I would avoid this tanning salon at all costs!! For your health and safety-- Not only did my right hand land in a puddle of either cleaning solution or it was someone else's bodily fluids it was disgustingly gross. I bought my boyfriend and I a month tanning package, to get a base before going on a cruise. I have medium to dark skin, to start, but being winter wanted a little color. I had tanned several times before tanning in their big bed. The one that when you walk in, it's on the right side with sliding doors. The last time I went, I went home took a shower, and I noticed three blisters on my body, my wrist, my breast and the back of my leg. When the fluid drained and opened up I had third degree burns. Some pictures shown :( I had to be put on a prescription burn cream to prevent infection and help healing. This was a week before my cruise. I was instructed NO pool, hot tubs, or ocean! Great vacation. I cleaned three wounds on vacation. Still treating the one on the back of my leg today. I reached out to the owner in tears-- Not only I'm I suffering with third degree burns, but my vacation was destroyed. All that money spent was a waste! I asked for a refund on my packages, which was around $200.00. Nothing more. He refused and instead he offered me other services the salon has to offer! Like I would ever step foot in that building again. He hide behind his store manager and he could have done right by giving me back what I paid that I never used to the fullest. This salon ruined a $5,000.00 cruise vacation, I had planned for eight months. He should be ashamed of himself! I don't leave reviews or talk bad about businesses, but I would hate for someone to experience what I went through. It was painful and heartbreaking!!! Horrific customer service. Upon entering "owner" demands to see my lotion and because it wasn't in original bottle it if confiscated during my tan because apparently a damaged bed is the result of using non approved lotion (kind of hard to believe, my guess is the bed was old and in need of replacement). Instead of offering me a complimentary small cup of lotion for the inconvenience of this NEW policy I was unaware of, I'm advised than I can purchase a packet for $8. When I acted surprised by this, I was told that I can go somewhere else to tan. I will take my business to the Barlett and Schaumburg locations as they were far superior in their quality of beds and customer service. read more

I usually tan in Carpentersville as it is closest to my work. South Elgin is right by my house, but I can't go here anymore. I don't think the bulbs are ever replaced. The place is dirty, smells bad and the staff seem annoyed when anyone comes in. I asked to tan for 10 minutes in a level 2 bed and the timer shut the bed off at 7 minutes...no point in getting dressed and going back in. Not to mention, every bed seems to have a different on button, maybe it's on the wall, maybe it's on the bed. Just push buttons until something turns on. The bed I was in had a missing electrical plate on the wall with wires hanging out of it. Just go somewhere else. LA Tan should shut this place down. read more

Someone was in the bed I was going to use so she explains to me she could not process both services, even though I pay a monthly membership due to her after work obligations. She did not like my customer service comment so she got upset and would not let me use the services and told me to leave. Followed up by calling her boss and the police to ban me from there. I recently moved to the area and used to go to the LA Tan in Wheaton for spray tans. That location was so nice and clean, so I was shocked at the condition of the the South Elgin location. This place is so filthy. There is brown over spray all over the walls, peeling paint on the ceilings and old dust caked candles and coffee beans in the room. I was the first customer of the day and the garbage was over flowing from the day before. I would not recommend this location as I am certain they are not abiding by cleaning and sanitary requirements based on what I saw. I took a video to show the entire spray tan area but I'm unable to post it here. I did include a few pics. I would go somewhere else, I felt like I needed a shower after just being in this place. read more

I have been through a lot of painful experiences in my life, but the worst physical pain I have ever felt was from the 2nd degree Burn I got on 75% of my body due to the inexperience of one of their employees. When I went in, I told the receptionist that I had only ever done tanning once before, and mentioned this several times. I told her my previous tanning had been just one week before at the geneva location, and I was trying to get a base tan for a trip in Florida I was going on, to prevent severe burning. I told her I burned easily, also something I mentioned several times, and said I had only gone in for 6 minutes at level 1 at the previous location per the recommendation of the girl who helped me in geneva (who was amazing). The south elgin associate proceeded to tell me that I should try a level 2 this time, as it helped to get a base tan faster. So to be clear, I had just told her I burned easily, I was trying to avoid getting burnt, and I had only ever been tanning once on level 1 for for only 6 minutes. She then decided it would be a good idea to recommend not only that I go in for more than twice the amount of time (15 minutes), but that I go in at level 2. I reminded her that i burn easily *for the 4th time* and said I'd prefer to stick with level one, but asked if she was sure I'd be fine at level one. She reassured me and led me to the room and didn't say a word about safety or what to do in the room. Just lead me there and left. Some of the stuff was different from geneva like the music key pad and the fan but the rest was the same. I was in there for about 7 minutes before it started getting really hot, but I thought that was normal. I just felt warm at this point, not burnt. I finished up and about two hours after I got home I became really warm and itchy. I felt like I was running a fever, and by later in that night I was. At this point it was around 6 or 7 in the day so I got up from schoolwork to look in the mirror and I was turning pink. All. Over. My legs, my feet, my entire upper body, my face, my neck. So I called your location and the girl who picked up said a little pink was normal. I wish I would have argued with her. That was the most painful night of my life. Every part of my body felt like it was on fire and simultaneously being stabbed with needles and hot knives. I tried to sleep in every position and was in so much pain I just had to stand and walk around. I couldn't even sit down. This was the absolute worst Burn I've ever had in my life. How do you sleep when it feels like the air and the bed are on fire? It was like this for 4 nights. I went to work the third day of this and my co worker literally said "oh my god what happened to your face?" My skin was radiating heat for over a week and the burn took about 3 weeks to go away and the tan lines didnt fade until over 10 weeks later. I booked an appt with a dermatologist asap but couldnt get in until 5 days with the burn. She said it was a bad case of sun toxicity and i had to get medication for it. I have been busy, and i got burnt worse on vacation just because i tried to get a base tan to prevent it. This experience happened in early March of this year, 2022. Please please please do not go here! I don't want anyone else being in as much pain as I am. I went in for a Brazilian wax and a full leg wax. The wax was very hot and the woman doing it left almost all the hair on my legs but took lots of skin off. I now have burns and blisters covering my legs and bikini area. I asked for a refund and showed the workers my legs and they refused to refund me. The workers were very rude suggesting that the burns were my fault and that there was nothing they could do about it. read more

I can't say enough on how much I dislike this LA Tan. There are so many reasons why it should not be up and running or why they need to have new management there. First, it's dirty. Every time I walk into this facility and into a room with a tanning bed, the beds are always dirty in some way. I either find finger prints on the outside of the bed, on the inside of the bed, or I feel the acrylic before I lay down and it's always grimy. Gross. Second, the "owner" isn't actually the owner. She manages the facility and I have seen her behavior. She's as sweet as pie when it comes to taking your money but low class and rude when it comes to anyone opposing the money she charged to their credit cards. I have seen her yell, argue, and scream at people in person and on the phone. I understand that sometimes the customer isn't always right, but if I have observed this behavior more than once and at different times on different days, she obviously does not know how managing a business is supposed to work. Third, the only reason why I am even giving this facility a star is because two people on the staff are very nice and the facility is big with multiple beds. It has potential. As for the hygiene and the manager, it is the worst LA Tan that I have been to. read more

Usually only leave reviews when service is above and beyond. Employees gave off warm vibes, as they were very respectful and had smiles on their faces the entire time. Also noticed that both the lobby and tanning rooms were very clean. On top of all that, I was able to experience their newest luxury bed that made me feel as if I was tanning in 2030. Please don't waste your money and time here. I have got a massage and body scrub here. Room smelled like rancid oil. Masseuse didn't offer any aromatic therapy and very rough. If applying scrub to feet and hands is what you are expecting for a body scrub then this is the place. Front desk needs your ID to get a massage- not sure why though. read more

Not every tanning salon is comparable, some are so much better than others, and not every L.A. Tan is equal... this is the BEST L.A. Tan in this area by far! Before I tell you about the equipment & services, let me first say that the staff in South Elgin is fantastic! Their beds are highly effective & its clear they have invested in tanning beds & spray tanning equipment, they now have a Versa Pro in addition to the Versa. Above all of these things, the one thing you may not know but should know about L.A. Tan is that they offer all kinds of spa services: from facials & dermaplaning to waxing & eyelash extensions! And, the esthetician Crystal is simply amazing, and she is THE reason you need to discover or rediscover L.A. Tan! I have been to several different eyelash salons in the past and I can honestly say the best looking & lasting set of lashes I've ever had were done by Crystal. I've also done dermaplaning, waxing & custom airbrush with Crystal and I am so happy with the results every time. I highly recommend booking an appointment for a spa service with Crystal, she is friendly and has an easy way about her that makes clients feel very comfortable. Also, the spa services pricing is good, and its comparable or better than other places. If you live in Elgin or South Elgin and didn't know about L.A. Tan spa services, you are def missing out! I called the South Elgin location to cancel my membership because I had moved out of state. The woman I spoke too told me she would handle everything. Unfortunately I was charged and I called again today to resolve the problem and was met with nothing but attitude. Nicole, the woman who answered the phone, belittled me and made me feel ashamed for canceling my membership. She continuously told me I was wrong and basically called me a liar saying I never called and canceled. Every time I went in to tan the staff was incredibly nice and the second I ask to cancel I am treated disrespected. They're were more than happy to take my money but god forbid I take it away. read more

I checked this out with 4 tans for $4 special. I ended up not going with LA Tan for rest of my tanining for 2 reasons. 1) I had similar reaction to the level of cleanliness as another reviewer and 2) there was another place with a slightly more convenient location for me which has higher level of upkeep. On the plus side the staff was very nice and their specials are a pretty good vallue. If costsi s your highest priority this will get the job done. read more

This place gets worse and worse! It is sooo dirty. There's dust all over the walls, dirt on the floor and paint chipping from the duct work on the ceiling! Last time, there was a used bandaid right in the middle of the floor! There are no mirrors, no towels (unless you ask, but you don't notice until you are undressed), and the radios, fans and face tanners are broken half the time. The only reason I give it two stars is because the staff is nice. I think they realize the shortfalls of the management and try to make up for it! read more

I had received a Groupon for a massage at this location for my birthday. On March 12th, I used the online appointment system that it states to use on the Groupon and scheduled a massage for today, 3/30/2017 at 7pm. I received an email confirmation and then also a reminder email about the appointment (both clearly state it is for LA Tan in South Elgin). However, when I went in for my appointment this evening, I was told that the massage therapist is only there on Wednesdays and Sundays and that it was MY FAULT because I should have called instead of using the online appointment system (that is the LA Tan scheduling system and it is listed directly on the Groupon). Both employees stated that it happens all the time and that people need to call to schedule vs using the online system - but neither apologized for the inconvenience, accepted that it was LA Tan's responsibility, or even acted like they cared. I went to this tanning salon for a couple months and bought a few one time use lotion packet. I switched to another salon after moving and a girl asked me if I really liked the lotion Jwow lotion and offered me two packets because that's what I had bought in the past. I told her that I was only buying one lotion packet. Someone at the South Elgin store must have been double charging my card when I only bought one and this had happened multiple times. This has to do with their massage service. I cannot recommend this service because it is not very professional. I was told three times that when you purchase a groupon they would not make any money and I should tell everybody I know about this service. It was noisy because the air conditioner is not attached to the room but above the room, so there was a noisy fan and light as well as all kinds of other noises, not very relaxing!!!! I was also called not by name but with a not very flattering title, not very professional, I am sure it should have been funny but it was not!!! Massage was not great, I experience much better On top of this experience there was no water served afterwards. No I am sorry but not worthwhile to go there again!! read more
