I love this bakery. It is located in a small outdoor shopping mall with free parking. Everything here is delicious and reasonably priced. Staff at the store are friendly and efficient. There is a tiny eat in place. I usually buy their red bean bun, coconut twist, and white Chocolate loaf (Of course they are the best when freshly baked, however, they stock up well in freezer). They offer savory breads too if that is more of your preference. I like their egg tart, cheese bites and mango cheese cake also! IMO, I feel like their drinks are a bit too sweet ( personal preference). Be sure to download an app for special monthly offers and rewards. read more

This is my final stop on the gluten challenge tour. We got the guava cheese pastry, the mango custard bun, coconut bun, red bean matcha roll, choco bun, and the Hokkaido milk bun. Guava cheese pastry has guava jam inside. Not much filling but the flavor is quite strong. No cheese to speak of. Mango custard bun smells strongly of mango but the flavor is more subtle. It's mango all throughout though. Coconut bun was by far the strongest flavor, really generous amount of creamy custard coconut filling. Matcha red bean roll is filled with whipped cream. It has the green tea flavor but it's very subtle. The red bean is few and far between. The choco bun was chocolatey, with a pudding consistency of filling. The bun had a cocoa flavor. Strong flavor of chocolate throughout. The Hokkaido bun was filled with whipped cream which was unexpected. Underneath the cream is some sort of white bean paste The cream filling is like a really good hostess filling. It's self serve. A lot of similar places have you grab the pastries with tongs, but here they put them in plastic which is a relief in terms of germ spreading potential. Line went quickly. Tons of options. Tons of savories too and lots of drinks. They were constantly replacing and bringing out fresh pastries. They did so 3-4 times in the 10 mins we were there so you know when you go the pastries won't be stale or old. read more

This is a small 85 C bakery/ cafe in the San Leandro Plaza shopping center. Actually, it looked bigger from the outside. I was there at around 12-Noon on a Friday. There seemed to be a fair amount of baked goods for sale. A fellow Yelper told me I should try their Mochi Egg Tarts, so I made it a point to get some of those. So I got- Mochi Egg Tarts, Strawberry cake, and Sugared Cream Cheese Brioche. Service was nice and polite. Checkout is quick with tap and pay. They have a few tables along the wall. So the Mochi Egg Tarts were very good. Creamy egg, flaky crust, and a dose of sweetness. However, the Sugared Cream Cheese Brioche wasn't sweet at all. I was a little surprised at how plain it was. The Strawberry cake was okay. I wanted to get a Chocolate Cream Roll. In San Leandro, the Sheng Kee Bakery is only 3 miles away. Ordered savory, sweet and cake trays to be picked up at 7:30am. Arrived at 7:45am and the order wasnt ready yet. A lot of pastries weren't out yet as they were just coming out hot and ready. The location of the bread seems to be facing the sun so some pastries with a fresh strawberries were getting condensation in the plastic bag that it was wrapped in. I've noticed that the popular items such as Brioche loaf, Pineapple buns often has 2 shelves, so if those are your favorites, this location has plenty. Service is always pleasant & friendly, so this location is where I like to get my buns & 85 degree coffee. Pastries & Drinks: Brioche Bread-slight sugary crust on top w/a pillow soft bread. This loaf can last me a few days so this is budget friendly & a consistent purchase. Coffee Cruffin-a coffee cream infused inside this croissant muffin. My daughter enjoyed it with a nice coffee flavor, but I would just stick to my usual Brioche Bread. I've been here a few times and they always had everything in stock! There are a tons of pastries and desserts that are tasty! I've also ordered 2 cakes from here: the mango crème brûlée & the red velvet! Both were good! I also like that they give candles, a HBD chocolate sign, and a plastic knife/serving utensils. Since this 85C is conveniently located within a short walking distance from San Leandro BART station, I came by on Friday around 6pm. The store was pretty empty and there was only a quick wait to order, though it did take another 3 minutes or so for the drink to be made since there were two other drink orders ahead of me. I got my usual iced large sea salt matcha latte with 25% sweetness, which I consider to be a good level if you don't want it sweet. Although I can taste the matcha, I wish the matcha was even stronger, but if you enjoy the cream, there was a generous amount of the cream on top. It is a little hard to mix it into the drink using the straw they provide, though. I also got the matcha chocolate bun, which is one of my favorite items here as it's sweet but not too much so, and has the rich savoriness of both matcha and chocolate. I decided on a whim to try the fudge nut brownie cookies since it was only around $2.50 for the pack of two (you can't get a single cookie, they come packaged as two). I really liked them a lot, they're the right level of crispy since I prefer my cookies more crunchy rather than soft, and they're super chocolatey. They truly do feel like walnut brownies in cookie form. It definitely makes me more interested in getting cookies from them in the future. read more

I have loved 85 since college and it has still never let me down. Most times, I'm craving the chocolate chip bread (the literal best thing when it's fresh so it's warm and fluffy!). Have been a fan of 85C for many many years, and this location is always the most convenient for me. Always appreciate their milk tea with foam, and love their pastries. Not as good as Porto's in Socal, but a very solid Asian bakery. You can get like 7 pastries for about $18 ish. Pros: - post-covid everything is already individually wrapped, which I think helps with infection control (even if it does use a lot of plastic). - Lots of variety, and it changes frequently and they'll bring out "FRESH BREAD!" intermittently as they shout that haha - has a separate drink order kiosk now to help with congestion - wide variety of sweet and savory pastries - pretty reliable egg tarts - very efficient cashiers, I think most of the time if there's a long wait in line it's because a customer is not being efficient, not the staff. - Has a few tables to sit if you want to eat in - close to a lot of other establishments, so easy to go here before or after a meal etc. Cons: - not many! other than if you go too late in the day there can be less selection, so go earlier in the day if you can! read more

I love their assortment of breads, pastries and cakes. I decided to try their mocha coffee today and honestly, it wasn't that great. It just tasted like watered down coffee, no mocha taste, no sugar either. My husband got one of the sea salt coffees and that tasted way better. I love the more savory breads/pastries but they have this brioche loaf that is soooo yummy. Their garlic cheese bread is also really good and my daughters love the chocolate cake roll. I do appreciate the wide selection of breads, pastries, cakes, and drinks they offer. During our most recent visit, we picked up our usual order. My husband loves the Hokkaido custard bun, but this time he found an unexpected surprise, a piping tip. Fortunately, it wasn't the metal kind. We reached out to the team, and they were apologetic and offered a complimentary cake slice and drink. Having been to five locations in the Bay Area and two in Las Vegas, somehow I haven't been to the location closest to me in San Leandro Plaza, until recently. This location is smaller than the locations that I've visited. The selection is not as extensive and some of my favorites were not made here. I asked the clerk about the taro puff pastry, ube bread, and custard milk bun and he said they don't have those here. So I got some of my other favorites, marble taro and mochi custard tarts. Checking my 85°C app, they had some 50% off offers, so I decided to also get the cinnamon roll. Good to have 85°C within a short drive away. My husband ordered my favorite Red Velvet Cake from here for my recent birthday. It did not disappoint!! It was perfect; three layers of moist & flavorful cake, and creamy frosting. Beautifully decorated with fresh strawberry halves and whipped cream rosettes. It was the epitome of a birthday cake! Even came with candles AND the thoughtfully designed box that it came in was very user-friendly; you easily slide the cake out & back in after cutting slices, and it had carrying handles on top! While looking for a Chevron on Davis St. to fill up before heading on a 4hr road trip, we wanted some Scooby snacks to pick up. Regardless the driver made it clear that she's boycotted 85°C Bakery Cafe (85°C) for personal reasons, several of us kept on chanting "85°C, 85°C." where clearly we wanted their delicious baked goodies. Long story short, the driver gave in. Two of us hopped out of the car and grabbed a tray. We both were in hunt for their irresistible Marble Taro Bread, which is my personal favorite. We have two 85°C locations back at home in Hawaii and the location at Ala Moana Center tends to have a limited selection supply when I arrive, which is usually in the afternoons. On my last visit to 85°C, I was bummed the Mable Taro Bread sold out so we both made a beeline to their display location until we found them. There were only 3 left so I took them all. The next thing we started to place other goodies on the tray before heading to the cashier. The piggy in me didn't want to share the Marble Taro Bread so I asked the male staff behind the counter if they had any more, but unfortunately that was it for the day. He rung up our purchase and bagged our haul. The 85°C goodies weren't eaten until the next day along with our home cooked breakfast of Eggs Benedict that was absolutely delicious. I declined on having seconds as I really wanted the Marble Taro Bread. The roll was still soft and moist, and the mashed taro inside was perfect - - it wasn't overpoweringly sweet nor savory. The balance was excellent and the next thing I know the Marble Taro Bread disappeared within minutes. Sad face. For more dessert I also had 85°C egg tart that was also delicious. It popped out of the liner easily and the bottom of the egg tart still had that nice crusty exterior and not soggy that sometimes happen when egg tarts are not eaten fresh. Overall, a very satisfying visit at 85°C where I walked out with what I wanted to eat. Quality of their goods are consistent, the store layout was welcoming, spacious and sufficient lighting, and with friendly customer service. read more

I also got the Guava Cheese pastry for my boyfriend's dad who's going through chemo, who loves anything guava. They were set to close but the store looked well stocked and clean. Sadly this is the third time I've visited in the past three months and they are always sold out of the Cheesey Hot Dog Bread which I love but that's okay. I see why this place had a little bit of a line. A friend told me about this place a while ago near fremont. Fremont is a bit out of the way for me, and san leandro is less out of the way. I picked my battle. Upon entry my eyes immediately went to a coconut cream dessert. It's a nice size, and had i had self control i would have saved some for myself for coffee this morning. I kept going back to cut a portion off, but there was no point. I love the flavor of coconut, but I couldn't care less for the shreds. Luckily, there were few shreds. I mean, i counted maybe 3. The coconut flavor is light as well - not overpoweringly sweet so it does still taste like coconut. Anyway, my body tells me that i need two next time but my mind is saying let's decide once we cross that bridge. Next up was a new edition - their honey cake. It's very light in flavor and creme. It's thin layers of sponge cake and cream. It went well with my coffee. Last, i tried their strawberry shortcake, or at least that's what i believe it's called. Now while it was good, i'm looking for delicious. The last time i had a strawberry shortcake i truly enjoyed it was from the now closed Merritt Bakery. read more

I stopped by here at 1 pm and got one of the cheese dog breads. The sausage tasted slightly strange and late that evening I ended up with pretty strong stomach symptoms. The timing lines up with cooked meat borne bacteria. I'm healthy and have a very strong stomach so I got through it reasonably well. I'm not personally that upset but I do worry about someone like a child or elderly person as it would hit them much harder. I'm sharing and hoping someone from this store reads it, in case it helps them check on their food handling practices. I've had good experiences here otherwise. read more
