After having brought my cats here many times since my last review, I can honestly say this is the best vet I have ever trusted. My kitty once developed a goopy pink discharge in her eye due to being bapped by my other cat. I called and they fit me in that night at 830pm. The veterinarian was very gentle with my baby and did a very thorough checkup. Turns out my kitty was quickly forming an ulcer which we caught very early. We were able to heal it within a week! Turns out the place is open 24/7 so they're the best for emergencies. I also highly recommend this vet for their dental work. My kitty had to have a few teeth extracted and the vet took before, during, and after pictures that were texted to me for reassurance. They did an amazing job on the stitching and she had no post surgical issues. Overall this is hands down the best vet in Lafayette. read more

Do Not bring dogs with a traumatic past here. I brought my girl here and we adopted her about 5-6 years ago from a shelter who saved her from an abusive environment. I communicated to the techs that she is very skittish and has came from an abusive home. They either disregarded this remark or didn't have the necessary experience to understand the situation and handled her just as any dog. Due to this she did react negatively and bit a tech. They then came back and told me I was lucky that it didn't cause any bleeding otherwise they would've quarantined her at the pound. I am not sure how more clear I could be saying this dog came from an abused home and is skittish. She has never bitten anyone as long as I've had her but how my communication was disregarded and how she was handled escalated the situation unnecessarily which almost resulted the to quarantining my dog. read more

We have taken my first dog here for the past 2 years with no issues. However, whenever my partner and I got our puppy, things started to go downhill. We had her put in the daycare program this care center and one day when I picked her up, she was sneezing, coughing and had a runny nose. The daycare staff didn't mention anything to me and my other dog also quickly started sneezing and coughing. My puppy contracted kennel cough from either another infected dog or contaminated surface/object and brought it to my other dog from the daycare. They were both diagnosed with kennel cough here. Then in a recent visit about a few weeks ago, I believe it was a vet tech who asked me if I wanted to get bloodwork done on a general wellness visit on one of my dogs. I declined, saying that he needed to get it done anyway soon in another visit. She insisted on telling me it would be cheaper to do it now and kept pressing me on it. I said I'd think about it. When we went to the room with the Dr., I told her (the doctor) that I'd like to wait on his bloodwork because we'd have to do it again and I'd like less stress for him, even if it would be more expensive to wait. She looked at me and said it wouldn't be more expensive to wait, that it would cost the same. That blew my mind. I understand that mistakes happen, but that made me feel very uncomfortable. I've never had an experience like that here. And the final straw happened last week. I boarded both of our dogs there for the weekend for the first time. One of them came back just fine, but the other has had diarrhea for a week straight. My partner and I both called, he was told it didn't sound like it was an emergency because she had no other symptoms. He called again a day or so later and was told she should've been brought in. We came in and did not get a definitive answer other than it was probably the stress of the boarding. I was told the dogs had a great time. A week of pure liquid being sprayed out of the wrong end tells me otherwise. I asked the vet to do a fecal test on her to be safe, to which he agreed, but he did not do it. Now our other dog is also ill and having awful diarrhea. We also disclosed that she was in heat, which is unfortunate because she needs to be spayed. For this appointment we had a different Dr. He said he actually preferred animals to be in heat for a spay because it elongates their uterus. What he did not mention is that spaying while in heat is generally not recommended and poses severe health risks (such as excessive bleeding). I had received a second opinion from another vet and was informed of the risks. I would never put my puppy in a situation where her life could be at risk for a matter of convenience. We are old and live quite a distance away. Arrived, only to be told that the vaccine was not available. When we asked WHY no one had just called to tell us that, they LIED to our face and said that they didn't have our phone number. We were traveling and our 12 year old schnauzer started vomiting foam and having bloody diarrhea. I'm so glad I found this place on yelp. They were very professional and the facility was very clean. I was so impressed by the professionalism and seriousness of the nurses and doctors on staff . I mother's dog went in the road and got road burns and bruising on head and chest. I sister ran the me about the dog getting bumped. I said: where is he ? Is he dead . I ran to pick him up as oncoming traffic was coming even a eighteen wheeler . The dog passed out. I woke him up as I called his name . I cleaned his bloody scraped nose and asked my mother to call the Lafayette animal clinic, they said bring him in . They have 24 hour service! Dr. Patrick is the best! We have been extremely satisfied with the level of veterinary care we have received since bringing our dog here. Our dog had a very bad hernia and Dr. Patrick was the only vet we could find who would do the surgery. The surgery was a success and we have since brought our other dogs here. I wish I could find a doctor like Dr. Patrick for myself. There have been a few hiccups on the customer service side of things, but all of the issues have been addressed and resolved in a professional manner. We also board our dogs here and overall it has been a good experience. The first time there was an issue with the condition we received our dogs when we picked them up, but their customer service team took care of it and made things right. Would rate this place a 0 if I could. Brought in my pup for concerns when she fell over and couldn't get up. They told me she was dehydrated. They never told me she was in bad condition the next morning. The morning vet never called until I called them. I was told she had a seizure during the night and another early morning. They said she was "sedated"well I picked up my dog 3/4ths dead. The vet couldn't tell me what's wrong and proceeded to throw a bunch of things out there that were ridiculous, saying he needed to go over her profile. Her chart should have already been gone through. I felt very accused of not feeding my dog when he said she was " so skinny" "when's the last time she drank" which was not true. She's a teacup and gets all the food and water she wants. She LIVED like a princess. She's always been a small pup. I got a totally different story from the vet the night I brought her there and a totally different story from the morning vet and did have to put her down 2 days after bringing her to this place. The issue involves the misdiagnosis and mishandling by Lafayette Animal Care Center of a three year old female Alaskan Malamute with mild hip dysplasia. Briefly, her hind leg weakness (which advanced to paraplegia), blown out pupils (which advanced to blindness), and extreme pain to touch was consistently misdiagnosed as orthopedic related (poor joints, torn ACLS) instead of a neurological cause (correct diagnosis of MUE). The discussion of an alternative diagnosis was never considered, despite ongoing decline. On both Feb. 17 late October of this year. Denali presented with hind leg weakness, severe pain to touch, and blown out pupils. On February 17th, Dr. Patrick diagnosed her as having joint disease; her mild hip dysplasia was already known. Medacam and adequin injections were prescribed. Then late October (the 29th) Dr. Sanders saw her for symptoms of severe pain, hind leg weakness, and blown out pupils. She diagnosed torn or partial ACL tears in both hind legs. Later that same day, my neighbor who is an orthopedic surgeon observed Denali's gait and behavior and felt that in no way was this related to joint issues but rather neurological causes. On the following day, Denali's condition worsened to hind leg paralysis, extreme pain (she was literally crying out constantly), and blindness. I called Lafayette Vet to inform them of her worsening condition but never heard back from a vet. Only the front desk returned the call with the suggestion of her going for ACL repair surgery asap. The next day (Nov. 1st), it took myself and three neighbors to get Denali in my vehicle to go to Laf. Vet. The person who initially took my call that Sunday morning suggested that I could put her in my SUV myself using a towel to help lift her. Once my neighbor and myself arrived at Laf. Vet., we told the staff at the front desk that Denali was paralyzed, had blown out pupils, was in extreme pain, and needed to be brought in immediately. The front desk staff were like 'ok whatever we suggested already an orthopedic specialist'. After nearly an hour of pleading for someone to take her in, Dr. Ryan came out to look at her. The first words out of his mouth was a quote: " I would not take my dog inside of that building'". My neighbor and I proceeded on I10 east while waiting for a connection to be made for a vet hospital to take Denali (LSU or MedVet in New Orleans). LSU was not able to take her due to lack of staff (that is, orthopedic staff, since the diagnosis of torn ACLS was still being used) , so we proceeded to MedVet in New Orleans. Thankfully, within a matter of minutes they were able to tell that her condition was neurological. Subsequent testing revealed MUE. MedVet placed a call to Dr. Sanders (Dr. Angie) the following Tuesday to discuss Denali's neurological decline. I do not see a note in Denali's chart that Dr. Angie returned their call(s). She remained at MedVet for a week, and returned home after 7 days requiring an intense program of medications and rehab. Precious time was lost starting back in February in getting treatment for her MUE before it reached this point of neurological deterioration. MedVet has continued to take charge of Denali's case at both their and my request. By insisting that her condition was orthopedic related, and not entertaining the possibility of another cause, this healthy dog has been reduced to half of what she was. There are plenty of treatments for MUE that can control the condition, and produce remission depending on how early it is caught. A proper, timely diagnosis would have improved her functional health and prognosis significantly. I want to publicly thank Medvet of New Orleans for their fast diagnosis, and for their vets, especially Dr. Jennifer Marshall and Dr. Brigette Mcatee and the nursing staff (especially Ellia) for calling me 24/7 with complete updates on her condition. I also want to thank Texas A&M's Dr. Nicholas Jeffery for his intervention as well. I hope that no dog owner ever has to go through this. Followup: "Dr." Patrick has left two voicemails of a harassing nature on my phone. He and his staff have also lied to their malpractice insurance company in regards to this case. This is my response: Thank you for your response, however, Denali was not referred to MedVet by Lafayette Animal "Care Center" on the basis of her neurological decline, but rather she was referred first to the orthopedic clinic at LSU for bilateral ACL reconstruction surgery, followed by a referral to Baton Rouge Animal Specialist for the same procedure. MedVet in New Orleans was last suggested for the same procedure. The fact that a CNS related condition was never considered, despite obvious outward symptoms that suggested a neurological condition vs an orthopedic condition is the basis for my current complaint in regards to her Feb. exam on the 17th of this year and her exam in the later part of this October. Now they want to overcharge the person and euthanize a dog for snapping at a vets face when clearly it was the vets fault for moving to quickly with an INJURED STRAY DOG!!! Completely inhuman and money hungry! Truly sad and I will never bring a stray or my babies here! I recommend going somewhere that cares more about the animal then a pay down. I'm livid for this poor scared animal. If you don't care about animals get a different job. Completely heartbroken for this poor baby. We were passing through town and decided to stop in because our puppy hasn't been feeling well. We were a walk in and were immediately seen. Dr. Patrick was super knowledgeable and helpful. Not only was he good with our pup, but gave helpful training tips, as our pup is a dominate puppy, and we've had difficulty with stopping her from biting. Best vet's office I've ever seen! They truly care and love every animal that comes through the door. They have a grooming salon and a pet resort that is attached to the veterinary building. The kennels where the dogs are boarded are very clean, large and comfortable. They do anything and everything they can to make you pet feel comfortable no matter what he/she is there for. I have one dog who is the nicest, friendliest and calmest dog I've ever owned ... Until he sees the metal table in the exam room. He begins to growl, breathe heavily, flail around, and basically becomes uncontrollable. They work together to try to do anything and everything they can to calm him down and make him feel comfortable. Unfortunately he requires sedation, but they're still very loving and friendly. Some vet's offices become annoyed and frustrated with dogs that get so nervous and stressed in the exam room... Not here. I would recommend this vet to anyone who is looking for a new vet, or is unsure about their current vet. If they're more expensive than your vet, I assure you it's worth it. We've used LVCC for all of our dogs. The doctors treat you like family, and they go out of their way to take the utmost care of your pet. Last year, when our older Golden had surgery, they took the time to come in on the weekend, after hours, to let us check on her. They also called with daily, sometimes hourly, updates on her status. The "resort" side is amazing as well. One of the dogs has special needs, and they've always taken special care of her. Not only are the doctors and nurses excellent, but the staff is friendly, competent, and knows how to deal with frantic and nervous pet parents. Honestly, our dogs LOVE going to the vet. We DO NOT recommend Lafayette Veterinary Care Center! We brought our dog Diesel there February 2018 because he had an adverse reaction to fleas in this area. The location is clean and the nurses are very nice but they are very expensive. We decided to use them anyway because of the recommendations we received from friends. Our first visit would end up costing almost $600.00 and we did not get any shots or tests! One thing we did get was a prescription for flea and heart worm protection good thru 9/30/19. Well, six months later (08/2018) we renew Diesels prescription for heart worms and fleas thru Chewy.com and get a call from LVCC saying they would not allow it because they want to see him again and charge us more money. Mind you the script is good thru 2019. They say they have to do a heart worm test first and I responded you already gave us the script and didn't give Diesel the test the first time? There response was its $225 additional cost for another visit, if you want to keep the prescription. What! THEY WOULD RATHER YOUR DOG SUFFER THAN LET YOU SAVE $70.00 AT CHEWY.COM. Your pets are in the best care imaginable here. I moved to Florida around 5 and a half years ago and have not found a single vet that I trust nearly as much as I do in the vets at Lafayette Veterinary Care. And recently was even more in awe of their compassion and care. From the time I was an infant and can even remember, Dr. Doiron and Dr. Plauche took care of every pet I've ever had. Dr. Doiron unfortunately passed away a number of years ago, but Dr. Plauche has never failed to have the same mentality and ethical practices in veterinary medicine. As he expanded his practice, he added more fabulous doctors such as Dr. Angie Sanders and Dr. Bordelon. Both of whom I can not say enough great things about. Recently my 8 and a half year old male purebred Maine Coon cat passed away from unknown reasons. The only possible explanation we have is he may have had an acromegaly, in which the pituitary gland over grows... My mother took our precious Yeti to 2 different veterinarians in the Orlando area, and barely anything was done. Trying to think outside of the horrible resources given to us, my mother called Lafayette Veterinary Care and spoke to our good friend Ms. Kaylin who immediately asked Dr. Bordelon to review Yeti's blood work results. Dr. Bordelon helped in every way possible from such a far distance away. Unfortunately our sweet Yeti passed away, and our hearts will forever be broken. Yeti saw Dr. Plauche when we first brought him home (at that time we still lived in Lafayette) and stole everyone's hearts there as well. But even though he was brought to 2 different vets locally, the ONLY phone call and sympathy card we received was from Lafayette Veterinary Care. It's a small gesture, but when you love your pets as much as we do... it means absolutely everything. I highly recommend Lafayette Veterinary Care Center to anyone in the Lafayette Louisiana and surrounding area.... My husband and I are recent first time puppy owners. We asked around for a few days for affordable vets. One recommended bringing her to the vet inside PETCO because of the price (a traveling vet that comes every few weeks). After checking some reviews of local vets, I started calling around for prices. LVCC was the first place I called. The receptionist that answered seemed to be so happy with her job and such a pet lover. After answering some general questions about the prices and telling her a little about Sammie, I mentioned about her recent stomach issues. She immediately showed concern that Sammie had an intestinal parasite. She encourage me to make an appointed for that afternoon. After I explained that I didn't get off until 7 and wouldn't be able to make it, she explained that they stay open until 10 pm. I made the appointment for that night. We live 30 minutes away from the clinic and Sammie isn't used to the car ride thing yet. Needless to say, she arrived very nervous. The staff there is so incredibly loving and the facility is spotless. They all showed her so much attention that she forgot all about the car ride. Just as the receptionist thought, they found that Sammie had roundworms which they explained was not uncommon for puppies her age. Dr. Plauche spent the time to explain the ins and outs of owning a puppy with me. He went over everything from potty training, to the food she should be eating, to pet insurance. He answered so many questions that I didn't even know I had. Sammie left happy and is feeling much better. I am so incredibly impressed with LVCC. You can tell that every employee has such an amazing heart. I kind of wanted to work there myself! The next day I brought Sammie to PETCO to have her nails trimmed. When they gave her back to me, Sammie was shaking and crying. The cashier explained that it's probably because she doesn't like to have her paws touched. While putting her in the car I realized the real reason she was crying. I noticed that some of her nails were bleeding and they all seemed to be different lengths. I already knew that I made a good decision bring her to LVCC, but that experience definitely confirmed it. read more

We discovered LVCC under the unfortunate circumstance of having our beloved Beagle, Andouille, diagnosed with bladder cancer. From day one the Vets at LVCC were compassionate, thorough and honest with our options and the prognosis. We elected to go the surgery and chemo route and were able to have a full year with our girl. We felt as though she got the best care possible and very eternally grateful for all they did. Unbelievably, within 3 months another of our Beagle, Mira, was diagnosed with the exact same cancer and, again, we elected to go the route of surgery and chemo. From day one the prognosis with her was not good but between their care and ours, we were able to get her through the crisis and had almost a whole year with her, also, that we would not have had. They have been available and caring, celebrating the victories and grieving the losses with us through 2 years of cancer treatments. In the end, Dr. Patrick came to our house to put Mira to rest. Now there is the added benefit of LVCC being open 24/7, which is priceless. In our case, every time we have an "emergency" it's night or a weekend. Words cannot express the gratitude to Lafayette Veterinary Care Center, Dr Patrick and staff for the immediate care we received this morning for my daughter and very ill puppies who were only 4 days old. She had lost 6 out of 9 puppies sporadically since Monday with no answers, concern or compassion from her established Vet. One phone call this am, an awaiting staff upon our arrival and within 5 min, Dr Patrick had diagnosed and offered the recommended treatment for these puppies. Although it wasn't the answer we hoped for, it answered our questions that we desperately were searching for since their birth. They reassured my daughter that this was a virus from the mother and the outcome was unavoidable and not her fault as the staff from her original vet had insinuated as a contributing factor.
