    a variety of meats

I was looking for a place to buy fresh steaks. Not the kind that sits on a styrofoam tray for days. A quick Yelp search helped me discover Rio's Meat Market. Rio's is conveniently located Off US1 in Lighthouse Point. The store is clean and has lots of Colombian groceries as well as regular domestic products. The Butcher area is clean with nice displays. I saw a sign for T Bone Steaks for $5.99/lb. what a deal! The lady behind the counter cut the huge meat slab to my specifications and packaged it so that I could easily freeze the portions I wasn't going to use immediately. The steaks were great and the price was fabulous.

Being a Mexican household in Fort Lauderdale makes it very difficult to find good places that…read moresupply food and ingredients that we can't find in your local Publix (Hispanic sections) this place brings us back home.

I would give them 3 1/2 stars, not quite 4. Those who read my reviews have probably noticed I'm…read morestingy with my startage (is that even a word?... Don't answer that!) This is a cramped little place full of Latin goodness. I came in to try those tacos my hubby had been raving about for days, and they didn't disappoint. I think I tried almost all of them, at $1.59 each how can you pass them up? The chorizo one was hands down my favorite! This is no restaurant by any means, they just have a section with a kitchen and a few tables where you can get some grub while you do your grocery shopping, or if you work in the area (lots of car shops and the such) you can have a tasty inexpensive lunch. It's out of the way for me, but I wanted to try it. Service of course isn't out of this world, as you pretty much order at the counter, but the ladies who run the kitchen are nice. You can't eat here and expect five star (or even four star) service, just take it for what it is, the quintessential hole on the wall. And I liked it! Me, who is in search of the best taco, was surprisingly pleased. Meanwhile, on the other side of the store, they have a plethora of Latin cuisine ingredients I haven't even heard of, all so cheap!! I spent quite a bit of time exploring. I bought meat at the butcher case and I loved the fact that you can get it marinated and the same stuff they use for the tacos in the kitchen. Makes my job easier when cooking. This too, may be a little bit of a turn off to some, as the store is old and may look a little worse for wear. If you aren't intimidated by this, come give them a try, if anything, it may open your eyes to different cultures and how they operate. This is a very Hispanic market. I shall be back!
