A great little dive bar on the most popping street in Old San Juan. They have a long list of draft beers so anyone who wants to partake can find something to their liking. Admittedly stopped in mostly to escape a typical Puerto Rican downpour but was able to find bar seating immediately and had great service. Should note this is a location that has open windows and doors all day, no air conditioning to speak of. La Taberna Lupulo in San Sebastian Street is the perfect spot for Pitorro shots. They have coco, piña, passion fruit, mango and tamarindo. The coco pitorro was so smooth you can't taste the rum but will feel it later. Pitorro is Puerto Rican moonshine infused with fruits to mellow the flavors. Really strong alcohol if you get the right kind. Bartenders let you try it. They bring you all the bottles. Nice bar to enjoy drinks and chat with the locals in a more relaxed atmosphere away from the more vibrant high energy of the neighboring bars playing reggaton. We were glad to stumbled upon this bar. I'm not a big beer guy. But, a few years ago at número uno they had this beer con parcha (passion fruit) that I really enjoyed. So, we are walking around old San Juan and I'm like homie I need the first drink we can find! Enter La taberna lúpulo. First, dude servicing the bar was extra cool. Just friendly and engaged and didn't act like we just business, but friendly. I wasn't even planning on drinking beer. But my homie was like what do you recommend and he poured a sample of some blonde ale and... wheat ale con parcha!! I was like o snap let me have a glass of that. Fire!! I wouldn't call it sweet, but it has that hint. More importantly it was fresh and not funky. I personally find tap beer is usually not fresh tasting and tend to prefer bottles or cans when I drink beer. But that was not a problem here. Tasted brand new and delicious. The location is unbeatable, in the heart of old San Juan. The decor was fun and eclectic. I'm a fan of the elephant personally due to my old school ties with elephant size productions. Oh and it was super inexpensive. It was like $4-$5 a beer iirc. Which is crazy for a trendy neighborhood like this (La factoría around the corner). Great job to the staff at Lúpulo. We came by here for a drink before dinner. It's a local, dive bar with a large selection of beer on tap. There's plenty of local options to choose from where you can get a flight to try multiple. I ordered the La Patria Colada ($9.99) and got the Queso Frito ($7.99) to snack on. Their take on the pina colada was delicious --creamy, yet refreshing. I had a great experience here. The staff was super nice. I asked for two rum cocktails of their choice and both times the cocktails were fire. Usually I don't expect much from bar food, but all the food was great. Queso Frito was my favorite. My spouse got fried chicken sandwich and it was great. Sick little spot in Viejo San Juan! When we went, we ordered different beer flights because they had a plethora of choices for different kinds of beers to choose from. I didn't end up getting a flight (I got the Patria Light, which was pretty good for me as a person who doesn't drink beer like that) but my friend, a true beer connoisseur, indulged in a flight and was able to try different beers. Paola was a rude bartender My wife and I came here for a drink on Thursday July 24th, 2025 at approximately 2:10pm. I'm not sure why Paola chose to serve the group of four who ordered after us before serving our drinks. I'm not sure why, after my wife asked for a straw, the young woman behind the bar chose to offer a fork and knife to the woman on the other side of us, and help them before bringing the straw. We only ordered a beer, an Aperol Spritz, and then a straw for the Aperol Spritz. It took about 10 minutes to get beer, another seven minutes to get the Aperol Spritz, and another five minutes to get the straw. We had to repeatedly ask the other bartenders for the Aperol Spritz and the straw. We felt like Paola did not want to serve us for some reason. It took a total of approximately 22 minutes to get our two drinks and a straw. It was not busy, there were empty bar stools and tables. read more

After spending the night out in old San Juan we decided to make this our last stop, grab one more drink and snack for the road. To my surprise they had a huge selection of whiskey and bourbon (for the island)! In an area known for rum, you might not realize how rare this is - even more shocking was finding an allocated bottle of bourbon. Our bartender gave us a very generous pour since the bottle was done after that. She and everyone else working behind the bar were very nice. I ordered fries to go and although they weren't anything special and took a while, they hit the spot and were just what we needed for the Uber ride home. Nothing beats good beer and La Taberna Lúpulo is the best spot to find good beer. They have a nice selection on draft, as well as bottled and canned. You'll find a variety of craft brews, local and imported. I recommend checking out the local ones. Several local breweries are very small and don't have taprooms and/or are located outside of San Juan, so it's nice that you can find many of those beers here. I decided to go with a Hazy IPA from BoxLab Brewing. They are based in Aguadilla (west) and have a taproom (Beer Box). I followed it up with their Pale Ale. Now I want to visit the Beer Box to try more. My wife tried one from Dragonstone Abbey (Rio Grande) that was made with guanabaná (soursop). Get past the funky aroma and it was tasty. In addition to beers, they also serve food starting at 11am. We stopped here with some friends for lunch on a Sunday around noonish. For the kids we ordered the Bigote Chicken Sandwich. It's a fried chicken sandwich that comes with slaw and pickles, but we got it plain for the kids. They loved it. I got a bite in and it was nice and juicy (they use thigh meat instead of breast meat). For the adults we ordered the Tripleta Burger Sliders. One order has 4 sliders. We each took one. We also went with buffalo chicken wings and their fresh cut fries. All were hits, but the sliders and fries really stood out. Note that fries are separate, they are not included with the sandwiches or burgers. They are worth getting. Service was slow at first but picked up. Keep in mind that the servers are also the bartenders, or at least they were that day. Paola and Mariano did a good job. They were friendly, very knowledgeable, and helpful providing suggestions. It's enough to say that this place is a must stop in Old San Juan. read more

The bar service was horrible, I was literally trying to flag down bar staff and it appeared that they were intentionally trying to not make eye contact. Was walking down the street in Old San Juan when I stumbled upon this place. It caught mine and my boyfriends eyes and we decided to pop in. Grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered some drinks. My boyfriend got some beer and I got a beer flight. There is a ton of beers to choose from. They provide you with chalk for your flight board and you wrote the numbers of the beers you want.
