I originally stopped by around 4pm on a weekday. No one was there. The door was locked. There was no note on the door that they had closed early. The website currently shows open until 6pm. So that was incorrect. The next day, I called to confirm their hours and confirmed I wanted to stop by to place an order. I told them I stopped by the day before, but they were closed before 4:30pm. The person I spoke to stated they would be there and denied what happened the day before. That should have been a red flag for me. As for ambiance, it was a hot day and it was definitely warm inside the bakery. I could see behind the counter and it didn't look very tidy. So I stopped by later that afternoon. The young lady at the front could not be bothered. She was not helpful. She seemed annoyed by my questions. She kept pointing at a board for me to look at for answers. I guess the owner came out from the back, and she was not very friendly. Neither of them demonstrated good customer service. They seemed annoyed and didn't seem to want to help. Against my better judgment, I proceeded to place an order. They quoted me $130 for a 10" strawberry whipped cream cake with flowers and happy birthday writing. I placed a deposit and even gave a generous tip in hopes the cake would turn out better than their customer service. The cake was placed in a box that was double the size it needed to be. There was a whole lot of box for a not so big cake. The cake looked pretty on the outside. Unfortunately, it was dry and bland on the inside. It was hard to cut and it crumbled when trying to scoop it on the fork or spoon. It did not taste fresh. The icing was okay. It wasn't sweet. Overall, it was NOT worth $130 + the generous tip I gave. I was so excited to ask Ivy to make my wedding cake since she's been my go to baker all these years and she did such an amazing job! Looks nothing like the Inspo picture, the owner misinterpreted what we wanted, said we showed her two pictures when it was just one we even sent it through text, she tried to blame it on the icing being whipped cream that's why it looks bad like this but the border looks nothing like the Inspo picture, plus it was smudged when we open it, we ALSO asked for a marble cake and they gave us chocolate, The cake tasted good but there was a lot of mistakes and it was not what we asked for mostly paying 250$, not worth it and not coming back. There was only one layer of custard and it was in the lower half of the cake not in the middle. It was decorated beautifully but we had someone wanting a frosting rose and it was inedible like cement. I'm glad a tooth wasn't broken. They don't follow the rules about don't put it on a cake if you can't eat it. Like I said, the flavors were delicious but the cake was a little dry and decoration wasn't edible. Glad Ladyfingers opened a location in SL! We're a fan of their fruit tarts and cakes. I recommend ordering a few days ahead as they have a limited variety of cakes in-store. They do have a good amount of cupcakes, mini pastries, mini tarts, cookies, etc. available for purchase though. As for their desserts, some are better than others. I wish that their fruit tart was more consistent. On one occasion, the tart shell was perfectly cooked, flaky, but the pastry cream wasn't set. The next time the tart shell was a overcooked with a bitter aftertaste, while the pastry cream was perfect. The fruit was refreshing both times. I'd probably skip their cookies unless you prefer yours extra crispy, but I look forward to trying their mini pastries one day. This new bakery replaces Sweet Dee, a bakery that was popular for their cupcakes. I went far out of my way to try this new spot because it's the new second location of the original Ladyfinger's in Oakland, which started in 1979. I actually haven't even been to the original Oakland location in ages, but it was once​ very popular, so I wanted to give their new place a try. I only bought a Snow Ball, which was a cupcake topped with a coconut cream cheese topping​. I was far from being wowed. The cream topping looked like a lackadaisical attempt, with the frosting completely uneven. Appearances aside, the cupcake itself was meh. I was told that because it was refrigerated that it should sit outside for about 10 minutes. I waited 10 minutes, but it was still hard inside, as if it may have been refrigerated from the day before. The half I took home and left outside was a bit better after sitting out for about 2 hours, but not so much so that I'd return for that or anything else. Customer service is important to any business, but especially to a new business. I wasn't feeling it, and neither were two other customers I witnessed leave after just a brief interaction with the employee. It's too bad because I love to see new local businesses thrive, but they need super friendly employees that make customers feel welcomed. Putting out a better product would make a difference too. Out of curiosity​, I just skimmed through recent Yelp reviews of the original Oakland location. Stopped here for a Black Bottom fix. Was greeted by a little person, letting me know it would be just a moment as mommy was in the back busy at the moment. So cute she was attentive to customers. Black bottom was decent. But the strawberry personal cake was a serious bust. I believe the cake was a day or two days old. The whipped cream was hard and stiff. The cake was extremely dry and brittle, it crumbled once we put the fork into it. Had to toss it, it was really that bad. Was so disappointed. $10 wasted! Instead of using the recommended vendor from my wedding venue, I researched for bakeries in the Oakland/San Leandro area and found this place. I went on the website to browse the selection and check prices. It was very quick and easy to email the owner about flavors, sizes, and design. I was able to plan just about everything through email which helped so much considering COVID and me working day shift at the hospital. It was very convenient for communication and delivery. I set up at time to go in and so a tasting. It was $10 for 6 cupcakes as the "cake testing" which was quite cheap and efficient considering the average cupcake is typically $3 & up. We chose the marble and coconut for a 2 tier cake. The only reason why I could not give 5 stars is because when I had gone in the day before my wedding, right before my wedding rehearsal, to drop off the flowers for my cake, there was a big miscommunication in the cake design. When confirming my order, they had written down a black frosted cake according to the picture I had sent several weeks prior. I showed them the picture of my desired cake which was navy blue with gold flecks. On their monitor, the same picture appeared to be black. The girl in the front went to check if my cake was already made. It happened to be in the process and was going to be frosted next. Had I gone any later nor never confirmed my cake, I would have had the wrong cake at my wedding. The navy blue coloring they used was also very vibrant and showed up great in pictures, but also stained my teeth which was evident for the rest of the night in all my pictures. Despite all of that, I still highly recommend this bakery for all your special occasion cakes and cupcakes! read more
