Winco was new to me and while not related to WinDixie it has a range of basic and affordable house brands as well as name brands. with a good produce section. I'm not sure about the meet dept but it looked clean, well organized and stocked. I was there for bread and eggs and left with two heavy and tightly packed bags of food for under $50. I won't be hitting the HEB at dawn/ 7AM anymore to beat the crowds, I'll do Winco once a month when I wake up early at 4AM and can get there from Plano with zero traffic and red lights. They have better prices on a lot of things than Walmart and certainly than Kroger. If your grocery bill is exploding the last year or two try shopping here at least once a month. Best part was the checker said they are an employee owned company which is a huge plus to me over over these chains that are gouging people over profits on food and staples while not giving any benefits because they mostly staff with part timers. It has been years since I've shopped at one. The only reason I ended up here is because I was in the area for lunch and I try to do my best to be intentional about my grocery shopping by staying away from Kroger as much as possible because of their poor quality and lack of standards (I've come across too many rotten foods and I have seen numerous items on their shelves past the expiration dates- meats and eggs included). I will pay more to stay away from Kroger if I can. Well what a big mistake that was yesterday! En route to lunch, I noticed Albertsons and decided to come back around to it after lunch. Several of the shelves are empty. Several of the refrigerated sections are empty with stale water in them and signs that say "do not open". The place has a horrible smell to it and the quality of their produce was horrendous. My grocery shopping experience was a let down and I left out of there completely disgusted. I should have known better being that the parking lot was mostly empty on a Saturday afternoon. To make matters worse, I had too much water at lunch and had to use the restroom before I hit the road. OMG! This was the most disgustingly filthy public bathroom I've seen in a very long time. Filthy sink, filthy stool and filthy floors. The board of health needs to go look into this place. BEWARE: make sure you always check your food / snacks from bulk section I bought some of the watermelon chili candies today, ate a couple at home then looked at one of them out of pure randomness and noticed something moving...it was a maggot I never spit out something so fast in my life Was told on the phone there's no way maggots could be in these candies... Went to the store and literally had to show them the whole bucket had more maggots... "best they could do" was refund my $5... Obviously stuff happens but this was one of the grossest experiences in d ever encountered and will be reporting to Texas HHS
