It was an absolute dream of mine to be in Paris and go to a Laduree location! And how lucky were we that this one was two blocks from our apartment. My mom, sister and sister-in-law celebrated Mother's Day here with an afternoon tea and macaron sampling and it did not disappoint. We ordered 8 different flavors to split and taste amongst ourselves. While the other girls went with tea as their drink of choice (hence afternoon tea...), I couldn't resist going full decadent and got the hot chocolate. It was divine and I recommend you try it if ever passing through. I have to admit, macarons are not even my dessert of choice. I was just so enamored by the luxury of the place and our comfy window seats. I was drunk on Paris for sure. I do lean towards the salted caramel and coffee variety over floral flavors. They had a slight crunch to the outside and the classic soft center. Pretty much perfect. Service was attentive and they were not crowded in the late afternoon. I would come here over and over again. It's probably unfair to judge a patisserie based only on a few pastries. Plenty of great patisseries have the odd misfire, and on the other hand, plenty of average patisseries have the odd masterpiece. Now, the task becomes arduous with the selection Parisian Patisseries have: on average 20-30... and, there's just so much you can eat if you're not living in Paris. Still, I've now started to classify patisseries in two categories: those that are 1) pleasing in the moment, but ephemeral; 2) truly memorable. Sadly, in my last visit to Paris I really didn't know where to place Laduree - indisputable institution that it is. There's truly excellent pastries like the La Fraise I had in Laduree Soho (strawberry shaped, coconut dacquoise biscuit, strawberry preserve and mousse). Then, there's execution that's really half-hearted, as can be expected given their expanding number of locations. Take for example their famed Religieuse (Rose). By design, it's magnificent in what it promises: delicate choux pastry, exquisite rose crème, sugary fondant to emphasize the floral, and raspberries inside to counter with something acidic and fruity. In execution, for the one I had, the choux was a tad dry, there was no explosion of rose crème, and the fondant barely floral. Again, it's execution and not design - I know that. Process variability. Similarly, I liked the other two pastries I tried, but didn't love them: The Mont Blanc agrumes (meringue, clementine marmalade, chestnut rum mousse, vanilla whipped cream, and candied chestnuts) and the Cheese cake cassis myrtille (shortbread, cheesecake cream, black currant and blue berry jam). I guess, I found the flavors subtle and nuanced, and not intense enough. But, one can admire the thought given to design. Still, there's always the Fleur d'Orange and Cassis macarons to lift one's spirts at Laduree. They never disappoint. read more

I tried the Ladurée breakfast menu for a returning visit after 12 yr. The quality of food turned out not as good as I expected. I have been trying the same order at Ladurée SOHO New York and Ladurée Groves in Beverly Hills. It is a little disappointing with my nice memory at Paris St. Germain. But I do glad they are available now in the states and perhaps they sent their expertise to NY. The General Manager (French) I talked to is very kind and knowledgeable in SOHO. Ehhhhhhhhhhh this is the definition of a tourist trap. I live in Paris, and I've never tried a macaron from pierre hermé or ladurée. So today I went to both stores and I picked up the exact same flavors at each. I would say most tourists flock to Ladurée because of their packaging and beautiful stores. Don't get me wrong, love the look of the store, love the marketing they do, but they don't have the best macarons in Paris. I dont think they tasted bad per say, but not incredible either. The cookie was really crisp(which i liked) but the filing was completely artificial tasting, way too strong. If you buy the macarons without a box they cost 2,20€ each. Also something disappointing as well is that these are all made in a factory outside of Paris and then frozen and delivered to the stores. These are not fresh or artisanal, they're mass produced. Complete charming macaron emporium. A friend highly recommended a visit to Ladurée as soon as she knew I was spending some time in Paris. Only upon my return did she mention she visits at 7:30a to avoid the lines. And I can see why based upon the mayhem I witnessed at their store on the Champs Elysées last Saturday night. I like macarons, but not enough to deal with that insanity. Fortunately, when engaged in an aimless stroll through the Saint-Germain neighborhood the following day, I stumbled upon this smaller location and was completely charmed. Certainly set up for tourists with their expansive menu in both French and English, ordering was a breeze with my limited French. My favorite flavor was the caramel with sea salt. Divine. I'll let the locals weigh in on whether Ladurée's macarons are the best Paris has to offer, but the overall experience for a visitor at their smaller location was a sweet treat du commencement à la fin (from start to finish). read more

Laduree is bordering on 3.5 stars for me but I think I'm gonna have to round down this once. There are four lines for this obscenely popular Laduree location: bar, pick-up, boutique, and restaurant. The bar entrance is on the side and basically has no line. I didn't take note of the pick-up line, but the lines for the boutique and restaurant were insanely long. The restaurant itself is always packed but luckily for us, we were visiting in the winter so we were only stuck in line for approximately half an hour. Plus, there's free wi-fi to keep you entertained. Unfortunately, we were seated at the bar which is reminiscent of an ice queen's lair, complete with a cold demeanor compliments of our waiter. The rest of the restaurant is extravagantly decorated like an 18th century palace but crammed with people - you could probably comfortably rest your hand on your neighbor's shoulder, if you so choose, but I think that's generally frowned upon; stranger danger! We came by for afternoon tea and were a little disappointed to not be able to try their french toast but we of course ordered some macarons, tea, coffee, and a mistakenly ordered, fruit-infused water. My favorite macaron by far was the Mary Antoinette, but the rest seemed pretty ordinary, in my opinion. The restaurant in general is definitely overpriced but I guess it could be worth a visit even if it is just to check out all the hype though I think I'll just visit Pierre Herme or maybe the Laduree boutique next time I have an urge to splurge on macarons. read more

As famous as it gets. I was a little confused by the celebrity of this place. There's a lot going on, and trying to select a macaron was a bit too much for me. I vastly preferred the cleaner, sleeker Pierre Herme (an offshoot by a former Laduree Pastry Chef) which is conveniently a couple blocks from this location. I'm also not a huge fan of the macaron, as it's really just...sweet, and not much else. So there's that. I definitely recommend taking pictures through the window, since they tend to yell at you if you take one inside. read more

My hubby and I went to Ladurée for tea service rather than a meal. We pretty much ate all day/night long so it was a nice change to stop in Ladurée rather than a cafe for our usual midday fix. We each ordered a different type of tea and for a snack he had a chocolate croissant and I had a coffee eclair. Now that I've check this off the list, I probably won't return for tea or a meal but it was definitely an experience while in Paris. The restaurant is separate from the shop if you're only stopping to buy macarons or other desserts. The macarons are amazing IF you eat them fresh. After a couple days they begin to taste stale & dry. The quality and flavors don't compare to macarons from Pierre Hermé. For macarons only, I give Ladurée 3 stars. So I thought I'd had decent macarons in my lifetime. Until I came here. Now I realize that everything I'd tasted prior to these were crap. No, these macarons are not overhyped in taste - only in presentation. Everyone in Paris is familiar with the legendary Laduree macarons, and several outposts of this bakery/boutique exist around the city for tourists and locals alike to pay 2 euros per mini delicacy. Very expensive, but sooooo worth it. We tried salted caramel, raspberry, coffee, vanilla, chocolate and lemon. I was absolutely astounded by the brilliance of the flavors. Oh, the raspberry! The jam filling exploded with bold, tart and not-too-sweet flavors and the shells were crisp and melted quickly. The chocolate ganache was almost pure fudge and the vanilla was so light and inviting, it was difficult not to re-trace our steps and spend another 20-some euros on macarons. I'm not sold on the whole "tea parlour" and the fancy, almost inaccessible packaging, but I am sold on the perfection of these macarons. You'll have to try them for yourself! read more

When you come to Paris a couple of places come to mind that have to be seen or sought out. Laduree was one of them. I heard about this place for years and had to stop in and try one of their many flavors of macaroons, or all of them- doesnt matter it HAD to be done. We were staying close to Champs Elysses and saw a shop right on the block. The line was long but went fast. Service was fine...there was a couple of hand gestures back and forth due to lack of language on both sides of the kiosk. The macaroons, all 16 of them (dont judge), were perfect. Delicious. Delicate. Flavorful. Everything that they should be. Downside- holysh!t batman do they cost an arm and a leg. They are fancy macaroons and cost just as much as fancy should. A little over $2 each. The ambiance is really special. You feel like you have been transported back in time and are about to have high tea in high society. The decor is gilded crown molding, light green damask wallpaper, and uber fancy chairs. If not for all the tourists, camera flashes, and people asking how much longer the line would be- this place is truly magical. This place is a must. So save those pennies. This patisserie is the mother lode. As a dessert junkie, I believe I can safely say that they know what they're doing. I ordered the €6 "Tarte Fraise Mascarpone" (I think that translates to Strawberry Mascarpone Tart) & the €6.30 "Millefeuille au Vieux rhum brun" (I think brun means brown, but that's all I can translate, désolé). I also ordered 1 of their croissants. Can't remember how much I paid for that. In the photos I uploaded, the Millefeuille is the single rectangular thing with a white top & nice zig-zaggy pattern in "brun". I asked the pretty girl behind the counter if she would recommend the Ispahan (out of curiosity, because I've never tasted anything rose-flavored, I think), & she said she personally didn't like the taste of rose water. I agreed with her, because she was so pretty. I figured I didn't like the taste of rose water either, & I wasn't in the mood to be adventurous. I'm not sure I can find the words to explain the sensation of eating that Millefeuille au Vieux rhum brun dessert, but eating it was probably 1 of my most memorable dessert experiences ever (yes, eating dessert is an 'experience'). How could so much amazingness fit into that 1 small rectangular thing? It was just the right amount of sweetness & crunchiness & softness & I dunno, coldness. You'd have to try it for yourself. I shared half of these desserts with our French host, & she loved them. My cousin got a box of macarons to take back to the US, & those were incroyable. I tend to be careful with my money, but do I regret spending about €15 on Ladurée's amazingness? No. If you're going on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Paris, you want to experience what the city is known throughout the world for. It was my first visit at this boutique on Bonaparte, after visiting their flagship store on Champs-Elysées a few days prior. This particular boutique is cute but small. There was a short line-up when we arrived, but it did not take long for it to reach outside. I noticed the servers at this location were a younger crowd, but they were really friendly and welcoming. I chose my favourite, salted caramel, and all the chocolatey, nutty and coffee-flavoured macarons I came to love. Ladurée has boutiques all over the city, and I visited this location because we were in the area for Sadaharu Aoki and Pierre Hermé. I've heard so much hype about Laduree so of course I had to stand in the line that snaked around the corner and check it out. As we waited, we admired the store window displays and impeccably elegant presentation. Laduree is expensive, but you're basically paying for the brand name. Even the packaging was exquisite and lovely- like little cosmetic or jewelry boxes. As for the desserts, I ordered as many as possible, feeling pressure from the people due to the long line. Macarons tasted definitely very flavorful and pungent, such as the rose and dark chocolate. We bought several torts as well. However, they didn't match my palette for some reason. Well-made and beautiful, but I've honestly had better macarons elsewhere. Was surprised myself. In my opinion, it's definitely worth a visit- just don't get too caught up in the hype. They have a few Laduree shops in NYC but I never had a chance to go when I was in town. I figured might as well go straight to the source and try some authentic Parisian macarons. Like everything else in Paris, these things were super expensive, like 2 euro each. The shop was tiny and was just jammed packed with people trying to get their macaron fix. They had a bunch of different flavors available, but I decided to just settle on a set of four macarons: pistachio, mocha, salted caramel, then original Grenada chocolate. I will admit, even though they were expensive, they were totally worth it. These macarons were just on another level. The outside looked so pristine with the slightest crispy shell, and directly underneath that is just a super soft layer of cake that just melted in your mouth. The creme in the middle had a real distinct taste and did justice to the flavors they were going for. I really had to try hard to savor them and not just devour the whole thing in one bite. Attached to the shop is a pretty nice looking cafe area with tables where you can enjoy some cofee with your macarons. I just ate real quick at an open table and then bounced. I'm not sure if these are the best macarons in Paris but they're definitely the best I've ever had. read more

With a visit to The Louvre scheduled for my first full day in Paris and feeling the carryover hunger from a rather disappointing and unfulfilling dinner from the previous night, I paid a visit to Paris' most famous patisserie: Ladurée. After making my purchase, I walked over to The Louvre and ate my breakfast seated beside a fountain in the famous Cour Napoléon overlooking the museum and its enormous glass pyramid. My (admittedly large) purchase consisted of a Croissant aux Amandes, a Canelé, a St. Honoré, and six macarons. The best way to describe Ladurée's Croissant aux Amandes is to say that it is the foil to a plain croissant in the same way that a glazed doughnut is to a plain doughnut, except that there is a blob of frangipane inserted into the almond croissant. Tasty without any hint of sogginess, this was a very nice and light version of the almond croissant. The Canelé was a bit spongy and soft, but flavor-wise was fine. My first ever St. Honoré was, simply put, delicious. Basically a round of choux pastry topped with a layer of caramelized sugar, almond custard cream, ultra-light pastry cream, and small Munchkin-like orbs of more caramelized sugar-covered choux, this was more like a dessert item than something that you'd eat for breakfast, but surprisingly, it wasn't too sweet. As for the macarons, I tried Raspberry, Coffee, Strawberry Mint, Bittersweet Chocolate, Fleur de Sel Caramel, and Pistachio. Texture-wise, these were a bit more crisp than I remembered Pierre Hermé's as being, and their flavors were quite bold and straightforward. It's hard to choose between Pierre Hermé and Ladurée, as they are both exemplary, but if you're looking for the traditional flavors, Ladurée may be your best bet. Whether you choose to get macarons, pastries, or (as was the case for me) both, you can't go wrong with just about anything you get at Ladurée. read more

My mouth's undisputed king of the macaron: Laduree's Pistache is everything. I mean, these cats originated the cookie, and the soft green mainstay of any classic flavor lineup is a deep left-center grand slam. External, meringue crisp yield immediately to a decadent softness, and the ratio of creme to biscuit... c'est magnifique! But the potency of the earthy pistachio radiates from this thing. I tried their other offerings - lavender, orange blossom, rose, a cloying blackcurrant violent, the rest of the garden - but Pistache reigned supreme. To be fair, the balance on the floral flavors was superb. Neither too perfumed, nor too strong in a syrupy sugar rush, they're masterful works. It's just that pistachio... Mmm. I'm far from what you'd call a traditionalist, so the fact that Laduree created the thing doesn't weigh in to this clear conclusion: you won't find a better macaron. read more

Holy macarons! My husband and I went to the Ladurée on the Champs Elysées first but they were closed when we got there! Heartache! It was meant to be after all! Please note: I was so excited that I pretty much ran inside, not paying any attention to the 2 steps down inside the shop and pretty much ate it inside. Macarons are out of this world; I didn't even like macarons that I had at Bouchon in Yountville and I swore that I would never like these overly sweet treats. However, after tasting the macarons at Laduree, I was converted COMPLETELY. My travel buddy and I each bought 6 in one of those pretty hard casings to try. My favorites were pistachio, rose, and raspberry. The rose was probably the ultimate favorite because the cream filling was so light and airy. I love that these cookies aren't too sweet like all the imitations in America, and they are just the right degree of chewy vs. crispy. I've never had anything like these! We also ate a late brunch in the dining room next door. Sure, the food was overpriced for what it was, but the ambiance was really nice and we sat right next to towers of macarons so I was happy. It is pretty multi-cultural inside - you see Parisians of all backgrounds. Yay! I did not order the foie gras but if you're adventurous = give it a try! I ordered the oyster mushroom Tart and it was yummy. Otherwise, there is a prefix menu available which is also just as good. If you're not sure about eating, just only try the desserts. I'm sure either way, it's great to just see how it is. As for the wait staff - majority will speak english, no problem. Almost all were so friendly and I LOVE IT!!! (it is rare to find a paris spot friendly to non-Parisians, ahah, jk) The bathrooms - there is someone always cleaning it so yay to that! (I just like well-maintained bathrooms, whoo hoo!) My only wonder is that I'm not sure if they take tips? We did not leave a tip ( a practice highly uncommon in the U.S.) and looked at the wait staff's reaction. Nothing. So we assumed it was ok but i think to avoid the whole mystery about that... we'll probably just give it automatically. sometimes it is just harder to think too much about it. This location is really busy so I would suggest the other ones if you don't want to be rushed. I had to see what all the hype was about. I picked up some pastries from both this store and Pierre Herme which is 5 minutes down the street walking. I have never really understood the mini macaroons, so my objective description is that the ones from Laduree have a thin crisp outer shell, different from the ones down the street. The packaging for the macaroons was very nice and would make a more impressive gift option than Pierre Herme. read more

The macarons are perfect! Slightly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside but not chewy. Sure you can argue that other places may make it perfect but that doesn't take away from the high marks this place earns. The only downside is the price. It is a bit steep at 2.10€ each for the small ones. read more

This location is charming and FAR LESS CROWDED than the tourist area of champs elysées Just visited the bakery - not the tea house whether you are stopping here for a treat for yourself or a box to take home - it is a must. For taking home would wait until your last day or visit airport locations as they only last a Day not refrigerated. It's not necessarily going to spoil - it's more about preserving the flavor!
