I just got back from another sneaker hunt at Eneslow Shoes on the Upper East Side. It is a "hunt" since I have very flat feet, overpronation, and my needs usually change every few years. The store itself has great staff, the same prices you would get elsewhere in other physical or online stores, and, at times, a limited selection( which is why I could only rate it a 4 star). My wife shops here as well for her nurses shoes for wearing at work in the Operating Room. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had a very negative experience in this store.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Came to have my orthotics refurbished. I wasn't sure at first if I needed simply that or a whole new pair, but I left a 100$ deposit on them anyway. First mistake. Subsequently I sat down and thought about it for a few minutes. Finally, feeling much more positive, I got up, went back to the counter/register, told a man--someone other than who I'd paid the first hundred to, "Why don't I just pay nearly balance, " or something to that effect, and handed over another hundred dollar bill. Second, big mistake. My last mistake was not checking my receipt after they handed it to me. I only looked at it the night before picking up the orthotics and was very unsettled and hardy slept that night. Because it said my balance was 125$, not having credited me with the second hundred but only the initial 100$. Instead of 225$, 325$ was the amount I ended up having to pay. But, hey, I assumed I was dealing with (mostly) honest people. Stay away from this store. Instead, find a good honest podiatrist, and if you need your orthotics refurbished, the HANGER CLINIC at 210 e 86th does that service and does a superior job. (Except you need a prescription, which is why I went to Eneslow.) read more

This company is unreliable when it comes to orthotic shoe modifications. I purchased a pair of Alden orthotic shoes and had Eneslow replace the laces with Velcro straps. The result was careless: the straps were cut so long they dragged on the ground -- a clear trip hazard. I returned the shoes twice. Both times, the straps were improperly adjusted. Eventually, I discovered the Velcro fastening was misaligned altogether. When I pointed this out, Eneslow refused to fix their own faulty work. For a company specializing in orthotics, this level of inattention -- and unwillingness to stand behind their service -- is unacceptable. read more

Everything. Usually I go to tiptop shoes. They have a much greater selection and they seem to cater to a variety of people of different ages. I have been to Eneslow on two occasions. I had the same sales person each time .Eddie. Each time he wanted me to take the shoes a half size smaller than I wear and need. They don't have a great selection. They seem to cater mostly to older people or/and people with foot problems that have special needs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When they had the store on Park Avenue they had some really good sales staff. Here they do not.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Out of immediate need I bought a pair of sneakers and a pair of sandals. The sandals are OK as I was just replacing a pair I already had. Years ago when I was having foot problems I bought my shoes at Eneslow in their now closed location on Park Avenue South. Regardless of who assisted me, the service was top notch and the selection for my hard to fit extra wide feet was impressive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sadly this is not the case at the Third Avenue Store uptown. The salesman that assisted (poor word for the service received) was brusque and not interested[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. He clearly did not understand the problem with my feet. No consideration was given to my request. The selection he offered (two pair of shoes) was inappropriate and when I tried and then refused both and asked for another type of shoe he said I he had nothing else to show me. Quality, quality, quality! I am saving for these shoes. I know well made merchandise as opposed to garbage that just has a pop culture name. I'm going back as soon as I can for a fitting. I was not pestered by any of the employees. I was allowed to look around at my leisure. I had a very educational conversation with a very nice man. I showed him the scabs on my feet where my new cheap Sandals rubbed then raw. I explained how many miles I walk a day. He gave me a complete demonstration of their shoes. He pulled out the insoles and described the damage wearing cheap shoes can do on your body. He explained how the pressure from hitting the pavement puts your full body weight pounding onto your feet. (My words not a quote.) With the wrong shoes you get back ache, knee aches and neck pain! These folks are trained professionals. I agree with him totally. it is not my fault that i must write bad reviews of this place. May 2d i went to buy a pair of shoes listed in my size on the store website where i was told i must order it online as they don't keep it there. So i did, ran home made the online order size 8 1/2 as per Eneslow's own webpage. 9 days later i received a size 6 shoe. Back again i was violently abused by a store clerk who repeatedly shouted that size 6 is the English equivalent of size 81/2. I received an apology for the unacceptable behavior from another clerk promising the right size and a phone call later while the abuser vaporized under the stony gaze of the rest of the many store employees. I'm still traumatized and amazed how low a formerly great store can sink. No promised call. Never again to shop there! read more

As their other location in the 70s had closed, I stopped here as I have had bad ankle pain while walking. The staff here that I spoke to was excellent, measuring and testing my feet and taking out a few sneakers. I was a bad hesitant as one of the pairs was New Balance and I have never found one that fit me properly but it turned out that it was quite good. Their orthotic also fits well and I haven't had issues since. I also went back later and bought a pair of shoes and I have to admit they are quite comfortable as well. Sure the place is very expensive but you pay for what you get and if you're going to wear a pair of sneakers for several years, you might as well spend a couple hundred and get something actually good that won't cause foot pain. Can't give anything but a 5. Sure my wallet hurts but my feet hurt a lot less now. read more

This company saved my boots. The tall Pikolinos I had for 10 years, my favorites, were rejected by two of the best cobblers in Denver. In a somewhat desperate Hail Mary, I called Eneslow, sent photos and good will, and today my most loved boots are back with a new life. The soles had broken from Denver's low humidity after we moved West from Nashville. But aha, how so very pleased I am with the excellent customer service, superb workmanship and fair pricing and trustworthy handling of my cherished leather boots. Being from out of town...struggling with ongoing Plantar fasciitis (recovering plantar fascia tear) and only three days into a much needed sabbatical, my feet were a mess and PAINFUL! With an upcoming two weeks in France still to go I needed help FAST! I looked up Enslow and jumped on the train from my hotel in Midtown. I came in to get a pair of shoe inserts at the recommendation of a podiatrist. The gentleman who helped me not only quickly ascertained the issue I was having with my metatarsals but also noted that I was pronating and needed a different sneaker altogether than what I had been wearing! He fit me for a pair of inserts that instantly made my feet feel better and also talked me through what to look for in a sneaker for the particular issues with my feet. I am noticing a few reviews on Yelp and elsewhere from the past year that complain about the customer service. I'm wondering if folks recognize that the employees have been working during a global pandemic to sell you shoes and inserts?! Can we please give people a little grace? Customer service is hard enough during normal times! The folks that I interacted with were very helpful and knowledgeable and I'll definitely be back when I need new inserts and shoes. read more

I have problems with my feet due to a botched foot operation. Eneslow is one of the only places I can find some decent looking shoes that I can wear without pain. Pedro Neel Sanchez is much more than a shoe salesman. He is extremely skilled in helping to find shoes that will actually work for complicated foot problems, but he also knows orthotics, and made some excellent suggestions. If you have a leg discrepancy and require a custom shoe lift, be warned and go elsewhere. Eneslow does not value its long-standing customers anymore and their level of professionalism and rudimentary craftsman has abysmally FAILED recently. Ive been going there for over two decades to get my shoe lifts done and noticed three years ago (around the same time Rocco retired), that they stopped making shoe lifts by splitting the original sole in half and simply inserting a new foam lift and then re-gluing the original shoe sole to the bottom of the new foam lift. (This makes the shoes very light, easy to wear and nice looking...). After he retired, a new person came on board and they started to just glue a foam lift to the bottom of the existing sole, and then add a new rubber sole to the bottom of that... this makes the shoes look clunky and they feel extra heavy (it has an extra unnecessary sole now!) and extremely inflexible. I was told this was due to the type of shoes I submitted so I went ahead and found an IDENTICAL pair of Gabor shoes (200 dollars) Enslow did for me years ago where they DID split the original sole in half and brought it in for another new lift. This was a clear example of a sample shoe where they did manage to split the original sole in half and simply insert the new lift. I even left a photo of it with my order... When I was in the store to drop-off my order: 1. I was told the Gabor shoe could be easily split and a new sole inserted to match the previously done sample shoe. "No problem!" 2. I was told if I bought another pair of custom Austrian handmade shoes with a natural rubber sole (300 dollars!), they could do the same to that pair as well. 3. I trusted them completely and paid in FULL for the new lifts, 95 dollars each, plus new 300 dollar shoes! Just went to pick them up after a surgery on my leg and they made the lift by simply gluing the foam lift to the bottom and then adding a new rubber sole not only to the shoe in question (with the leg discrepancy), but NOW ACTUALLY BOTH legs! This makes the shoes absurdly heavy and inflexible. Not to mention I really wanted them to simply just split the EXISTING sole in half. No extra rubber soles...I even left a photo and brought in the sample shoe, the way they USED TO DO IT for years, according to an identical pair of shoes I found and left with them.... after waiting more than an hour for the manager to address this, I was given every excuse possible and was shown no apology or remorse. He actually looked annoyed when I took out the photo and showed it to him. Nothing! The shoes are compromised! The shoe maker itself came up eventually and said he could NOT undo what was done... then the manager tells me "they'll work with me". HOW? I'm out 700 plus dollars now. Eneslow, Shame on You! Train your NEW STAFF. BE HONEST. Say you can NOT do it the way you used to ahead of time before a customer pays over 700 dollars and then lower your prices since the amount of labor is not the same when you don't have to go through the trouble of splitting the sole! Be warned. Go elsewhere. If you have a leg discrepancy, You'll end up with lower back pain and vericose veins, not to mention a really ugly looking shoe with an ugly walking gait, since your shoes will be hard to walk in... read more

I wanted to replace my old New Balance shoes so I went to the local New Balance store, even though they don't make the model anymore. . After trying on 5-6 pairs, I purchased one, only to find they weren't comfortable when I got home. I decided to go to the Eneslow store, even though it's far from my home. I've shopped there before, and they have my orthotics info on file. I explained my problem to Carlos, and in no time at all, I was fitted with a new pair of New Balance sneakers and replacement orthotics too. If you walk a lot, this is the place for you. I went into the store specifically for on cloud sneakers the other day. Walked in and there were three women behind the check out desk, not one of them acknowledged me. Two men running the floor, not one of them acknowledged me. Mind you, it was NOT very busy at this time. I have to ask for help. The ladies at the desk give me such attitude. Finally one of the men grabs my shoes, but they feel a little snug and I want to try on the next size up. I'm standing there shoe in hand, obviously wanting to ask a question and again, no one acknowledges me, just stares with an IDGAF attitude. It felt very deliberate or I would not be writing this review. I quickly put back on my own shoes and brought my business to Bloomingdale's! I really like Eneselow Shoes. I always get excellent service, and the salespeople tend to be very patient. This was so two nights ago when I stopped in after work and Sarah assisted me. She was so incredibly kind, and she clearly knew the stock in the store and kept bringing me the style of shoe I wanted in various brands and colors. Her priority seemed to be to make sure I had a comfortable shoe with a good fit that I liked. She was attentive and professional. I highly recommend a visit to this store. I am impressed with Eneslow for what they stand for -- helping people make "smart footwear choices". It is clearly an unmet need for a city where walking is the norm, and the Footlockers and DSWs do not quite have the specialized inventory or the ability to advice customers on choices. My experience at the Park Avenue location was poor. The front desk manager seemed friendly and asked me to wait for a salesperson. The salesperson came a few minutes later, but seemed too busy to care. He had me try on a pair of sandals and, when I was unsure, he simply said that there is a way to increase the arch support but he doesn't have the time to show me how. He turned his back and walked away without an apology or even engaging with me. I couldn't help but think that I was being profiled based on how casually I was dressed when I visited them--hopefully not the case, but perceptions matter. It was hard enough for me to get from Tribeca to Midtown East to visit Eneslow. But if you have to wait for a salesperson who is then not able to guide you effectively, and you have to pay full retail, it is a waste of time. I have wanted to purchase a pair of shoes here for many years now, having worked in the midtown area for 5+ years and in walking distance to Eneslow. My most recent visit was yesterday and I felt it was time to post a review as to why I have never been able to complete a purchase. While I am not certain, maybe it is because the sale people see me as "not likely to buy" (ie, can't afford) and do not provide proper service or they have very poor customer service. However, I have never been treated as a customer who was going to make a purchase, and I definitely was going to each time, but after trying on three different pair, neither of which worked for different reasons; two for style, one for size - I asked for the next size up- he never brought the next size, when I saw him next he was fitting someone else. I just left. I love many of the shoe for the comfort and am at the stage and age in my life where I can afford and will easily fork over the money to be comfortable. But I'm not going to wrestle you down to give you the money. I believe that they profile their customers. How rude is it for a salesman to work with me for 15 minutes and instead of continuing to help me, bring me the next size as requested, take a new customer after and never look to help me again? Once I realized that he was with another customer, I left. Good riddance for the last time. I finally get the message. read more

This is a very interesting store. They have many different high end shoe brands like Ecco and Mephisto. What's interesting is they also make their own brand, the Eneslow. Eneslow also has a full shoe repair department downstairs. (I didn't go downstairs but I saw the signs) What I did notice was the upstairs clearance center. I noticed a few nice looking shoes on the racks but its not anything I'm looking for at this time. I tell the sales person I own Birkenstock sandals, what do you have in a similar style? He starts talking about Mephisto and Merrill shoes. Funny story about Merrill flip flops. First they now sell them in Costco which diluted the brand. A few years back I owned a pair of Merrill flip flops. During the summer, I'm at the movies and all of sudden I smell "something" off. I go to the mens room, and the sandals have a cloth band, similar to a sweatband. PU! Historically I would give this company/store 5 stars because they have done a good job curating their inventory and serving people who have problematic feet. I'll even overpay to get the right thing in a pleasant way. I just had a totally second-rate experience that makes me wonder if even a service-focused store can compete in the new retail world. I went in to buy a pair of running shoes and maybe a pair of sandals. I don't browse - I buy when I go to a store and wanted to walk out with shoes. I called in advance to make sure they were open and had ample inventory - the manager gave me an affirmative yes. When I got to the store, the employee who helped me clearly did not want to be there, and I could feel the negative attitude. I simply wanted shoes to go with my orthotics, but my sense was that he wanted to try to sell me new orthotics. I've been running in flat Adidas Sambas so the bar to sell me a better shoe was very low. I looked at the men's wall and picked out ~5 shoes that all would be better/could work. While I was talking to the salesman, the manager put all the shoes back up and said it was due to COVID-related concerns. I was surprised because it was in the middle of me trying to decide, and there were 0-1 other customers in the store. When the salesman came back with shoes, he said they had no 10.5 medium-width men's shoes in any of the 5 styles. He had a couple 10.5 wide, but they didn't fit. He said they'd have to order it to the store and I'd have to come back to try them (what happened to having ample inventory?? How did they have no size 10.5 in a common New Balance shoe?). If that wasn't enough, I was told I'd have to pay for the shoes to have them sent to the store (implies they're getting ready to close since they aren't replenishing their own inventory - although I was promised they could be refunded if they didn't work). I ultimately won't be buying this round of shoes from Eneslow, but I'll give them another try at a later time. Hope they can step up their game as the city gets back to normal. read more

Great shoes but horrific customer service. In short - bought shoes. wore them once, got shooting pains in my legs, went to my podiatrist who diagnosed that the shoes were inflexible causing the pain. I returned with a note from my doctor and the manager was disrespectful and initially refused to give me a refund. He acted as if I was trying to cheat him and looked up my account which showed that I have been a good customer for the past 11 years. He was nasty, yelling at me and finally gave me a refund (not cash but an exchange) as if he were doing me a favor. Shame on them. read more

I needed a pair of hiking shoes and a pair of sneakers for tendinitis. I didn't mind paying more as long as I got well fitting shoes. This was my first visit to this store. And last. I was so impressed that the salesman gave me personal service, measured my feet and helped me put the shoes on. I bought 2 pair of sneakers. Over $300. One for hiking, one for walking. Both felt good when I was in the store and he seemed so professional that I thought he was steering me in the right direction. After all, I hadn't been fitted for shoes since I was a kid. I came home and put them in the closet in the boxes as I was going a way for a few weeks and knew I wouldn't wear them for a while. When I returned and put the walking sneaks on, I wondered why they felt so big. I have a narrow foot. I double checked the size on the box and the salesman sold me a size EEE width. I normally wear an A width. When I wore the hiking shoe, my back hurt the following day. My foot angled down at the heel and totally through my back out. By this time, it was past the return date. It's true, shame on me for keeping these shoes, but shame on the salesman for scamming me with the wrong size. read more

Eneslow did a fantastic job with resoling my Birkenstock sandals. Not only did they do the repair, they also resealed the cork footbed and polished the leather. Shoes looked close to brand new! I was impressed. Price and turn around time both were reasonable. Everyone working at the store was friendly and professional. Ordered a pair of shoes after I called and was ensured that there is a guaranteed 3--day delivery to California. That was essential for me, because I was leaving for an extended time. Was not there after 4 days, I called and from there it went downhill: Apparently delivery was scheduled for 5 days plus something went wrong which I was not informed of. I have been a customer for 9 years, I shop here I because I cannot find any stores that have shoes that I can wear. I Suffer from Plantar Fasciitis and other painful disabilities with my feet and ankles, and I have to wear xx wide shoes which I cannot find anywhere it seems not even on line. I shop at Eneslow at park Avenue store and I have never had a problem with anyone in the 9 years I've been going there... Until last night when I tried to purchase the very comfortable New Balance trainers I had tried on, when I got to the register and asked if I could use the 2 gift cards I had from them I was told yes. (I had 1 but had lost the other one) and when they looked up my account online the salesperson told me I only had 1 gift card and when I insisted she called the manager over I explained to him that I had gotten 2 but lost 1 and further explained that when I had called last week and spoke to someone and explained the situation they looked up my account and told me that I there were 2 gift cards and not to worry about the lost one it was in the system and the manager insisted that I only got 1 and he said that his manager will call me today. 12:30 PM and I had not heard from her so, I called and she told me I only got one and when I told her I got 2 she basically insinuated that I was a liar by saying that no one would say that which suggests to me that she thought that I was lying... This would have not been a problem I would have gladly shrugged it off and just buy them if I had a lot of money to spend but, my only income is my monthly social security check so I was happy that I would be able to buy these $165.00 trainers for $80.00.. This is all very disheartening to me not only because I really needed to buy these shoes the shoes I am wearing now are pretty worn out making it hard for me to walk and hurt my feet, The ones I was going to buy last night were so so comfortable and I did not have pain in my feet for the first time in a long while.
