We purchased these shoes for my daughter for $380. Do not waste your money! She is a serious dancer and performer and we were very excited to purchase these shoes and she continues her career. After wearing them for two weeks the soul is beginning to separate and the leather is tearing on the toes. I bought black can-can boots two weeks ago in-store for a show I'm doing. I have used the boots 10 times in total for the shows and the toe of the shoe is already separating from itself. I'm doing simple movement in the show that doesn't require going over the toe or stretching the shoe in a crazy way, so this should not have happened. Clearly, the shoes are not made at the same quality as they once were. I have several pairs from 8+ years ago, and not one of them was defective like this. I went into the store with my pair this morning, receipt in hand, hoping to get a single replacement boot or some sort of repair. The male manager I met with immediately blamed me for my "misuse" of the shoe, explaining over and over that it was my fault for "wearing the shoe in improperly." As I mentioned, I have several pairs of Laduca heels from years ago that have never worn like this - I know the process for caring for a leather dance shoe and have followed the steps to carefully break them in by wearing them. The manager accused me of breaking the shoe by "going over the toe," which I have not had to opportunity to do in these shoes yet because of how new they are. I told the manager that I haven't been to a dance class with the shoes where I could go over the toe, and that my show's choreography is not complex enough for the shoe to break like this. He then accused me of lying and said that "the wear of this specific shoe tells me that's not true." His annoyance with my story & broken shoe could not have been clearer, but I continued to ask what there was to do. He shrugged off complaint and begrudgingly gave me the number to a cobbler he knew (he wouldn't give me the contact for the Laduca cobbler). I paid over $300 for a pair of shoes that didn't even last me 3 weeks. It was really a bummer to be treated this way after the holidays, especially because these shoes were a gift to myself I had saved up for. I have had 2 horrible customer service experiences with online orders through LaDuca. 1) I placed an order for my tap shoes but was never informed by LaDuca that they were out of stock (the website never said they were out of stock and I didn't receive any correspondence) so after waiting 3 weeks, I emailed them and they said it would be another month until I received them. I would have purchased through a different shoe company since it was for a show I was in and that is an unacceptable amount of time especially with their high shipping rates! These shoes were also different color in leather and texture which is such poor quality control... I should have learned my lesson. 2) My most recent interaction with LaDuca was when I had a pair of shoes with the elastic that wore down after a week of wearing the shoes in a show. They were very rude and condescending when I sent photos and blamed the shoes on being too short in length when I never sent photos of me standing up in them. I then sent them photos of me standing up in them and they took back their blame on the length and instead focused on them being too narrow, which I can tell you they do not feel narrow and are the wide width. They tried to put the blame on the sizing when I'm a firm believer it's the quality of the elastic and quality control - considering my other interactions with the company. When the elastic wears down that quickly it's usually a sign of old elastic, not the width. According to the fit guide from their website "When someone first puts the shoe on you want a snug fit in the width and toes to lie flat and reach the end of the shoe. The shoes loosen up as they are worn. Creasing across the toe box indicates the need for a wider width in the shoe. The shoes should be snug but not tight, LaDuca shoes should never start off painful but there should be no additional length in the shoe." My shoes were never painful, there is no creasing, and they were snug but not tight. I understand what snug feels like because I'm between a regular and wide shoe in normal shoes but these felt great. LaDuca doesn't back up their quality. These were my dream shoes and not cheap so I'm heartbroken to have had these interactions with LaDuca. I felt personally targeted by them in their emails and it's unfortunate that I had these interactions after hearing so many good things about them... read more

Didn't get her name, but the employee who helped me was so nice and helpful despite my only being there to shop the sale section. I live in Los Angeles, so I could not go to the store and try the shoes on in person. I ordered the Alexis shoes a half size larger than my street size, and they are incredibly tight. I have emailed twice about figuring out my correct size and nobody has answered. I am giving two stars until someone can help me find my correct size. So far their customer service is not great. So my rating is because of the shoes and their quality, but before I get into that, my experience in the store in NY. So I've had Capezio's for years and I loved them, but after learning a few years ago they changed the toe box to a much more narrow one, I couldn't get them anymore. So now, with my current career of being a Flight attendant, I did a lot of research and decided since I'm in NY to go try on a bunch of styles to see which one would a) fit and b) be right for my career and that would last me awhile. My research landed me on LaDuca's since all of the Broadway musicals use them. My thought process was if a broadway dancer can dance in them for up to three hours or more a day, then I could definitely use them for hours in an airport and on the plane. So I went to the store in Manhattan to try on sizes and different styles. Now I was impressed walking in because these are the shoes that I see in so many musicals on Broadway and being a huge theatre nerd, I was geeking out. Well that was cut short when the guy who was greeted me, asked what I was looking for and started pulling sizes for me to try. Looked like he was bored and that I was asking for too many sizes and to try them on and I felt like I was being a burden. So I tried a few more sizes and two more styles on but wasn't sure how I felt because it is really hard to test them on a moving piece of carpet (they lay it out for you to test the shoes so you don't ruin the soles but I couldn't walk properly to see if they would work, kind of kept slipping. In the end, as much as I wanted to buy the shoes that I decided on, which were the Alexis pair at that time, the associate's attitude kind of turned me off completely. So I ended up going a little further down the road to look at Capezio and had a much better experience with two of the girls there. Still determined at some point to get LaDucas, so maybe another time. read more

LaDuca shipped shoes quickly but UPS lost them for 5 days. I need them immediately. The sizing is too small. They will not let me pay another $250 and reimburse me when I return. Instead they say sure I can buy a second pair, but they will only give me store credit for the first pair (so now I am paying $250 plus original shipping and another $250) and I have to pay overnight return and reshipping. Sarah the manager laughed when I expressed my frustration and asked for her last name. I have read the other reviews here and any complaints are about service. Horrible attitude. These character shoes are industry standard in musical theater. If you're going to have to take class or audition in heels, these are a good investment. They are expensive, but impeccably made. If you find that the flexible Bloch character shoes are falling apart too quickly, or the solid Capezio character shoes don't really allow for good movement (or feel clunky), this is the next step for you. I would really recommend being fitted for shoes in the store, rather than ordering online if possible. I would also recommend only wearing these if you're training your feet to be strong by taking class on a weekly basis. The flexible character shoes require strength, and they don't prop you up like a street shoe (heel) does. If you are going to use these shoes for theater that does not require much dancing, get one of the non-flexible models. You'll get much more support and your feet/legs/ankles won't be as tired after wearing them. If you don't take class regularly, throwing yourself around in flexible character shoes could cause injury. The shoes break down faster if you wear them barefoot instead of with stockings. After I got my first pair of laducas, I ordered a 6-pack of nylon footie socks off amazon to keep in my bag because I don't like taking class in tights. They help. LaDuca will take custom orders. They made me shoes for my wedding. For about a hundred bucks of surcharge on top of the standard listed price, they'll let you order any of the stock models (NOT bespoke design) in a different color of leather (there were at least 30 on the sample card they showed me, including a bunch of different metallic shades). If I'm going to pay $300-400 for wedding shoes, as people seem to do with Jimmy Choos and such, I'd like them to fit perfectly and I'd like to be able to wear them to class afterwards. Because I knew I'd be on my feet all day for my wedding, I ordered the Angelique (non flexible) model in bright silver. Depending on their workload, it can take a while to get the shoes back from the factory in Italy, but mine showed up in about a month. Your mileage may vary. I have had good experiences stopping into the store during the day, when they are less busy. I am a costume designer for theatre, film & television and in the past have purchased pairs in store for my actors, WITHOUT them being there. On occasion I need to do an exchange but for the most part everything has fit like a glove-going off the basis of my actors previous Laduca shoes. My theatre owned several pairs of Laduca boots that I tried on my #1 actress, they fit like a glove and she wore them for several 10 hour rehearsal days with no complaints. I went to the store to purchase the EXACT same boot, same size, same everything. I just aesthetically wanted a fresh pair. When I arrived I asked to have my actress looked up in the system just out of curiosity/to double check size info. Her last pair was a character shoe purchased 4 years ago and was one full size down. The associate explained how that was strange that I was asking for a full size bigger because their boots are typically cut larger. I actually appreciate the explanation but the part I take issue with is after I explained that my actress is literally at that exact moment wearing the exact size I requested, she continued to insinuate that I was wrong in my request. This went on for several minutes making both my assistant and the other sales associate visually uncomfortable. I do not understand why I was practically being refused the sale of a high priced boot because I was "mistaken" with the size info. Worst case I could exchange assuming the shoes are unworn. For the future it does not make sense for a customer to be repeatedly questioned about their purchase based on their knowledge. read more

I had the chance to purchase a pair of LaDuca shoes at a boutique here in San Francisco. They are not dance shoes, rather fashion shoes but they have that fantastic LaDuca look. I was apprehensive about the price but when I learned about LaDuca shoes, I purchased them. I must say they are the best shoes I have ever had. They are comfortable, wear incredibly well and are like slippers for me as I run to catch the bus downtown on foggy cold mornings. I'm a professional MT actor who's been wearing these shoes for years. They're absolutely the best, hands down. Ive never been in store before though and have always purchased online. This week i had some time free and was in the city so i decided to stop in to buy 2 pairs of shoes I've been needing. Unfortunately my experience was very uncomfortable. I was "greeted" by a male employee who pretty much acted like he couldn't be bothered and seemed almost skeptical of me. He was very short, cold, and unfriendly. I tried to warm up the experience a bit by being friendly and asking things like "how do you think they look/what do you think of the shape or color on me" and each time he gave cold, one word, and seemingly disgenuine responses. I purchased both shoes, thinking maybe when he realized i was actually buying the shoes and not wasting his time that he'd warm up... But same attitude at the register. I understand bad days and the world of working retail on our attitudes...but when someone is dropping over $650 on two pairs of luxury shoes in one sitting, I'd expect a little bit more warmness, friendliness and hospitality in the selling process. I live about as far from NYC as one can be and still be in the USA so I had to place an order online for character shoes as a gift. Given the price and no return policy, I was a little hesitant but there was no need to be. I received fabulous customer service with a follow up phone call, email, and tracking information. When I had to exchange the shoes (this is allowed as long as they are not worn and still in new condition), I again received great service with a follow-up phone call verifying they received the shoes for exchange and checking to make sure the new shoes were sent to the correct address and were the shoe desired and in the correct size. Service was prompt. The staff I spoke with each time were polite and helpful. Hoping the shoes wear and fit as good as the purchasing experience has been. I called and ordered a pair of LaDuca character shoes from this store. They are 3" Elizabeth, in beige. They are simply breathtaking. I was given excellent advice from the woman I spoke with on the phone ( I *think* her name was Sarah) about sizing. She also gave me her perspective on the two different styles I was contemplating (Elizabeth v. Rachelle). I will say that I was pretty well-prepared with my questions, having done much research in advance. I knew I was going to buy a pair of LaDucas that day, it was just a matter of making sure I got the perfect size and style. My nutshell thoughts to anyone truly on the fence about forking over the cash: If dancing (well) in character shoes is important to you, figure out a (legal!) way to buy them. We have purchased two pairs of shoes online. The first buying experience was great with no problems. The second purchase was just a mess. I bought shoes online just like the last time but the shipping department put the wrong name on the shoes, mine not the recipient. Since the company requires a signature at delivery and I live 8 hours away from the delivery location (my daughter is in school 8 hours away) I could not sign for the package and it was a circus trying to get the shipping name changed. Fast forward four wearings of the 245.00 shoes and the insole has come out of one of the shoes. After an email with no resolution and a dismissive phone conversation I decided she needed to fix her new shoes on her own. After lots of positive reviews from fellow stage performers I decided to splurge on a pair of laduca's 2.5" character heels online, and as I needed them for an event I decided to overnight them from the store to my house. Well, I wish I could give some opinion on the fit/quality of the shoes but they have yet to arrive nearly two days later and Im having to run out to buy a pair of capezios locally. When I called the store, staff were attentive and were able to track down my order, unfortunately they will not arrive for another few days. I then explained my position and said that I understood their policy "on all sales being final" however, given the situation it would be good business to agree to return them un-worn. This discussion however was futile and the best the manager would offer was a reduction in my shipping cost or store credit. I then stated how this wasnt the transaction agreed upon so it should warrant a return and exception to policy, but again, they were staunch in their position. When I explained I would be disputing the sale with my credit card, I was told I would be put on a do not sell to list.... I am so upset about my recent transaction. I wanted a quality pair of character shoes because I'm tired of buying a new pair for every show I'm in. So I went online, as I live in California, to order from LaDuca. I noticed the return policy is that there are absolutely NO returns. Exchanges cost $18.50! So I figured I needed to get it right on the first try. I called the store and a gentleman (I use that term loosely) answered and answered my sizing questions vaguely and with disinterest. I expressed my concern and wanted to verify they did, in fact, run true to US street shoe sizing, as he stated a few times. He said to use the Brannock scale, which is that silver thing they use in shoe stores to find your shoe size. I know I'm a size 9 in those so that's what I ordered. It took over a week for the shoes to arrive and when I attempted to put one on, I couldn't get my foot in it AT ALL. Then I checked the inside to make sure it was the right size and it said 37.5!! I'm sorry but I have never worn a 37.5 in European sizing. That's like a US size 7!! I wear a 39! I wish he had said the European equivalent, or at least have that on their website. Now I can't send them back and I have to deal with them again for the exchange plus get charged $18.50 for more SUPER slow shipping. I'll be halfway through my run before I actually get a pair that fits. :( read more

This was the worst and rudest customer service experience I have ever had. I placed an order for 7 pairs of their Roxie tap shoes online. These are for a Chorus in our university Fall Musical. These shoes are $300 a piece. I got a call that there was an error with their website and that they didn't have one of the sizes that I ordered. I requested that they refund all of the order because it what a chorus number and I needed the shoes to match. The sales rep said he had to ask a manager. The a woman came on the line and said very curtly said "What going on" She said that her name was "Catherine" and I explained the whole situation and she was very rude and refused to refund the money and proceeded to lie to me about how I really needed to get a size smaller anyway. I have been crying all night because this was a huge purchase for my university and I spent days doing research and comparing shoes and prices and consulting people and analyzing our budget. Overrated and overpriced! Not as comfortable as claimed and they stretch out way too fast. I have them 3 months and they are already too big and I feel like my foot is in a box! I purchased the Roxy tap shoe in my street shoe size as advised by the salesperson even though my research and others I know who wear them advised I buy a 1/2 a size smaller. She insisted it was the proper fit even though I had a gap between the shoe and my heel. She suggested I get a heel pad because the toes were in the right spot. A $300 dollar shoe and I should get a heel pad!! Now my foot slips and slides inside the shoe and I find the shoe very painful on the ball of my foot in particular. I would think if you are paying over $300 for a pair of shoes they would train their staff better in fitting the shoes properly! Well now there is nothing I can do as they sit in my closet while I dance in my comfortable old Blochs! $300 out the window! read more
