I wanted to love this place. Fantastic selection of beers. Probably the best Cuban sandwich I have ever eaten (and big enough to share). My only complaint is that the service was piss poor. We almost left because no one seemed to want to take our order. The 2 girls were busting their butts while the guy with the handlebar mustache wouldn't make eye contact with us, much less grab us a couple of beers. We then moved to a table after several people left, but still no one would come to take our beer orders. Great selection of both local and Belgian beers. It's a cool place in the heart of Old Sam Juan. Has excellent ventilation and you're able to sit by open doors, giving you that outdoor dining feel. The drinks are currently served in disposable cups (for Covid Safety). Staff is accommodating and quick. The Perla Punch and Tequila Sour beer are both refreshing and very much necessary in the summer heat! read more

I love this place. I visit every time I'm in Old San Juan. Tons of craft beer selections as well as a full liquor bar. You can't go wrong with the either. They do have live music on most weekends. But if you're just coming in on a hot day to have a cold beer if you can't go wrong here. Also the food selections not bad. I thoroughly enjoyed the sliders. The staff is is all right. Sometimes they can seem a little distracted. But overall the experience is fun and the vibe is just fantastic. You'll find a lot of locals mixed in with the few tourists that venture out away from the port. The craft beer selection is fantastic. You find not only local brews but some of your favorites shipped in from the 48 contiguous. My favorite bar in Old San Juan. They had a solid selection of quality beers on tap from every genre/style, as well as an extensive set of other offerings in cans and bottles (you could find browns, belgians, IPAs, sours, ...). Looking for hard alcohol? Well your in luck. They had a bunch of scotches, bourbons, and other hard stuff. I was stoked to find that they had Buffalo Trace bourbon there; one of my favorites. Didn't try their food, so I can't speak to that. As for the atmosphere and decor of the bar, I thought it was great, especially with the dim lighting and the open windows/doors on two sides of the place. So, this place is awesome. Came into port on a cruise ship - so only had 7-8 hours to check out the beautiful city. Much to my wife's chagrin, I wanted to check out local craft beers. Yelp pointed me here, and after our visit - even she agreed it was time well spent. Some really cool local beers, tons of craft options, and nothing from the big breweries. I internally smiled when I asked the bartender for a Carib (Miller light of the Caribbean) and he politely scoffed - only craft beer sir. The decor is eccentric and awesome. So. Much. Character. This became one of our go to place while staying in OSJ! They have tons of craft beers on draft, in bottles, and in cans! I was able to try plenty of locally brewed beers and really enjoyed the different Ocean lab beers. La Taberna is a laid back environment. They had a small menu with some great food options. I wasn't sure for a moment if this wasn't Portland Maine...or Bushwick...., except it's in a middle of a tropical ancient city and the breeze goes right through the shutters only arched windows. If you are looking for an ambiance and a second to none craft beer experience- you have hit the jackpot. We said we wanted to see what Puerto Rican Beer was like, and my friend (who lives in Puerto Rico) immediately suggested this place and that it's one of his favorite bars to visit when he's around, which should say something right of the bat We tried a few of the beers, but I think the blood orange beer was my favorite by far. The beers are obviously gonna be more expensive than the non-craft beers in the bars nearby that often have specials on the common beers, but in my opinion it's worth it. There were so many beers on tap, maybe 40, plus hundreds of bottles from which to choose. Wepa!! Of course I would find in a hole in the wall beer bar in Old San Juan. Thank you Yelp for getting this on my radar. Tucked into a small corner Spanish Colonial storefront, this gem of old San Juan brings beer lovers, hipsters and foodies together in an unpretentious and relaxed environment. I ducked in to get out of a spontaneous rain shower and was more than happy to stay for a couple of beers. They have an extensive selection of local and imported craft beers from all over in a large binder behind the bar. Ask for it, it's worth the peruse. La Taberna also has a full bar with great selection of rums and whiskeys if that is more your speed. I wish I had more room in my stomach to try some of their food. I saw a couple demolish some of the fish tacos and they looked amazing while they lasted. Awesome beer selection (140+ beers), incredibly friendly owner and staff (don't have the beer I ordered... hold on... be right back.... down the road and got a new case, put on ice, 20 minutes later in my hands... all while enjoying a different selection prior). And these are the cheapest prices I have ever seen anywhere! $3.75 for a premium microbrew?!? Can't find that anywhere! Came for the craft beer, left a happy hipster thanks to the vibe and decor. The spirits list is super solid, but I was most interested in drinking local brews. I tried a phenomenal local, seasonal sweet potato beer and loved it so much I returned a few days later for the same. I love the open air patio in the back with all the graffiti on the walls--super cool. While I can't attest to the food because I didn't try it, the beer list is awesome--and not just for Puerto Rico. As a Californian, i was stoked on both the draft and bottle selection. Service slacks a bit on busier nights, but that's to be expected. Bartenders are willing to let you try samples of drafts if you're in between a few beers. Was bummed they were out of the one sour on draft, but was a happy customer nonetheless. Great place! Let me start of by saying, yes I am a "beer snob" and I only really like craft beers. With that said , this place is heaven for someone like me. They have probably over 30 beers on tap and about 40 bottled beers. A menu that was very descriptive and lengthy which described the different types of beers. Service was amazing. Milton was one of the bartenders and he was truly my favorite bartender. He gave me tons of samples to Help me try something different. Located in a historic area in San Juan PR, this place makes you experience the real deal and a beautiful side of their culture. It's popular for local crowd and tourists, and it's famous for their 100 and some brewed beers! All very unique and unbranded but with a variety to please everybody! I thought Australians were some of the most beer-literate people in the world, but these Puerto Ricans put us to shame! They have Belgian, Czech, British, German, African, American, Tibetan and Martian beers all on tap or neatly listed in a gigantic folder of alco-biblical proportions! Oh, and the burger - my god, so much love was put into that thing. I told my wife that I'm purchasing a sleeping bag and bunkering down for the next month beneath the bar. I gave this hole in the wall of a tavern a 5! Why? The only beer you can find in OSJ is usually Medalla, yes it's good but you get tired of it quickly too. But here they have all your favorites that we are used to on the mainland. But this is a very cool bar though, but it also has some serious con's. Cool: 1. Hipster Bartenders all have a minimum of 3 inch or longer beards. 2. Great selection of draft beers and micro-brews in OSJ 3. ATMOSPHERE!!!! 4. Always packed on the weekends. Don't expect good service. My squad camped near the draft taps and waived money to get attention. After the first tip I dropped our service went from terrible to AMAZING! 5. Food it's pretty good, but I feel ours was made with much more love. Cons: 1. The bathrooms are the WORST!!! It's so bad it makes you remember this place forever and remember only the good things about it. I'd rather use a 7/11 Big Gulp Cup. Wow, so if you wanted to find awesome craft beer amongst the Macro Medalla and Magna world that is PR then you've found the spot. Not only did I have some epic Pat brews but a brilliant selection of stateside craft breweries. I was blown away by the exotic Stone beers and rare terrapin finds. I con only describe the selections as vast and fun for any craft lover. The food was amazing to go along with it, any expectations of overly salted and soggy beer fare were destroyed when the Empanadillas with Guava IPA sauce were set in front of me. Are you sure this is what they're supposed to serve? Then throw in beer fries(chips) and some of the best fish tacos I've had, ever. The bartender told me they were amazing and I skoffed! The peppery breading with flaky tasty tilapia and cool garnish paired perfectly with a slightly fruity IPA from terrapin. I'll be back every time I am in town! read more
