Lunch in CDMX is always exciting with many options for theme and fare. Laca Laca is a "Dia de Muerte" (apologies in advance for any inaccuracies - I'm not local) themed restaurant that actually has 2 live trees growing inside and through the roof. It's kind of like the "Jungle Forest" meets "Tim Burton" inside, but all crafted to a very high level. Disney could take lessons from this place. We ordered some beef tacos, "steak tartare - like" dish and a huge, hot stone cauldron, bubbling with a mixed meat, seafood and cactus leaf grill. Lunch was served with fresh corn tortillas and green and red chili sauces (!). Everything was flavorful, fresh and delicious . Came to this place 4 years ago and left with a great experience. Fast forward to last night and it was less than subpar. It didn't seem like we had a server dedicated to our table. Just 3 staff members checking in on us every so often. We sat up top on the terraza. Drinks ordered at the beginning and never got asked if we wanted another. We ordered a Sopa Azteca that came out lukewarm. We asked to get it reheated. We ordered bone marrow that came out raw. Once we let the waiter know they recooked it. 25 min later with no refill on drinks and bone marrow delivered with already cold tortillas. We asked for the bill which took an additional 20 min. The girl waiter looked like she didn't want to be there and the 2 other servers looked uninterested. Definitely won't be coming back or recommending to anyone. Stopped in for drinks and appetizers and it did not disappoint. Whimsically decorated and in the heart of Coyoacan, we were pleasantly surprised by the food quality and choices. We sat in the courtyard which was perfect for our party of 5. We ordered Queso Fondido which was sprinkled with meat and sausage and served with fresh tortillas. We also ordered Bone Marrow with chapulines (fried crickets), served with tortillas. Fun to try, personally if the chapulines were finely chopped I would have enjoyed it a bit more... but those crunchy little critters were whole. All goes to the same place, I know... there's just something about it that made me shiver a bit. This was a perfect spot to grab some food, drinks, and share some stories before heading out to explore the rest of the town. It was not busy yet so the service could have been better. Stopped by in Laca Laca for a quick drink and a bite. This is a busy little spot in Jardin Centenario area with a lovely rooftop overlooking the main square of the neighborhood. Food was so so and then drink nothing to brag about but the view and the rooftop and atmosphere was great. Service was good as well. Fantastic restaurant in the center of Coyoacán. The mocaljete is probably the best I've had in the city and the guacamole con chapulines is phenomenal. The dining areas are quite open and it can get pretty loud on a busy weekend, tending to lend itself more to larger groups of people. read more

If you're ready to get immersed into a quirky and whimsical world filled with delicious food, nonstop live music and a fun ambience don't hesitate to visit La Calaca! We ordered the ribeye Molcajete, sparkling lemonades and gorditas filled with crunchy chicharrón. The food was excellent, the ribeye was tender and flavorful. Although the ribeye was the star of the show, the nopal (cactus) gets a notable mention! The gorditas were crispy and tortillas were soft! We ended the night with decaf cappuccinos and chocolate mousse which were both delicious. The mariachi played all the crowd favorites including, La Chona and La Puerta Negra. If you have to ask what those are, a simple Google search will lead you to hours of lively music el tío would play at the carne asada! We stumbled upon this place. I like to take credit for suggesting it but my posse will claim other wise. Anyways to the good stuff. This place was the bomb punto com. The food was so delicious. A great two story restaurant in the heart of Coyoacan! Ambiance/Service: The service staff is very friendly, the actual place is really neat with great decor, mariachi playing occasionally in the courtyard and a great vibe. The only thing i would complain about is the smoke. If you are sitting anywhere around the main courtyard, and there is something smoking, which it happened to us, you will definitely smell it as it lingers around the room. Just not a fan of smoke and it stinks that the best place in the entire restaurant is available to smoke in. There is an upstairs bar, which i wish that is the place where they would allow for smoke... Food/Drinks: The drinks here are very good and they have a wonderful selection. I just had a few small plates, so i cannot speak to their dinner, but the food I did try here was quite tasty. Would recommend to go here, but as mentioned, be careful about sitting next to the smoke if you are sensitive to it. read more

This place is very cool looking but the food was very bland and needed seasoning. The drink were very inexpensive but watered down. It a great place for some Instagram shots but not to eat. I suggest go inside, get some good photos of the skull bar and have some street food or go to the vendor booth building down the street and get some good tostadas. read more

Excellent place for drinks! The mezcal margarita is very good. Shots are poured at the table and come with sangrita shot. Complimentary veggies were refreshing. Staff was all very nice. I did not try the food. But where's bad food in Mexico??? Absolutely beautiful place. read more

We really wanted to like this place as local mentioned it had a good mixture of Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately this place failed to deliver on every dish we ordered. Case in point, dishes came late and cold, the preparation of them was far from authentic. What really took this review to one star was the terrible customer service, not just from the waiter that would keep getting upset when we asked him to reheat the cold food or uncooked meats he brought but also from the manager who finally came to us to ask if something was wrong. When we told him what the problem was he brought the check and tried to over charge us for food we did not even ordered and not taking responsibility for the mediocre service and quality they provided. Bottom line, Mexico City has hundreds of thousands of restaurants and in this area Coyoacán you can hands down find way better places than this. Do yourself a favor and do not make the same mistake, go to an authentic Mexican restaurant where the food and drinks are not only great but the customer service is up to par to what the consumer deserves. read more

The atmosphere and architecture were great but I didn't get a chance to try the food. We tried but the food never came out. The beers were cold and the alcohol selection was vast but the server didn't come over unless you tracked them down to take your order. I stopped by since the ceiling was screaming to me, so walked in and wow so pretty! Very unique scenery! I got the Torta Cochinita (Dirty Torta, 85 MXD) and enjoyed, it was sweet, and dressed with flavoring (it reminded me of a sloppy joe) and the lemonade (39 MXD) was amazing! It was with mineral water and freshly squeezed/sweetened! Recommend! The service wasn't the greatest (hence 4 stars) compared to other restaurants I've been to in the City! If you're in the Coyoacan area, I definitely recommend this spot, it'll be too hard to forget :) read more

The mezcalitas were awesome (mango was my favorite) we also tried the sopes, bone marrow with crickets, and the molcajete. The service was outstanding as well! We came here just for a drink cuz the decor looks awesome. We had no food so don't base this your food trip on this review. We found an AWESOME tequila that's served with Clamato. We ordered two more shots and asked to take a photo. When we told the waiter we thought it was awesome he topped up our new shot and poured a little extra to our current shot. Sweet! Also there's a band that plays live music. They came around asking if we had requests but we thought they were asking for tips. They kindly said no and said "welcome to Mexico"! read more

It was good. We arrived later on a Friday night without a reservation. We couldn't sit "outside" but we ended up with a "window" table which was fine. Our server didn't know much about wine but, it's Mexico, we get it. They were out of the bottle we initially wanted so we got something else, which was still delicious.
