LA VEDA NYC @ REDMOND Huge on saving money especially when it comes down to dying my hair, so I came across this spot sponsored on Yelp. I really liked how inexpensive it was especially for hair color changes, so I immediately booked with Gary through the phone. $250 flat for a balayage. I received a text message of the location itself. The message included that there would be a sign you'd see before entering the lot, and that there would be 3 hour available spots for free. When I got there, the sign was covered behind cars and a tree, and maybe a good 7 three hour spots that were in that small lot, all taken. Pretty crappy - there should be more spots available or at least a notice to park on street if parking is full. The message read to go through the back door and to call a number asking for Gary - a bit odd and unprofessional, but I went along with it. Gary went ahead and allowed me in and I sat on a chair as he finished up a customer before me. I got there about 15 minutes early to my appointment so I was ready to wait. As my time of appointment came - nothing was mentioned to Gary if he needed a couple more minutes or not. He was still chit chatting with the previous client while doing her hair. I'm not too much of a rushy person - especially since sometimes a client needs a couple minutes extra, so I waited and was patient. But I was wrong, I waited and sat there for 18 whole entire minutes after my appointment time, not an update, nothing. I was actually debating on leaving. I had the courage to turn around and asked Gary if my appointment is still okay as in my head I didn't want to be rude to the client he was working on, but showing my respect that I also booked an appointment 18 minutes ago. Gary replied and said he was almost done. So I just waited and finally it was my turn. Gary was very kind, went through the process of how he was going to do my hair, the products he plans on using, all of the details which I really liked as a customer making sure I'm understanding and following along. My hair had alot of work to do since I was going from my natural dark hair to a lighter blonde. The process was about 4 hours, and Gary did a great job. I'd come back because of how well Gary knew about my hair and took care of it (all of his products are shipped from NYC, which is really cool) - I definitely wish this spot was more convenient, professional, and on time. read more

Gary did a Japanese straight perm as well as a hair cut and my first set of bangs! He has such a wonderful vibe. He's from NY and you can tell by his aura. He's kind, funny and charismatic. My hair looks amazing and the bangs look fabulous. Mind you this is my first time having bangs so this morning I swung back in to have him teach me how to style these bangs, and he even sent me home with the fine tooth comb as a gift. 10/10 would recommend! read more

DO NOT go to this hairstylist. I usually don't leave reviews, but this experience was so disappointing, I had to speak up. I found this stylist through the Cezanne salon locator and booked an appointment thinking I'd only get the Cezanne treatment. But based on his confident reassurances, I also went ahead and got a color service -- huge mistake. Here's what I experienced: 1. He only works weekends and clearly treats this as a side hustle. He came in carrying all his tools in a bag, which made it obvious that he doesn't operate officially under the salon. It felt like he was working without the store manager's approval. 2. The appointment message raised red flags. He asked me to come through the back door and even said: "Please walk to the back door pathway entrance... and ask for Hairstylist Gary!" If this were legitimate, why the secrecy? 3. The color we agreed on was completely different from what I got. I've attached photos as proof -- the results were not what we discussed. 4. He overbooks himself. I sat for 1 hour and 15 minutes with product in my hair while he worked on another client he squeezed in. That's not just unprofessional -- it's careless. 5. He was rough and careless. He yanked at my hair while brushing, used scalding water while rinsing, and didn't check the straightener temperature. It was painful and uncomfortable. 6. He refused to refund or fix it during the week. When I expressed my disappointment, he insisted I come back only on the weekend -- again raising concerns about this being an unofficial setup. He apologized and offered to fix it, but only on his terms. To make matters worse, he failed to inform me that after a keratin treatment, you're supposed to wait 2 weeks before doing any additional treatments -- something another stylist later told me. I've been left feeling extremely self-conscious about how my hair looks, after spending $500. I don't even have the energy to report him to the salon because this entire experience has been exhausting and upsetting. Please save yourself the trouble -- avoid this stylist at all costs. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. Got my hair done here spring 2024 (cut and keratin blow out) with Gary. Reviewing now bc I keep seeing his signs around town and shocked he has a 4-star rating on yelp. I tried this place bc of the low cost on Groupon and the good yelp rating. Do not get deceived like I did. Like others have said: Unclean environment. Dust bunnies around the workspace and lots of cut hair on the floor. He has dirty hands and gives a messy wash, water and soap getting in my ears. He reeks of smoke and took breaks during the appointment to smoke in front of the store. I felt SCARED and UNSAFE in this appointment. We started with a wash and once my hair was wet, and during the keratin process, and during the trimming, he was yelling and often swearing in my face about different religions and politics. I tried three times to redirect that I just wanted to listen to my podcast, but he'd start talking angrily again. And it felt unsafe to have my hearing impaired. He did not physically harm me but it was upsetting. I have worked in the mental health field for about five years. I think Gary has untreated mental illness and needs help. He is verbally abusive and it was scary to be on the receiving end. Especially as a woman with him alone in an empty salon, in a mostly empty/quiet outdoor mall. I'm not someone who is easily spooked. I came home and told my family about it and was crying. My hair did not look great either. read more

Hair colorist was nice but the person who did the hair cut wasn't. He strongly smelled of cigarettes. All I wanted was layers and bangs and he said I have to show him a picture of what I want and he can't cut my hair without that! Then he cut my hair much shorter than I requested. He was so intimidating that I didn't dare say anything. When I asked him to cut my bangs shorter he refused and said this looks good, trust me. I am not opposed to taking suggestions from experts but the way he said it was scary and had a finality to it. After coming home I realized that he had even left a chunk of hair uncut. Horrible experience! I had gone for hair straightening and smoothening but they ruined and damaged my hair. They don't have expertise in doing any hair work.They wasted my 6 hours. They don't have any assistant to assist, they will put the mask on for more than hour and would take other customers in between your appointment. I usually don't leave comments unless they're either fantastic or really bad. If I could give it zero stars, I would. I'm also amazed, as others have commented, that they had such a positive rating, and of course, I was drawn in and scheduled an appointment. My experience was by far the worst I've ever encountered. I should have reported this business to the police, as another individual had done in the past, but I did not. The senior hair stylist made things awkward at first. He smells like a chimney. His hands and nails are filthy; I saw black stuff in his nails, and he touched my forehead while washing my hair, resulting in a pimple the next day. Anyway, it's strange because he started a discussion and asked where I'm from, but then he stated he's from the King and went on about it for hours. When the junior hair stylist arrived, the senior hair stylist began cursing so much and at one point he almost hurt the junior hair stylist. I felt very uncomfortable at this point and wanted to leave, but they had already begun on my hair, so I had to stay. I asked the junior hair stylist, and he responded that the senior hair stylist has a disability, but I believe it is a mental disorder that needs to be treated. He is quite unstable! Not to mention that the color is completely off. Some parts appear to be green, white, yellow, and grey. It's simply all over the place. Also, my entire back was wet from hair washing, so when I arrived home, I had to change the shirt I was wearing. I can't believe they didn't notice it. When I spoke with them before the appointment, they mentioned that they are a very professional hair stylist from Hong Kong who is extremely knowledgeable in hair colors. Please don't be deceived by all these lovely reviews, like I was. They provide the very worst service and are completely unprofessional. It made me wonder if they had a current license to operate. They stated if I was unhappy with my hair color, I could get it redone. But at this point, I'm terrified of returning there. read more

Horrible horrible experience at La Veda today. This was my 2nd visit to their salon and I found the hair treatment fabulous the 1st time. But this time it was over the top bad behavior. I am not talking about hair treatment here. So both the people in the salon are called Gary - there's younger Gary and an older Gary. So I walk in and older Gary is supposed to do my hair color. He comes in, asks me "where I am from" and I respond "Redmond" and he said "no where you really are from" and I responded "I am from India". Then I ask him "where he is from" and he laughed mockingly saying "do you really want to know where I am from". I was surprised and just muttered a "yeah" I thought I should just focus on reading my Kindle as I got the vibe that this conversation with the hair stylist is not going to be enjoyable ride. And boy I was wrong. He came back with the color mixed, and started with my color. He said "you wanted to know where you are from. Are you muslim?" I said "no I am Hindu". He said "you know I have had 14 or 16 customers since sometime and all of them were Hindu's from India, not a single muslim" I responded saying that could just be a conincidence Then he started on a monologue of there are 16 million muslims in India. And Pakistan and Bangladesh are muslim countries and China only has 0.02 million muslims I asked is that a good thing? Because I could not understand what he means by these things And then it started getting weird as he started being aggressive in his tone and language accusing India oppressing muslims. I could not comprehend whether he was saying its a good thing that China has less muslims or whether India has more muslims and are being oppressed. I defended that multiple religions in the country are there and each holds its ground and values. But it kept on getting uglier from there. As he started yelling on me, switching between English and his language which I am not sure what Chinese dialect was There were 2 more people in the salon - the younger Gary and a customer whose hair cut he was doing. At some irregular intervals younger Gary would say something in their language which I am assuming was to calm him down. This whole charade went on for good 10-12 mins by which I felt exhausted. I wasn't in the salon to be abused or even hold a debate to defend my motherland. But I would not stand some weird guy for baseless reasons start a hate speech It culminated to a point where he raised his hands, showed me his middle fingers and said "India". I just had it. I told younger Gary this is highly unprofessional and I would leave and wash my hair at home Then younger Gary got in action, persuaded the older guy to walk out of the door and leave. they had some arguments in their own language which I don't know. I felt unsafe because clearly the guy was unstable. But the environment was unsafe as well since younger Gary never felt the need to jump in and calm down his partner while he is being nasty to a customer I called my husband because I wasn't sure if older Gary would come back and do something. Younger Gary I told him what kind of behavior is this and is unacceptable He said and I quote - "I am sorry okay. He's political. Let me please finish my hair cut" Older Gary came back few mins later picked up his things all while arguing with younger Gary in their language. He apologized to the other guy getting hair cut - the audacity of it And then leaving said "Sorry India" and smirked and began berating in his language all over again Thankfully my husband came over quickly. I got the hair color washed, cancelled rest of the services that I had booked and left I did do a police report since it felt unsafe there for sometime. Police mentioned since he didn't commit a crime they can't open a case but they have noted it down. I am not sure what kind of action they will take. I also want to let all others know to be extra cautious if heading over to the place. Super disappointed. Sounds like there may be one good stylist and one bad stylist. Guess which one I got. Looks like ratings were good on other services, but I highly recommend NOT getting your haircut here. Wished I read through all the reviews and left soon as I noticed the vibe was off which happened early on. When I got my hair washed, it wasn't as relaxing as other places, but really awkward and messy. Shampoo got into my ears and the collar on my top got wet. I've been to other hair salons and this is the first time that has ever happened. The conversation was also super awkward and made me uncomfortable. Not going to get into details, but it was mostly about religions. When asked what cut I wanted and when they had no idea and asked to show a photo, you'd think they'd at least get it close. Even with specific instruction to keep the length and do no more than an inch of trim on the longest length, the hair stylist did not listen. I even told them during the process that it was too short, but they insisted it was still long in the back. I could tell it wasn't. I accepted that it was shorter than I wanted and had hoped at least that the cut would be nice. Nope. Before I went in I had long layered hair and by the time I left, 7 inches had been chopped off and the layers are not symmetrical. Super upset over this experience, but wanted to share so that others will not have the same experience. Please read through ratings even though the average is high. I called and set an appointment. Upon arriving I got the older man named Gary. He asked what I wanted and I asked for him to just clean up the sides of my hair but not cut the top of my hair, and he agreed. After cutting the sides, be began to start thinning the top of my hair & the bangs at the roots. I interjected and asked him not to do that even though it was too late before he could cut more. He then began to speak almost threateningly that he needs to cut it. He then said "ok so no more haircut?" And literally blew dry my hair for 10 seconds and let me go. I had the cut hair falling everywhere on my clothes and shoes. He then said I should get a perm on my way out, and when I politely declined, he literally told me "ok if you don't you'll look ugly". I tipped to avoid escalating the situation. But I will not be back. That man has problems, he kept dropping things constantly (the hair clippers and scissors on the floor, which is sort of unsanitary) and he did not speak coherently and smelled of cigarettes.
