The salsa was more of a marinara rather than salsa. While the food wasn't bad but it also wasn't that great either. We were not impressed. The bartender was not up-to-date on his mixology skills. Run by Mexicans so that's a good start! Our party of 8 was seated quickly but service with drinks was a little slow. No problems there. I enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa, and ordered a mango margarita. It was a large one, but seemed a bit weak in the alcohol area, and although large, I still consider pricey for it's $8 price tag. I ordered the enchiladas...which was fairly salty and lackluster, but still an acceptable meal. Just not much wow factor. For the Aberdeen area, I'm just glad there is some ethnic diversity for food and its fine for what it is. Would I eat there given the chance of something in California or where there is a heavy Mexican population with more choices? Probably not. But hey for Aberdeen, this is A-ok. Two stars is being kind, but this is not the worst I've ever had. Thats not a compliment! The service was horrible. We stood for ten minutes at the front and didn't see a single restaurant employee. My bf was finally seated while I was in the bathroom. After that we were all but totally ignored. Seemed to be only one waitress in the joint and she took her time at every stage of our visit. Food was eatable, but unremarkable. Had a burrito that seemed to be rolled in a stale shell. My bf had a quesadilla. He ate it, but said it was different. Worst 22 dollars spent. I came here for lunch with some coworkers one day. One problem that we found right away was that the servers did not appear to speak a lot of english. This made it difficult to get certain things (i.e. plates, refill on chips...). Also the service was super slow and several times our server disappeared especially when we wanted the check. Besides this the food was okay. Rather generic mexican food, but not bad. Probably won't be going back unless I have an entire day to burn. read more

This place is delish. I've been here a few times and came last night for dinner. We ordered the fresh guac and the waiter made it right in front of us at the table. You can order it with different mix ins (onions, tomatoes, jalapeños). For my entree, I had the lime chicken with rice, black beans with mozzarella cheese, guacamole salad and 2 tortillas. The chicken was extremely flavorful. Portions are big so definitely come hungry. As far as the drinks go, their beer specials are pretty good. We got a pitcher of frozen raspberry margaritas. The flavor was super sweet, too sweet for my liking but it got the job done. On Friday nights they have a mariachi band play around the restaurant which made it super fun, but was a little loud. read more

We have gone to La Tolteca for years and in the last few months the quality of service and food has gone way down here . Got take out there tonight .. ordered it at the location in Aberdeen . We went to the restaurant to order and wait for our food as no one picked up the phone when we called . We live literally three mins from the location and when we unpacked dinner it was cold . The cheese wasn't even melted on the nachos , the chips were so soggy .. and it tasted like cheap American cheese in the enchiladas . The quesadilla was burned and also tasted like white velveta or fake cheese was used . We pitched most of it . It was inedible. Called to speak with a manager - surprise no one picked up the phone . Loved the decor with traditional hand painted, rustic Mexican furniture. We were seated quickly with menus and our drink order was taken immediately. I ordered s seafood chimi and my friend the carnitas plate. My food was so salty I couldn't eat it. Her Carnitas were dry and the plate presentation was sloppy. They took my chimichanga off the bill without being asked which was nice. Salsa, chips and ranch dip tasted pre-packaged. Very institutional. read more

We frequently go to a different La Tolteca that's pretty good. This location was not very good. It took 10 mins after seating before our waitress came. The $4.50 guacamole was incredibly small. Ordered soft tacos, received hard tacos. The food overall was very bland. Waitress NEVER came back after we got our food, no refills. The host had to get our check for us. When entering the establishment the greeter was seated on a nearby bench for several minutes watching me before standing to ask "how many" there were no other customers waiting to be seated - it was very awkward. Once seated it took 10-15 minutes before we were acknowledged. We were seconds from walking out. There were only 2 other tables with guests. The table side Guacamole was incredible but the meal was not. When the meal arrived the sides did not match the order - we wound up swapping our food which really wasn't a big deal, until I found a large chicken bone in the chimichanga (3 inches). Great service and good food! We came at an off time, which often means inattentive wait staff and lower quality food. Our server kept our drinks full and chip bowl replenished. Our youngest child swears this is the best quesadilla she has ever had and I am a huge fan of the Guadalajara special (the tamale was moist and delicious). First time coming to this restaurant today and definitely will not be the last! The experience was outstanding! Our server was Roberto we were at table 33. He was the only server for a while until a younger server showed up. Even as the Sunday crowd grew bigger his service never slacked. We got refills at good times, and our food came out quickly. He was very attentive. The food was excellent and the sweet tea was perfect! Additionally to the service and food being good, the appearance of the restaurant was amazing! My food was not prepared as I expected it to be. I ordered fish tacos, expecting battered fish filets with cabbage in hard taco shells. As you can see from the picture I uploaded, I was served crumbles of fried fish with cheese and lettuce in flour tortillas that quickly turned soggy. It came with an unknown white sauce and pico de gio on the side. My colleague ordered huevos rancheros over easy with sliced tomatoes substituted for refried beans. Instead, she received what the menu said. After mentioning it to the waiter, he apologized for the mix up, and brought her a plate without the beans and a larger portion of rice. A side of previously frozen chopped (she wanted sliced) tomatoes came out late enough to question if he forgot about it again. Already, I knew that the Bel Air location is terrible, but I gave this location a chance since the menu was recently revamped and some of my colleagues claim to have enjoyed their lunch here. I don't think that the food was good at all, and IF I come back, then I will ONLY be ordering drinks! Neither one of us wanted to finish our food or save it for later. I used to love this place, truly I did. But of as late, it's all went downhill. The service has certainly gotten worse. Hard to get your drink refilled, and takes quite awhile to get a server to even get your orders in. What should be a ~30 minute experience is easily double that. The only way to describe the food is bland. Mexican food (even the Americanized Tex-Mex we're all so used to) should have some zing to it. Don't just cover everything in a mountain of (pre-packaged, sawdust-infused) cheese and call it Mexican! I always come here hoping for a better experience, but inevitably leave underwhelmed. Their only saving grace? Price. For $7 you can have a (bland, unexciting) lunch. read more

Honestly had a bad experience here! It took us at least 5 minutes to be acknowledged when we first walked in. They charge you if you eat more than two baskets of chips. The small cheese dip (around 3 oz) was $4. I ordered the fajita taco salad without meat or sour cream and they got my order wrong. It was also very greasy and overpriced. It took a while to get our water refilled. Also they don't pay for Spotify premium so you had to listen to ads. My server was very kind, so I feel bad writing this, but I would not return to this establishment. read more

While it has a nice decor, some of it is broken down. I was seated at a booth back padding loose and hooks exposed. The 22 oz. beer mug was a great draft amber Mexican beer. The Carne Asada plate left a lot to be desired, the beef had not been properly marinated, was over cooked, and over salted. The two pieces of beef were generous in size but a shame that they were mistreated in preparation. A grilled green onion with the beef would have been nice and has always been served at other places that offer this plate. The flour tortillas were like warm, stuck together, and when one was pried loose, tough as cardboard. Will pass on desert, can't stand anymore bad food. read more

We couldn't have been more disappointed with our first and more than likely only visit to this location. We sat at the bar I asked if I could get a margarita without triple sec, she said no it was already mixed. Wow really a Mexican restaurant that doesn't mix a fresh margarita. :-( We were ready to order our food but the bartender had her back to us because she was on her phone that was sitting next to the cash register, we couldn't get her attention so we had to wait until she was finished. My husband ordered chicken tacos, he asked what came on them she said cheese and lettuce, he said no tomato? She said no do you want to add them he said yes and put them on the side along with cheese and lettuce. I ordered chiles rellenos with beef (that was the only option). Food came out quickly but the tacos had everything on the them instead of on the side as requested and there was so much juice from the chicken mixture that the soft taco shells were soggy. My dish came out on a scalding hot plate and the peppers were swimming in way too much sauce and cheese and when I cut into the pepper to take my first bite it was stone cold. Wow hot plate cold food.. SMH Again it took time to get the bartenders attention from the opposite side of the bar but when we did I explained they were cold and ask if they could heat them. They came back out hotter than the first time but not as hot as they should have been. They also had very little beef inside the already small pepper. I'm guessing they were premade/prepackaged stuffed peppers or they wouldn't have been so cold on the inside and beef wouldn't have been the only option, its obvious they were not freshly made. Also regarding the tacos when we got the bill we were charged for the tomatoes. Wow don't tacos come with tomatoes? why the charge extra for those? Again SMH For a place that claims to be authentic Mexican cuisine I'm shocked at what we experienced. Premade margarita mix and not freshly made and completely cooked entrees. We went on Friday night and immediately got sick. We found out there was bad OJ in our pitcher of regular margaritas....exactly! Also, our waiter was less then impressive. He literally came to our table to take order, bring our drinks (15 min after we ordered), bring our food, and to get our check. He never came to check on us or let us know why our food took an additional 20 min to get. We will never return to this place. I don't trust them to prepare my food and drinks properly. stop there today (5-11-2019) to take my wife out for Mother's Day dinner, the parking lot was almost empty which should have been the main clue, one table was dirty was dirty (so I asked him if the had a wet rag that I would wipe it off) so he told me that he would move us to another table, so the they moved us to another table that was dirty. Then that table was dirty too, so he was like I can move you again, then I took one of the paper napkins and wiped the table off. Then they finally brought out the chips which were stale with red sauce, no white sauce. Then they came out and told us (after we ordered our food, that they did not have any chicken). We told then to give us a check for the drink my wife ordered, which should have been on the house by this time frame and charged us $10.00 for her drink. I was like really dude!!!!!!!!! Very good. Real Mexican food. Not some beans/burrito place -- though you can get those, too. I ordered one of their two or three varieties of chiles rellenos, with frijoles a la olla, and a real margarita (lime juice, Patron, orange liqueur, agave syrup) The owner made our 'ritas with great care and served them to us personally, asking us to taste them and let him know if they needed any changes. The food and the margaritas were delicious and our waitress was great -- just the right combination of friendly, professional and there when we needed her. read more

I have been here a few times and it is rather consistent...The food is nothing amazing but better than average Mexican with good portions at a reasonable price...But the service is always horrible. The dining room is always noisy, beyond what a busy dining room should be. For some reason every visit I have made the AC was either off or just not working properly because it was uncomfortably hot. Look I get it you are trying to give us a Mexican vibe...but you do not need to make it a Swedish sauna. The service....always horrible...the servers speak little English and are rather indifferent. Twice we had issues and even the manager spoke so little English he told us to call the next day and speak to someone else. WHAT?! Come on if you are going to expect us to pay in dollars please have some of the FOH staff speak enough English to make the visit workable. Otherwise we should just pay in Pesos. The service is very slow...and if your server gets a big table...well then you are ignored. They used to be across the street in a smaller location and the service was much better...but since the moved they just seem under staffed. IF they would just address the poor service issue they would earn an additional star. There are plenty of better Mexican choices and you should choose them until service here improves. read more

I mainly come here for the tacos but, this time I chose to try something different. I ordered the Carne Asada and was blown away by how tender and flavorful the meat was. It has to be one of the most delicious steaks that I have eaten in a long time. Of course, I had to order a margarita, as well, and chose the Gold Margarita. The marg was okay...I've had better there but, usually their margaritas are delicious. (Either way...I drank it.) Perhaps, I will try a different variety of margarita on my next visit. read more
