I've been coming to L.A. Tailor shop for over 5 years now. They do excellent alterations in reasonable time for reasonable cost. There are some things they won't do, however, like fix holes in garments. My only beef with them is that you never know if they'll be open or closed when you go. I thrifted these trench coats which still had the shoulder pads on them so I wanted to get them removed. Found this shop via Yelp and called to see if they were available to do it for me. Owner said he was booked till the next year but since it was only 2 coats he was willing to make an exception. He told us to bring it in the next morning at 9 am, which we did and told us it would be done by 11 am. We got a call around 10:30 saying they were done. $20 per coat which was not bad. I explained that I wasn't worried about the price but explained to him that I wanted them cut right... I went to pick them up and tried them on, but didn't pay too much attention to the detail. Angel is an amazing tailor, I am so happy I've found him. I took him a very thick, heavy Superdry peacoat that I've had for months but have been unable to wear because it was much too big in the shoulders and body and looked like it was overwhelming me. I tried to take it to my regular tailor, Best Alterations in Alameda, but unfortunately they were unable to do the work because of how thick the coat was. After calling multiple places, to no avail, I finally remembered LA Tailor and decided to give them a call. Angel told me to bring the coat in, so I walked over there and he helped me right away. His shop is small and quiet, and I believe he is the only one working there, so he was in no rush and took his time fitting the coat to the sizing I needed. He was also very honest, telling me what wouldn't work (and what would be much more expensive to do), and provided multiple options for the tailoring of the coat. The jacket has Superdry embroidery on the front of one shoulder and the back of another, and I was hoping to have had the shoulders taken in; he told me he would've had to have cut into the areas with embroidery, that he also would've had to have adjusted the epaulets on the shoulders in a somewhat awkward manner, and that the better (and equally attractive) option was to insert subtle shoulder pads to add structure and help me fill up the coat, and he took in the coat from under the arms and from the sides to make it more fitted. After a week of anticipation, I picked up the coat today and it's wonderful. The work is seamless and beyond professional, and he made sure that it fit well and looked good. For $65 the work was well worth the price, and I'll definitely be returning to him. Angel is worth every star in this 5 star rating! Oh, be mindful, it's cash only! read more

On a bit of a whim, I took a pair of jean shorts here to have the waist taken in. The job was done flawlessly on the back middle (which most places won't do because of the belt loop?) but it's very comfortable, fits great, and you can't even tell it was altered. Took a pair of thrifted baggy jeans in this week for several adjustments and again, they did a wonderful job! I had the front buttons replaced with a zipper, the pants hemmed, and the legs tapered. I went in not really knowing how to make the pants fit better, and Angel knew exactly what I was going for with fairly little explanation. They were ready the NEXT day as well. Can't speak for dresses/blouses/ jackets etc., but I have no doubt they would do a good job. Definitely your jeans are in good hands here. read more

I got great counsel from the Latino gentleman who helped me here. Shortening some shirts, he told me that I should not shorten them as much as I thought because then they'd be too short. He was right! He also hemmed some pants, jeans and slacks, and did a very nice job on everything, even color matching the stitching and re-hemming the slacks (taking out the hem and redoing it). But a dry-cleaner's tailor told me it would be $28 to repair because need to replace the entire zipper. Heck, the jacket cost only $25 brand-new. You won't find the shop to be smelly, littered with pieces of garments on the floor, dusty and dirty, especially, in the changing room. 3. The cost is reasonable and comparable. 4. The owner is a seasoned tailor. He knows what he's talking about. He worked on several suits, pants, blazers, etc of mine. 5. He'll give you his professional and honest assessment if the work is worth it or not. For example, he recommended I should just buy a new jacket with the same amount of money I would pay him. Others would just take my money, but Angel (the owner) will give an honest and professional opinion if you ask him. 6. He does a good quality work. 7. I decided to come here after seeing the awesome Yelp reviews, and was not disappointed! The place is small, but easy to find in the building (walk straight after entering the front door, and his shop on the left hand side). After a previous poor hemming job, my pant suit needed one pant leg re-hemmed after it came loose. Pant hems are usually $10, but since it was once side, I was charged $5. Angel said it would be ready in one week. I paid him $5 (CASH ONLY), and was on my way. Two days later, I received a call from Angel saying my pants were ready (5 days early!). When I went in to pick them up, he said that he reinforced the other pant leg as well! Great customer service :) Highly recommended! This place is without a doubt one of the best Tailors in the east bay. The pricing here is very reasonable when compared to other Tailors I've been to. The owner is a very nice, down to earth man that I had a pleasure of speaking to. My first experience with him I took him a jacket and vest that needed work. I took it to him on a Wednesday night and needed the items for a wedding the following Saturday, he did all the work in 2 days and boy did he do a good job. Very happy with the service here. I needed 2 shoulder patches sewed on my class b uniform ASAP. Called around to a few places, and they all said I would have to make an appointment at a later date and quoted me $15 a patch. I called this place and told them I needed it done by the following day and they told me to bring it in and they'll make it work for $5 a patch. Ended up bringing it in to them 10 mins later and the guy was definitely experienced and knew exactly what he was doing because he knew all the increments to center the patches at. He even went through the extra effort to resew the top button that I told him was a little too tight, but not to worry about. He was done with the shirt in 2 hours ready for me to pick it up. read more
