I would give them 3 1/2 stars, not quite 4. Those who read my reviews have probably noticed I'm stingy with my startage (is that even a word?... Don't answer that!) This is a cramped little place full of Latin goodness. I came in to try those tacos my hubby had been raving about for days, and they didn't disappoint. I think I tried almost all of them, at $1.59 each how can you pass them up? The chorizo one was hands down my favorite! This is no restaurant by any means, they just have a section with a kitchen and a few tables where you can get some grub while you do your grocery shopping, or if you work in the area (lots of car shops and the such) you can have a tasty inexpensive lunch. It's out of the way for me, but I wanted to try it. Service of course isn't out of this world, as you pretty much order at the counter, but the ladies who run the kitchen are nice. You can't eat here and expect five star (or even four star) service, just take it for what it is, the quintessential hole on the wall. And I liked it! Me, who is in search of the best taco, was surprisingly pleased. Meanwhile, on the other side of the store, they have a plethora of Latin cuisine ingredients I haven't even heard of, all so cheap!! I spent quite a bit of time exploring. I bought meat at the butcher case and I loved the fact that you can get it marinated and the same stuff they use for the tacos in the kitchen. Makes my job easier when cooking. This too, may be a little bit of a turn off to some, as the store is old and may look a little worse for wear. If you aren't intimidated by this, come give them a try, if anything, it may open your eyes to different cultures and how they operate. This is a very Hispanic market. I shall be back! read more

La Ranchera Meat Market is a Mexican market offering fruits, veggies, meats like beef, chicken, pork, chorizo, seafood and the not so popular cuts like tongue, ears, feet. tripa, chicharron. This is a small supermarket which also offers Mexican and Latin products including a large variety of very reasonably priced fresh cheeses. I was thrilled to find fresh Queso Fresco cut to order for about $4 for an entire pound, definitely a great deal especially since a tiny package of this cheese in a prepackaged sealed bag is a lot more expensive at Publix, they also have other cheeses like Oaxaca cheese, and many others to choose from, most cut to order. I ordered the skirt Steak or what they call Fajita steak, I got 1 strip of the regular unseasoned and one of the pre-seasoned steaks, I was surprised by how very thin they were and I wasn't impressed with the quality, I like a thicker cut of Skirt Steak, I thought the pre-seasoned cut was overly seasoned, I didn't care for it. Also, the Chorizo came apart when we put it on the grill, the casing fell apart and it was quiet messy, again we weren't impressed with the quality. I asked the guy behind the meat counter if they had any thick cuts of steak and they didn't, they only have the less expensive cuts and they are already cut very thin, you won't find any NY Strip, Filet or Ribeye here. They also have a bakery and bake their own fresh breads, I didn't try any of the bread so I can't speak to its quality. The market offered many latin products, it also had a small beer bridge stocked with Mexican and American beer. Also, there is a Taqueria section on the side of the market where they sell fresh tacos and other dishes, I didn't try it so I can't speak to it either. I probably won't order meat from this place again, but the cheese was very fresh, I will definitely come back and try some of the other cheese options. I am not very adventurous and I don't care for weird cuts like Tripe or tongue, but I guess if you are into that type of meat you will love this place. 3 stars (A-Ok) for what it is, an inexpensive Mexican Market. read more

All I purchased was meat and it was legit! I purchased several pounds of marinated meat but they had non marinated as well. Meat was so good! I'll definitely be going back for meat in the near future. But it seemed like a fairly traditional Mexican market with a meat section and even a little restaurant. If I had know about the restaurant I probably would have come earlier and grabbed a bite before all the other shopping I was doing for grilling. Service seemed ok. I was with a Brazilian who spoke a little Spanish so we were fine. Otherwise I'd say pointing and number should be fine for the meat section. It seemed poorly organized and I wanted to look quickly before checking out but decided to just come back another day when I had more time. read more

The market side is pretty good for a small Mexican market. Good meat counter and inexpensive fresh produce and just about any dried chile and Mexican spice you could ever need. Spanish is the language of choice here but most of the staff can communicate in English as well. The Taquería is decent. The ladies behind the counter are very friendly and efficient. My only service disappointment is that there are no prices on the menu at all, so you have no idea what anything costs until you go to the counter to pay for it. I had tacos which were very affordable at $1.89 each. The chicken was quite good and the al pastor was just ok. The chicharrone was braised and soft which I didn't care for. I prefer them crispy. It was late in the day and they were out of asada and carnitas unfortunately. It's convenient to my house so I'll go back, but have definitely had better. read more

Despite the name this is not just a meat market but a complete Latin mini-market with a bakery. If you're looking for hard-to-find Mexican and Central American spices and condiments (like I was at the moment) this is the place. They take credit cards but not Amex; this is part of the reason to not give it 5 stars. Other reason is the organization. Items that should probably go together are found in different aisles but unrelated items are found next to each other. Also, their fruits and vegetables are rather scarce. What recipe calls for meats, sources, condiments but no vegetables? This means that you will have to go to a second store after your visit to this maker. read more

La Ranchera has a : Carniceria~standard fare for a meat market plus extras like chorizo, lengua, tripe Taqueria~separate section that sells prepared food--there is a steam table with already cooked dishes (steak, pork, chicken, lengua, chicharron, depends on the special of the day) and you can order it as a taco or as a platter with rice and beans. I usually get a couple of tacos (whatever looks good when she opens the lids--I don't speak Spanish--just singular words related to food--so I just point and say por favor and gracias) and all yummy (and really cheap--I think $1.50 each) so far. A while back, I was feeling under the weather and ordered the beef soup (caldo res) and although I have nothing to compare it to, it was quite delicious. Panaderia~baked goods are only good when fresh so, always ask when the pastries, breads were put in the display case--it's hit or miss. It is a very small but well stocked grocery store when you are looking for authentic Mexican ingredients. They have a good selection of dried chile peppers--pasilla, ancho, guajillo, and chile de arbol. The produce section is small yet adequate sometimes carrying items that you may or may not find a Publix.. I can always find serrano peppers here, as well as their delicious fresh corn tortillas (in a cooler by the cash register). read more

A bit chaotic experience, but yes i'm a fan. During lunch time it is muyyy busy. Not a lot of gringos, mostly lawn worker/construction types (a good thing) coming in for their mid day meal so try to come in either before or after the rush. I wish the ordering process can be streamlined. I stood in line and when it was my turn, the lady didn't really call or acknowledge me (there was no "next") so I went up to her and asked if they take cards since I didn't see a machine. It was in Spanish as I hadn't heard any English. She told me you order and eat up here, and then go up to the grocery cashier and pay there. So pretty much on the honor system. I asked for chile rellenos as it was the special, but she said they were out. So I ordered some tacos: al pastor, lengua and chicken for the wife. I also ordered a carnita sope and horchata. There were no chips so couldn't grade them. We headed over to the seating area, which they have a fair amount, There's a counter, tables in the middle and booths on the wall. It's a tight fit, but we were comfortable enough. It's just that it gets hot in there. The poor serving ladies were drenched in sweat. The one I placed my order with brought out my food soon enough... I was expecting to be called back up to the counter to pick it up. They came in a basket topped with onion and cilantro. Some of the cilantro had turned yellow, so had to pluck those out. The al pastor was typical but didn't match the flavor of Alegria Tacos and the lengua was a bit too chewy. The salsa verde was fresh and spicy flavor was ok. But when my sope arrived my eyes bugged out! This is one YUGE sope! And the carnitas meat was beautifully crisp. Only small prob with it was the tortilla was a bit too burnt. But it was mountainous to the point I had to eat half of it before I could pick it up. The takeaway when put up against the others on my list: Tacos are OK flavor not up to par Sopes are one of the best here! And the horchata... my favorite so far! It had a fresh sweet cinnamon-y flavor, only thing next time will ask for no ice. Didn't see tortillas or guac and you dont really have a menu or prices anywhere to reference. They were out of the day's special I wanted. May need to bust out your best Spanish here. Sadly, I wanted a picture of the Trump pinata but it must have been sold out. I went here with a Mexican friend of mine during lunch hour. It is a mall kitchen and dinning room located inside a Mexican grocery store. My friends tells me it is real Mexican, and he often grab a few Mexican candies to take with him from the grocery store. Make no mistake about it, this is small and humble place, but the food flavors are pretty good, the portions are big, and the prices are low. You see a lot of Mexicans eating here at lunch, that says something about the place. They use a honor system to pay during lunch, which means that you have to do the line again to pay after your are done eating. They need to work on improving that. But that's a small complaint considering you can have a good lunch with a drink for under $10. Certainly a place to consider when you want some tacos or well season food, you can also grab some reasonably price meats from the meat market on your way home. read more
