Landed late and was looking for something to eat. Small place very good food! Would recommend. Service was fast.

After 4 days in and around the San Juan area this place took the crown as far as the best place we ate. Don't get me wrong we tried the touristy places as well as the mom and pop places but this one hit different. The most flavorful and best bang for your buck! And lucky for us it was located right near our small hotel we were staying at so it worked out. We got a six pack of arepas and wow each one just kept getting better and better with each bit! My favorite were the shrimp and spicy crab. If you just got those 2 you can't go wrong but the ceviche and pork were no slouch either. If you're in the area stop in and give this place a try you won't be disappointed or leave hungry! read more

WOW. The food here was amazing! We walked in on a Sunday night, it wasn't too crowded since the weather wasn't great. On sundays, the medalla beer can is only $1. We ordered the ceviche to start which was a pretty big portion. Two arepas, the spicy crab and shrimp. And hashbrowns. It was so good, that we ordered another spicy crab, though they informed us they just sold out so we got the shrimp instead which was still great! Also another order of the hashbrowns which were oh so crispy ! Servers were very attentive and explained the menu well. This is a repeat favorite from last year's PR trip! I didn't even know what an arepa was before coming here last year and now it is a "must do" every time time we are in PR. My friend and I tried a whole selection of their arepas. They are DELICIOUS. The meat is plentiful and it is covered with this amazing cream sauce. They are messy! If you have never had an arepa before- start with the chicken (you usually order about 3). For your dessert arepa, make sure to get an queso frito y guayaba (translates fried cheese and guava sauce). If that doesn't sound like a great combo to you, I dare you to try and it will change your mind. Also- the bar makes great classic and reasonably price cocktails. FIRST, THE WHITE SAUCE IS BANGING. Atmosphere is great, good music and ample seating. Only con is that the bathroom had a lot of mosquitoes x.x Came around 14:30/2:30 PM and we ordered 4 arepas: I had the pulpo and triple meat, friend had the pernil and fish. Loved the pulpo, chunks were thick and fresh! Triple meat had salami and ham (?) And the whole bottom half was pernil. Friend thought the pernil was too salty, its definitely juicy and also salty. The arepas were crispy and fluffy where it counted, and very well stuffed, worth the price range. Service was great, they take your order and have you sit. You pay after your meal. They have a six pack in their UVA menu that offers options that they don't honor. When you call to inquire to find out what the deal is (when you get the wrong things) they mock you and reply sarcastically. I didn't receive a call to rectify. According to them, the item does not include those options, but I mentioned them in the notes. Why wouldn't you call to figure out what's going on? My bf and I went here while vacationing in San Juan. We ate at multiple restaurants/venues in the area, and out of all of them, this was the one we went to more than once! The food was outstanding. They serve basically one item, Arepas Rellenas, along w/a few sides, but if you're going to do one thing, do it well, and they absolutely do! Not too many places to sit, and if it's crowded, forget it, but the food alone is worth the visit. You can also easily take it to go. Wish I could rate this as 10 stars, but the max is 5. read more

The chicken arepa was also good but i wish i had gotten a side of sauce for that one. I also tried the shrimp arepa and it was also very very good. I found this place on TripAdvisor and Black Travel movement. Best decision EVER, yes it's a food truck but the food taste like a five star restaurant. The prices are reasonable, the service quick and friendly. I was able to make it over here twice on my four day trip, Saturdays La Prena stays open until 3 am. Arepas were delicious and fresh! The atmosphere was great with old school hip hop and reggae playing in the background and outdoor seating. The only small issue we had was that the service was fairly lax. Our order was 20 mins late and had to flag the server down for an update. We came to find out the order was never put in.
