We've had Taco Shop before when it catered a graduation party we attended, and really liked it. Today we had carryout - steak and chicken tacos, and a chicken burrito platter. The meat is high quality and nicely cooked. Rice and beans were very good as well. The thing we missed was more flavor and heat!! I'd love to get a little heat from jalapenos or spices, but it was not there. The salsa was not too hot either. We're not heat freaks by any means, but we do love some spice in our Mexican food. The burrito also had rice in it so my side of rice was probably not needed. All in all the food is good and high quality. What I'd love to have is more flavor and heat!! read more

It's been over half a decade since I first reviewed Taco Shop and it still is the best! The employees are awesome, the food is delicious, fresh, and always ready when ordering ahead. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made me feel right at home. Looking at the menu was tough so many delicious sounding things, I had a hard time choosing! I ended up grabbing an asada burrito to go, and let me tell you, it was ready in a flash! Seriously, I barely finished paying and it was already done. I also got an horchata, it was so refreshing! I wish they had a larger size, though, because I could have easily drunk twice as much. They keep them chilled in a fridge, which is a nice touch. That first bite of the burrito? Forget about it! I had high expectations for this place since they have great reviews and what seems to be a large following but I can't say I was too impressed. Small seating and the tacos were good but pretty basic, they also didn't have meals where it came with comp chips when you sit or rice and beans - you have to order it all ala carte. I used to write a food blog... maybe I will restart... i ate my first Taco Shop meal tonight... whoa! I ordered for pickup (as an aside if it says ASAP then believe it.) I thought I would wait almost 30 minutes to pick up and when I got my food it was warm... not hot... warm. My fault. If I had paid attention to the 10 minute ASAP window my food would been perfectly hot. Even though it was warm only it was absolutely delicious. The perfect fried tortilla bowl was only half filled and initially I was disappointed. But, the sides of the tortilla bowl were very tall and steep. In fact, the amount of perfectly layered salad was more than enough. At one point, I thought I it was bottomless and I would never get to the end of the salad. The layers of rice, beans, carnitas , lettuce and guacamole were filled with flavor and texture all the way to the end. I personally recommend the Taco Shop with my enthusiastic 5 star Yelp rating. You will not be disappointed and I intend to eat my way through the entire menu! I may need help but I think the Freud High School Football team and me can handle it if needed. read more

Didn't know any lyrics to songs but I was jamming and wiggling to each song The Food. Wonderful. The tacos were all well seasoned and flavorful. Only issue I had was with the carne asada and carnitas were a tad dry, but the flavor profile was still there. Maybe I got the end of the batch since we ordered about a hour or two till closing. However, the flavors of the tacos hit the Umami, Savor and just the right amount of heat came from the added salsas. By far the Al Pastor was the tastiest, so y'all have to give that one a go. Wow.....is what went through my head when I sunk my teeth into my first bite. Carne Asada taco - hands down the best steak taco I have ever had. They marinate it for 24 hours and trim it nicely so you do not get any chewy parts. Makes me even happier that they locally source their meat. I'm not sure why this place got so many good reviews.... I guess I'm missing something. The place is located in a strip mall, and it is a somewhat small restaurant. I would estimate maybe 20 people can dine-in comfortably. The set up is, you order at the front, where there are menus hanging overhead. The menu consisted of tacos and burritos, chips, guac, sadly no elote. Tell them your order, pay, and sit down; they serve the food. Service was great, the food though wasn't. We ordered some chips and salsa and the chips appear to be store brought. The salsa I wish was pico de gallo, and I understand that salsa and pico de gallo it are two different things, but some places have chips and salsa, where the salsa is really pico de gallo. That was somewhat of a disappointment. The salsa, in a squeeze bottle at the front counter, was bland, even for this non-spicy guy. We got our tacos rather quickly. I ordered a chicken, shrimp, and beard battered fish taco. The beer battered fish taco was probably the best, followed by the shrimp taco. I feel like chicken tacos are hard, because finding a good one is mostly miss, than hits. The chicken was somewhat dry. The Taco Shop is a small family owned take out or eat in business for tacos and burritos. There are only three small tables for eating in more suited to a quick lunch. They have excellent street tacos. Some of the best I've ever had. I usually get three. The chicken, ground beef and battered fish tacos with the works which includes onion, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and cilantro. They come with two different sauces on the side. Red sauce and green tomatillo sauce. They have homemade cinnamon sugar churros for desert. They have several different kinds of Mexican sodas. All flavors are good. Truly disappointing. A 2 taco platter and guacamole/ chips, was $31!!!! Carne asada taco meat was chewy, and not seasoned or seared well. Discovered this place nearby the Deer Grove Nature Preserves. We were starving after walking 6.5 miles and this Taco Shop did not disappoint! Due to COVID-19, they are only doing take out. They have an dining set, but that's open if the weather is nice. I ordered the steak tacos with cilantro and onions (if you have it any other way it's a sin ;) jk!). They do not serve beer, wine, or liquor - just standard Taqueria food. Their guacamole is outstanding. Their salsa is spicy and fresh. But, their Al Pastor was amazing. It was not soupy like you get in some places - I don't know if they put it on a flattop after cutting it off the spirals or what, but that little bit added so much. Who can resist Tacos??? I pulled up my Yelp App to see if I could find anything to where I was working, since my training partner had lunch plans with his wife. This spot popped up as a hot, new business and had 5 stars, so it was a must go. I'm not familiar with this area at all, so when I pulled up and saw this place was in a 60s looking runner down strip mall, I got a little worried I was not in the right place. However, as I got out of my car and started walking towards the store, I realized I wasn't the only one walking towards this joint. The store front is nothing impressive, and neither is the inside of the place. It's pretty cramped and small, and reminds me of a very old cafe. There was a line 6 people deep in front of me, and 7-8 people behind me. The smell of marinated steak was pleasant, and I could feel my hunger growing. It's one line and a big sign above their grill advertising all they have to offer. Burritos, tacos, quesadillas were the bulk of it. The ordering process went fast. I got the carne asada, al pastor and carnitas taco with onions and cilantro, plus a side of rice and drink. It's all cooked to order. There isn't much seating, maybe 10 tables. I grabbed an empty spot, and my food was ready in no time. They have two bottles of sauce to use where you pick up: a tomatillo sauce and a spicy tomato based sauce. Both were decent, but the tomatillo was the best. I did enjoy my tacos but wish I had some pico added to them. My only real complaint is that I didn't taste any roasted pineapples in my al pastor, which is the reason for my star bump. The steak and pork was nicely seasoned and juicy. Nothing exceptional about the rice but it was good. Service was excellent, and you could tell they were passionate about their business. I'd certainly recommend this place.
