Had appt made for pre TSA. We have a trip back home for a memorial service, wanted to make sure…read moregetting through the gates was a little simpler. Arrived at the desk at 1130 am, greeted by the front desk and asked for my passport. "I'm not leaving the USA. I am going to Hawaii. It's apart of the United states. I did bring my birth certificate, ID and marriage license." *note picture attached* Debra, the pre TSA rep tells me, " You need your passport for this." I brought the email, which plainly states what is needed and passport is not one. I show her the email. *once again, see picture attached* She asked another customer, "Right? Bring your passport?" Then Debra very rudely says, "Do you want my help or not." (Obviously I do, I made the appt..... )She proceeds to say, "Well, you can either bring your passport of original birth certificate..." Seriously, this lady... I worry the people they have employed to screen others... was not seen until after my 1 pm appt. I was told I could come early and be considered a walk in. Would have preferred to have been told, "come come back" then wait for over and hour and half. I told the girl at the desk, it would've been more considerate to explain to customers that they will have a wait. Then a gentleman came in asking if he could be seen earlier and they let him know right off it's a wait and they schedule up to 3 people at a time every 20 min.

Came here on a Saturday without an appointment. Was expecting a wait. Got here around 10:30, out of…read morehere by 12:30. Make sure you complete the pre-enrollment process before you get here -- it speeds up things for everyone. The sign-in process was unnecessarily confusing. There wasn't anyone at the front desk - which is also the same reception for H&R Block - and there were papers strewn everywhere that should've been put away, because they said contradictory things: - No walk-ins until 2pm - They are not taking walk-ins today - There's a separate sign in sheet for walk-ins vs appointments - Etc. Super confusing. I ended up asking the guy what to do - he said to just sign in. Apparently there's only 1 sign-in sheet (not two like the paper said) and you can mark if you have an appointment or not. If you're applying for more than 1 person, make sure you write down everyone's names (or else the administrator won't count you, and you'll be bumped down the line). We had a few appointments cancel, so that made things go a bit faster. Once you're actually in the hot seat, it takes less than 5 minutes to do the whole she-bang. The administrator explained that it's the elderly who take way longer; their finger pads have been worn down, so it's harder to finger print them. Glad I don't have to go back here for another 5 years. The administrator was super nice at least.

The incompetence of these screeners worries me as a traveler. There is a reason it has only 2 stars. BE AWARE.

He used racially charged and vulgar language toward her, repeatedly called her "stupid," and referred to her using profane and derogatory terms, including the "B-word." He assumed she was driving illegally without any basis and attempted to intimidate her by loudly identifying himself as a police officer, clapping his hands aggressively, and escalating the situation. A woman who identified herself as his girlfriend and who stated she was also an officer from Danville who was also off duty, arrived on the scene and was witnessed telling Officer Williams to calm down due to his erratic behavior. They both later provided false information to CHP about who was at fault for the accident. After researching we could only find her last name has the letters BAN in it. This kind of conduct is unacceptable, especially from someone entrusted with upholding the law. Officer Williams' actions were not only unprofessional but dangerous and discriminatory. Behavior like this undermines public trust and raises serious concerns about his fitness to serve as a law enforcement officer

Justice for Tyrrell... Will it even be served? This officer has killed more than twice with no consequences, how many in this DPT murder?

Having to approach the SSA is nearly as dreaded as having to go to the DMV…read more Here's how I managed to have a 5-star experience at the Berkeley SSA office today:   1 - I did not have an appointment so I made the effort to arrive at the office front door 15 minutes before opening (8:45 am); 2- While you're waiting for the office to open, you'll see a flyer posted on the front door.  The flyer has a QR code for checking in.  Even without an appointment, I scanned the QR code, after which I was prompted with some questions (such as purpose of visit and etc). Once done, their system sent a new QR code to my phone (to be used once the doors open). 3- Once the doors opened, I approached the "check-in kiosk" inside (once you walk in, turn to your left and you'll see the kiosk).  The kiosk will prompt you to scan the QR code given to your phone (see #2 above). 4- Once the system scans your QR code, it will issue you a paper ticket with an appt number. 5- I took my ticket and found a seat.  By this time, the waiting room was about 1/3 full. 6- In less than 5 minutes later when my number was called, I approached the Window I was told to go to, sat down and received outstanding service, guidance, etc.  All my questions were answered very clearly and concisely .  In another 10 minutes I had everything I needed and left the building. I noticed that by this time (9:15), the waiting room was full.  It definitely pays to get there early! 7- remember to bring your gov't-issued ID, and some method for taking notes in case there are some followup steps you'll need to take.

The process requires patience, but the structure and order in place help ensure that requests are handled accurately and securely. I found the staff to be efficient and attentive, working steadily to move people through the process while still taking the time to answer questions clearly. Their effort to maintain organization in a busy environment was noticeable, and it helped create a sense that each case was being handled with care and responsibility. It's clear that the staff carry a significant workload, and their consistency and focus reflect a strong commitment to public service. Even under pressure, they maintained composure and professionalism, which made the experience more manageable. Overall, the office serves an important role in supporting the public, and the efficiency and effort demonstrated by the staff contribute meaningfully to providing reliable assistance.
