I found Mari's Alterations through Yelp because of the many positive reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was not positive so that was when I started looking into the 1 and 2 star reviews on Yelp and Google. They're all saying the same thing about Maria being disorganized and unreliable, which was exactly my experience. And based on reading the negative feedback, I noticed this lady tends to deflect blame. Never her fault. Always something else. I brought in two pairs of jeans for hemming and a wool coat that needed a lining added. Price was affordable. She gave me a week timeline to pick up. I originally planned to pick everything up on Saturday, but I called the next day (Sunday) and asked if I could pick up a day early on Friday instead. She said yes. Thursday came and I called them just to remind them as I've had experiences elsewhere in the past where things got forgotten and I didn't want to make a 25 min drive and finding out my stuff isn't ready. Lo and behold, when I called to remind her I'll be picking up the following day, she said Saturday so I reminded her I called her last Sunday to change to friday. She said okay, she's not busy so she can work on it. I showed up Friday at around 11. My stuff wasn't done. Her employees were working on it. At first she mentioned pick up was supposed to be Saturday. I repeated I've made phone calls prior to change to Friday and she said yes. Then she said I came too early. Say what? We never confirmed on a pickup time. Then she asked me to wait additional 40 minutes. And she argued with me, giving me an attitude. I let her know she was unprofessional and disorganized and this was before I read all the negative reviews. It frustrated me because she had the whole week to work on them and she didn't. Will not be taking my business here again. I do not recommend her business. read more

I went to Mari to patch up 2 verrrry sentimental blankets for my boo after 2 other alterations place told me they wouldn't be able to help. I don't know what type of magic Mari has but whatever she did worked! I ordered a dress for my birthday event that was too small and wouldn't zip up. As you can see in the picture there was a huge gap that constricted me from zipping it fully. Mari informed me she could handle it and do it within 2 weeks. I paid 60 dollars for the alternation which seemed pretty reasonable! The staff was lovely and helpful and made me feel comfortable while getting measured! I left my garments ; two pairs of pants to be exact to be hemmed. I sled how fast would they be done as I was leaving for a trip in two days. Mari said will be ready within two days. Two days later I returned; and they couldn't find my order. After about 30 min and them searching under multiple piles of other clothing ; my clothes were found; untouched. Great experience. Small shop on International, and parking can be tricky, other than that I have no complaints. I took a wedding dress in that needed to be hemmed, taken in at the waist and bust area, and the straps tightened a bit. It was also a last minute request, and she accommodated me. Terrible customer service. Dropped off 2 pairs of pants to be hemmed and tapered. She charged me $27 a pair. Advised I had a wedding to go to and needed these back in time. I even paid in advance and was told to come in the morning, no problem. I show up and I have to find my pants in a pile of other clothes. Owner and workers are looking at me like I'm the problem. What a wonderful find! Mrs Sanchez fit and pinned 1) lined silk slacks, 2) silk blouse and 3) silk tank top. Despite me not speaking Spanish, she was so accommodating and made sure I was 100% comfortable before I left the shop. In only 2 weeks, the alterations were complete... and perfect. My experience with Maria and Evelyn was perfect. They fixed my dress which was almost two sizes bigger and made it fit like a glove. They did it quick and efficiently, other stores were quoting me months of time but she did it within a month. I am really grateful for their hard work. To post this I have to go back one year. Last year my daughter lost her son at 37 weeks. This year she had another beautiful boy but we all miss our dear Izzy. This year we took a family vacation to Hawaii and I had t-shirts and onesies made for the grandkids that say "Cousin Crew 2025". Best Tailor in the East Bay!!! Maria the owner reminds me of my grandmother and is so sweet. She mainly speaks spanish but fully understood english and knew exactly what I was asking for.
