    Single Hung Window
    Joe S.

Ordered Windows, no install. Will not be a returning customer! First interaction: Customer Service for me has been above and beyond. Owner Luis has been in the business for many years as I found out while he was explain the pros and cons of the different types of windows. Willing to answer any questions and help with any issues that you may forsee with your project. Pricing was midrange compared too a few other estimates I received. Due to COVID, window arrival is expected to be delayed a bit so make sure you order accordingly. Once I receive my windows I will add to my review on how that portion of my experience was. After ordering experience: Customer Service: 1 of 5 Poor Communication So it was a mission getting my windows. They esitimated 2 weeks which turned into 3 weeks. Which I figured there may be delays due Covid. What I did not like was that they could not give me a straightforward answer on when the windows would be available for pickup and he will contact the manufacturer and than give me a call back. I got no callback. This caused issues with scheduling other jobs being on my house. Finally, I received a call telling me that my windows were in but that there's an issue. One of the 10 windows I ordered was too large to make and it didn't not arrive. Which of course pissed me off. I was really confused that we are barely figuring this out three weeks after I placed my order. I thought with the owners 35 years of experience he would of told me it was not possible or the manufacturer would of informed him from the beginning. The owners simple solution was to give me my money back...which you would think is great. I didnt feel that was an option for me since I just received 9 windows and would hate to have one window that may come out looking different than the rest. So I told him that would not be an option. I need to get the other window from the same manufacturer. He said that the only other option is we make the window smaller. I was upset because there will be additional costs for me o have the window opening resized. But frustrated so I went ahead with that option to move along with getting my window. Ask him how could we get the window expedite the window. He told me that he would call me later to inform me of the new delivery date. No call that day, I had to call him the next day to find out what was the status. He told me one week. I was fine with that since it had took 3 weeks for the other window's to come in. This was a lie. It took two weeks to receive the final window. Window Quality: 4 of 5 I was satisfied with the windows I received. One of the latches seems to be getting loose after opening a few times. I had thought the windows were scratched but it was only glue. Wish the company would have cleaned the windows prior to giving them to me.

The door was hard to slide, didn't seal properly, and clearly needed more than a quick repair. From the first visit, the team was straightforward and honest about what could be fixed versus what made more sense to replace. No pressure, no upsells. Scheduling was easy, they showed up on time, they worked clean and efficiently. The install itself went smoothly, and the difference was immediate. The new sliding door glides effortlessly, seals tight, and feels solid. No rattling, sticking, or gaps. Communication was great the whole time: they explained the issue clearly, walked through the replacement options, and followed through exactly as promised. If you're dealing with a sliding door that's past its prime and want it handled right the first time, this is a company you can trust.

Summary: This company does truly care about customer satisfaction. As David and Tom told me after…read morethings went awry: "We don't always get it perfect, but when we don't we try hard to make it right." I reached out to start the quote process a little before Thanksgiving and was quickly responded to. I scheduled a Zoom-based overview of the materials and services offered with David, as well as provided some information about my property and the windows that I thought I'd need to have replaced. The next step involved David visiting my home to measure each of the windows and assess their surroundings when putting together an estimate. He even brought a floor model window for me to test the ease of sliding it open and closed (it was very easy). Next, he provided me a quote for the six windows we had identified replacing, which included a Black Friday discount. The total was around $5k for materials and labor. I ended up swapping one window for another and he quickly updated the estimate for me. No pressure or need for down payment. After consulting with my wife, we agreed to move forward and the next step was for a technician to come and measure the windows to a quarter inch so that the dimensions would be sent off to the SoCal manufacturer and the windows constructed over the next 2-4 weeks. The technician also assessed the surrounding area of each window and told me what would need to be cleared to make space for the installation. Soon we got a call that the windows were built and ready to install. We were scheduled for first thing on Saturday, Dec 27, and were told that it would take most of the day but all of the work would be completed in the one day. On Saturday morning, Frank the installer arrived with another installer and got to work. We had moved lots of items away from the windows as needed, and throughout the day we saw the technicians as they would traverse the stairs and through the front door with materials, occasionally saying "hi" and just checking on how things were going. Later in the afternoon, Frank called me up for a walkthrough and then informed me he had two major problems: 1. All six windows measured were such that they required spacers around them to fill gaps that were visible on the inside. For some reason, they were not ordered initially. 2. Only five of the windows had been sealed from the outside because one window had a tree encroaching on it and they couldn't get a ladder up to seal it. Neither of the two visits had noted that. Tom was called and apprised of the situation at the end of the walkthrough, and with a new storm a few days away and one window not sealed, I went into panic mode. I emailed a full recounting of the situation to David, and began hunting for a tree trimmer to come ASAP so that the window could at least be sealed or the old window reinstalled before the rains. The next day, Tom called me and told me they were ordering the spacers and would have them by Monday, and that Frank could come and trim the tree so that I wouldn't have to pay for a separate trimmer. We ended up scheduling for Tuesday, and Frank showed up solo to finish the job. He trimmed the tree and disposed of the materials, added the spacers and sealed everything remaining. When all was said and done, we were happy with the windows and the way the company worked to make it right (and on a tight schedule). We did have to keep everything in its temporary locations for another few days, and we did have to get vocal about our frustrations, but Smart Window Company finished the job and called to check in on us after to make sure everything was good. The next storm hit and we haven't had any issues yet. The product is solid, and the company cares where it matters.

We met with Mike (the owner) at his showroom who went through every option and provided clear details for the products we had to choose as well as the process from start to finish. We went with Mike's product recommdation, Anlin Windows, based on those details which was clearly the right choice. Mitch (the ops manager/job forman) came to our home at the appointed time, took the measurements and advised what we needed to do to assist in the installation process which was basically moving any large objects away from the windows, both inside and out. In fact, we were contacted every step of the way from the owners, office staff and field staff and advised of the progress of our order. We were notified of the windows arrival at thier warehouse 6 weeks later and set up an installation date. JC and Willy arrived on time and got started right away after thanking me for clearing thier work areas as thoroughly as I did after the intial walk through. They did an amazing job. They were courteous, clean, respectul, and completely professional in every way. They had every window plus a very large slider installed before the end of the day and once again complimented and thanked me making their work areas accessible and easy to work in. They also left every area they worked in cleaned up as if they were never there. A rarety these days! JC then provided me with some tips specfic to any potential screen door squeeks and advised me to apply something on the screen to prevent any accicdents in the form of me or anyone else walking through that screen. I used a couple of thin strips of duct tape. The windows/screens are obviously new and almost transparent. Especially after living with the previous extruded metal OG windows for as long as we did. He showed me the features of each window and door, explained how the locks worked on each and answered any questions I had. There was minor 1 hiccup. During the unpacking process of the windows, JC pointed out to me that 1 of windows would not be able to be installed as it arrived broken. Not the window itself but the top right corner of the exterior vinyl overlap. The damage was not seen at the warehouse as it was under the protective card board/plastic and must have happened during the shipping process from the factory. I know from experience these things happen and it is how they are reacted to that seperates the good companies from the bad. OCWE took care of it without hesitation and insisted I deduct $500 from the intial installation balance until the replacment was installed and the job completely finished. The replacement was rush ordered. I was told it would take 2 weeks to get it. I got a call extactly 2 weeks later and we set up the installation appointment. The final window was just installed in under 30 minutes by JC and Willy as I had requested they come back for the aformentioned reasons. My wife and I could not be more pleased and satisfied with the choices we made specific to the company, product, pricing and professionalism of every team, top down from sales, ops and installation. We would do it again in a heartbeat! I highly recommend OCWE for window/slider upgrades in every way and when you do, make sure you specifically request JC and Willy to install them. You will not be sorry!

I love the look of the windows, however I think I would just get a different brand in the future to save money, unless it was a very specific application. The pros vs cons for us are : Pros: --They have a window grid option to match the look of the grids on original wood windows. --The screens are the finest mesh that I've seen (therefore the easiest to see out of). --They did an aluminum wrap on the exterior wood window sills, which is great for durability. --Great customer service. --Great communication. --Great installation crew. Cons: --Defective grids. In our case, the grids on the windows were improperly mounted to ALL 3 windows, meaning that they either weren't straight, were misaligned, and/or had large gaps in the seams. They are now going to replace ALL 3 windows to fix this problem. --Windows (and sliding doors) feel "heavy" and therefore are harder to open/close than other brands. --Annoying sales tactics. Salespeople always attempt to make you feel like you're getting a discount/deal, but ultimately, they charge about 3X more than other brands/vendors. Example: 3 windows from them were about $15K, but 3 (larger) windows (Milgard brand) from another vendor were about $5K. (Both brands of windows have similar u-factor, solar heat gain coefficient, and visible transmittance numbers.) --They required 2 additional appointments, as compared to other vendors. One is to test for lead in the paint (due to age of our house), the other one is to have an inspector come by after the job. Inconvenient. --The inspector might go into other rooms of your house (that did not have any work performed), to check that your smoke alarms are up to code. --The nice aluminum wrap on our exterior window sills has a weird bend in one seam, and it doesn't match the other side, but it only matters if you care how it looks when standing up close.

I had a very frustrating experience with Renewal by Andersen. The representative came out to my…read morehouse and instead of giving me a straightforward quote, he spent a long time talking about the company, their history, and their products. The entire visit felt like a long sales presentation rather than someone actually trying to help with my window project. To make matters worse, he never even gave me a real quote. It was more like him saying the project would probably be around $60,000 for 15 windows and 2 sliders. There was no real breakdown or formal estimate, just a number thrown out there after all the talking. I had already received other quotes around $20,000 for similar work. When I mentioned that, the sales rep said that if someone is quoting $20,000 it must be cheap products that will not last more than six years. That sounded more like a scare tactic than an honest explanation. The most annoying part was at the end. I told him that it seemed like he did not even want to measure anything around my house and that it was fine if he just left. Instead of addressing that, he actually had the audacity to tell me that a survey would be coming and asked me to give him a 10 star review. After sitting through a long sales pitch, not even receiving a real quote, and then being asked for a perfect review, the whole experience felt like a complete waste of time. I simply wanted someone to come out, measure the windows, and give me a fair and honest price.
