I LOVE this place ! Chilaquiles verdes with Cesina are my favorite breakfast item. Their oyster shooters are delicious, the snapper in diabla sauce is one of my favorite dishes. Mexican cuisine does homage to seafood and La Presa does it right. This Mexican restaurant is not your typical Tex-Mex restaurant. However, if you insist on having it they do have it on the menu. However, if you do order Tex-Mex, know that you are losing out on the best seafood in the Chicago land area. I would even make the argument that the seafood serve here rivals the seafood served at Bob Chins. We came here with a party of ten so we were able to order and sample ten different seafood entres. The grilled fish was nicely flavored but not overly spiced, the crab legs were done just right, the fried whole fish was crunchy-and moist inside. Even the imitation cubed crab meat was to die for. The sides of rice and beans, yucca and grilled cactus are not so bad but they do take a back seat to the glorious seafood. read more

I went here with a co-worker & came back for lunch the next two days. I ordered a steak burrito & an iced tea. The iced tea was just a regular iced tea no complaints there & the steak burrito was awesome. They give you chips & three different kinds of salsa. Two red salsas & one green salsa. The red salsas are spicier which I liked a lot & the green salsa was kind of a guacamole salsa. All of the salsas were delicious & the chips were pretty good as well. The servers were pretty good for the most part just not to talkative. I also ordered food to go & it sat at the front counter for 10 minutes before I realized I was supposed to pick it up at the counter & that they weren't going to bring it to my table. I would give this place four stars if the review were for the food only, but the service and atmosphere of the restaurant brought the rating down to a three. I entered the restaurant with a friend and it looked pretty authentic. However, the restaurant itself was pretty drab and the bathrooms were not very clean. The kitchen is open, so that made me feel a little bit better about the cleanliness of the restaurant. I ordered a carne asada torta which was awesome. I asked if any of the tortas were spicy and the waiter said no. I like spicy and this sandwich was spicy...it had slices of jalapeno in it! It was delicious. I also had the pico de gallo which was really spicy as well. The chips could have used some salt. read more

There are a few things on this menu that I can't get enough of. The combination fajitas is one of those things. Steak, chicken, & shrimp nicely grilled with peppers and onions. There is no heavy sauce or overly strong flavors. It's a very clean & fresh mix, just add any or all of the hot sauces they serve and it's complete. I prefer flour tortillas over corn and again they make them better. How? They throw them on the grill a bit which really brings out the flavor. This is the only place I know that does it. I have to say LaPresa has some of the best hot sauces I've ever had! Not just heat but unique flavors for each one, mild, medium, & hot. If you dine in you will get a sample of all three with chips. The tacos here are great as well. I had 3 steak with everything, that will include onions,cilantro, lettuce, & tomato. Purists may opt to skip the lettuce & tomato. Regardless it was very good. The steak pieces are small bits that are lightly charred. It eats great! This last time I also tried the langostino or crayfish grilled in a spicy garlicky sauce. These are cut in half, grilled and mixed into the sauce. You have to get messy here. Pick one up, split the tail from the body, suck the sauce from the body, eat the tail meat from the shell, & lick your fingers... It's goooood! I thinks it's a good addition to an entree. It's a strong sauce so it's good to have something else to eat along side it. I have to mention the 1.2L bottle of Victoria that is served in its own ice bed! Love it! I've been coming here for a few years along side Mexico Uno in downtown Palatine. Between the two you should be pretty satisfied with the Mexican fix in this area. This place is kind of hit or miss for us. The prices are pretty typical of traditional Mexican, so I'm not up in arms about that. My husband and I have carried out from here a couple of times, and each time we either love it or wish we went somewhere else. Today it was the latter. I had a chimichanga, which was just okay. Last time I had tacos al pastor, which were rich and very satisfying. So I guess you never know, but I'll definitely keep working my way through the menu! I got the steak taco dinner and it was delicious. The steak was great and I loved the refried beans. By far, THE best fish ceviche I've had at a suburban Mexican restaurant in a while, served in a giant platter - perfect if you're on the Beachbody or on a low carb diet, (They also offer a shrimp ceviche, but the fish version - tilapia, is what the waitress recommended.) served with saltines or tostadas. I ate it without. Both options were $13.99. Hubby had the tampequeña - perfect salt/pepper flavor, though the giant chile we could have done without. Son had the 3 steak taco dinner, also delicious - $7.99. Huge menu. Over 140 different combination platters and dinners. Chips and 3 types of salsas from medium to hot. The green salsa still had heat, so I won't call it mild. They have a decent beer selection and offer cocktails as well. I rate the food, not the locale, really. I read the other reviews and after reading their 'concerns', I actually became even more intrigued by this place. I just moved here from Chicago and not only love trying new Mexican places, but also like to try and cook it. Hate to say it, but most WHITE people have no clue as to what real Mexican food is....complaining about it being too spicy, or the atmosphere not to their liking. Yes, they have Telemundo Spanish channel on the TVs in here. Yes, most of the patrons are of Latin descent (a very good sign, actually). And the food is delicious. The al pastor is to die for...probably the best I've had. They also bring out 3 different salsas/hot sauces with chips. Slow service....I haven't experienced this and I've been here 3 times already. If you want something more Americanized (i.e. slathered with cheese, sour cream, and zero flavor), then go hit up Chili's or Chipotle. read more

The Mexican seafood is solid here. I love their tacos as well. I usually get a variation of 4-5 tacos and my fiancée gets some combination seafood plate of shrimp, fish and/or steak. We usually stick to their margaritas for drinks. On weekends, they usually have a singer performing or karaoke. If you want to enjoy a quiet night out, go during the weekday. The prices are pretty high for a Mexican restaurant. The building is dumpy and I have never seen a worse/more gross toilet seat. I've had a craving for authentic tacos for quite a while now, so when I passed by La Presa, I decided it was worth trying. My dad and I each got the taco dinner with a variety of different meats, wanting to try as many as possible. Service up to this point was good, but it went downhill from here. It took quite a while to get our food, and even longer to get our bill. I wasn't in too much of a hurry, but I don't think I'd plan on doing a quick meal here. The chips and salsas/dips were good, but very spicy. I really liked the flavors, but I could only eat a little of each. Not bad, just not my thing. As for the tacos, I guess I made a mistake. When we ordered, we were asked if we wanted everything on the tacos. I should have asked what "everything" meant. I just wanted onion/cilantro, but we ended up getting our tacos with lettuce, cheese, and tomato as well. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was looking for. Out of all the tacos we tried, al pastor was my favorite. Asada was good, but it was a single slice the size of the tortillas, so I thought it could use a little more meat. Lengua was very tender, but didn't have much flavor. Also tried the fish, smoked beef, and ground beef, but none really stood out to me. I'll be honest, the overall experience could have been better, but I'm writing the bad parts off as a learning experience. Went here for lunch on a Sunday since I had to work that day and it is close. I had the #1 combo - taco, chile relleno and - well crap, I can't remember the other item. Seemed like it came right out of the microwave. Nachos and salsa were ok. There were 2 tomato based salsas (1 hot, the other milder) and a guacamole type substance for the third. The guacamole tasted like the genuine imitation guacamole you can get in the cooler section at the grocery store. Everything on the combo was pretty good. Not the best I've had, but it was ok. The waitress was pretty good other than at the end I had to go to the register to get my check. Not a huge issue for me though. Their food is excellent, I recommend trying their al pastor sopes or their al pastor tacos. The sopes are a little messy if you do not mind picking it up; but you can also use a fork and knife. Their salsas are all good, some are a little spicer than others. Oh and definitely try out their karaoke machine; the music makes you feel like you are at a Hispanic party.
