This used to be one of the best hidden secrets in Playa del Carmen (circa 2010), but after a few years now it has had a steep decline in service, price and quality. * They mostly only have single bedrooms, if you reserve a double they will purposefully either put you in the single room or push you to a lesser hotel they own across the street. * They "misplace" reservations. * The new staff is rude, no customer service skills. * The walls are thin, you hear your neighbors showers and talking. * The rooms are old, some are mildewy or smell in other ways. * WiFi is unreliable * No parking, but for $25+USD per day you can rent a car and park in the garage across the street read more

Great boutique hotel with clean and quiet rooms. The pool is beautiful at night and there is even a hotel. It is located near all the major attractions including many of the tasty local restaurants you read about. Breakfast is included in the attached restaurant and is actually pretty good. Only downside is that isn't on the beach but you can get on the sand in less than 5 minutes. Highly recommend this place. read more

Crappy hotel that doesn't honor reservations. Arrived in PDC after travelling all day today to discover thug security guards out front who wouldn't let us in. We showed them our reservations, yet they didn't care. Keep in mind we booked two months in advance. No response to our phone calls either. Worst hotel I have ever dealt with, hands down. read more

Not happy with the service, the management and property. I booked this hotel on booking.com and after 24 hours the property canceled my reservation so I called and asked the reason why, I was told they did not except American Express. When I rebooked the rooms they were no longer available as I was promised and had to upgrade to a junior suite which wasn't what we wanted spending $250.00 more. The common areas were dirty and service very poor. The best part of the hotel is a raccoon living in the property, he was way much friendlier than the owner and management! read more

This place has REALLY gone downhill. Rooms and pool are falling apart. I came here in 2007 and 2010 and gave La Tortuga five stars on TripAdvisor. This place was an absolute gem before but it's awful now. Like other reviews say the pool is ice cold. I honestly don't know how a pool can be this cold in PDC. It was cold on my other visits but there is a massive hot tub in the middle. Now the hot tub is broken, ice cold too. We stayed for 6 days and I asked if it would be fixed, they just responded "no, it won't get fixed." No one ever worked on it and there didn't seem like there was any efforts to fix it. In the six days I was there I never saw one guest get in the pool. Water in the room was sometimes off. Awful to come back from the beach and not be able to wash hands or shower. The amazing breakfast is gone. No more rancheros, burritos and American breakfasts with breakfast meat. The complimentary breakfast is just one egg and a spoonful of beans or a croissant. No more mango juice or the smoothies. You can get coffee with breakfast but no free coffee unless you make the gross little packets in your room now. I used to enjoy having a cup on the balcony when I first got up. The sun deck is also the deck for the gardeners maintenance equipment so it's a little awkward to be tanning in a bathing suit while like 5 dudes clean their trowels or whatever needs doing next to you. Be prepared for a constant stream guys walking past you to get to the work shed. No joke. Like in the course of one margarita I think gardeners walked past me at least thirty times. They all seem nice but just kind of awkward for the ladies I feel like. The new staff is fine but not warm and welcoming like the old staff. We used to always know everyone's name and they new ours. Nothing like that now. Lastly, coco bonga is way louder than it used to be. You can hear the bass pounding against the walls all night. Next time I visit PDC I'll find a new place to stay. I just experienced my first stay at La Tortuga for 8 nights and I must say it was a wonderful experience. All employees are genuinely kind, and helpful. The hotel is clean and the pool and bar area is beautiful. Whatever you need, whatever hour, La Tortuga employees are always there for you. I will be back. Also, the air conditioning was perfection, and the mini bar was definitely affordable and put to good use for those midnight cravings. read more

We've stayed here a couple of times when lucky enough to be in PDC and this has honestly become our go to place due to the quality and the affordability! The grounds here are amazing, the pool is lush, and winds through the tropical gardens, the bar has a comfortable seating area overlooking the pool and the on site restaurant, como como serves a delicious complimentary breakfast each morning and as a bonus is a popular local Mediterranean restaurant in the evenings. The resort is only a block from avenida 5 and the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. But best of all? The resort is adults only! Our room overlooked the pool area, I could literally roll out of bed in the mornings and straight into the pool or a lounger! And best of all we had a roof top jacuzzi which was hidden via access through the bathroom and up a flight of stairs! Not the most private of areas (could do with a thatched roof top!) but it was a gorgeous getaway in the afternoons when the sun had started to lose its bite and the pool area was getting a little too busy. Only negative, the resort is a block from coco bongo so if your room is on the wrong side of the hotel and your a light sleeper you may find the noise a little disturbing however we still managed with little disruption and somehow found ourselves on the 'wrong side' this trip. If you sleep with the air conditioner and fan on you'll barely notice! read more

The hotel is very beautiful and well maintained. The pool area is gorgeous with canals that run next to some of the rooms and lush greenery. It was really nice to relax by the pool and grab a drink from the outside bar. Our room was a little small but still very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Big huge shower with a bench and waterfall shower head. I would definitely stay here again in Playa. The location is right in the middle of restaurants, convenient stores, and bars. read more

Such an amazing visit! We were upgraded to a swim-up room which really made the stay. The pool is so cool and maintained very well. The free breakfast and coupon for the restaurant was also very nice and the food was delicious. Everyone we interacted with at the hotel was very nice and we were treated with impeccable service. Not entirely unpleasant physically, just off the tourist esplanade (ew), rooms adequate, slightly depressing but not appalling bar with small sad selection of drinks, but cooked their goose when they stiffed us on the parking charge ($20 per day). The boom malfunctioned, should have reimbursed us but just kept saying "you pushed the Button". They were obdurate. We are ordinary but ethical. Don't go there. Really. read more

You can't get a better deal for the price! I'm used to staying at luxury resorts, but my bf and I wanted to experience a trip where we didn't spend as much...lol. I'm extremely picky when it comes to where I stay, and typically, when you're cheaping out, the rooms are naaaasty. La Tortuga wasn't bad at all. We chose the standard room and I didn't feel the need to upgrade to the standard plus like everyone else had recommended. The bed was soooo comfortable and the sheets didn't feel icky. On top of that, the staff was AMAZING. They were extremely friendly and always willing to help us out. They gave us great advice on which streets we should avoid after dark. The location is also really great! It's literally a two minute walk to the shopping area and about five minute walk to the beach. I would definitely come back and stay here! read more

Cute, quaint. Staff was nice. Room was not that great. It smelt and was old and the bed sucked. The free breakfast was fab!!!

We're here now and since last night we've had no water. We asked to speak to the manager several time, who has not cared to show up to her place of business to deal with anyone. We missed our tour due to being unable to shower. Her staff is intimidated to give any info out. Another example of poor management skills. We've been waiting for her all morning but apparently she must be not concerned with what's going on in her hotel. Needless to say I had to use a bucket full of pool water so I can use the bathroom this morning. First time here and definitely NEVER COMING BACK! read more

Absolutely the worst experience. The staff is unorganized and apparently have no manners when there is an issue. We were given a room that was not ready to be occupied. The shower had rust and was dirty and there was a large A/c or humidifier machine outside of our door that wasn't removed until the next day. We had to ask constantly to have our sheets changed because they wouldn't do it unless we said something. This is a very unprofessional property and is definitely not family friendly (above 21 family friendly obviously). Don't ruin your trip by staying here. read more

Lovely hotel in the city center with great value for the price. For a very little extra you can upgrade for the suite and have a private jacuzzi on your balcony! Very clean, friendly staff, healthy options in the menu for breakfast wich is included in the price per night. Great location as it very close to the bars and restaurants, but still in a quiet area. read more
