Solid choice. Good food, drinkable house wine. Happened upon this place our first night in Venice and we were glad we chose it.

Made a reservation here before coming to Italy. There were a great amount of people when we arrived but not too many, however the tables fill up fast, so it's still better to make a reservation prior. I loved the warm & cozy ambiance at their outdoor patio, you get to see street performers stopping by to perform every now and then (you can choose to tip them after or not). The food here was surprisingly good! I was so amazed by how tender the steak was cooked and how they really had that truffle taste soaked in that steak. Their truffle pasta was scrumptious! Italians tend to undercook their pasta but this pasta was in perfect texture of chewiness with truffle well distributed throughout the entire plate *chefs kisses* their cocktail shrimp definitely wowed me as well, but the salad in the middle kinda threw me off since they add real cocktail/alc into that salad (just personal preference). I would definitely come back again! What an ideal romantic lunch spot! We were tempted to try the place across the street, as it had good reviews and was recommended by our Airbnb host, but something about La Tavernetta 48 drew us in. Perhaps it was the menu and the hole-in-the-wall feel, and the lack of restaurant guide stickers on the windows. The setting was quaint but seemed unfinished, with few frames set against the stone and white walls, and lighting that was unfortunately fluorescent. We were ushered into the dining room to the right of the entrance, filled with locals but for two visiting priests. The entrance, by the way, was not entirely obvious. We had to double check ourselves to make sure we weren't entering the kitchen directly, or worse: someone's home. We ordered quickly then sat back and listened to the priests' banter. Too bad there wasn't a common dining table--we would have loved to participate in their theological discussion! I suspected the portions would be Italian--that is, particularly filling--but my partner and I ordered a grilled veggie antipasto plate to split all the same. We didn't actually get around to finishing it before the main dishes came, and we certainly couldn't finish it after we started tucking into our pasta (we had been so wise, too: we had refused the bread!). The vinegary button mushrooms were the best part of the assortment. I would have sprinkled some on my pasta had there been more (I have a thing for mushrooms). In preparation for my cacio e pepe, and to complement the grilled zucchini and red pepper, I ordered a glass of crisp white wine: the perfect, refreshing choice. The cacio e pepe was magnificent, with pepper sprinkled decoratively onto the white bowl's lip. It was just the right amount of creamy, the right amount of black pepper, and zesty and tangy to the last bite. My fiancé's lasagna came in its own cast iron dish, still bubbling from the oven. This was perhaps the freshest, creamiest lasagna I have tasted. I regret only finding this place on our last day, otherwise I would have come back and ordered this myself. Maybe with a side of mushrooms. The wait staff was lovely, too--full of smiles and ready to banter. I'll be back here on my next trip to Rome. read more

Great place. They bring you a complementary glass of Prosecco when you sit down. We started with beef tarter with truffles, I had the spaghetti carbonara, boyfriend had pasta with truffle sauce. We split a mixed seafood grill along with a mix of grilled veggies. The spaghetti carbonara was excellent, the pasta with truffles just good. Wonderful grilled veggies (A mix of eggplant, zucchini, red peppers and mushrooms). The grilled seafood was just OK. It had about four large shrimp, complete with heads. I came here with my parents on my last night in Rome. We had no reservations on a wet Monday night. Luckily, no issues being half the restaurant was still available. We were greeted by a friendly glass of bubbly and warm welcome from the staff. Already, the meal was off to a good start! We ordered a half liter of the house white, the mixed bruschetta, caprese salad, seafood linguine, steak with truffle sauce, pesto with shrimp and tiramisu to finish. Everything was delicious! The food came out at a good pace and my parents were pleased. The seafood pasta sauce had great flavor. I really enjoyed the pistachio in my pesto. The truffle sauce complimented the steak perfectly. Grilled seafood was tasty, very fresh but squid was a bit over cooked and slightly rubbery. We had similar dish in Venice and it was simply Devine. 2. Ordered the lobster spaghetti: wow, total disappointment, lobster was over cooked, still had vein in it and not a lot of favor. Also the electricity went out, they reset it but my girlfriend was stucked in the dungeon like basement bathroom - pitch black. If you're looking for a slow, bland, terribly serviced meal- this is your place. Let me start with the service- SLOW AS HELL. And the timing was just so off. We ordered our first course to share and they brought out the first course AND my second so by the time my husband's second course came out, our sides and my food was terribly cold. The shrimp in our seafood linguine was undercooked. We brought it up to the waiter and he kept saying it was cooked. The middle of the shrimp was grey- DEFINITELY not cooked. Our second course, we ordered the beef filet with truffle. They're lucky this one was delicious and 1/2 worth the disappointment of everything else. The plating on this dish was really weird. The yellow drizzle is a tarty dessert drizzle and the red was what tasted like ketchup. Not tasty when mixing with the meal. Our sides- spinach and roasted potatoes were B L A N D. Spinach was supposed to come with garlic, but there was no garlic to be found. We've also had better tasting potatoes everywhere else in Rome. An intimate Italian restaurant set within a cobblestone street. A wonderful selection of antipasti, primi piatti and secondi (appetisers, starters and mains). I loved the bruschette selection. The fresh of tomatoes with olive oil on crunchy bread was simplicity at is tastiest. The porcini and the artichoke bruschette were excellent too. If you prefer buffalo mozzarella or burata with tomato to start, you will find it here too. For main, I had lobster spaghetti. Half a lobster with perfectly al denote spaghetti was a real treat! The food here is amazing. We got there a little before they opened so they were still setting up and already all the outside tables were reserved. The manager was kind enough to offer us a table that he has a 9pm reservation so we gladly took it. Once we sat down, they welcomed us with a complementary glass of bubbles. We booked a Italy/Greece tour and had two days in Rome before we sailed. We were staying in a nearby AirBnB and were pretty tired from our fun day of exploring the city. We opened up Yelp and started looking around for nearby places. La Tavernetta immediately caught my eye so off we walked the two blocks to the restaurant. Being from the US we eat early so we got there at 7pm, opening, and we were immediately seated. The restaurant is minimally decorated but beautifully. I started with the Insalata di Polipo* con Capperi e Olive Nere. Fresh and delicious. The tomatoes were so ripe and perfectly delicious. The olives and capers added the perfect saltiness. I ordered a truffled pasta that was a special for the day. My favorite meal of the entire 2 week trip! The pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked. The amount of truffle in the dish was illegal! I am kidding, but it was just so amazingly delicious. My son ordered the Grigliata Mista (Scampi, Gamberi e Calamari)*-mixed seafood grill. The size of the prawns were outrageous! I tried the calamari from his dish and it was fresh and tasty. Our friend ordered the Risotto con Fiore di Zucca, Scampi e Zafferano. The risotto was tender and had the perfect spice. This place was such a hidden gem. Located right in an alley, it's a bit hard to find but definitely worth it. When my friend and I went, we went right when they opened and they were doing a two-course lunch special with a glass of wine. By the time we got to the second course, we were already full. The amatriciana pasta dish was the best. I loved the pasta that they used and it was cooked al dente of course. The sauce was so simple but extremely robust and full of roasted tomato flavor without too much sauce. Each paste was coated with the perfect amount of sauce. It was so delicious! read more

I hate to even do this because this whole Coronavirus thing has everyone messed up. So maybe this is not indicative of their normal quality. But I found this place because of the high Yelp reviews and did not have a good meal so (much like the risotto) I'm still salty. Here we go. I order a glass of wine. He puts it down and it looks like he gave me flat Coke. Like I can see from 10ft away it's oxidized. I taste it to confirm and then I mention it to the waiter. Dude is going to pretend he doesn't know what bad wine is. "Spoiled?" "Turned?" "Stale?" "Too old?" "Open a long time?" No, he's mystified. Ok pal, you know this bottle has been sitting on the rail with a crumbly cork jammed into it for the last month, but whatever. Just take it. I order a .25 of the house wine, figuring it would be fresher. It's got that kombucha unwashed-beer-tap taste, but whatever. Didn't feel like trying to explain that. It was red and contained alcohol so it was a step up from the previous. We had the Roman artichokes, which were delicious. I had the bacon wrapped filet mignons, it was also very good. We were there the minute it opened for dinner and the place was already packed. Luckily, we got a table outside without a reservation. The ambiance here was very nice, it looked exactly like what an Italian restaurant should look like and along with good food and wandering musicians, it was a dream-like experience. Once seated, we were given complementary sparkling wine and we ordered the Mixed Bruschetta (Tomato, Porcini Mushrooms, and Artichokes). All three flavors were great but our favorite was the classic tomato. For the entree, I ordered the truffle spaghetti, which was one of the specials, and my husband ordered the Risotto with Pumpkin Flower and Saffron, since pumpkin flowers are a Roman specialty. The truffle spaghetti was a solid 5/5. There is no such thing as too much truffle but if there was, this dish would be there. The creaminess, richness, and flavor of this dish in incomparable with any other truffle dish I've ever had. My husband enjoyed his saffron risotto but since he said my truffle spaghetti was better, I'll give the risotto a 4/5. I personally don't like saffron so I thought the risotto was so-so, but he said it was very good. As much as we wanted to get dessert, we were too full after finishing our dinners. The owner, Federico, is one of the nicest gentlemen you'll meet. He extremely kind, caring and dressed to the nines. His appearance and that if the restaurant reflect the care and quality they put into preparing meals. The meals were outstanding!! We're a family of 4 and don't always agree. But when it came to La Tavernetta, we all agreed it was outstanding! We order bruschetta that was so fresh and flavorful, you'd think they just plucked the tomatoes and herbs right off the vine. The pasta meals were second to none and the roasted vegetables were unbelievably delicious. Furthermore, the atmosphere was warm, contemporary, clean and reflective of a high end restaurant. I ordered a goji berry risotto special that was decent. I should have stuck with my original plan of ordering the seafood risotto dish. My girlfriend ordered the seafood risotto dish after I decided to be adventurous and order the special. I lost this gamble! The seafood risotto had a terrific brine taste that made me feel like I was out at sea. I don't remember if oysters were in this dish but it tasted like it. I would go back to this restaurant just to get the seafood risotto. If you can find this restaurant, then it is well worth the trip. It is located within a maze of narrow streets. This restaurant does not charge a cover. We were seated outside so several panhandlers tried to sell us roses. A few people also played instruments outside of the restaurant and requested money from us. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. The service here was very good and the staff was very friendly, and I enjoyed the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. I ordered "first course" dishes as I wasn't in the mood for meat or fish, which comprise almost every dish in the "second course" category. The eggplant Parmesan was the best I've ever had, coming from America and having eaten this same dish many times in restaurants there. I would highly recommend eating this here, and I think it was so great because of the olive oil base. The stuffed ravioli with spinach and risotto wasn't bad but wasn't anything special, and I wouldn't recommend ordering this as your meal. AMAZING!! Found this place on Yelp and I was not disappointed at all, I was actually quit surprise. Came here TWO nights in a row because the food was so good. The staff and decor are very nice, has a romantic feel to it. We were greeted with 2 glasses of prosseco. Our first visit, we had the bruschetta with tomatoes, carbonara, cacio de pepe and tiramisu. The bruschetta was great, the tomatoes were ripe and juicy with a good amount of olive oil, salt and pepper. My carbonara was by far the best I ever had! Pasta was cooked perfect, al dente with a copious amount of bacon and cheese. The cacio de pepe was great as well. Tiramisu was also good. Our second visit we had the bruschetta again, my gf's favorite, clams which were well seasoned and huge portion size. For our entrees, I had the ravioli and my gf had the gnocchi. The ravioli were okay, some pieces weren't cooked, the gnocchi was better. Overall this place is great and definitely my favorite restaurant in Rome. I'll be back! read more

Rating: 95/100 pts La Tavernetta 48 served me the best meal I had during my stay in Rome. It's a quick 5 minutes away from the Pantheon and the popular Piazza Novana, but its location, in one of the alleys near Piazza dele Coppelle, may take some time to find. I circled the area for 15 minutes in the rain before finally locating it, but it was completely worth the effort. Tip when looking: as the name implies, the address is #48. Whereas most meals in Rome will cost you well over €20 if you get both a primo and a secondo, this Tavernetta has a course special (definitely for lunch, not sure about dinner) that includes a primo, a secondo, a glass of wine, and a bottle of mineral water for €15. You can choose from among 4 primo and 4 secondo, all of which change daily. I chose Pumpkin & Gorgonzola Parppadelle Pasta as my primo. This was amazing...and so much food! I had never had parppadelle pasta, which essentially is long, semi-thick flat noodles. There was plenty of nicely sized chunks of pumpkin mixed in. The pumpkin meat was fresh, having a subtle, natural sweetness (as opposed to tasting sugary), which went great with the pungent gorgonzola. The long noodles were perfect for mingling with the cheese and pumpkin. The portion was so generous that I had to stop myself 75% down the bowl, knowing I had one more course coming up. For my secondo, I got Lemon Pork Escalope. This was also incredible! Two thin, yet substantial slices of pork were topped with an exquisite lemon sauce, and further with fresh, tart lemon slices. I stopped eating my pasta just in time to be able to enjoy this, ending up completely and blissfully full. In addition to serving incredible food, there were a couple other nice touches that helped make this an above and beyond experience. First and foremost, service is top-rate. The service in many Italian restaurants, although generally well-meaning, can seem slow, brusque, and off-putting to Americans. Owner Fred (who probably will be the one greeting you at the door) demonstrates a superb degree of warmth and professionalism, exuding Italian hospitality simultaneously combined with the efficiency of fine dining. Sadly, I do not drink wine. (What a waste, right?) They let me change out the wine included with my meal to the drink of my choice, completely stress-free. (I went with an Italian apple juice.) Finally, they are humble and unpretentious. Whereas most restaurants in popular areas charge a mandatory coperto fee, a servicio fee, or (in particularly arrogant cases) both, my "conto" had absolutely no extra fees. The €15 includes everything, and adding in anything else for service is completely optional. (I was so impressed that I felt inclined to round up a bit.) The constantly rotating "4x4" menu not only ensures that there's something for everyone, but that the experience will stay seasonal and be unique every time. When visiting Rome, I recommend coming here at least once for an authentic meal done right. read more

We had the trio of fish tartar to start (salmon, sea bass, tuna) - fresh and lightly seasoned - balance of the seasoning with the freshness of the seafood - would highly recommend it. For primi we had the truffle tagliolini, mixed seafood linguini, and gnocchi in Sorrento sauce - all are outstanding - pasta cooked perfectly (as in all/ most places in Italy) with great flavor in harmony with the chewy/texture of pasta. The seafood linguini (clam/mussel/squid/octopus) and truffle tagliolini deserves special mention and definitely should be order. We shared the mixed grilled seafood (shrimps/squid/octopus/salmon/tuna/scallop) - again fresh and grilled/balanced seasoning to perfection. Finished with lemon ice cream and crème brûlée (crème brûlée deserve special mention). It was the perfect place for perfect meal to cap off our 10 day trip to Italy. It's not often that one finds themselves seated in a tiny Italian restaurant off a side street in Rome but thanks to Yelp I was able to find and experience this gem. The dinner started with small flutes of champagne, on the house, and a friendly waitress. We tried the bruschetta (which was fresh and flavorful), and enjoyed some of the house white wine. The wine was smooth and prominent, very crisp and refreshing. I had the grilled chicken (needed a lighter fare and wanted to save room for gelato later in the evening) and it was delicious. Very moist and seasoned with a nice little side salad. This location also provided free WIFI (always helpful for travelers) and the fresh bread was warm and baked to perfection. There's not much more I can say that hadn't been said; La Tavernetta won't let you down for a solid meal so stop in and enjoy! read more

What a great restaurant. Let me tell you! It's a small place in an alley, just use gps on a smart phone and you'll find it. I would definitely make a reservation online, especially if you from another country and don't speak Italian. When you make a reservation you get free sparking white wine when you sit down I sat outside because inside was a little crowded and quite warm. Outside was great, it started raining but we were covered with umbrellas so we didn't get wet and the sound of the rain was fantastic. For an appetizer we had the artichokes alla Roma (to die for. ) they melt in you mouth. And for dinner I had the spaghetti carbonara which was fantastic. We were lucky to get here before the kitchen closed after one of our late night tours of the city. We were both starving and were excited to try this restaurant after reading the menu and the reviews. The pasta was all home made and incredible which of course extended to the meat dishes that proceeded them. The ambiance was everything we were hoping for in a small spot located on the many narrow roads. The staff was incredible kind and helpful and made the experience even more enjoyable. 3.5 Stars. Cute little place in the heart of Rome. All of the staff were attentive and the setting was beautiful but the food was mixed. We ordered filet & truffle tartar for the appetizer, carbonara pasta and truffle cream pasta for the pasta, and mixed seafood grill for the main course. Of the items, the carbonara was only one we loved. We usually love truffles but these dishes were a little off. Similarly the seafood grill was okay but a little off-tasting. With that said, we had a lovely and romantic meal at an outdoor table and a thoroughly positive experience. Just a tiny bit disappointed at the food quality. We chose not to send back the food, but I did notice that the table next to ours did not like their risotto and the server graciously did not charge them for it. I found this spot on yelp, it's every bit of 5 stars! I read a few reviews while walking from Trevi fountain and the good ones are 100% spot on. See my pictures for everything we devoured... the home made lasagna is the best I've ever had (anywhere). I sampled every dish and they were all fresh and full of flavor. The only dish that was good and not GREAT was the lobster ravioli. Service was good and the people were nice, the ambiance is wonderful! The chef was friendly too (see the pic). 5 stars all day for this Italian find. read more
