    Chimichanga Dinner

The food at La Terraza is much more authentic than some other places (cough cough Plaza). You can still get your basic, sigma, alpha or whatever the kids say now a days food, but you can also food with authentic spice and seasoning. The margaritas are always a generous size and aren't just syrup. The service is good, even on busy nights and when an order is wrong they will always fix it. During "off" times is best, but if you're all about the hustle and bustle they have that ambiance too. The outdoor area is covered which is extremely convenient. I'd take this over any other place up here for your basic Mexican and marg.

Ambiance: (5/5) There is plenty of seating and it is very clean. Price: (5/5) The portions are huge especially with the lower prices. Food: (5/5) It's hard to find good Mexican food in Virginia I feel. I really enjoyed this place. The salsa and other dip were amazing. I got the lunch special (beef fajitas). They came with really flavor rice and beans as sides. The beef was spiced perfectly and it even reheated every well. I want to come back when I'm in the area and try other dishes. My friend got the chile verde and she really enjoyed it as well/ that reheated well too. Service: (5/5) Food come out quick and the staff is so nice. In conclusion, can't wait to try more!

Chips and salsa! The chips that evening were just a little overcooked

Went here again last night, and tried a few more entrees and was not that impressed. Had visited 5 months ago and the entree we had was good but sadly not this time around. I tried the chicken poblano enchiladas and the sauce which the waiter told me was a mole sauce was not a good mole sauce at all. Also the chicken that came in the enchiladas was dry and rough. Rice was also overcooked. I want fluffy Mexican rice. I also had the Chile rellano and it was okay. The sauce on it www not good either. Maybe they don't make good sauces. My husband had the chicken over rice with peppers and onions added in. It is topped with cheese sauce. It's sort of sad when you have to order more cheese dip because there is not enough on it. Service was still good, but now trying more items I won't be back.

This is my friends and I go to spot during happy hour! Not only is the food tasty, but the drink deals are phenomenal. A giant fish bowl marg for $8? Sign me up. For my main, I ordered the Burrito Mexicano (pictures). Massive burrito that I could not finish but tasted great with every bite. The chips each time I have gone have been great and they will bring more on request! Pro tip for Williamsburg is they have the special white sauce dip local to the tidewater area. I agree with a previous review about the queso portion being a tad small but it's still warm goodness and worth it.

Don José burrito with rice and beans covered in melted cheese

Greeted with a smile upon entering. Very friendly waiter. Easy to understand and quick to place our order. Food came out quickly and very hot. I had the lunch size chimichanga with beef tips. Oh so good and tender. Rice on the side. Delicious. Others had the Don José burrito with rice and beans. The next plate was huevos con chorizo. Food was hot and delicious. Kids just had fries. Finger food at its best. Restaurant was extremely inviting and clean. Would definitely go again if I was to return to the area.

So, let's find out how the visit went. There weren't a lot of people inside and there was only one waitress attending to tables. They have a bar area, tables and booths. We decided to eat near the entrance to their supermarket. It took a while for us to roam through the menu, but decided on what we wanted a few minutes after getting seates. I chose a 1/2 chicken with two sides (fried yucca and french fries). The Peruvian chicken was pretty good and flavorful. Both the fried yucca and fries could've been seasoned more, but were plentiful. I actually saved half of my meal for takeout and tasted well for dinner. Unfortunately, the bad part of our visit was the decor. The restaurant is located in a strip mall which has seen better days. Seats at the booth are torn up.....literally. The tables are outdated. The floor is in pretty bad shape, especially near the bar area. And in the bathroom, the paper towel dispenser was not connected to the wall and instead, laying on the floor. It's not comfortable washing your hands and then turning it sideways where you can get paper. I really don't mean to sound mean,, but the decor alone would turn folks away. It needs a big renovation all around. Hopefully, down the road, they can upgrade or they may become a thing of the past :(

The one standout was their take on a Crunchwrap supreme (their take from Taco Bell and it was good! I just ate the little bit of meat out of it, couldn't even eat the shell! Not worth $8 for one! The other taco was a chicken mole and it wasn't bad but for most street tacos they give you two tortillas to hold it all together. Only one and it all fell apart. Will not be returning!

We were visiting from DC, which is objectively a more expensive area, and yet the price per taco was higher than individual tacos at our favorite taco chain in DC, especially for the shrimp and, especially curiously, the cauliflower. And then the portions of shrimp and cauliflower in those tacos was pretty disappointing. Also, very fried. Nachos and quesadillas seemed like a better value than tacos so, while my husband got the aforementioned tacos, I got the nachos without any added protein. Much better value - huge portion at a small price. Some odd choices though. There was an appropriate amount of cheese (beer cheese, which seemed appropriate given its location inside a beer hall) but a really small amount of other toppings (beans, corn, pico I think?) relative to the huge amount of raw jalapeño slices. The dish relies really heavily on jalapeño for flavor and freshness, and I like jalapeño, but these woud be more appropriately described as "jalapeño and cheese on chips" than nachos, IMO. If you love raw jalapeño you'll be in heaven but for those who are accustomed to jalapeños being an accent, this is A LOT. It was like the primary ingredient after chips, even above cheese. All in all, it's fine if you're in the area and want tacos or need food with your beer but is it somewhere I would go out of my way to visit? Probably not.
