I woke up hungry in the middle of the night. So I looked up 24 hr grocery and found this Winco in Carrollton. Good thing as Kroger and Walmart has closed all of theirs in Plano. Winco was new to me and while not related to WinDixie it has a range of basic and affordable house brands as well as name brands. with a good produce section. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm not sure about the meet dept but it looked clean, well organized and stocked.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was there for bread and eggs and left with two heavy and tightly packed bags of food for under $50. I won't be hitting the HEB at dawn/ 7AM anymore to beat the crowds, I'll do Winco once a month when I wake up early at 4AM and can get there from Plano with zero traffic and red lights. They have better prices on a lot of things than Walmart and certainly than Kroger. If your grocery bill is exploding the last year or two try shopping here at least once a month. Best part was the checker said they are an employee owned company which is a huge plus to me over over these chains that are gouging people over profits on food and staples while not giving any benefits because they mostly staff with part timers. We came here to pick up a few essentials for our AirBnB while in town. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The store is well laid out with a great selection of items. The high ceilings also give it a feeling that it is a larger space than it really is.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm sure when this location gets crowded, that's a great feature. While I can't compare them to other super markets, prices here were fair. Nothing felt overly priced and, honestly, a lot of items felt very reasonably priced. But I will say that I found the product & the fruit to be a bit underwhelming. The quality really didn't look like the best. They will cut you off, bump in to you, and just flat out ignore you (all of which happened while I was I the location for about 20 minutes).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely wish that wasn't the case. But that's more of a reflection of the customers than the store itself. The checkout staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We weren't aware that WinCo locations don't allow credit cards. I love a good grocery store adventure--especially when it's one I've never been to before. Some people sightsee on vacation; I browse supermarket aisles. One of my all-time favorites is Grocery Outlet, the holy grail of discount groceries packed with hidden high-end gems. Alas, there is no Grocery Outlet in Texas (cue dramatic music). But when I saw photos of this place on Yelp, it kind of gave off Grocery Outlet vibes. So, naturally, we made a detour. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First impression? This place is HUGE. Great rates for your grocery needs! The only thing is they do NOT accept credit cards! I found out the hard way once after scanning everything at self checkout - and tried to use my company card and they said no credit allowed. So keep that in mind. I love their pre packaged meal area though, such good options and perfect portions for when you don't have the time to cook an entire meal. Also really love that their produce is extremely fresh. You know how sometimes you see like fruit flies or mixed veggies with the fruits and it just looks unkept? I've never experienced it here. I have always been grateful for and loved shopping at WinCo. Since the Dallas location first opened, it has been one of my favorite grocery stores. The fruits and vegetables are fresh, the prices are reasonable, and I have always had positive experiences there. However, today I had a very upsetting experience with one employee. While I was checking out, my card would not process properly. I politely asked the employee for help. Instead of listening to what I was saying, she immediately said, "Do not move the items." My husband and I smiled and explained that we had not touched or moved any items. However, she repeated the same statement again. When the payment machine failed a second time, I asked for assistance once more. Again, without listening to me or my husband, she simply repeated, "Do not move the items." My husband calmly explained that we had not moved anything, but she continued repeating the same phrase over and over without acknowledging what we were saying. At that point, I became frustrated and said that security footage could easily confirm whether we had touched or moved any items. What upset me the most was not the machine problem itself. Machines can malfunction. What hurt was feeling ignored and dismissed as a customer. Instead of listening to our explanation, she repeatedly spoke over us and never seemed interested in hearing our side. Afterward, I overheard her telling another employee that a customer had become angry with her. That was painful to hear because I felt that our concerns were never heard in the first place. I am Asian, and while I do not know what was in her mind, the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable, disrespected, and unwelcome. I chose not to say anything at the time because I did not want my entire day to become even more upsetting. Even now, my hands are shaking and my heart is still racing when I think about what happened. This experience does not reflect all of the employees I have met over the years. Thai place has the best deals. I love coming here and getting the best prices on everything and not losing quality. You can buy so many things in bulk as well. Fresh bread a great deli with roasted chicken, fried chicken. The variety of cheese and meat is fabulous. They also have some household things and always have some seasonally rows to linger through. I will never shop at this location again. Two of the people I spoke to today were incredibly rude and one of them was a manager. Two lanes for checking people out and both were full to the isles. The self checkout was completely empty which I prefer to use anyway and I was told I couldn't use it because I had about 25 items instead of less than 15. The woman working that area was incredibly rude and tried to push me out of the way to cancel the order I had already started scanning. The manager that came over was of no help despite having someone else come up to help scanning out customers. That still meant it took 15 mins to finish getting through the lines. It's bad enough they only take debit cards which is absolutely ridiculous anyway but this was it for me. Horrible experience and will happily take my money elsewhere. This is not my regular grocery store but I do like stopping in here from time to time. Their prices are comparable and oftentimes better on many staples then the well known chains. I appreciate their bulk foods section where you can purchase pasta, cheeses, flour, nuts, spices etc by weight. That is great for buying just enough of what you need for that recipe without having to purchase a whole container. Their selection of Asian and Mexican foods is also better than most larger chains and you can find some interesting foods to try. The store is huge and well laid out. Plenty of space with wide aisles and well lit. At least until....you hit the bottleneck. Checkout is ridiculous. 16 wide checkout aisles take up most of the space towards the door. But only one aisle is ever manned. So all other shoppers must check themselves out, regardless of how full the cart all must be corralled into 6 self checkout stations that are so close together it's impossible for carts not to bump into each other especially if a shopper has kids along. Half of the 6 self check out registers are debit card only, no credit cards are accepted here. The registers always seem to get an error message for whatever reason, say your coat touched the scale while you try to scan and bag your groceries in the cramped space. Now you have to wait your turn for the single attendant to reset your register. And everyone is having an issue. I understand the argument that self checkout someone saves the company money. But I will say that I limit what I buy here by a lot because of their checkout and I certainly think it's worth the few extra dollars to shop elsewhere to not have to go through this frustrating checkout. read more

First time shopping in a WinCo, I wasn't sure what to expect. I found it to be reminiscent of Costco, with tall shelves containing open boxes of items. This is definitely a no-frills kind of place. Zero friendliness from employees. The positive aspect: low prices on produce. Now, there wasn't an abundance of choices, but I did like how the prices were clearly marked with a comparison of other store's prices. Great quality, too. I had some baking items on my shopping list and added those into my cart. Now mind you, I normally don't purchase a lot of items in the baking section. When I do per my husband's request, he inevitably is complaining about the calories as he shoves the homemade desserts into his pie-hole. Any hoo, a few days after the purchase, I did some price comparison and realized that even Kroger was cheaper than WinCo! Will I return? This store is a one stop convenience. When I entered the store it had the Sam's club feel and as I continued I thought Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. They also have the lowest price of Bang Energy drink in the Metroplex. The store is always clean and organize even though it's usually busy in here. They even have cat, dog, critter and bird food in bulk. I couldn't believe a 50 ib bag of dog food was only $20. I'm able to find all the food items I need just like at Walmart. I would say that 99% of the time Winco is cheaper than Walmart and Target. So far I've only found one food item at Walmart that is cheaper than Winco. Winco beats Target's prices by a few cents. For example, Campbell's chunky soup is $1.79 at Target and $1.78 at Winco. This place only takes debit card or cash. read more

Let me start by notifying you that if you normally skateboard to go buy your groceries WinCo does not want you to do that here. They have a sign posted out front that says so. WinCo is open 24 hours so they are convenient to absolutely any schedule. And the prices are really low on plenty of items. It's a nice touch that gluten free items have shelf labels, big, easy to spot. The employees here don't seem to offer the upbeat, friendly customer service that you get at Market Street and Whole Foods but I can handle it. Just so you know after you pay for your items no one will be standing at the end of the check out lane waiting to hand you your items. No, you actually go bag those up yourself and off you go. One last thing to keep in mind with WinCo is that they accept debit cards and cash but credit cards get no love in this place. read more

Winco is kind of like a miniature version of Sam's or costco without a needing a membership because they do have some things in bulk such as like a 10 pound ground beef haha. It is also cheap like walmart but is very clean and everyone is friendly and helpful! One tip to rememeber is that they only accept debt or cash and NO credit cards! The produce can be pretty fresh and cheap! Sometimes I find 99 cents a pound of cherries! Super sweet and yummy! They have weekly ads that they send out into the mail and so check those! I am super glad they opened up a winco. It is really nice to have another great grocery store to come to. They also have a bunch of bins filled with many things like chocolate, protien powder, granola, coffee, tea etc. So you can buy in bulk or little depending on your needs! Many a times my friends and I have traveled to the other Winco locations late at night because it's open 24/7 and the prices are hard to beat! Meat Quality has become inconsistent and finally all cuts are a waste of money. Purchased Beef Chuck tender steaks and they looked very good to the eye but I was sure fooled. Never had a piece of meat cooked to perfection and yet be tougher than leather. The Winco meat prior to Covid was good value, not the best but priced accordingly and unfortunately that is no longer the case. At this point they might as well get rid of the meat department unless they plan on making some major adjustments. Store is clean and organized and produce is good or better than most grocery store chains as its a CA based chain. The sourdough bread is amazing and you won't be disappointed, but it would be nice if they get the meat quality back prior to Covid. read more
