Glad they were passionate about their fields too. - Their dance club organization was poorly executed. For every assembly performance, you were required to show up to practice 4am the day of or else you wouldn't be allowed to participate, even if you had been loyally attending all weekly practices prior. Smacked her daughter so loud you could hear it with all the noise inside. I watched as the daughter was about to eat a sample only to be smacked! The daughter just looked straight ahead and took the verbal lashing her mom gave her. A teenage boy soon arrived to say only a few words only to be loudly scolded by the narcissistic mom, boy looked down in silence. Now that it's over - 4 years of pretty much running for academic validation with horrible academic support. Office staff 2/10 - rude over the phone and rude in person. The Vietnamese lady is rude over the phone Yolanda is just rude overall. Another thing kids seem to be getting suspended or expelled here left and right - admin doesn't seem to mind doing paperwork for some pretty stupid offenses. This school seems to be having a lot of problems especially since the whole lucero situation and New admin. Before covid the problems started and after covid Admin consistently changed every year. Now they have a principal that no one seems to like and a whole admin team that i've not heard one good thing about. Even the mention of admin names to teachers is met with sighs and some pretty negative comments. They also have a church bell thing going and seemed to have changed a lot of the sports coaches all of the new ones seem to be doing pretty badly. Counselors I want to say that are helpful but it really depends on who you're talking to. To sum it all up LQ is a school of high academic rigor and standards. Standards which are met pretty much with unnecessary rigor at many points, absolutely no fun events, and staff with a superiority complex. They seem to all be pretty attached to the idea of power and being #1. In terms of academics we are dwindling, in terms of quality of life in GGUSD we're probably dead last. read more

Worst experience ever coming to this school I have never felt so so discriminated at WGASC competition. I just wanted to enjoy watching my child perform when not only one but 3 persons ask me to move to the performer section just because I had the silver bracelet I felt discriminate because there was other people with the silver bracelet but they were not asked to move ..I didn't even enjoy watching my child preformed. I was marked absent on Monday, 1/12/2025, and I was surprised when I found out that evening. My mom asked if I truanted school, and I denied it. When she showed me the notification that I wasn't in class, I was confused because I went to school that day and arrived on time, and my mom took me to school. She suggested calling the office, and the officer asked my teacher (Mr. Rodewald), who said he didn't see me in class that day. I felt frustrated because I clearly went to school, didn't leave during class, and had no reason to truant. The officer said that a sheet would be sent for the teacher to sign. My teacher was absent that day (Tuesday, 1/13/2025), so I couldn't get the signature. The substitute teacher asked if I was in the class yesterday, and I said I was. He also asked a friend of mine, who confirmed that I was in the gym that day. The substitute said it was fine and took the sheet back. I assumed he would give the sheet to the office, and that the office staff knew my teacher was absent on the day. So, I thought the sheet would be given to my badminton teacher the next day to pass to my teacher for the signature, but I think they didn't. On 1/16/2025, I was handed the sheet during my second-period makeup class on Saturday. I'm also wondering if the officers are really working carefully or else. Perhaps Mr. Rodewald in the gym either didn't see me or just pretended not to because he was too busy to deal with it. Mr. Rodewald is a teacher who doesn't supervise students during class; he's often on his phone and sometimes leaves the room. I don't like how he handles things, and I also question how the officers dealt with the situation, as they seemed rather careless, or maybe that's just how things are. I hope there can be some reconsideration of their way of working. read more

- Teacher 9/10 (really support the students) Big shout out to Cô Đào in Vietnamese class and Miss Zahm in ceramics class. - Office people: 4/10 (got bully one, then instead of the bully getting punishment... I'm getting the punishment) +easy to get angry. Especially on phone call. +will ignore what ever you trying say. - Counselor: 6/10 (will not reaching out to help the students) + They will do what they want to do with the students class schedule with no care about what the students really want, results in the students not having a good last year of the school. - Staff: 8/10 (friendly) - Safe environment. Better then the last 4 year. Don't have a lot of fighting any more. - The school are brand new and improved in many ways. I used to go here as my high school and oh boy, it was an experience. Every student here I know of was really rude to other students with autism and special ed students. I was one of those special students with autism that was trashed on. Even worse, the staff does NOTHING to counter these students and gives really bad advice saying that we should ignore them. In fact, ignoring them makes the situation worse. These students take advantage of your ignorance by spreading false rumors about you but other students seem to believe them due to the fact that this was done behind your back. These students who spread those false rumors are usually popular students. One time, I wanted to talk to this girl I had in PE class and we get to know each other until one other female student knew this and spread the rumor all around the freshman class and other freshmen attending next year saying that I stalked her. First off, I never wanted to stalk her the first place, I just wanted to meet her but just too scared to approach and get to know her. This is because I have autism and just never experienced with girls before because I never interact with girls in past school years. Now I may sound like i'm joking because I have a girl as my profile picture but i'm honestly telling the truth because I was a special ed student back then, I was more use to interacting with male students in my class and never interacted with anyone outside my class. I hate to remember these horrible things that happened in high school but it's worth discussing because this high school does not care about this issue but instead punishes me more for being involved in it thanks to the other students blaming on me due to the false rumors. Every staff keeps telling me to stay away from this girl because shes uncomfortable but they completely misunderstood the situation as I just wanted to get to know who this girl is as she was in the same class as I am. Honestly, I am lost with words to think that this school was considered to the best school back then and I completely regretted my decision. I wished I moved but I don't want my parents to know about it. Speaking of Parents, the same girl who spread false rumors about me decided to get my parents involved but sending really bad messages about me to my aunt and my mom. This made me feel bad that I nearly felt depressed for it. Ever since all of this happened to me, I nearly failed this school because I can't stop thinking of all the hate I've been receiving from students here. It prevents me from studying and paying attention in class. In general, this school is filled with bullies who do their best to ruin any special ed or autistic students' reputation towards the school while the staffs who work there do nothing about it but instead put the blame on those special ed or autistic students who were involved in the bullies so called false rumors. It happened to me before and people still mention about it.I know students have nothing to do with the school performance but it's worth noting because it helps any parent to think about their decision for their child on whether they feel safe with other students. I forget to mention this but the education in this school is harder than my college, which is Orange Coast College. Heck, i'm learning a lot better in college than in this high school. I mean, how is that even possible and no, I'm not negligent of my education. Basically, the education in high school is just pop quizzes every often, 200 questions on exams, rarely uses textbooks (rendering textbooks useless), rigged questions on test/quizzes, notes are rarely jotted down, teachers expect students to already know their material even though they rarely learn anything, and teachers take students phone away for really dumb reasons (one time, I had my phone taken away because I was taking a picture of my laptop. I went into a mental breakdown because of it as I had my phone for the rest of my life and there was no reason for her to take my phone). ' I'm not saying everyone who works at this high school are bad but most of them just don't care about their job and just don't care about their students. They are just there to educate the students and be done for the day without giving the students enough time to grasp through the subject. Do me a favor, Do NOT attend this school at all. Especially for special ed students. You're better off sending your child off to private school NOTE: I get I have a girl as my profile picture but I didn't bother changing it as I hardly use Yelp. I still remember the day I first came to America. I was in the LAX airport, looking around the totally strange place which was full of strangers. All I could hear was the strangers' buzzing. At that moment, I realized that I was in America, and my heart started to beat fast. Until Feb 27, 2009 I had never been away from my country, Vietnam. For 13 years, I had grown up being around people who used the same language as me. I was having.... However, my parents wanted to give me and my brother more chances in our education and lives. Because my eldest brother was over 21 so the U.S consulate in Vietnam didn't let him go to America with my family. I still remember the interview was really difficult my family had to answer all the questions correctly to prove the relation of my family with my grandparents' family in America. The interview took us about 30 minutes, the old photos taken for 13 years ago on the day my grandparents' family left Vietnam was being shown to the interviewers "a Singaporean man he spoke both English and Vietnamese and a Vietnamese female translator." They only questioned my dad and just a few questions for my mom. They asked questions such as, "What school I was going to, the name of the school, where the school located, ..." My family got the pink paper it meant my family got accepted. We bought airplane tickets right after the interview and left Vietnam as fast as we could because we didn't want to get into trouble with the government where we lived. We left everything behind, On Friday Feb 27, 2009 in Tan Son Nhat international airport in Ho Chi Minh city. My family said Goodbye to our relatives. And the saddest thing was my eldest brother couldn't go with us. I still remember before I came to America, I only had 17 dollars in my pocket. It was raining so the flight was delayed about an hour. I was sad#earphoneson#listeningtomusicinmyipod# We came to LAX around at 11:30 PM. My grandfather and uncles were waiting for us outside. We got home at 12:10, I met my grandmother, aunts, uncle and cousins. Some of them I had a chance to meet before when they came back to Vietnam to visit. I had Pho ... The next day, my family had a party with our relatives "a lot of foods". I took the placement test couldn't understand what the teacher was saying to me even I began learning English when I was in 3rd grade. My grandfather took me to school with the report and the counselor scheduled me some classes "ELD basic, Algebra 2, P.E, Art .." Above all, language barrier was the biggest issue. First a few weeks, I was like a breathing statue who could not talk. I blushed like a tomato even before I opened my mouth. It was not only because of my poor English but also because of my lack of confidence. The first day in La Quinta High School, the lessons sounded like, "Let's,, blah ..you.. and blah blah.." The teacher I remember the most was Mr.Baker Le - He was my Math teacher he was really nice when he introduced me to the whole class I was shy @@, I didn't have any friend in my Math class because they all speak English, there was a junior she asked me to borrow my eraser. I don't remember her name but I saw her photo in yearbook bc ppl liked the way she dresses 'Mr.Baker's classroom is now Mr.Leon's classroom; he was moved to another high school - he told me that he came to America when he was just five, I saw him one time at Westminster Catholic Church on Easter night. He can speak Vietnamese but not really well. From the next day, I reread the books and tried to do my Math hw from time to time. Also, I used to "draw" the teacher's cursive note on my notebook and spent time at home to figure out what it meant. At night, I watched movies like High School Musical II with English subtitle and dictionary beside me. Day by day the strangers' sounds became words, and later on it finally became successive sentences to my ears. I could laugh at teacher's joke with my classmates. It took days and days for me to get English papers done and read text books for my exams. Simple words are not enough to describe how I felt when I saw myself improving day by day. Besides language barrier, as a side effect of dramatic change in environment, I suffered from the nostalgia and depression as well. I missed my friends and family in Vietnam so much, and my days used to start and end with deep sighs and tears. I just went to school and went back home. I didn't really talk with anyone. But by chance I made friend with a white friend in my sophomore year after the night I went to Winter Formal. He taught me a lot of new things. We still keep in touch until now. ........................... It is Feb 27, 2013, and here I am. "Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you. I walk through the rusted gates and immediately I hear "Ding dong, Teachers please close your doors, this is a tardy sweep." I think about this everytime I walk through the hallways of my home. I am forever traumatized anytime anyone rings the door bell I instantly run to a random room in the house. For starters, this schools education is wack I haven't started school yet and yet I have 4 F's already, the only C i have is in Ceramics and even then my teacher won't round it to an A. I've gotten lost due to the modernization of this campus. And although it's being remodel it's becoming more like a prison. The open windows in our new cafeteria seems like guards are watching our every move. The school admin are boring, they let us do nothing. I tried to start a fire and they gave me detention, they are so wack. Our dances seem like the people are forced to go by the teachers to make it seem fun. The office is absolutely rude and irresponsible. For summer applications, the due date was a week from now however the office failed to clearly inform students that they changed it to a week earlier. When turning in my application, they put the blame on ME saying I could've done it earlier however everyone was busy with AP testing. They disregarded my excuse. I talked to my counselor about the issue and she asked the same thing why I hadn't turned it in earlier and I explained the same thing but mentioned that I understood some of it was my fault however the application clearly said "May 24th" three times. Anyways, at least she took my application and checked to see if I had room. My friend on the other hand turned hers in on the same day but 2 hours later during break and she was told by one of the front office ladies that she forgot a signature and instead of kindly handing back the application, the office lady rudely threw it at my friend. This was not the first time the front office ladies were rude to my friends and me. BEFORE entering junior year I had asked to drop an AP class because I didn't think I could handle it. I asked my counselor about dropping it and she asked me what college I wanted to go to. I said a UC and she responded that if I didn't take that AP, I would end up in a community college and not any of my dream schools. Another time I struggled in a math class and only into the class at THREE weeks, I had asked to drop it and take a different AP math class instead however my counselor said if I dropped, she would be "forced" to give me an F. I brought my father into the situation and they told him that I could NOT drop a class that I was in for THREE weeks. The office is extremely rude and they do NOT listen nor understand their students. All they care about is forcing kids to take AP's they don't want to make their school ranking go up. They will threaten you with fears of not going to your dream school and ending up with a failing grade that will show on your transcripts. read more

This school is pretty unjust despite the phenomenal academic standards. The teachers treat the student very unfairly. For example a maths teacher MR. h vs MR T the difference is shocking in Mr H class there are no test correction no extra credit no re do's. Even getting 100% on two test won't bring you up a grade. But Mr T provides test corrections and extra credit and one summative assignment could help your grade. This is true. A real life happening. The staff clearly don't care about the students because if they did they would understand that this could be the end for some. Most of us want to go to college and this ruins everything. There are no changes in schedules this is life there is no going back. And what does the staff do, well they don't care. It's clearly unfair how some students can take the same class with different teachers and end up failing by two grades because of the difference between the two. The staff doesn't care, the students are always stressed, class changes are not possible, and no student had a voice. So just in case anyone sees this and actually feels bad inline any lQ faculty members, your ruining our lives, we are never going to make it to college. La Quinta fails to listen to the students. This school is good for education but that's about it. There is no spirit in this school. I am a freshman at this school and sadly I didn't know who our principal was but I did know who the principal was at fountain valley high school no offense to mrs Hallstead shes probably a great women but I didn't even know her. Then I got curious I asked 2 of my periods if they knew who our principal was out of 45 kids only 4 knew who our principal was. What has happened to the Aztec pride in my school only 8% of the kids were going to a dance only 8%! That's not even 10%. There is a rumor that la Quinta loses 200 kids to fountain valley. That's money the school could be using to make it self "better". But it seems like all this school cares about is education. Aren't dances important in social lives? It also seems to me that there's only two specific people in my school who really care about the students and about the school and there name is mrs Esquivel and mr Barton.mr Barton cares about everything in lq he believes we can turn all this around and make it good again. I'd rather go to fountain valley then this school I want a real high school experience. I care about my education I'm in special ed I care about my grades a lot I want to be a over achiever and get straight A's but I also want to have time to go to my school dance and socialize with others but how can I when only 8% of my school goes to dance and the others aren't interested or can't go because they have to stay home and study.
