Rooms are updated and clean. The pillows, which can make or break your stay were middle of the pack for me, but that's personal preference. (and it might be because my big old head needs more support) The only time we saw other guests was during breakfast. and wow did we see the other guests! We woke up relatively early thinking we wouldn't have a problem getting in & finding a table. Well, apparently everyone else also had this idea. The place was packed! It's worth noting that the breakfast area is super small, so it may be in your best interest to come at an off time. Or take it back to your room. Overall this is a great place to stay!

I arrived and was greeted, no issues with check in... pretty simple. I had been driving all day and wanted to work off some stiffness. I hit the gym and pool. This is where it started to go downhill. The treadmill, bike, freeweights, and cable machine... were all damaged or broken. So, it basically killed that idea. I instead got in the pool and swam a few laps. When i was done, i got out dried off and went back outside where some individuals were having a very loud, very racist, conversation... i went next door to McAlisters and snagged some food then went back to my room. There was a family staying across from me who were also sitting outside in fold up chairs. I would be under-selling it, if i didnt say that they were in and out of their rooms every 20 minutes, for 4 hours... the clicking of the door got very old. Breakfast was good. Checkout was nice... Overall the hotel was decent, but the stay was rough.

But this Holiday Inn Express was by far the cleanest and I do mean clean! You can literally smell the cleanliness as you walk through the doors. The staff was also nice and inviting. I immediately felt comfortable and I did not hesitate to compliment the cleanliness. The room was super spacious. I am not sure if all the rooms come that size or I got lucky to get a suite but VERY spacious made my 5 day trip a breeze that's for darn sure. The room was spotless. And at this hotel they do offer daily housekeeping which has been phased out since COVID. The breakfast bar was standard, nothing special but the do offer complimentary teas and coffee throughout the day. And they do have a nice little selection at their marketplace. Plus, I didn't know this but in the event that you forget certain toiletries they also will provide you with them free of charge. And if you forgot your soap they have Dove in each room. The best part about this Holiday Inn, you are conveniently located to everything and I do mean just that. Restaurants, gas stations, Walgreen's and the interstate to easily get back on your journey. I highly recommend Firefly **I left a review on there as well.** There is plenty of parking so you don't have to worry if you would have a space. I have zero complaints about my stay. But I did give 4 stars due to some upgrades going on during my stay, something with wiring and that particular staff didn't make it easy to always get around them.

This is the most ridiculous thing ever at this point.... They want me to wait til Monday (it's Thursday) to see if it goes through and then they will have to mail me a check if it doesn't! I'm beyond pissed at this point I just want my fucking money you wrongfully took ..... I will never stay at another holiday inn express again and if you don't have an extra 400 to be tied up for 5 going on 6 weeks you shouldn't either!

An older, dated Holiday Inn but very clean and excellent customer service…read more The front desk employee was very friendly and enthusiastic when I checked in at 9 pm. My room was nice and very clean. I ordered room service as soon as I got to my room and it was delivered quickly. The salad was excellent and the hummus and pita bread appetizer was very good as well. I appreciated that this hotel was quiet. One issue I have had with hotels in Effingham is that it is hard to sleep due to the noise from the trucks in the interstate. Nearly all the Effingham hotels are located near the crossroads of two major interstates: I-70 and I-57. Both interstates have very heavy truck traffic 24 hours a day, and most of the hotels I have stayed in here are not quiet, you can hear trucks rumbling by all night long. This Holiday Inn is quiet, maybe because it is older and better built? I don't know but it was much easier to get a good night's sleep here. I appreciated that all the hand sanitizers were operational and full of sanitizer. Many hotels I visit have neglected to refill their sanitizers.

Of course I had to do this during the time change, so sunset happened earlier than normal. The Holiday Inn chain has a standard and this location filled that standard. I was greeted by Ryan at the front desk and he was a perfect fit for the job. I made the reservation on my cellphone, and didn't know what I was in for, it turned out to be a treat. I had met Kenny, the locations manager, and he helped me in the same manner. Needless to say I was exhausted after the long drive and I had dinner within the lobby. I wasn't sure if I could make the longer drive and everyone here made me feel like family. Thank you all for the great visit at Effingham's better hotel location, I will be back again.

PROS: -We wanted an easy pitstop hotel for an overnight's stay on a long drive. This one is directly (I mean, closer than the gas station!) to the highway. -Speaking of, the "gas station" next to this place is an odd, but cool, Jack Flash. I've never heard of it (maybe it's local to the area???), but it has a fantastic liquor store and gift shop attached to the gas station. For grabbing something on your route, it's probably one of the better options I've seen. -Speaking of, when you're in town, there are a few fast food places, so you can easily grab something at night or in the morning and get right back on the road. Tiny town entirely filled with off-the-highway things. -Parking lot is right next to the hotel with tons of space. It's closer than the parking lot at my own apartment. -There's an elevator despite only having two floors. You don't have to worry about lugging stuff up stairs. -The bed is SUPREMELY comfortable. I'd say this is one of the best hotel best I've slept on in years. -While the place definitely feels like an old building, they've done a fantastic job keeping it up here. It does have that "classic, old hotel" smell, but it's not offensive (kinda soothing, really). The room is clean, they've updated the furniture, nothing looks super spotted or gross, bedside lamps have plug-ins in them, etc. Probably one of the better older hotel buildings I've been in, too. -AC did a great job overnight in the summer. It was a great icebox in here. CONS: -The shower floor is a bit slippery. Water pressure and heat are good, but just be careful getting into the first step of the shower. -Check-in was really weird, and it was by-far the longest check-in experience I've ever had. It took about 10 minutes while we were holding all of our stuff, and the woman didn't really talk to us. She picked up the phone, listened to the phone for a long time, didn't really say anything, and we kinda stared at the floor. At a certain point, near midnight in a city we were unfamiliar with and right off the highway, we were looking at our exits in case we were being stalled for someone to rob us - it was THAT awkward, quiet, and unnecessarily long.

It's also by a gas station, so it's got everything you need if you're passing through. The hotel is quiet, clean, and felt safe. They had soft beds, which was great. The staff was very friendly, too. We will absolutely come back next time we are heading through! Rating a 4 because of the water pressure and bc our AC was not working well. But otherwise was great!

The motel is a little older, but this was probably the best outfitted accessible bathroom I've ever stayed. There was a bath chair, a hose-sprayer, and more grab bars no matter where you needed them. There was also plenty of room to maneuver with my walker. Comfortable furniture and outstanding lighting on the bedstead. The door was right inside the main door, which made my back and knees really grateful. One thing that might bother others is that entry and lobby noise is apparent. Luckily, it didn't bother me, especially when it was explained that it makes it easy for the front desk to make sure the occupant able to get immediate help if necessary. The manager, Myriah went out of her way to make my move in and departure much easier (to the point of handling my luggage.) TJ, the night clerk, made sure I had anything I needed. The neighborhood is loaded with more restaurants than I could count. I had to go out to grab a drive-thru meal because most of the places closed too early for delivered meals by the time I was ready.
