My son is 5. He's never played sports but asked to learn how to play ice hockey so I signed him up for a group lesson with Lace 'Em Up, a prerequisite. I received a few reminders to be at the lesson. When we arrived on the correct date and time, we were told by the Ice Arena that Lace 'Em Up did not book a time with them so there would be no class. I left a few messages and became concerned when we did not hear back. But several days later Lace 'Em up did repeatedly apologize and seemed earnest (the class shouldn't have shown up as an option on the website). They are working on sending me a refund, and Lace 'Em Up genuinely wants to see my son skate, so we are figuring it out. Sounds like a great experience once you get in, but may be some hiccups along the way. read more

My daughter has been taking lessons for the last few weeks. Jill has helped her make the transition from roller skating to ice skating almost seamless! She looks forward to her weekly lesson and I look forward to her moving forward. read more

I LOVE Jill, she is such a powerhouse of fun and focus. My 6 year old loves skating and is amazingly good in a short time due to Jill's coaching. Best thing is that although she works so hard she is enjoying herself so much (due to Jill's enthusiasm) and now she is now incredibly strong with great stamina! My daughter started off with private lessons, and now she has both private lessons and group lessons (the group lessons are at the foothills rink on Old Kipling). Both options are excellent. Can't speak highly enough of her. She's one of those rare folks that are great at teaching both ice hockey and ice skating. And she got me skating in a really short time which is nothing short of miraculous! Great coach, great results read more

I signed up my son for the toddlers classes. They were advertised as using stability bars and having fun things on the ice to make it fun for them. Their site also stated that the kids would really enjoy the lesson. We went to two classes and neither one had any additional tools or fun things on ice. The second class involved having 6 kids with one instructor and my son spent a great deal of time without help. When I contacted the owner, I was informed that yes, they didn't do what was advertised and they were sorry, but there are no refunds. Bad business ethics are evident. I've recent'y contacted them again and asked for a partial refund at least and was refused EVEN though they admitted they didn't do what they advertised and promised. They have since changed their website. read more

Lace 'em up Skating works with skaters of all ages and skill levels, we also teach competitive figure skating, power skating for hockey players and recreational skating basics. Our goal as skating coaches is to give our skaters the knowledge, tools and connections they need to love skating and learn the sports discipline to go far in skating. We strive to redefine a 'skating lesson' experience with a balance of skill and fun at all levels. Skating is a lifelong sport that provides health and wellness, builds confidence, entertainment, camaraderie and fun for families.

History

Established in 2002.

Jill Mintz, Director and proprietary of Lace 'em up skating, started Lace 'Em Up Skating School in Minneapolis, MN in 2002. Jill built and managed Lace 'Em Up from 30 to 230 people before moving to Denver in 2009. For the last two years she has been building up her skating program in the Denver area. The Lace 'Em Up Skating school has a collective group of coaches that have between 5 and 25 years teaching and coaching experience.

Meet the Business Owner: Jill M.

Jill has 12 years of private coaching experience including 7 years of managing Lace 'Em Up Skating School in Minneapolis, MN. She is a Professional Skaters Association (PSA) certified coach, ISI Silver certified judge and currently a member of ISI, USFS, and PSA professional skating associations. In 2009 she moved to CO and currently runs Lace 'Em Up Skating School out of the Foothills Ice Arena in Lakewood, CO.

The facility was clean and the lifeguards seemed knowledgeable though not the friendliest. Neither was the front desk lady. One female lifeguard was friendly though. I understand rules for safety but one rule still has me baffled. My godson was using one of their floating devices in the lap pool and he was told only swimmers doing laps can use them. Not like anyone was doing laps and I didn't see any harm using it. The price was great as well. For my children ages 5, 8, and 10 was $12.00 for an all day pass. .

Based on that, we trusted the process. Then communication from Lily and Aiden completely stopped. For three straight weeks, multiple follow-ups were ignored. When Lily, the Chief of Staff, finally responded, there was zero accountability for the lack of communication. Instead, the response was dismissive and defensive. At that point, we were told our son could play--but not on the team we were originally assured wouldn't be an issue. By then, the opportunity for him to play with his friends was already gone. This wasn't a complicated situation--it was simply handled poorly from start to finish. The lack of responsiveness, organization, and basic professionalism is unacceptable, especially for something involving kids. The entire experience felt careless and poorly managed. If you're a parent considering this organization, don't rely on what you're told upfront and be prepared for little to no communication when it actually matters.

Our daughter, Sima, started with Jill Mintz at Foothills Ice Arena in Lakewood, Colorado during November with Lace 'Em Up Skating. Sima was stork legs and truly a beginner. Jill worked with our daughter constantly giving her high-fives with smiles and cheers of encouragement. Not only did our daughter look forward to going to Jill's ice skating classes BUT BELIEVE IT OR NOT, Sima is now skating with Jill as a personal coach and is skating in Colorado competitions. Before we found Jill, we signed up our daughter for other ice skating classes in other programs with different instructors only to be disappointed and our daughter constantly declaring she did not want to continue or go to these classes. Truly the other instructors did not value our daughter and did not really teach much of anything...quite a frustration!! BUT our reality has changed completely with Jill. She values our daughter and treats her as if she is really capable; teaching her skills and is interested in her progression. Jill is a wonderful communicator keeping us, Sima's parents, in the loop concerning her ice skating. i went to a few classes with Jill and then i helped her teach her skating school for a few times. She is my private coach and I absolutely love her!! Ive skated for about 7 years and i know a good coach from a bad coach. Jill knows so much about her job and she takes it to her heart. Her school is amazing! It not only teaches the basic skills but it also goes up to higher levels as well. When i helped her teach i worked with a few girls on beginning jumps! Jill has a very upbeat and joyfull attitude that makes her a joy to be around!! She knows so much about skating and will ehlp you with any needs or questions you have. Jill has been working with my daughter for about six months now. My daughters first time on skates was with Jill. The coach/student relationship they have built is outstanding. I've been skating more than half my life as a hockey player, and my four and a half year old daughter is learning to do things I could never do. I've watched Jill with other kids. They all seem to be progressing in a similar manner. Jill really knows how to relate to kids to build a good coach/student relationship and then break down the skating skills in a manner that kids can grasp. My daughter who is three & I started ice skating lessons last winter w/ Jill Mintz. Her positive attitude and knowledge made it a joy to go to every lesson.
