Kimmswick is always a vibe. Like if a Hallmark movie and your grandma's Pinterest board had a baby and opened 37 bakeries and craft stores. It's all wooden signs, smells like cinnamon, and every other shop sells soap, socks, or something shaped like a pumpkin. I treat the whole place like one big porch-swing of a town with snacks. Le Chance Winery for dinner when I can. That's my go-to pit stop when I'm done pretending I might buy a decorative birdhouse. Tonight's a girl dinner! A chaotic masterpiece: shrimp salad (shrimp = protein = health), zucchini fries (green = health again), French fries (balance), and a pile of cheese because I'm not a quitter. read more

Stopped in for lunch after an afternoon of shopping the Christmas markets. I'd give this place a 3.5 but am rounding up to a 4. I'll begin with the bad: the cheese board for $17 was a huge let down. You may be able to tell from the picture that the sliced cheese was hard on the edges like it was old or hadn't been properly stored. I was shocked they'd serve serve old cheese like that when they must have noticed the hard edges while plating..on the disposable plastic plate. This felt more like something someone threw together for a work potluck than something served at a winery. My fried also ordered fried pickle chips & I had one and stopped there. The fried breading was overwhelming salty. You know you're in for a salty dish with pickles anyway, but this was next level. It made me glad we didn't order anything else from the fryer. On to the good - I actually loved the glass of dry rosé I had. I was skeptical since I haven't had a lot of Missouri wines that I've been impressed with, but this is a keeper. My two friends and I all ordered sandwiches with fries or chips and all enjoyed them and felt the serving sizes were generous. The only negative comment about the sandwiches we all shared were that they were all heavy on the sauce. My advice would be to ask for sauce/dressing on the side. We all had enough to take home leftovers. Our server was very busy but attentive considering the number of tables she was working. The inside was cute and cozy and you definitely feel the history of the building. Overall, I would come back here for a glass of rosé and a sandwich- skip the apps! read more

My annual ornament exchange always meets in Kimmswick and usually at another restaurant, but I waited too long to make a reservation. I called LaChance to see if I could get a reservation there and was told they don't take reservations- even for a large party. I was very frustrated but planned on arriving ahead of my group to secure a table. Luckily, that is exactly what was able to happen. Our large group of 15 was able to get a back table/room off to the side to ourselves which was perfect. Our food was good and service was great. We all enjoyed ourselves and plan on going back for the event next year. Hopefully they will take a reservation then to ensure a 5 review. read more

Loved everything this historical and charming winery!!Every person in this establishment was delightful and accommodating!! My husband had an old fashioned (very hard to find at a winery so he LOVED that) Both our drinks were great and service was spectacular as well!!! Make sure you stop in! The ambiance is lovely, what a beautiful building! We sat inside but I'm sure the outside is great too. Semi-sweet wine was too sweet to finish, but my tablemates seemed happy with their selections. Chicken salad was gorgeous but was incredibly dry and lacked flavor. It was missing listed ingredients. Sweet potato fries were really good. Our poor waitress seemed overwhelmed by a 7 top, I felt really bad for her. They had live music in a different area and if Im in town I may come back to sample other wines and enjoy the ambiance but the general consensus on the food was negative. read more

Came here for my moms 70th birthday. Had a group of 11 people. Chose outdoor seating because they had a band playing from 1-4, who was amazing. Wine wise. They were completely out of Chardonnay. They were also out of their California Cabernet. Their Missouri Crimson Cabernet was listed as dry. I ordered a bottle of this since they were out of the California bottle. I would consider it semi-sweet. It was very difficult to drink. Couldn't finish it. Ended up ordering the NAPA Cabernet Reserve. This was a good dry wine. But not worth the price of $49. Beer and wine are only available for purchase outside. If you want anything else you have to go inside. They had servers outside but we were told they were short staffed. We ended just just ordering at the outside bar. A server never came to our table or provided water. Water is also only available for purchase by bottle outside so we had to walk inside to get a glass of water each time during this hot summer day. Food wise. Smaller menu offered outside. Offer a lot more food for inside patrons. I am only commenting on the outside menu, as I sat outdoors. Ordered the chicken bacon ranch wrap and stoned Sicilian flatbread. They were out of regular fries so I ordered sweet potato fries as my side option. All three items were very small potions. The flatbread is a personal pizza size. The fries were clumped together as if they were thrown into the frier straight from the freezer. Another patron in our party ordered the Ruben and the pulled pork. They were much more pleased with their food, so I'd suggest ordering a sandwich. Also, they were using the same numbers on different buzzers so two parties would show up to the outside bar to pick up their food, when only one parties food was ready. I have eaten here a few times. The ambience is great, especially in the winter when there is a fire going In the fireplace. It's nice and cozy. We usually get a glass of wine with our meal. This time we decided to get the flight. You get four 2 ounce pours for $12. It's a good way to try the different wines but I'm not sure I would get that again because you sure did not get much. It looked more like 1 ounce to me. It was barely a drink of each wine. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich with a side salad. I have ordered the chicken salad sandwich before and it was delicious. This time, not so much. The croissant was stale. I only ate about half of it and the chicken salad didn't have much taste. Maybe it was just an off day because I have had it before with no issues. My friend ordered the burger. She always loves the burger from here. She had a side Caesar salad with hers and said it was really good. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. They have a little wine bar area here if you want to just come in and try their wines without a meal. You can surely just pop in and buy a bottle of wine as well. In the summertime, they have a really nice patio and usually have a band on the weekends which can be quite a fun time. I will be back but the next time I will order the Cuban sandwich. We visited LaChance for lunch on a Saturday, so we were not surprised that it was busy. I'm giving it 4 stars just because the atmosphere and the food was good. If you decide to visit, understand you will wait for your server. We got there at 11 and because of slow service didn't leave until 3. I didn't give 5 stars because : 1. Three of the people at our table decided to share a bottle of wine. They ask to taste two flavors and the waitress only brought one glass with each of the two wines making the three to have to drink after each other. 2. I asked for more of the sauce that came on the bun of my grilled chicken sandwich two times. I had to stop eating the sandwich because it would have been gone if I waited for the sauce. It was also different than the sauce that was on the sandwich. Still it's nice and convenient to go to a winery closer to home. The band was great. read more

Please do not stop by if you want anything to eat! It's so bad it's laughable - they have flatbreads that you'd think wow that sounds like it would go great with wine. Well no. It's mushy dough no nice crisp crunch and it's absolutely covered in what I can only assume are Kraft singles. Their wine is okay but there are far better places to stop. read more

Unique historic atmosphere in cute downtown with lots to shop or eat. Friendly. Very very slow to get a soup, salad & flatbread with almost empty dining rooms. The wine tasting room was crazy busy so not sure if they were short handed. We weren't drinking so for a simple ordered it seemed slow. We sampled one wine and got bottles for Xmas gifts before we sat. We'd stop again as it's a good stopping point to visit family. Like it's locally made. read more

Terrible service and only average food! Reservations for 5:30pm on Saturday evening. Promptly seated in front dining room where another couple was eating. At 5:45 I went back to hostess and asked about a waitress. Nearly immediately someone came in, checked on the other table and walked out right past us without the slightest acknowledgment. She did return a few minutes later and we ordered drinks and the cheese curds. A few minutes later she brought drinks and we ordered dinner. At 6:30 I went in search of a manager. We had not seen our waitress nor our appetizer and adjacent table that came in after us had finished their appetizers (different server). At 1:15 we were brought our meals, one which was plated wrong. The peach sangria was amazing and we would have ordered more - had she ever checked on us. My Baja fish tacos were good, nothing special. My wife loved her chicken cordon blu but paired with the risotto was too rich. The 3rd party had a very dry pork steak and was missing a side. Bread pudding and cheesecake was very average. The gooey butter cake was the highlight. Other tables with different servers were being served promptly so it was not a lack of staff nor did there seem to be any delays from the kitchen. An hour and 42 minutes for average food. The food was awful. No joke. Don't order the wrap. It's basically a pre-made frozen wrap that takes 30 mins for them to bring to you probably because they have to thaw it out. It comes cold as in the lettuce still had that frost taste to it. Better wraps at your local 7-11. Waste of money. Have witnesses to verify! Gross. Super disappointed. No one ever asked how was your meal or how is everything or else I would have shared in person. I'll just never return. read more

Today was overwhelming for the staff, they were short handed, but instead of noticing the staff never stopped and gave their best. The one who wrote the horrible review was so rude and demeaning to the waitress. This is my first and last time there. It took 2 hours to eat. It took 30 minutes to get a waitress after we were seated. There were only two waitresses working and we were understanding. As soon as the waitress arrived, she apologized and said it's been crazy busy, again we understood. We put our order in immediately. We waited 30 more minutes before she returned. She told us she forgot to put one order in but asked if we wanted our other food while we waited and we said yes. She said she'd be right back. 30 minutes later, the entire food order arrived. Our food was cold, but the forgotten order was hot. She didn't bring any condiments, napkins, water, etc. I had to go to the bar to ask for these things because it took so long to get her to return. 30 minutes later, she came to try and fill our water glasses but we told her we had to leave and wanted the bill right away. Luckily, she brought it. She didn't ask us how the service was but we did mention that our food was cold. We asked why she didn't bring our food sooner like she said she would. She then made an excuse that it was another table's order and not ours and she got confused. Then why was our food cold? Instead of apologizing, she kept making excuses. We understand she's busy but they could have mentioned they were short staffed from the beginning. Also, other tables were getting their food before ours so I think we were just forgotten about. I think we were extremely patient. Most people would not have waited as long as we did. read more

It was an unseasonably cool day in August so we decided to head out to the winery for some drinks, music and food. The patio set up is really nice. Tables are clean and there's a nice cover. The duo providing music were pretty good. Really good considering it's free. We chose one of their wines. It drank well and was a fair price. Then we ordered food. We decided on the cheese tray. The cheese was good but for the price there wasn't much of it. And the sausage was only 4 bite sized pieces. It could have been much better. All in all it was a nice way to spend a few hours on a Sunday. read more

LaChance recently opened evenings for dinner. Located in the historic "Old House," Kimmswick now has an evening destination And it's certainly one worth visiting. With a great selection of their own and California vintage wines. We had the Cabernet. The grapes/juice are from California and LaChance makes it into wine. It was wonderful! Along with the wine, we started the evening with a Martini, up, dirty. It came as expected, quite good. Our dinner selection was Swordfish for myself and Tuscan chicken for my wife. The entrees come with a salad and choice of two sides. The salads were fresh with a tasty mix of lettuce. My Caesar was great The dressing was very tasty. My only complaint was the dressing quantity was a bit excessive. Next time I will order it on the side. The Swordfish came with Risotto, green beans, and cherry tomatoes in a delicious mix and a presentation to match any 5 star restaurant! My wife's Tuscan chicken received similar reviews from her. They tasted as good as they looked! We finished the evening with Bread Pudding and Cheesecake. Excellent! All in this was one of the finest meals I have had in a long time. We did not try the steak but the menu features an excellent selection. Saving that for next time; which will be very soon My opinion is this is definitely one of the very best restaurants in Jefferson County and will challenge any of the top contenders in the Metro area. read more

What a fantastic and unique experience. We were with a party of 6 and everyone enjoyed their dish. The fried tomatoes were fantastic and I had the Tuscan chicken which was cooked to perfection. Terrible service and cold food! After we were seated, it took her over 20 minutes to acknowledge us. We told her at that point that we were ready to order. About 45 minutes after we ordered our food and appetizers, she came over and said they forgot to put in my son's order and do we want her to bring out the rest of the food and appetizers . We said yes. Another 20 minutes later, she brought everything out; the appetizers and food. Our food was cold (except for our son's). My daughter had to go in and ask for condiments because our server didn't offer us any and when we did ask for mayo, it took forever to get it. Not once did she ask how our food was.
