This particular location of Bruster's sits in a calmer area of Hoover, sitting nicely away from the noise of downtown. The employees, while busy at the time of my visit, were incredibly friendly and got my order in and out to me before I even had to sit down. The ice cream I got was cold, but not hard and so it was easily edible with the bit-flimsy plastic spoon Bruster's is known for sometimes. There isn't a lot of seating at this location (nothing indoors by the way), so expect to sit in your vehicle if you come during extremely hot days or very busy times. It is nit always easy to find open businesses. We tried another place and although it's website said open, that turned out to be false I called ahead this time and found out this ice cream shop was open, so we stopped over! Let me first say I love the ice cream, however, there seems to be an issue with the freezer. The ice cream is almost runny. I came while the weather was hot and I ordered a waffle cone with 3 scoops of my favorite flavor. They had to put it in a cup. I thought it might be just the hot weather. So, today I came again. Nothing much to say about this awesome ice cream place. Located right off 31 on corner of 31 and Vestavia Pkwy, this Bruster's Ice Cream has been there a few years now and still going strong. Sandwiched between Hollywood Pools & Spas and Milo's, this Bruster's doesn't have a very large fingerprint. There are 3 outdoor metal tables with umbrellas. A convenient drive-thru and walk up window serve as the bulk of their business but they do have a "party" room next door. They are your typical ice cream shop with a myriad of flavors from Cake Batter all the way to Chocolate Raspberry Truffle. I'm not sure if they have 31 different flavors, but they have enough to choose from. The mainly high school student employees there are always very nice and fast. Like any smart business, they also have a rewards loyalty program and an app! Now that's being progressive and trendy. Today was a special Customer Appreciation Day and anyone who arrives donned in their Pajamas will get a free waffle cone of your choice. So we threw on our PJs after dinner and made our way to Bruster's. Sarah got Sea Salt Caramel; Rachel got the trusty Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough; Tammy Chocolate Raspberry Truffle and I tried Birthday Cake. My waffle cone was delicious and crunchy. The Birthday Cake ice cream was rich and tasted... well like a Birthday Cake. Of course I also tasted everyone else's ice cream and my favorite would have to be the Truffle. Bruster's is my go-to for ice cream in the area! There are so many flavors to choose from and they're all really, really good. You can definitely tell that this is real ice cream and not something that has a clever name to distract from the fact that it's made with non-dairy product like other restaurants in the area. I love anything in a waffle cone, the kid's dino sundae (can't beat the cookie that comes with it) or if I'm really feeling like a hog, I order the banana split. I absolutely love everything I've ever tried at Bruster's. The best part is that they are both flavors and products galore! Makes it super hard to choose just one thing you want. Their blasts and freezes are delicious too and perfect for the summer. My favorite drink here is the Sprite freeze. My only wish would be for them to have indoor seating. We stopped nearby on a whim to eat dinner as we were returning home from our family vacation. Many of our friends had given rave reviews of this ice cream but I never understood its appeal until now. Close your eyes (unless you are driving...but no one reads on their phones and drives right?!? ). Now think back to the days when you were a kid and you would go to the local ice cream shop or to a summer BBQ where someone had made homemade ice cream. That creamy, rich and smooth ice cream that would drip off the cone making sweet runways run down your arm, then drop down to collect on the leg of your shorts. Now, multiply that by 100...yes, it's that good! I had the strawberry waffle cone. (It is such a large portion that my kids thought I had ordered a double scoop!) The cones are made at the store and have a nice flavor of vanilla. Perfect pairing with any of their multitude of flavors...think beyond strawberry, chocolate or vanilla! The staff there was more than accommodating. My two boys wanted chocolate shakes (which are huge for two kids) so we ordered a regular and asked if they would split the shake between two cups to help minimize the sugar rush that would ensue later in the evening. They were more than happy to do so! Oh and enjoy the samples...there will surly be one that will catch your eye! My order is always the same yet, they always seem to get it wrong. I'm starting to believe they are just incompetent. What seems simple to me must be a very difficult task. I always order a sundae with buttered pecan ice cream, pineapple topping, very light on the topping with no whip or nuts but I do want the cherry. They usually ask if I still want the hot fudge, which at no point did I ask for. Tonight I ordered my usual and like always, they couldn't get it right. My sundae had way too much topping so, I asked the young lady if she could remake it. The young lady then took a deep breath, rolled her eyes and walked over to another young lady. They passed words and then this young lady looked back at me and rolled her eyes as well while proceeding to make another sundae. I watched her in disbelief as she made it exactly the same way. I'm shocked I've never done a review on Bruster's. I've been a customer since they opened their doors in Vestavia. It is a revolving door of high school students some nice some not but not so bad to the point I need a manager. They can be inconsistent with the pretzel when ordering a banana split and I always want my pretzel. Last night I order a banana split for delivery. It was delivered promptly. I got a scoop of strawberry ice cream and 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream. And then it was made its regular way with pineapples, strawberries, and chocolate syrup and it was delicious. But no pretzel. The only other thing I would complain about that happens way too frequently is when I order my hot fudge brownie sundae with strawberry ice cream they always accidentally give me just a plain hot fudge sundae. The first couple of times I was understanding but between that and asking them to put a lid on my sundaes, they never follow those directions. But I'll continue to go here and it's nice having an ice cream shop in Vestavia. Because I'm a year-round ice cream eater. read more

My family and friends made a visit to Brusters ice cream tonight where we went to the walk up window OUTSIDE and as we walked up the employee said she would not serve us unless we were wearing a mask OUTSIDE. Which drive through customers who are the same distance away as the walk up window didn't have to wear a mask but we complied and ordered our ice cream and we didnt want to eat it in the car, so we decided to stand in the patio at the location, the employee then stuck her head out the window and stated that we can not stay on their patio OUTSIDE and eat our ice cream if you do I will have to call my manager....We just left a very popular pizza restaurant where their were 100 people inside not wearing mask, in the same county. read more
