The Lafayette was indeed the perfect getaway. On top of the beautiful craftsmanship and decor, every employee I had the pleasure of meeting was very amicable. The front desk staff went above and beyond, Lori was wonderful with information when we checked in. The hotel does definately have some vibes going on! But anything w history really does. Our room was cozy, comfortable, and clean. The furnishings were gorgeous. The balcony on our room gave us a beautiful view of the river. They are also pet friendly We will definately return. Beautiful old hotel overlooking the river and located in downtown Marietta within walking distance of stores and museums. The room was clan and reasonably priced for two twin beds. The bathroom was small but the shower had good pressure and felt great after walking all day. We are a couple of meals at the hotel bar. The food was very good. I enjoyed the smothered chicken with Brussel sprouts. Amber was the bartender both nights we stayed there. She quickly took drink and food orders with a fun personality. We took drinks up to the third floor brood area that had tables and chairs. A good view of passing boats. We also had breakfast in the Gun Room. Solid food and quick, friendly service. If in Marietta again, I'd definitely return to stay. read more

This is an old hotel in downtown Marietta that has been redone inside and is very quaint and reminiscence of the era. It was a long time ago. We decided to spend the night in a corner balcony room after talking about it for years - excellent choice! The views of the river are wonderful, and the walking trail starting right outside the hotel is beautiful. The people were kind, helpful and informative. The Traditional Breakfast in the Gun Room was really something. The pancakes were possibly the best we've ever had! A great final touch to our river road trip. read more

This is a great location if your staying in Marietta! This is an older hotel, so bathrooms are smaller and corridors a little close than a newer motel. However it was well worth the stay! I have stayed at The Lafayette Hotel twice now. Our first time was in one of their cabin rooms, the cheapest option and the second time was in the Riverview King Penthouse, which felt like a different hotel altogether. If you can afford it, the Riverview King Penthouse was absolutely amazing. I felt like an actress in the 1920's and I have never seen a hotel bathroom so sparkling clean. The Jacuzzi Tub is as big as a hot tub and from you're room you get 180 degree views of the beautiful Ohio River. The hotel is perfectly situated within a walkable distance to all the little shops and restaurants in town. Parking is super convenient, there is a small lot next to the hotel where you self park. There are two restaurants and a Starbucks conveniently located inside of the hotel. I have only dined at the Riverfront Bar & Grill. The menu was intriguing and the service was great but I felt the food really lacked the kind of elegance and flavor the menu portrays. Maybe try The Gun Room? All in all, if you're staying in Marietta, this is your place. There's a lot of bang for your buck and you can't beat the convenience of all of The Lafayettes many amenities! read more

Lovely riverside hotel with easy access to downtown Marietta. I think they had a busy weekend when we checked in, as we opened the door to find the room was not cleaned. Since it was afternoon on a weekend, the only option was a new room, which meant we unfortunately lost our beautiful view. The Sunday morning staff took great care of us upon checkout, but gotta admit, the Saturday staff was a bit "it is what it is" about moving to standard room vs. our preferred room. Highlight of the stay was the Gun Room bar and the Manhattan! We also enjoyed the Sunday morning buffet, and service there was outstanding. As a local, I have grown up going to this hotel for parties, firework watching, and dinners with friends. In the past year this hotel has taken on a whole new meaning as I traveled from out of town and had to stay multiple times. The first time was an impromptu stop for a week over the summer, and I felt like family as I came and went. Everyone was so friendly, and made sure that I was taken care of from coffee to a complimentary nightcap. Most recently I stayed and held a memorial event in the banquet room. We stayed in the penthouse suites with my kids and my mother-in-law and the area was perfect for us as we planned for the event and celebrated together. If you are looking for something like a normal new hotel, you won't find that here... But if you are looking for our old style charm, that is truly "Marietta" this is the place! read more

Upon arrival the Hotel informed me they had no record of receiving any payment, and I was forced to pay $109.48 if I wanted a room for the night. Now someone is suggesting they are "lounge charges"; however, we made no purchases from the lounge. Any lounge charges are totally untrue. The $109.48 was the rate I paid for room 308 on 3/1/24 - I need my $129.45 refunded Notice the tax rate is 5.03% on ticket 1, 7.75% on ticket 2, and TAX FoREE on ticket 3 of these phony receipts. Food was decent but service was super slow. We went in a huge hurry which was good because our lunch took over 2 hours. Single bartender who was also waiting on all the tables by herself. She did the best she could. I will say the back throughway to get to the restrooms had an absolutely awful smell. The Lafayette is a wonderful getaway. The hotel is clean and comfortable. Some of the rooms are small, and all are beautifully decorated. The Riverfront grill and bar is a lot of fun. I am a fan! This hotel doesn't have some of the modern touches of newer hotels but that is why you stay here. You come for the charm of a classic hotel in a prime location. The rooms are on the small side but they still have everything you need. I also like that they are dog friendly and the hotel doesn't charge extra for your pet other than a refundable deposit. The staff were very friendly and welcoming - be sure to visit the restaurant that is on-site and enjoy a walk around the historic downtown core. read more

I was in town last week on business and wanted a change of pace from the upcoming 3 Star cookie-cutter hotels coming up in Columbus and Michigan City. These chain establishments are also available off the Marietta exit or in nearby Parkersburg WV. On a previous company river outing, I had spotted the Lafayette Hotel and hoped to stay there some day. This trip was my chance and at under $90/Night (King with River View), the deal was sealed. In fact, Edgar V. couldn't have gotten a better price! The historic Lafayette Hotel the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers and is in the heart of downtown Marietta (the oldest city in Ohio). It is one of the last riverboat-era hotels and opened on July 1, 1918. It was named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, who visited the city in 1825 at a site near the hotel. He has since been regarded as Marietta's first tourist. The Lafayette is something of a community gathering spot, especially in the Lobby and the Bar. The ground floor facilities are huge and if you need a meeting space or a place to hold a big wedding reception, this place has it. The Lafayette also anchors the shopping and historical district, which seems to be economically struggling and a little empty this time of year (especially on nearby Putnam Street). My room was nicely appointed and featured a 4 poster bed that had a foot stool to help me up. The desk and TV cabinet were all antique and it was nice to just sit down, relax and take it all in. At the same time, I agree with another reviewer as the bathrooms are surprisingly industrial for rooms of this caliber. And although the hotel service was adequate, it certainly didn't match the elegance and charm of the facility. read more

From the view on Front street, to the richly decorated lobby and Gun Room, to the ... phone booths! My daughters wanted their picture taken in the phone booths. No more phone in there, but charming nonetheless. Whenever we visit Marietta, my adopted home town, we visit the Lafayette even if we are not staying there. To sit in her lobby and enjoy the view of the Ohio River is to savor a time of life when simple luxuries, like a thickly upholstered chair, could bring relief from daily hardships that were common when the Lafayette was built. Our vacation feels real when we sit in the Lafayette's lobby chairs and soak up her old river charm. And our continued possession of those memories makes them all the more charming. read more

We are no strangers to the Lafayette, as we cannot count the times we have stayed and/or dined there. This review is strictly for our latest and not so greatest review of the Riverfront bar and grille. Date 8/22/2020 6:13pm We walked into the restaurant not to be greeted by anyone. Three tables already were taken leaving a few high top tables and one regular table. We had to ask the bartender if we could get a table, she went on to say we have to wait till they clean the table. Several minutes we were seated. To our surprise the windows were cranked open. Cobwebs and dirt blowing in on our table. Seriously! That was not the worst... smokers were standing outside the windows and all the smoke blew right in. That ruined any good vibes. Next we were handed a menu. Due to COVID the menu was severely cut down. Down to basics like potato skins, wings, and dip for starters. Really? Remind me again... are we dinning at the local wing stop? The best the chef can do is liver and onions, catfish, fettuccine Alfredo or a steak with blue cheese. Really???? Did a chef quit and they opted for a backstreet line cook? Yes... it matters! So unfortunately we ordered cause we were tired after driving all day. No reservations at any of the upscale restaurants. We both ordered the blue steak with mashed potatoes and "summer veggie". Where are the rolls? Butter? Salad? We asked and were told " We don't do that anymore!" The steaks were cooked a decent medium as requested. Blue cheese was just a sprinkle. Mashed potatoes were good if a little salt was added. Summer veggies was ... wait for it... Steamed broccoli with 3 small cubes of yellow squash. Ok. I admit it was ok. Definitely not the dishes we had here before. The final straw..... the famous cheesecake..... We were brought a slice to our table by our not so friendly waitress who looked like she hated her job. Brieanna I believe. Dropped the plate at the table and ran away to charge my credit card the purchase of our meals and our $5 cheesecake that should have been called a penicillin experiment gone to far. When told about it they told us just to eat it anyways. It's part of the crust. Ummm NO! We laughed and let it set. We gave a nice tip regardless. But we will never return. read more

Loved that the hotel was so historic (and haunted)! Room was clean and maid service occurred every day. We did have 3 in our room (King Parlor) and I had to go to the front desk every day to ask for an extra set of towels. We had plenty of room for 3. I slept on sofa bed and mattress was so thin! I asked for a rollaway and put that mattress on top of the sofa bed. Much better! We are in the Gun Room each morning and the food was very good; so was staff. Best kept secret is the roof top! read more

The free continental breakfast was such a great plus it was actually breakfast you got to order what you wanted and how you wanted it cooked. This review is for the hotel stay not dining experience as we did not eat at our hotel. We did enjoy our stay in the Penthouse Suite. We had great views of the river from two sides, a comfy bed and a large jacuzzi tub. We had drinks and played cards on the rooftop deck that was conveniently only steps away. The hotel staff were friendly and the room was clean. I would've like more comfortable seating area in the room as the period pieces had more visual appeal than posterior support. The bed was positioned close to the room door and hallway noise snuck in. These small niggles don't make a dent into the transformative nature of this hotel on the river. read more

Gun Room was so short staffed customers started helping out pouring coffee etc. Food was good. Ambiance dark and dated. Cable service was terrible! Musty old rundown rooms. Air conditioning is not on when you get there FYI, turn the 5k BTU window unit on and wait for relief or go to the bar. The cabin room is so small you have to maneuver around the bed although they do warn you of that. Craziest thing is you have to request a refrigerator or it does not come standard, however, the cabin room is so small we put it in the bathroom and it wasn't even cold by the time we checked out the next morning. Old and outdated carpeting in the bedrooms are so disgusting that I wouldn't be putting my suitcase down for fear that travelers might join. It did not appear to be dirty however it's just so old and dilapidated you can see that the building has taken on many water leaks throughout the years although it's a historic building and very beautiful I think that it's meant for people to experience their childhood again. One star for welcoming staff. Bar was nice and some parts looked updated but rooms- yuck. Food looked good but we at at Austyns across the street which is amazing! read more

We are staying here at the Hotel. Breakfast was great and the service was also really good. We decided the try The Gun room for dinner. Long day out and just wanted to relax. Sat at our table at 715. I ordered one drink prior to dinner. Had the Chef Salad with steak. The steak was really good. My daughter had the chicken salad and she also enjoyed her food. I felt like we were being rushed by I had no idea why? Just kinda ignored it. A larger party came in beside us and I heard the waitress along with the host talking. He told her to "hurrying and get the people in and hurry them out" I was so shocked. Then the waitress told the larger party coming from church mass that the comedy show starts at 9pm and asked them if they would be done with their dinner by that time before the "comedy show" the one woman said I would imagine we I'll be done within an hour and a half. Two options here. 1. Don't allow seating after a certain time and post a sign in the lobby. 2. Don't start the comedy shows until 10pm since they are adult and let your hotel guest eat a peaceful relaxing dinner. I am staying the night here and didn't even know you had a comedy show tonight. read more

I rate this 5 stars purely on value. If my room were twice the cost, I would still give it 4 stars. I paid $65 for the night, I don't know how you can go wrong for that price. The room was clean and had enough space. The water pressure in the bathroom was surprisingly good, especially given how old the building is. Our bed was very comfortable. It was a great room with a nice victorian/antique feel to it. I have stayed at places with similar rooms for $200 and haven't been as impressed. It was in a nice location and the noise level was good our night. The whole place had a steam boat theme to it, it was cool. The breakfasts we saw looked great, but we didn't have time to eat there. I will go out of my way to stay here again at some point. read more

It's nothing spectacular but serves its purpose as a convenient location for certain nephews who roll out of their bed drunk in the morning and have to meet a certain Aunt for breakfast. *spray cologne, rinse mouth w/ Listerine, hide underneath fashionable hat* The decor creates the feeling that you're in the dining room of an old Riverboat (ya know, with the big red wheel on the stern). I feel like we should all be smoking cigars, cheating at poker, and swooning ladies into our bedrooms. The food is mediocre at best - there was nothing too exciting on the menu so I just randomly picked the eggs Benedict. Literally SWIMMING in butter, it was tasty but I'm sure quite unhealthy. It was served with a side dish of fresh fruit which I absolutely ignored. Obvi. The service was slow and awkward. Our waitress was nice but she would suddenly appear and disappear without warning. She'd return to our table in a huff because someone on some floor ordered room service - srzly? They have you working the whole dining room AND running food service deliveries? Srzly?? She would apologize and then be off to get annoyed with some other guest upstairs. Three stars for the adequate food, convenience, and the fact this was the first time in ages that I had seen a brunch for two plus tax & tip cost under $20. While in the Riverview Lounge I had the Boston scrod (lightly battered and sautéed with white wine, lemon juice, scallions, mushrooms, and almonds over white rice). Literally applauded the meal when I was done. Boyfriend got the BLT mac'n'cheese. Huge portion. Bacon-y amazingness. We then split (read: I are most of) two desserts: the creme brûlée (definitely a one-person dessert) and the flourless chocolate cake. The cheesecake looked divine... Next time. With a Gewürztraminer white and two reds (forgot what he ordered) the bill came to $55 and change before tip. We then got our room. Lowest rated rooms are $65 and $85. Cozy, wonderfully nautical. Dogs allowed! On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in the Gun Room they offer a traditional American breakfast for free! My breakfast: scrambled eggs, crispy home fries, ham, and whole wheat toast with coffee. His breakfast: over easy eggs, hash browns, bacon, and wheat toast with coffee. We left a $5 tip. Loved it! This place has steamboats on everything. I especially appreciated their custom-made rug in the lobby with steamboats and the letter L. The place is chock full of history. Also, it's haunted. It's apparently been on a whole bunch of ghost hunter shows. Walking distance to everything in town. I highly recommend you go when the weather is nice because I imagine the views are wonderful, but a snowy Valentines Day was perfect for me! read more

We are first time visitors to Marietta and are staying at the hotel so decided to eat in their Riverfront Bar and Grill. The menu had a lot of great choices from soup and salad, to pub fare as well as full dinners. We started with the loaded potato skins for an app then I moved on to the walnut and apple salad (with cranberries and goat cheese), and DH had the fish and fries. The skins were big and delicious with the right amount of toppings. The salad was super fresh, with plenty of walnuts, dried cranberries and sliced apples and with the pomegranate dressing was delicious. It was light on the goat cheese though. The fried cod was very good and the accompanying French fries were excellent with an unusual cut, like a cross between spiral cut and steak fry--resulting in a thick cut spiral--it was perfectly cooked and really delicious. Service was very good considering they are a bit shorthanded, and being an elegant historic hotel the ambiance was very nice with a beautiful three sided carved bar dominating the room. We sat at a table with a lovely view of the Ohio River. Prices are quite reasonable. Would definitely dine here again. read more

The Lafayette is a historic hotel in the center of Marietta overlooking the river where riverboats moor. We loved our stay there. Like all historic places, there are pluses and minuses . The pluses first. The Staff! Rooms were immaculate and I mean clean. I am the kind of person who looks in corners so you can be assured that you will be happy with housekeeping. The front desk staff are, to a woman, helpful, kind and enthusiastic. One lady told us a parade was happening right out front and took us out to show us where to stand. It was a great parade, by the way. Julie , in the bar, is funny, helpful, hardworking and remembers what you ordered yesterday. I love her sense of humor.She works 7 days a week but you would never know it. The staff in the Gun Room work very very hard in spite of challenges. Respect. Our rooms were riverview and this was a real treat as 17 riverboats and a huge touring boat tied up in front of our eyes. The beds were comfortable. A few things made our trip challenging. At 1AM one night the fire alarm woke us and we all had to troop downstairs. It was a real, if minor, fire and we got back to bed but not to sleep after about 45 minutes. The restaurant was, as they say , " in the weeds" on Monday. I truly do not know what was happening backstage but our breakfast took almost an hour . Our server was almost in tears and really wanted to do better. Many people were very very rude and unkind to the staff who couldn't help it. So as you can see, The Lafayette is not perfect. The history of the this restaurant is evident in the decor. Our waiter served me dinner the night before in the lounge. I found the staff cooks, waiter, bartender to be friendly and professional.
