impressed at all. The food was too Americanized for my taste. I was hoping for something a little more traditional, but I guess they are an Americanized Mexican food cuisine. I had the Grilled Chicken Breast Platter. Let's just start by saying I was going to order to go but decided to dine in. I do not generally go to an El Toro restaurant, as I have had such bad experiences, but I was optimistic and decided to choose them today. I ordered a big sampler it came out hot. However, the taquitos. had NO flavor, very bland. The ground beef was simply ground beef with again NO flavor. I also ordered the El Toro Fajitas, which came out within 5 minutes of me getting the appetizer. It was warm, and didn't look all that fresh or appetizing. by the time I got into it. The "steak" was dry and overcooked, the chicken the same, and the shrimp was fresh, Let me just say, IT HAD NO FLAVOR! Like all the Mexican restaurants, I noticed, they do not cook to order, but probably premake and hold their "fajita" meat. BAD practice. FRESH MEX is the best way to go. I asked for a box as my chihuahua would have eaten it, I tried to pay the check, and the manager took my box and the check, and thanked me. I would not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a true MEXICAN flavored restaurant. I would say making the trip across town to Dos Realis you will not be disappointed. We came in at around 9:00 and had some drinks. About 16 of us. It took about 20 minutes just to get our order taken. When the food came they forgot two of the orders. Since it was getting past ten, the cooks refused to make to chicken quesadillas that they forgot to make. So two people went without food. This place was pretty great. Although the food presentation wasn't anything exceptional, it tasted amazing (except the chalupa, that was a bit bland). What really impressed we was how the servers responded when we found a tiny piece of a broken plate in one of our meals. I ordered carry out here, and wowww was I pleased with my order! I called ahead and everything was ready when I arrived. I was surprised by how they included their chips and salsa for free, and I should emphasize that they were a lot of chips! I ordered the El Toro fajitas and it was delicious. Everything was packaged well and serving size is generous. I was able to eat two meals out of one and was still full. It's a bit on the salty side though, so make sure you have lots of water nearby haha. Jokes aside, I plan on visiting here to dine in one day because many reviews say that the staff is friendly and service is great. Let me start out by saying that I understand there is a long history of tension between Mexicans and Puerto Rican's. I understand both side having been integrated in both cultures. What I do not understand is why my Puerto Rican partner was not worthy of being spoken to, in Spanish, like a valid Latino human being. I do not understand why I had to speak between him and the service staff. It was very dehumanizing, and made both him and myself feel very worthless. When at the front paying for our food, the same waitress who would not speak Spanish with my partner, spoke very watered down Spanish to a white man. This was incredibly discriminatory service and after being a customer at Toro Loco since some of the staff went there from La Fiesta (maybe 5 years now?) they have officially lost me as a customer. This is a very spacious restaurant that handles big parties. I think compared to the other el toros this is he best one! They have some dishes that are made up that are really good like the Sarjento and the choripollo. Their Chips and salsa are delicious as well and everyone loves their queso sauce. I will say this so Mexicans don't get the wrong impression.. the food here is delicious but it is not authentic Mexican food! If someone from Mexico or places like Chicago come expecting tacos de carne asada with with cilantro and onions and a spicy sauce, they will be upset to see a ground beef taco with a red sauce. I have been coming to this restaurant for years, and have grown to recognize the owner (Martin) as well as a majority of the waitstaff. I could not agree more with Kristy K and Lisa B, servers are rude and do not ever make me or any other guests feel welcome. I have brushed this aside for many visits as the food is cheap and service is quick (sometimes within 3 minutes of ordering). Servers often hang around the restaurant talking to one another or watching TV and seem annoyed of the customers. Staff is never friendly, you can tell they are just there to "do their job" and go home with a paycheck. The past 3 trips, I have had the same young waiter (cannot remember the name, but he has goatee) who while we are ordering must have better things on his mind because he always looks off in other directions while we are ordering. It's crazy; for the 20 seconds he has at our table taking our order, he cannot keep his interest on his tipping customers? Is it that hard to train your staff to be courteous Martin? It's not enough to provide food quickly, it's about making your guests feel welcome and providing them with an excellent experience. If you want a cheap Mexican meal, I would suggest any of the other 10 Mexican restaurants in Champaign-Urbana. I am now officially done giving this restaurant a chance, and I hope those of you reading this will think twice before supporting this place. I visited El Toro Loco with my husband. It was a very nice experience. We chose it because he wanted to eat somewhere that had reasonable steak and i wanted to eat somewhere fun. We were both very pleased! It was a little intimidating because of the amount of ramps. You see my husband is a paraplegic and I had fallen at a gas station(Casey's) and sustained multiple injuries, so I was also in a wheelchair at the time. There were many ramps to get into the restaurant and many more to avoid any seating only accessible by steps. The employees were more than willing to help push me and him up and down them to get to our table and to leave. The food was delicious! The atmosphere was fun! The staff was friendly! If it was more handicapped accessible they would have gotten five stars. I love their salsa! And their margaritas are very reasonable! Just probably won't be back too many stairs and too many ramps. Here's the deal--I'm not a fan of everything on the menu. In fact, I think that the majority of the menu items are not good. But, if you order carnitas tacos, you won't be disappointed. Toro Loco is worth a trip, but only for these tacos. The salsa lacks flavor, and if you ask for anything hotter, a warm, unappetizing bowl of hotter salsa comes out. Margaritas are 1.99 on Mondays, and beer is reasonably priced too. The service is always friendly and reliable. I wouldn't go out of the way to eat here, but seeing as I'm in the neighborhood, I'm glad Toro Loco is in town. And I hope they never run out of carnitas tacos. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Urbana. First tried it a couple of years ago when I was spending most of my time at the hospital with my mother in her last days. The giant frozen margarita was delicious and just what I needed! And it comes in several flavors. The enchiladas suizas are my favorite menu item. The casual atmosphere is great for taking my daughter's family of 4 kids out to eat. We've never been disappointed in the service or the quality of the food. Tried Toro Loco for the first time despite living very close to it for a year. I called the order in to pick up at the restaurant. The young girl on the phone did not know the menu well and there were no dinner specials. I ordered some beef enchiladas and a chicken quesadilla and some rice. I did not receive any rice. The quesadilla was a soft shell taco with pulled chicken and cheese. The beef enchiladas were devoid of any spices or ingredients apart from the bare essentials to an enchilada. No secret family recipe. No pizzaz. Just the most blah Mexican I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and go to Dos Reales if you want good Mexican in Chambana. read more
