Surprisingly good food, considering it's in Grants. I'll admit I don't know too much about Grants, but after driving around town a little and seeing the large amounts of closed businesses and abandoned stores, I was thinking it might be KFC, pizza, or Denny's tonight. La Ventana was refreshingly good and nourishing, especially after a day walking around the Acoma Pueblo. The meats were tasty and even the rolls were a bit different. La Ventana is set back a little from the main road. There is an O'Reilly Auto Parts and Beall's which are easier to spot. Turn into their parking and lot and go back. read more

When I go to a steak house I expect to have steak not frozen food. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was a big ole piece of frozen "food". The entire package of 12 probably cost them $12 bucks but yet that's what they are charging for each. The mashed potatoes were most likely instant as well. Was not impressed. read more

Very nice "steakhouse" that is relatively upscale for Grants. Friendly service and a full bar including some local beers. The menu is pretty varied with both traditional dishes and NM specialties. I had the steak with cheese enchiladas which was just fine. The green and red chile on the enchiladas was tasty but not particularly hot. La Ventana Steakhouse is the perfect place to go if you have a large group. They accommodated our group of 10 and the service was impeccable! The food was delicious and the drinks were well made. The only thing I have to say was that my meal came out 10 minutes after the others, so I didn't eat with them, they were already done. My husband and I were passing through Grants, NM. We called and the lady that answered the phone was so helpful and nice. We've never been here before and hadn't seen a menu. We just ordered some tacos with beans and rice. The lady said it would be ready in 10mins. It was!! And the food was AMAZING! We will definitely stop in again when we are passing through. read more

Cozy restaurant with great food and service! The only negative that I would say is that the brown gravy on my mashed potatoes seemed to be instant. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly and tasted magical. They serve a good selection of beer and wine. I know this restaurant very well. I've had just about everything more than once. Recommend: Soups Their steak and cheese enchiladas are awesome and well priced. Fillet Mignon is excellent. If you're eating for lunch get the Southwest Turkey sandwich. It's got green chile and Avocado, awesome. Well priced. Apple crisp for desert. Never had the lobster but heard it's amazing. I had the ribeye cooked medium rare, it was cooked perfectly. I had to put a little salt on it but it had great flavor other than that. The ribeye was a great cut of meat, no gristle and just the right amount of fat. My son had the sheep herders plate, it was delicious, just make sure you like heat. My wife had the filet mignon and she rarely finishes her plate but her plate was clean this time. Our salads were very crisp and fresh delicious. Service was A+. Honestly from out of town (Texas) make it a point to visit steak houses and see different cultures and how they prepare my favorite dish and this met my standards to say the least don't give reviews and I am naturally very picky but in this case couldn't be happier with my service and meal. Trying to eat healthy, I had the soft grilled chicken tacos, and they were delicious. The chicken was moist and tender, and everything was flavorful. For a little town that doesn't look like it would offer much more than a Denny's, this place was pretty good. I ordered chicken fajitas, which were hot and pretty tasty, but basic. Certainly not particularly memorable. My husband had the Sheepherder burrito and it was cold in the middle. The sauce over the top was hot, but that's probably because they put it under the salamander or in the oven to melt the cheese. He ate some and then the rest of my chicken. It wasn't bad, but we won't be rushing to return. We did not have steak or anything "American" so I can't speak to that. I will advise not to order the Spanish rice. I was passing through Grant on a motorcycle ride from Phoenix to Cleveland, OH and stopped here for the night. Many good reviews on Yelp led me to try this place. I had the Dinner Steak with 3 large Shrimp. It was Excellent! Very tender 7 oz steak perfectly cooked to Med-Rare. Expertly done by a Japanese cook who knew what he was doing. The cooked Shrimp came with a very nice, tangy cocktail sauce... homemade? Yes! I highly recommend this place. Yes, dinner came with a very large, fresh salad... try it with some Blue Cheese crumbles on top! read more

A find that is off the beaten track. La Ventana is a welcome dinner destination in a small town. The fillet was cooked to perfection in the bank potato was hot and steamy and loaded with everything. The steam broccoli, which I added, was wonderful as well. I sat at the bar and carried a wonderful conversation on with Terry the bartender who was exceptional and giving spot on service. Whenever you're in New Mexico due West from Albuquerque stop in and enjoy a wonderful steak and the scenery as well as the hiking here in grants New Mexico. read more

Dark, dimly lit, almost a 60s feel if it were not for the 4 flat screen TVs, Rib eye was good, French fries soggy ( even though I asked for them to be crispy), dinner rolls light and crisp, salad seemed to be out of a bag . But it IS Grants NM, so all in all it's not bad. Just not great. Except the beer . The 23 oz glass of Beer is fantastic after a long day. Service is excellent. Nice mix of locals and travelers. Apple crunch dessert was underwhelming. Flat, undercooked, and overshadowed by the scoop of vanilla ice cream. For $5 I would have been better off stopping at Dairy Queen on the way back to the hotel. 2 beers, ribeye, and dessert for $40 without tip. I think that I will go somewhere else next time. read more

First class steakhouse in Grants, believe it or not. Passing through last week we found the most incredible Chinese restaurant here ( I'll let you look that one up yourselves, you won't regret it) and heading back home today, we couldn't get to the Chinese place because of a parade of some sort. I looked up a second restaurant , and found another diamond. My ribeye was just right, the wife's filet was perfect, and the service and ambience were spot on. This was certainly a 4 star restaurant. This is really hidden behind other businesses. Good things: the staff is very efficient and friendly. They do want to please you. Bad things: I can only report on my meal so here it is. I ordered a chicken taco meal and their artichoke spinach dip. The dip was really good! The tacos not so much! I expected home made tortillas fried (I ordered the crisp shell) and what I got were those hard shells you buy in the store in the box! The rice was instant rice that had been sitting around for a while ( I didn't even try that or the beans that looked like they came right out of the can). And I ended up with just tortilla chips to start off because everything else was spicy! I'm not a fan of spicy but I can take a mild salsa etc. I give it a 3 only because of the staff. read more

After a very long drive and late!! We decided to stop at a local favorite. It is an older place but ambiance and service was nice!! We chose to have the spinach & artichoke dip which came with baguette bread which was very good! 2 glasses of wine and hubby had a 25 oz amber ale.Both were a great and relaxing way to end our day! In any other town, I don't think I'd give this place 4 stars but for Grants.... it's not bad. Like the other review said it's about as classy as it gets. It was a little more expensive than I would have thought. Growing up in Southern California, I've eaten at my fair share of nice restaurants so for my Chicken Piccata to be $15, I thought it was a bit on the pricey side. The meal included a salad, which was a thin bed of lettuce with one slice bell pepper-- no frills. The have a full bar which is a plus. My husband had the spicy shrimp pasta dish, he said he liked it. All in all, this is the best you'll get in Grants so I would recommend it. read more

Had lunch with a friend here yesterday it had been a while since we eat there. She ordered guacamole as a appetizers and a entree. The entree was $8.50 the guacamole was $10.50. Asked the waitress if that was correct and she said yes. Talk about pricey. My friend ordered the prime rib which was on the menu a few minutes later our waitress came back and said that they didn't have any prime rib. Also the service was mediocre at best. At the recommendation of the hotel desk clerk we tried La Ventana. Earlier in the day I had scoped out the town and to be honest it was looking like KFC or MCD was our only viable choices. Regardless, we tried La Ventana. What a delight! Because we didn't have reservations we had to sit at the bar which is always my first choice anyway. The service was wonderful as was the food. We both chose Tex-Mex but the steaks were wonderful as well. The bar was very well stocked with my wife's favorite wine at the lowest price I'd ever seen. We both ate, had two glasses of wine and two beers and spent only $50, including tax! This is a must stop for anyone spending the night in Grants or perhaps even passing through. read more
