My husband and I travel occasionally between central Virginia and Virginia Beach, usually on…read moreInterstate 64. We recently decided to "see something new" by taking the slower, less familiar route. Despite having lived in Virginia for over 30 years, we didn't realize that we would be traveling through some of the counties where Virginia's famous peanuts are grown. The first billboards near Waverly caught our attention, but we didn't stop at the first shop that was advertised. We decided that, if there were any other peanut shops, we would stop because Virginia peanuts would make a perfect present for our upcoming visits with some non-Virginia friends and relatives. Thankfully, we found Adam's Peanuts and Country Store soon after. As others have mentioned, Adam's is a true country store, with country smoked hams in crates as you enter, homemade jams and jellies, a dizzying array of peanuts (raw, boiled, salted, chocolate-covered, and more), plus much more. As mentioned, we were there for the peanuts, and ended up buying a whole box full -- about $140 worth to be precise. The quality of the nuts is top-notch, and we appreciated the variety of the products. The prices also weren't too bad though my husband tends to compare these to the giant canisters from Costco! The ambiance of the shop was also country comfortable. My 3-star rating mostly reflects the lack of attention from the elderly shopkeepers. While others on Yelp have characterized them as friendly and helpful, that was not our experience. While we were the only customers upon entering, neither greeted us when we came into the store. My husband asked if they had any samples of the nuts for us to try to help inform our decision on which nuts to buy. They didn't, and they seemed befuddled by the question. Finally, in checking out, I tried to engage them in a conversation about peanut growing in the county, to no avail. March, 2025.

I love the country store ambiance ...and the country ham sandwich. I stopped by Wakefield,…read moreescaping I95 for a stretch, and glad that I did. Those sandwiches are the original fast food. I also picked up some provisions, including McCutcheon jams that I never see at home.

Started with Brussels and they were some of the best that I've ever had. We ordered the Rose Marie and Truman. Both delicious and filling. Good draft list and interesting cocktails. Service was great and noise levels weren't as loud as I expected from other reviews

What a disappointment. Service was good, but very forgetful. Just think he was new…read more Food was disappointing. Fried Brussel sprouts with hot honey/balsamic/ feta were average. Not much flavor. Kids chicken strips were a chicken patty that was overcooked and cut up. Also came out lukewarm at best. The Rueben was soggy and had about three slices of meat on it. Very little sauce on the sandwich no and was charged for extra when I asked for more. Added the Parmesan truffle fries which were powered Parmesan with some truffle oil sprinkled on top. Again all lukewarm. The Timberwolf burger had maybe two jalapeño's on it and the onions were burnt. The regular burgers and kids are the same size. Housemade pickles were soggy and the cucumber skins were tough. The quality of food from when we had eaten here a couple years ago was subpar in comparison. If you are going to charge for upscale items then they need to be upscale in the quality of what you are serving. Will not be back.
