This place is super cute! If you are looking for authenticity, this is where you want to be! This little shopping center is full of authenticity. It seemed like Mexico's version of a "China Town" or "Little Italy" in Hoover. I have not seen anything like this around here. My friend Tina and I tried Mexican sweets here, and I also had a snack of the Crazy Doritos. This place is very whimsical and cute. Perfect for kiddos and families. There is a ton of space too. They have ice creams galore here. It was hard for me to choose! I went for the prettiest one I saw and that turned out to be the Birthday Cake flavor. It was delicious! Tina had the mangonada that looked very good. I was wanting a salty snack too, so when I saw the Dori-Lokos or "Crazy Doritos" I knew I wanted to try it. The lady working there asked me twice if pork skins was okay for her to top onto them. I said sure. Little did I know what I was about to experience! They were actual pork skins that were like a cartilage or jello like texture. I assumed they would be like the crispy bagged variety you see in stores. It was an experience for sure! I liked it, but I probably would not order it again. The Crazy Doritos were also topped with a sort of nut that I liked, cucumber, and hot sauce. I just can't believe I was not in Mexico when I came here. I'm really glad we have places like this that can make some people feel like home and allow other to just have a different experience. My daughter and I loved La Sobresita! This place is a hidden gem. We had many questions and the sweet girl behind the counter patiently answered them all. Yes, their popsicles are made with real fruit--you can see the chunks of fruit and it was hard to choose just one. In the end I picked a water based coconut (there are also cream based varieties). It was fabulous! I also wanted to try the strawberry Agua Fresca, which was refreshing and delicious. My daughter and I tasted several flavors of their delicious ice cream as well. The server was patient even though my daughter couldn't decide what to pick because there was a big variety. She also let her taste the boba beads to see which flavor she wanted for her drink. Such a cool place. I have a thing for chili mango and not a lot of places have them for obvious reasons.....but I can always satisfy my craving here! Lots of varieties of ice cream and popsicles. Probably a lot of other good stuff too....I just don't know about them! I do wish they have a menu with more details on them.....and seeing some prices really wouldn't hurt either, ha. This place is too cute and amazingly authentic. I came here with my family as we had gone out to spend some quality time shopping and eating. We came here after the mall to try it out and we were so pleased! The ladies working there are so sweet and patient. I was able to try the ice cream flavors if I wanted too but just picked some that sounded good to me. We ended up getting an esquito, ice cream, pudding, and coconut chunks. It was all great and a really good price. The decor in there is loud but so cute and fitting for the place. I loved seeing that other locals were there with family enjoying the spot. Overall it has such a good atmosphere and brought a lot of emotion to me. I definitely think you should support this spot and try some authentic Mexican treats they serve. What a cool place... pun intended. Fellow Yelper Paul took me here. It can best described as a Mexican Baskin Robbins except instead of 31 flavors they have more like 62. It is located in Hoover across Lorna Rd from Best Buy. It's a little hard to find since they don't have a very large sign out front but once you find it, you won't forget the bright paint outside. There is ample room inside with bright colors and lighting. Their paintings and decorations remind me of a kid's fun playroom. There are traditional large coolers that contain a myriad of popsicles. But what makes this place unique is that in addition to their large selection (think Steel City Pops) of ice cream flavors, they also have popsicles like chocolate banana and guava! Oh they also have shaved ice (think Bahama Bucks) and banana splits. The picture of chocolate covered banana split on the wall was really enticing. If you're not in the mood for anything cold, you can just get a traditional Mexican soda and order some nachos or fresh cooked churros. Paul tried the shaved ice with tamarind. It wasn't my cup of tea. I love tamarind as a spice in cooking but it was a little too strong for me as a flavor in shaved ice. They also added chille to it so it had a really good kick. I wasn't as adventurous and just tried their guava popsice. It was surprisingly good... seeds and all! If you're the adventurous type, this is the place for you. Love this place! They offer a wide variety of unique sweets and snacks. The popsicle options are amazing. One freezer is filled with popsicles that are made with cream and another has popsicles made with water. Each freezer had about a dozen different flavors. Some of the more unique flavors are the pine nut popsicle and the raisin popsicle. All of the popsicles are made on site. I tried the lime popsicle with chili sauce in the center. It was the most unusual combination of flavors that I have ever tasted! The lime was super tangy and the chili had a mild spice to it. It caused me to make some crazy faces. I was on the fence on whether I liked it or not, but by the end I couldn't get enough. It was great, and I'm ready to explore other flavors. La Sabrosita is rooted in it's Mexican heritage. Some of the traditional Mexican desserts include Churros Rellenos (fried dough rolled in sugar and cinnamon), Diablitoes (shaved ice with tamarino sauce) and Mangonada (fresh mango with chili seasoning). It's a bit overwhelming when you walk in. The menu board has all types of flavors and items,but you have to go in knowing exactly what you want. The popsicles are delicious and they have them categorized by creamy textures or as a water ice. We did try their mango and strawberry sorbets. My gosh, they were delicious. We also ordered fresas con cream which is strawberries in a sweet cream, but they were out. I wish that they would give some descriptions as to what their menu items are. I'm Hispanic, but their menu is geared towards the Mexican palate and you pretty much have to know exactly what you're ordering otherwise you end up asking the person behind the counter what each item is. It would also help if they had items prices so that you don't get sticker shock when you go to pay. read more
