We stayed here as it was easily accessible off the I-80. The check in was smooth and quick. The gentleman let me know what their WiFi password was as well as their breakfast hours. The room was clean and had a fridge and microwave which was very convenient. Our stay also included complementary breakfast. It was included so I can't complain too much, I do wish there was more of a variety of fresh fruit options as well as more egg options other than cold packaged hard boiled eggs. One BIG issue I did have was that the dark curtains did not move, meaning we had outdoor light coming in all night since we were facing the freeway. Really wish they had tracks so that we could've closed them. I'm also not a fam of carpet as it adds to the outdated feel of the place. Also had bagels, pastries, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cereal, oatmeal, coffee, tea and OJ. Check-in/check out process super easy. Ample well lit parking lot. Staff was nice, generally clean facility. Disliked · We were greeted with a surprise in our shower. In the soap dish, a used bar of soap covered in hair. This is unacceptable and surely must be on the housekeeping checklist to ensure this is not overlooked. I've stayed at this property numerous times and never had an issue with cleanliness. Also, management needs to change out all the bathroom exhaust fans. The noisiest fans I've ever encountered. Stayed here on July 4th because fireworks are illegal in Davis and brought my small dog to escape the war zone fireworks in my nearby town. The place was clean, great location, bed comfortable, nice coffee/breakfast area, and the people were super friendly. Rates are very reasonable. I will definitely return. read more

I suggest accepting a room far away from the pool area. Pool closes at 10PM and the noise was unacceptable. Glad we stayed at the opposite side of the building. Folks with rooms near the pool looked annoyed as they peaked out of their window. Parental supervision was nonexistent. Parking was great. I didn't feel the need to check on my vehicle ever so often. They also serve a decent breakfast that included scrambled eggs, sausage patties, bagels, pastries, waffles, fruits, and coffee. Given they are pet friendly, fleas are inevitable. We've seen several dead fleas on the floor and on the bedsheets. Never seen any live ones, but can't say for sure they weren't there. At the very least, it seems they did made an effort to control the problem. read more

Transparency goes a long way and this place is not. They are part of Project Roomkey and are housing the homeless and still taking reservations with the public without informing anyone of this. The first floor reeks of cigarettes. At night you can enjoy screaming, banging on walls, actual people being thrown at walls, and complete bedlam. The parking lot and just outside the front doors the homeless are smoking or wandering around. No government agency or non profit is keeping tabs on anything going on and the staff looked exhausted. I have always stayed at this hotel when up for the weekend for a seminar. Never again. They no longer have a breakfast area but offer a bagged one. I said no thanks to that and when I was asked how my stay was I could only give a bewildered look. The staff person who asked replied with " I totally understand" I then left to go to a very important and expensive test that day on almost no sleep. How any company could think they can operate like that is ridiculous and should be embarrassed. While Project Roomkey is an amazing idea it does not work for the rest of hotel guests that are paying not staying for free. read more

Just stayed in #215 on the 5th of August while my kid was at Davis's orientation. I have stayed in many hotels and I thought this place was great! Yeah the chair was worn and you could hear the freeway, but that's because it's right off the freeway. What impressed me was that the place was clean, they had fresh fruit, coffee and tea in the lobby or you could just make coffee in your room, and staff was great. I've been to many hotels that accepted dogs and the hotel hallways always smelled like pee, but this hotel didn't. What got me was that this was the first hotel that had really awesome mattresses. I'm being dead serious too! I've been to places where the beds were tiny and felt like an air mattress on its last leg. This bed was heavenly! I'd love to find out what the mattress is because I can't stand my overpriced tempurpedic. If I had to complain about anything, I think it would be about the elevator being slow and the blackout drapes not being wide enough to black out the window. HOMELESS SHELTER ALERT! Great for the community but bad for unknowing travelers. They have taken in older homeless people, along with which comes sketchy people in the parking lot at ALL HOURS, screaming gibberish in the middle of the night (happened to me, 2am-3am), bad homeless smells (sorry homeless people) and overcompensating cleaning products that also smelled bad. When I called the front desk at 230 am to ask if they were going to address the screaming person in back of the hotel, he simply told me, "Oh thats just Sherry. She's a long-term tenant. I'll go talk to her." Like that was supposed to make me feel any better. No apologies. Homeless people require a different skill set than a hotel manager / cleaning crew have. Especially during covid, I found this to be more of a threat to my health where I should have been feeling very safe and restful. Everything should have been super duper clean and instead everything had a smell and a greasy film and a grime to it. Also, the little things. I reported that the remote didnt work for the TV. Instead of bringing me a new one or fixing it she just came to the room and turned the TV on by hand, on the TV set. Later I dropped the remote at the front desk and asked if they could give me a working one. I came back and they handed me the same one. The girl told me she replaced the batteries so it SHOULD work but she wasn't sure because the batteries she used were just found loose, not out of a new package. (Guess if the remote worked or not.Spoiler alert: It didn't) Good part: The staff and manager were really nice and they gave me a full refund. I canceled the second night of my stay and went to the Hyatt at UC Davis campus. (5 star) I will never stay at the La Quinta again. read more

Location: Right off the 80, so freeway noise is present. Somewhat far from downtown and campus. Across the street from a Starbucks though. Plenty of parking. Service: Long story short, we will not be staying here again. Made a reservation through hotels.com and expected a suite and got anything but. Staff said they had nothing like what we had booked and also refused to acknowledge the straight up lie as well. We appreciated that the manager tried to do a little something for us monetarily but it irked me that we had to go back and forth on it so much. Just admit that we were in the right and don't call yourself La Quinta Inn AND SUITES if you have no real suites! Our family was going up over Spring Break for our daughter to check out UC Davis, where she'd been accepted. We needed a place that would take dogs for our two small Maltipoo sisters. I found this hotel doing a search and the price was excellent. The hotel is clean, quiet, well maintained and a great staff that aims to please. Beverly, the wonderful lady who maintains the full breakfast operation runs a tight ship and the food was outstanding (waffles, hard boiled eggs, sausage, bacon, juice, coffee, cereals, muffins, etc.) and the table areas clean and ample. The pool and Jacuzzi were clean and well maintained, as were the rooms/bathrooms. The linens were clean and new and the queen beds and pillows super comfortable, with spotless bathrooms and great shower pressure. This things all matter, and they have them covered here. There's a good and authentic Chinese dimsum and seafood restaurant adjacent to the large parking lot. Will definitely stay here again when in Davis. read more

The staff are great but the rooms are not only EXPENSIVE (even with hotels tonight) but also smelled like a wet old person upon entering. I kid you not! Also the elevator had etched graffiti on the metal...the TV volume ONLY ALLOWS YOU TO GO UP TO 25 as a noise complaint deterrent but it doesn't take the loud sound of the AC into account whatsoever which was absurd...we couldn't hear the TV at all! This place was absolutely disgusting. If I could give it less than one star I would. The outside is surrounded by homeless people and I'm positive somebody was living in their car in the parking lot. The elevator was non operational and the fan in my bathroom sounded like a truck was about to fall through the ceiling. The hallway outside my room smelled of vomit and alcohol, I'm pretty sure they housed homeless people there during the pandemic. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Lots of free parking. The hotel was not busy with guest. The room was nice. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom however is ready for an upgrade. It was clean, but the grout between the tiles on the floor were loose which made the tile loose. The pool was small, dirty and freezing cold, it is not a heated pool. The grounds are spewed with trash and food.( food being distributed to homeless weekly to this location) The rooms are stripped of necessities i.e. clock, hair dryer, ice bucket. The breakfast consisted of a granola bar. Emergency door was paddle locked closed. This hotel should not be accepting paying guests and should update website so others do not choose it. Covid virus infected Hotel as of 8 16 21 according to the security guard there whose words were quote-unquote we don't need the public infected you have to leave. I've stayed here when it was still the Holiday Inn Express, and it's my go-to hotel when I need it, even though I had an apartment in Davis. Most recently, I had a crappy housemate and a mouse problem, which led to many sleepless nights and just being frustrated with dealing with it all. So, I booked a room online (which offered cheaper rooms than calling in) and was able to check-in that same day. The service was fantastic, I complained about the mini fridge not working properly, and the cutest front desk guy spent some of his lunch hour to personally replace the fridge (real cute guy). Just this incident put a huge smile on my face LOL. Anyway, he was extremely nice, along with the housekeepers, and the breakfast hostess. The room was clean with 2 queen beds that were super comfy, hd tv, and a desk with the most awesome chair to do my homework! It was slightly creepy having the room at the end of the hall by myself, but it was peace and quiet. It is pretty pricey during the peak seasons, but I think La Quinta is much more comfortable and cleaner than Hallmark Inn and Best Western and it's in a desirable location next too all the eateries. Our family and small dog spent 2 nights here. Pros: Fairly comfortable beds. Friendly staff at check-in and check-out. Decent breakfast (neither the best nor the worst I've ever had). Clean. No bugs. No bites. Smells clean. Quiet if you don't have a room on the pool side. Housekeeping staff is friendly and accommodating. We left our dog in the room while we took a campus tour and housekeeping gave us new towels before we left so no one would need to enter the room. Free parking. Close to some great Mexican restaurants. Close (5-7 minutes) to UC Davis. Cons: When you turn on the bathroom light, the fan automatically goes on, and it's loud. It's easy to hear people walking down the hall or in the room above you. It's almost as if they're hitting a drum. Poorly constructed building, I guess. Tip: Don't stay on the pool side. I try to rate hotels based on the type of hotel it is. You cannot rate a budget hotel with the same criteria as a luxury hotel. So this review is for a budget friendly hotel. I have stayed at this hotel many times and it was always fine for the level of this hotel. The rooms are clean, the staff friendly, the breakfast is what you would expect. The last couple of stays shows a definite decline. This last stay was especially bad. The first morning, I went to breakfast at 6:50 am. They were out of eggs and oatmeal and apparently didn't get their delivery of breads and pastry. They generally have plain bagels, some type of flavored bagels, white, wheat and raisin bread, and some type of pastry (packaged type, not fresh). They had no plain bagels, which is my usual for this hotel, or pastries. After about 10 minutes, more eggs were brought out. I settled for eggs and toast. I left my room by 8:30. I came back at 12:20. The room was not made up, but I know they do the checked out rooms first so I assumed they would come later. I left less than an hour later, about 1:15. The cleaning person was one room past mine on the floor when I left, and the television was on when I walked by. When I returned at 6 pm, my room was still not serviced. I went to the front desk where I was asked if I left the do not disturb sign out, which I did not. I was told it should not have happened, got an apology and an offer of fresh towels. At this point, most hotels would have offered free points or something else to make up for the inconvenience, but that didn't happen. The next morning I waited a little longer to go to breakfast. Again there were nearly no eggs, but I did get a bagel. I was bringing food up to my husband, so I again waited over 10 minutes for more eggs. None were brought out, so I scraped the scraps out of the bottom. At check out, I let the desk person know about the previous day and that morning. I had the offer to talk to the manager, but I just wanted to leave by that point. Hopefully the decline is not due to La Quinta becoming part of the Wyndham group, but my last couple of stays, where the quality declined, was after that happened. Also, I always used to get a follow up email with a survey that the manager would respond to. No survey was sent this time so I decided to post a review here. For the price, I would normally give this hotel 3 or 4 stars, but based on the last 2 visits I would like to give 1 (last time) and 0 (this time). The price is on the low end, but not low enough for this level of service. I am giving it 2 stars based on past experience, the fact that the rooms are still clean, and most of the staff is friendly. Hopefully they can turn around the downward trend. read more

Checking in my expectations were high. Looked nice on the outside and the desk man was pleasant. Rooms looked like they had been updated in the last 10 years. Mostly clean so glad the hotel was non smoking since the hallways reeked of pot I guess that doesn't count as smoking. Bed was clean and firm the pillows helped. I had booked this hotel as we were visiting our daughter a student at Uc Davis and figured a hot breakfast since we didn't know the town would be a great way to start our day. That's when things went wrong hot breakfast is negotiable. Breakfast was served 7-10. When we arrived at 8 am there were maybe 6 people eating. There were 2 waffle machines an empty hash brown warmer and some burnt sausage and some oatmeal. I hose oatmeal in my paper cup and looked around for some toppings or sugar which there wasn't. So I added some milk and went to find the coffee station maybe there would be sugar. There was only the pink, yellow and blue. So I walked to the front desk carrying my oatmeal and asked if there was sugar. She sent someone to get it I sat and watched my oatmeal getting colder when I saw her arrive at the coffee station to add some more pink, yellow and blue sugar??? Then I spotted it 2 mismatched reg sugar packets!! Did she find them in her purse??? So I took the 2 and added them to my now freezing oatmeal. Yuck cold oatmeal I wanted to grow it out but then I remembered there was NO MORE sugar. The orange juice was water, there was a container full of ice I wonder what that was yogurt maybe? There were no eggs of any kind to speak of and I did hear another guest leaving complaining to the front desk that he had been there for multiple days with the same bad breakfasts. If u need a semi clean place to stay in Davis I would give it 2 stars if your expecting breakfast DONT I won't be staying here again if I wanted continental breakfast I could have stayed somewhere cheaper read more

To top it off every time you turn on bathroom light the fan automatically goes on and is extremely loud! Stayed here for the Davis Livestrong Challenge. The cons: On arrival noticed hair in the bathroom sink and corner of the floor, blood stain on the comforter cover. Also found that the 'clean' bath towels had hair and dirt on them. Fridge is noisy at night and woke me up a couple of times. In addition to that I thought I could hear what sounded like a train passing by in the middle of the night. The pros: Their breakfast doesn't usually start until 7am, but they were nice enough to start it at 6am to accommodate all the Livestrong riders that had to be at the starting line of the event at 7:15am. read more
