This is a typical best western facility. No bells and whistles just a decent night sleep. Most of the people there had cars and were there because there was someone on campus that they knew. I was there for a conference. Which was in walking distance of the university otherwise quite frankly, I would've chosen somewhere else. But it was quiet. And that's what I needed. The decor is nothing to write home about. And I personally hate dark carpets because I never feel like they're actually really clean. But that's what you get when you stay at the best Western. Everybody knows I'm a Bonvoy guy (Marriott, Sheraton, W, etc.) but the City of Davis's only Bonvoy property is a Courtyard all the way in East Davis, a million miles from the UC Davis campus and downtown Davis. The solution? Forget Bonvoy for awhile and check into the well-priced University Lodge, located on the edge of campus and right downtown. The location is a 10! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but this place has everything. Free parking, free breakfast, in-room microwave, fridge, safe, big big flat screen with Netflix, comfy bed, neat and clean, never saw a bug. Super friendly staff who let me check in way early because they had a room ready. Bring your own La Mer of course, but with the money you are saving here, the Miracle Broth is well within reach. My new go-to for downtown Davis stays. read more

The bathroom had virtually no counter space, which made it difficult to store toiletries and personal items. The hotel is older, although some updates have been made over the years. Unfortunately, our bathtub drain was clogged for the first two days of our stay, so every shower resulted in standing in several inches of dirty water until maintenance was able to unclog it. Housekeeping was also limited, as rooms are not serviced until the third day of a guest's stay. While this may be hotel policy, it would have been helpful to know in advance. In addition, one of the male employees at the front desk was not particularly friendly or welcoming, although we did not get his name. The biggest disappointment was the price. Rates were increased dramatically for graduation weekend, and the overall experience did not justify the premium cost. I was also told there were no rooms available with two beds for the duration of my stay. However, my aunt checked in the following day and was assigned the room next to ours, which had two double beds available. Overall, the location was convenient for visiting UC Davis, but the condition of the hotel, service issues, and inflated graduation weekend pricing made it difficult to feel that the stay was a good value. read more

Bed Bugs. This is my first time ever encountering them while travelling. We checked into room 124 and shortly after everyone sat down, there was one crawling up a pillow in our bed. We brought it to the front desk to show them, they confirmed, and I asked to be moved to another room. They did. But they also told us that the owner authorized that night would be free. We spent a lot of time at the laundromat washing literally everything and because you can't wash luggage, we had to spend the rest of our trip living out of garbage bags. We had driven up so it's not something we picked up elsewhere. If bed bugs are supposed to be out in the middle of the night, it did us a favor by coming out early. It wasn't small either. When we squished it, it was a juicy sucker. We spent the rest of our stay there looking for signs of insects, worried about being bitten, etc, Not really sleeping. Remember how they said that night would be free? We had to check out early to get to our next destination and the early morning clerk didn't give me a print out or anything. So I checked when I got home. They removed a room change charge to change rooms but we still got charged for the night. Not cool. For the wasted time and expense, pay extra to go somewhere else. Don't risk it. And that's hard for me to say because this hotel is in a good location near campus, across the street from Black Bear. read more

Booked this place for a quick overnight stay visiting Davis campus. Excellent location. Three minute walk to edge of Davis campus (student union side), one minute walk in the other direction to Downtown Davis. Two minute walk north to local park. Accommodations are satisfactory, not fancy. Coffee maker in room and fridge. Perfect for what we needed, and rate was reasonable compared to others we looked at. We didn't have time for the breakfast, but staff was pleasant and welcoming. Allowed us to do early check in since we arrived before check in time. I called ahead to check. It's a place to sleep. It's not going to kill you and they are pet friendly but we didn't have a great night. The beds are super soft which is ok and the people who work their are super nice. Some of the major downsides we had was our room was super hot and the A/C didn't work right it would only turn on for 5 mins then would turn off right away. It was cold outside (50F) but it was nearly 80 in our room. It is also loud all night. It's a college town so that's to be expected but you should be aware. It's a bit pricey for what you get... My room window AC sounded like a jet starting. The fixtures are dated and the mattress was cheap. Like many hotels now, they only clean when you ask which is just lazy. We booked a room at the Best Western University Lodge, as we have had good experiences with Best Western Hotels. The exterior of the hotel was great! nicely updated - however no pool (which was okay) they did have a jacuzzi - however, it had murky-looking (dirty) water and was only warm, not hot (could be that it was broken??) So, we opted not to get in. We stayed in Room 127 (Oct 13, 2023) - We should have left at the moment we opened the door, but we got there at 11:30 pm after a 5-hour drive and decided to overlook the peeling wallpaper and dirty carpet. The next morning (with sunlight) we noticed a bug on the wall (not a bedbug), caked-on dust on and around the windows, dust bunnies, trash behind and between the bed and dresser, more peeling/cracking wallpaper and paint, and multiple stains on the carpet, and the comforter had black dirt stains int he edges (definitely not washed previously). In the bathroom, there were cracks around the sink, half a roll of toilet paper, and a shelf that was tilted so you could not use it (looked like it had been broken off the wall and someone "tried" to fix it) This room is in desperate need of a remodel. Not to mention that the college students staying above our room, were fighting and wrestling, which sounded like they were going to come through the ceiling. We selected this motel because of the proximity to downtown and because it had a hot tub. Out of habit, we called before making the reservation to ensure the hot tub was available. We were told it was. But.. the hot was not available. It was broken. And we learned it was out of service for some time. The motel was nice enough and except for a dismal free breakfast, it was ok. I contacted the manager direct a few days later to mention about the hot tub out of service. I was thoroughly dissatisfied. The manager for some reason I cannot understand seem to take an adversarial approach to us and our comments about the hot tub. If you have another choice in Davis, I would take that. This Best Western for me would be a last resort only if no other lodging were available. read more

We chose this place because of its proximity to UC Davis and decided to walk to a student orientation from the hotel. The location is ideal for that. Pluses: Walking distance to UC Davis and restaurants, very clean and updated rooms, comfortable beds, super-inexpensive Minuses: Small rooms, bathrooms with insufficient sink counter top space, noisy AC, cramped and somewhat limited exercise room, free breakfast but nothing really worth eating other than some fresh fruit (coffee was really gross), VERY SLOW internet service Would I return? No. But I'd say that it met our needs in visiting the UC Davis campus. read more

My husband and I both enjoyed our stay here. It was really quaint since it is situated in the heart of downtown. You can easily walk to all the local restaurants nearby. I really liked eating at Hunan's restaurant, btw. Anyways, we got a corner room and it was pretty quiet. I thought the rooms were relatively spacious for what we paid. The staff seemed pretty nice when we checked in and out. They were pretty efficient. The morning breakfast was minimal but good enough to get you through the morning. I loved how they had plenty of parking. Another great plus was that their tv has all the good channels like Food Network and Travel. The only tip I have for you is that if you book this hotel through priceline or a third party, make sure you ask for a King sized bed. I had fun staying here during thanksgiving weekend. I suppose it wouldn't have been so nice if school was in session. I always critique the toilet...this one was also a tiny Miniature toilet that many motels have installed to save money and make the toilet room bigger. Sorry folks...I HATE tiny toilets...and i'm only 155 lbs. This building is old....loud when kids are outside screaming and cars are driving by. Breakfast was lame compared to other Best Westerns. Staff seems great. Rooms were some of the worst we have stayed at. 6 of us in town for the career fare, and all six of us had issues with our rooms. You can hear everything through the thin walls of these rooms, the streets, people talking, especially people walking in their rooms above you. The refrigerators all made terrible noises every half hour or so, seemed like all the compressors were shot. Room did not seem very clean or functional. My showers had the temperature fluctuate from hot to cold throughout them(without me adjusting it). I would not recommend staying here read more

A decent place to stay in Downtown Davis. The room was clean and serviceable and had a nice clock with USB slots for convenient device charging. Breakfast is included with the rate which is nice - expect a typical continental breakfast with eggs, bacon, waffles, pastries, yogurt, cereal, milk, coffee and juice. The best thing about this hotel is its location - one block east of UC Davis and on the edge of Downtown Davis for food and nightlife. The hotel also offers free parking, which is another plus. Most of the restaurants and bars will be two or three blocks east of the hotel - a quick 10 or so minute walk. Overall, I'd stay here again if I wanted to visit Davis on a budget and stay in a good location. read more

Everything was great except the fecal smear on the bathroom door. I am sure it was just overlooked in the cleaning process but it made me want to sanitize all the handles and switches. Fortunately there was complimentary hand sanitizer for this job. There was also toothpaste but I wish there had been lotion, both of which I had forgotten. The alarm in my room was set for 6am! I was so mad to be woken up at 6am! I couldn't figure out how to turn off the alarm and when I called the front desk for help, the guy told me just to rip it out of the wall. NO sympathy that I was up at 6am when I had paid $160 for a good night's rest! I was so upset. He told me the manager would give me 20% back but I never saw it. The dresser, taking up a sizable chunk of the floor space, seems like a poor choice for a room of this size. They probably should have purchased something a bit smaller. The rooms are dated, the mattresses are cheap, the bathroom is very small, they have the cheapest soap and shampoo and do not even offer conditioner. The worst part is, the walls are very thin. I was awakened numerous times by the people above me just walking in their room not to mention the intimate, unwelcome invitation I had to the couple in the room next to mine trying their hand at procreation. There was absolutely zero muffling of the sound. The positive of this hotel is it's location BUT, the reason I give this hotel such a low rating is, for the same price or just a tad more per night, you can stay in a much nicer hotel with better beds, acoustics, decor, coffee with a convenient location as well. read more

Loved [almost] everything about this place. The room was spacious and very clean. I loved the sheets on the bed so much and it was so comfortable that it was hard to get up in the morning. The bathroom was well lit. I did think the toilet was rather low, though. The television had a slightly low quality. The free continental breakfast was great! Right in the middle of campus and downtown. Walking is an ideal situation considering downtown parking. The hotel has two small parking lots. Good location. Central to downtown and the UC Davis Campus. Free Parking and Free Breakfast. The breakfast was better than most other hotels we have tried in Davis. Located a block away from the train tracks so its not as noisy as some other Davis hotels. Parking has a low clearance of 6'7 so SUV's fit but a big truck won't. Limited additional parking is available. We had a big problem with our first room, but the hotel staff took care of it and moved us to a nice King room in the front. It was in much better shape. The new room was bigger, clean, bigger bath and vanity, and good seating area. I would pick my room carefully and change rooms if you don't like it. There is a also a nice small hot tub that is private and clean. read more

Stayed here to facilitate a visit to the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital. This place was a delight, and a fabulous value. Clean, tidy, a lovely and abundant breakfast included. The proprietors obviously invest a lot of their own time and energy making certain the place is well run. It isn't the Ritz or the Four Seasons, but neither is its pricing. Used this place as a crash pad on a recent night in Davis with some buddies to relive our college glory days (except in college, we didn't go to bed at midnight). This is is much nicer than I expected for a Best Western and considering the great price we got! Rooms were clean, newly re-done it looked like and the front desk staff was very friendly. Their fee for bringing a dog is super reasonable - I hate when hotels try to charge 40+ per night for a dog - the Best Western was much more reasonable. We didn't try the breakfast so can't comment on that. Fitness center was small but looked well appointed. The patio furniture and umbrella in the upstairs area was a nice place to lounge. I should have written this review years ago. Over the years for professional reasons I've had to touch down in Davis three, sometimes four nights a week for months at a time. For a few years I stayed at the Motel 6 out by the expressway--a meanly adequate but soul-killing experience. Then I discovered these guys and I have been using them ever since. They've never failed me: clean, well-equipped rooms courteous and helpful staff. An exercise room that is small but up to the job. Easy walk into campus or into town. Motel breakfast. It's not a luxury resort but for I'm just here for work--much rather save the money for a proper splurge on vacation. Bottom line is it's a pleasure to deal with people who have made it so easy for so long. Couple of points for authenticity Breakfast is indeed motel minimal. For more elaborate fare (and much better coffee) I will pop over to the funky student joint across the street. Air conditioner/heaters can be loud. Upstairs rooms get pretty hot in Davis' Levantine summers. But at this price and this level of amenity, you aren't going to do any better. read more

This cozy 52 unit motel is located in downtown Davis, only 2 blocks from the University. It is the ideal location for anyone who wants to walk or bike (the property has a few bikes you can borrow to feel like a real Davis local) to the campus, or just to a local restaurant for lunch. The property has wireless internet, a continental breakfast, as well as a refrigerator and microwave in each room. There are also a couple suites (254 and 111) available that include kitchenettes. This is where I always stay when I'm in town, and given my positive experiences, I never plan on looking elsewhere. read more
