Oakland A's tray, dragon roll, wow roll, lion king roll, crunchy California roll, double hamachi roll

This is my go-to sushi place! The portions are big and decently priced. I love that they are fast when you order for pick up and a lot of available parking in the front. I've been going to this spot since Covid days.

    3/9/25 FYI. Menu.

This is my year of updates! 2025 is the most updates I have written ever! But you already know that because you are following. Quality/Quantity - As you can tell from my excessive pictures and check ins... I am a regular customer and a creature of habit. So this last visit, I changed my order, lol. So today I got the following: Volcano Roll - This was good and reasonably priced, too bad I am trying to eat less deep fried... Amazingly, my daughter did NOT choose this as her favorite, so I ended up eating most of it. There goes my health, lol. Sake & Tekka Maki - So fresh. But I have to admit, it is hard for me to buy Sake and Tekka Makis other than from Sushi House in Alameda... This is good, but I like the quality of their competitors even more. Wow Roll - The favorite for everyone. The first roll to disappear, lol. Sorry, I usually take a side picture so you can see what is in the roll. And of course, to wash it all down, beer (had plenty at the house). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere - Still to-go only, so no bathrooms. I do not see this changing[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Plenty of mall parking; we got a space right in front of the business. Open kitchen. Service - Consistent and good. Price - Like everything else, price continues to increase. Actually, the prices are similar to dine in prices, so when we are not too tired, we come here. Otherwise we would dine in at your competitors. Your competitor's happy hours might even be less expensive. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2018 and your success since you took over. And thanks for having a website now. BTW - You might still want to update your "About the Business" on Yelp.

    3 protein bowl
    Sally S.

overall tasty but very skimp on the protein - asked for 3 protein and it does not look like an $18 bowl - just salmon and ahi tuna - very disappointed

I would call it like - the chipotle of Poke Bowls lol But It was a little confusing how to order. I just grabbed a set bowl they had. I'm not picky about food and I enjoyed every bite. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do wish the space was cleaner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As a business owner I didn't always have the cleanest spaces and I recognize that in hindsight and this is kind of the thing that even if you didn't want to dine in, sticks out like a sore thumb That's why often I take photos of my reciept and the bathroom of spaces for my reviews. Poke for thought. I would come back but understanding that they probably don't have the freshes and best cuts but in a pinch it satisfies my poke needs

    California Roll

A solid sushi and poke takeout spot. I have been getting takeout from this place for the past few years and their food is very consistent. Price is reasonable and portion size is good. I stopped by to order their california roll and a drink a few weeks back and the wait was short. It took less than 15 minutes from ordering to food arrival. The California roll was decent and fresh and the drink was not too sweet. It's like a hole in the wall place and only take out orders are accepted.

    Unagi bowl
    Billy L.

First time I've seen a poke place that offers unagi as part of the poke bowl protein options. A lot of poke places that have unagi, they just serve it with rice. I prefer it has a poke bowl so I can have a little bit of everything. I also got spicy tuna with my poke bowl which was good. Everything tasted great and I would definitely come here again. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a take out place only. There are no tables inside to dine in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Interesting poke bowl with great protein selections such and eels and scallops. Pick whatever sauces please your taste buds and add extra topping to enhance the poke bowl Also good sushi roll selections. Service is great and fast. Take out only

"Poke Star Sushi" is located in the Marina Faire Shopping Center in San Leandro, CA. It's at the corner of Doolittle Drive & Fairway, next door to Subway Sandwiches. I tried this place on a weeknight just before closing. In fact, when I walked in the guy said they were closed. But he said if I ordered fast, they could quickly make it. So I scanned the menu, and I decided to get the- "Passion Salmon Roll" and a "Dragon Roll." As they made my rolls, they told me all about their business. He strongly suggested I order ahead of time using their website and come pickup my food. Those rolls were good. The ingredients were fresh and had no stale fishy smell. The presentation for takeout was neat and organized. This place is takeout or delivery only, as there's no dining room available. I don't know if they set up tables outside in the daytime. So why 4-stars? Because the restaurant looks untidy. The dining room is being used as a storage area, and there's stock everywhere. The restroom is not available to customers, so why not partition off that part of the restaurant so people can't see it? I'm not being picky! If a restaurant looks messy, that affects a customer's expectations. If you order delivery, this doesn't affect you. So, in summary, Poke Star serves good sushi rolls, has good service, but needs to tidy up their restaurant. Menu items include: - Poke Bowls - Sashimi/ Nigiri - Sushi Rolls - Bento Box - Soup, Salad, and Drinks Would I come again? Yes! - free parking in lot Support Local Business!

Oakland A's Tray (Spicy Tuna Roll, Shrimp Tempura roll, California Roll)
    Jill B.

First off - they only have take out. This is fine but this should be advertised. We took two cars out here so everyone could fit in our party and then had to drive all the way back home to eat it. If we had known there was no seating inside we could have just had someone pick up the food and all the kids playing at home instead of dragging everyone over there and back for nothing. As someone else mentioned the ambiance is lacking. It's pretty messy and has tons of boxes and stuff. The service is fine. It's hard to tell since they just take your order make it and hand it to you but it was fine. We ordered: Wow roll, Basil salmon roll, Oakland A's tray (spicy tuna roll, crunchy shrimp roll and California roll), Dragon roll and a salmon lover poke bowl. My favorites were the crunchy shrimp roll and the Dragon roll. I think we all liked the dragon roll the best. The sushi was good and presented nicely. I am guessing if the service was good and we could have sat down we might give it a 5 but it's not the same when you don't have the little ramekins to mix your wasabi and soy sauce in to dip your sushi in. I would come again but I would just send one car instead of two and pick it up. Then I would bring ramekins to my mom's since she doesn't have any.

    Build your own poke bowl
    Dayna M.

I went here to pick up lunch on a Thursday and there was no line. You can only order to go since they blocked off the seating area. I ordered a build your own Poke bowl by filling out a paper with my selections. Prices are about average for what I usually see for these types of bowls now a days. I ordered salmon, hamachi and scallops along with other toppings. The fish was okay not the freshest ever but also not the worst quality ever. I didn't really like that the scallops had the outer part still attached. I don't know if that's a normal thing but usually see it removed. If I need a quick bite to eat in this area I may return but not at the top of my list.

    So Hot Roll
    Vivian L.

Ordered for takeout and I got the tekka makki, so hot roll, and wow roll. The hot roll was the best one and it was spicy due to the sauce and the mini jalapeños - I love spicy anyway, so it was good to me! The other two rolls were fine as well. Decent size sushi. And the service was super fast!! Less than 15 minutes and the food was ready for takeout. They also provided utensils & soy sauce. There is a (free) parking lot too. I would order from here again.

    Poke bowl 3 Scoops Protein

Ordered online, there's no sit down area but service was fast, the poke bowl I ordered was filled to the brim!! Ordered a create your own 3 protein bowl: spring mix, salmon, shrimp, crab salad, with toppings: seaweed salad, tofu skin, oshinko, corn, cucumber, edamame, tamago, masago, crispy noodle, and avocado (+$1.25) with unagi sauce, total was around $19 I will keep coming back and I highly recommend this place to others in search of a yummy filling poke bowl!

cherry blossom - not real fresh tuna but decent enough. Heavily on sauce. Could have been better with thin slice of lemons and cherry
    Ruk G.

It has been a long while since I had it last. Got poke bowl to go as usual. Ordered almost same every time. The bowl shape had changed to shallow one ( used to be deep bowl) however the bowl was still fully loaded with ingredients and the still tasty. I finished my bowl as usual lol. The service was fast due to no line and yessss staffs were friendly greeted.

Since it was a birthday celebration we ordered agedashi tofu, gyoza, chirashi sushi, sake don, salmon lover roll, unagi hand roll, salmon skin hand roll, 2 - three item bento boxes (one with salmon teriyaki, chicken teriyaki and short ribs and the other with salmon teriyaki, sashimi and beef teriyaki. The service was attentive and everything was tasty and fresh. I enjoyed my salmon skin hand roll, my 3 item bento box with salmon teriyaki, 4 piece sashimi (2 tuna 2 salmon) and beef teriyaki. The sashimi was fresh and tender, however the beef was alittle chewy and not as tender as I expected. The complimentary birthday dessert was a tasty treat and we all shared. We got there around 7pm on a Friday. It was busy but we got sat pretty quickly. We ordered 2 miso soups, tofu, fatty combo sashimi, and 2 rolls. After about 30-45 min, we received our tea, miso soups, and the tofu appetizer. After about an hour, we got our sashimi. And after sitting for another 30 min, we decided it was time to cancel the rest and get our check. All the other tables were getting their food and we were just sitting there waiting. Waiting that long for food is unacceptable. And after all that, all we got was a sorry and "here's a 10% discount card for next time." I don't think there will be a next time.

My friend Holly drove all the way from Sacramento so I was keen to make the trip special in every way. Conveniently located, the restaurant accepts reservations, and there is an option to be seated at regular tables or in a lovely traditional Japanese styled seating area, where you dine seated cross legged! The only hitch is if you do plan to enjoy this seating you must come with socks. Lucky for us, we were able to buy a couple pair of nylons to enjoy the traditional set up! For dinner, we chose the omakase option, which is the chef's choice of some of the most fresh delicate and buttery sushi I've had in a long time. The size of the nigiri was just right, proportioned well with not too much rice and garnishes where it actually made sense as an enhancement, versus a detractor from the freshness of the fish. I also took a chance to order an appetizer of fried chicken knees! They were tasty and exactly how you might imagine them as gristly chewy and very satisfying for an adventurous eater like myself! We finished our meal with a lovely mound of mochi! The staff was so kind and very accommodating, especially after learning my friend had traveled so far to dine with them. I will definitely come back and wish them great success as an exceptional sushi experience in their local area.

After last night, it looks like I'll be looking for a new regular sushi place in the San Leandro area. I ordered a creamy scallop roll, lion king and miso soup over the phone as I always had but it seemed like the hostess didn't know what I was ordering because she said 3 different menu items before landing on the correct one. When I went to pick up, it took approx 40 mins from when I initially ordered. I can't penalize them for this though, because the inside of the restaurant was super busy with limited staff working. What I do knock down a point for is that the total price being a near $40! Normally that would be fine (though unusual for east bay pricing) if it was the size of old management's rolls but I was so disappointed with not only the quality but the size of the rolls as well. They fit two rolls into one box which was never done to me at Kigawa. For the first time ever since coming to this location for years, I had a mild stomach ache post eating. They also no longer have the fried oysters I used to love coming here for so I just have no incentive to return. I likely won't be coming again until new management can sort out their issues in the meantime. Only warranting it 2 stars despite any positives because there's always room for improvement and I have a soft spot for new businesses getting situated. Otherwise, it's just become another generic mid tier, expensive sushi spot in east bay with no menu item that stands out but the one pro being the better wifi connection that the old spot didn't have.
