Went to brunch at this place for Mother's Day. Service was okay and the restaurant is spacious and in a cute location. I didn't order a Cajun dish, but instead opted for wings. I had a grand experience at Lafayette's. I went Valentine's Day weekend and there was already a crowd for the Tina Turner experience. The staff sat us quickly and promptly came over to introduce themselves. The tables were set up nicely and everyone was having an amazing time. Now my food was delicious. The spring rolls with each sauce were amazing. The midtown Mac and cheese with bacon and salmon have so much flavor but it was overwhelming and they didn't skip out on the cheese sauce. The jambalaya pasta was surprisingly sensational since I only go for more of an Alfredo pasta. This pasta had all of the Cajun flavors and PACKED with meat. The drinks were amazing. Just the right amount of alcohol to juice ratio. Make sure you try the beignets and cheesecake too! I really enjoy coming here. The servers and bartenders are great. They are really efficient, nimble, and have quite the lovely attitudes each and every time I stop by. It's an unbelievable venue for a live show. The sound system will blister your eardrums, so if it's a big ticketed show be prepared. You may consider some ear protection. Shit, how did I get this damn old?? What am I even saying?!?!? I love the fact that you can see a live music and get some top notch food all at the same time. Most places you can only get one or the other. Not here man! I have never had a bad meal here, you can even get lamb chops that are perfectly prepared and stupid good. Lafayette Music room was the place we went to to meet mutual friends that we had known for years who were located here in Memphis. I didn't know what to expect about this place because this wasn't one of the places that was on my list of things to do. Since we were a table of 50 something women it was right in point for them to sing 80's music. I have to say I started singing, clapping and enjoying the music from my high school years. The guys singing in the band were our age as well and they could sing. Like really sing. My husband and I ordered burgers for Him and my son. I had the grilled salmon salad which was delicious. My 3 year old son was so excited when the band came on, so we stayed for a while so he could enjoy live music. This is a great spot for live music. I recommend coming for a show and getting some appetizers and cocktails, as their entree menu can be a bit more expensive. We tried the spring rolls and lettuce wraps, and the Anita bread as a side was incredible. They have recently updated their menu and it's quite impressive. The food was served hot, fresh and with just the right amount of seasoning. I ordered the fish sandwich combo served with mac & cheese. I also had several appetizers which consisted of potato wedges fries topped with cheese and bacon. The food was delicious. We went to see The Lucky 7 Brass Band, and they were so much fun! They did a 3-part set from 6-9pm, which started off with a brass bandy set and got progressively hyped! They got us eocking, bopping, and grooving on the dance floor. They played Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Outkast, C Lo, and a bunch of songs I never expected! It was an absolutely beautiful day to enjoy the patio and the live music from a distance. The Southern Hurricane drink was nice touch to people watching and enjoying the sun. The spring rolls were hot and crispy. The sweet chili and Thai sauces were nice added touches for an extra burst of flavor. The breakfast entree was nice and hot, with crispy bacon. It was cooked as asked and no extra seasoning was needed. The shrimp tacos were basic... I'll stick to eating tacos at a Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant because they weren't packed with flavor. I was disappointed in the venue. We went on a Saturday around 6 and stayed until 8 so we left before the 2nd scheduled band. We came in from Chicago to experience Memphis music and food. I felt like I was in in a Chicago suburb bar with the typical cover band. The worst part was the menu and the food. I think part of the problem were my high expectations. This is just middle if the road bar food! I ordered a hamburger (because nothing appealed to me) and 25 minutes later I get this meat patty between two EXTREMELY hard stale buns!! I had to ask the waiter for at least a new bun. He obliged with another stsle bun!! I took a few bites and gave up. My experience for both music and food was not good to the least. We made a reservation at 5:15 specifically to make happy hour fridays 4-6pm and paid the cover to sit for 45 mins assuming we would get the happy hour prices for drinks and appetizers. When we asked about it to the hostess and the waiter they both were unsure. She was new so giving her the benefit of doubt but little frustrated and their answer was there's new management. Good drinks, great service, and even better food! We sat outside, on the bottom floor, near the railing, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Even from the outside, the live music was amazing and really added to the atmosphere. Unfortunately, there were some unpleasant moments on this day, like being in close proximity to a loud, very drunken 'Karen' , and witnessing a few other customers being loud, disrespectful, difficult individuals, as you'll find anywhere and everywhere these days. Even still, this isn't a review of the citizens of Memphis. This is a review of this restaurant. We initially tried to make a reservation for BB Kings restaurant for the Fourth of July, but everything was booked so the reservation site led us to other similar venues and Lafayette's popped up. I thought it was in the same area of Beale Street but it happens to be in a cute little neighborhood about 10 minutes away with other restaurants and the center for ballet. When we entered, the music was really loud so there was some repeated questions and head nodding but we were told there was a $5 cover and then we could be seated. There were tables on the main floor, the band on stage, and the waitress led us upstairs to another seating area which we were glad to see as to not be too close to stage. We had nice seats in the wrap around balcony like area and decided to get some strawberry lemonade with basil which was funny tasting and not worth $5. For the appetizer I got a cup of gumbo which was a kick spicy and better than typical restaurant gumbo but let's be real here, no one's touching authentic NOLA gumbo anywhere. I was craving pizza so I got a cheese pizza which had feta and I got a side of crawfish to top it with which was probably not worth the additional $3 but by George I put those little pieces of meat on that wood fired pizza and it was delicious! The atmosphere was great, the crowd was mostly middle aged to older. Some people were dancing in front of the band who's set was 80s rock ish. They were called Trunk Monkies. They were really good. Service and food are hit and miss, but its patio keeps me coming back. The service at LaFayette's is generally "adequate" (rarely better) and the food preparation is decent but inconsistent. A few personal favs are lettuce wraps, street tacos, and margherita pizza. For drinks: the white sangria is my go-to, but I've had several drinks here and their eclectic drink menu doesn't disappoint (although the ice/drink ratios could be better for $10/drink). I ate there today and wanted to review this particular visit but it was an unfavorable one, so my rating and review are averaged out. Today required a lot of patience. A hair in my food (they replaced the dish but never even apologized), shirmp tacos seasoned so heavily they were barely edible, and service so slow that I didn't even wait for my ticket--just left my payment in cash on the table. Fortunately, this isn't usually the case. You can't beat the ambiance inside or outside, though, and I'm certain this is what keeps people coming back. So, I am not sure how to write this. I was thoroughly upbraided by the manager at Lafayette's on Saturday night. Normally I am the person that supports restaurants and bars and tries to support our servers. Yet I had to put up with a manager speaking loudly at me, telling me I was rude. The whole story. We had reservations for 6 at 5:15. We do that often, bring a group out with us. We tend to be the ones that set things up. We were set in a table on the upper floor overlooking the stage. Not a bad table, but tight for 6. We ordered drinks and were chatting, but not long after, I noticed I was getting dripped on. The air conditioning in the ceiling was having an issue. It was also dripping on my neighbor at the table. I moved around but I couldn't get out of it. Collectively we decided we should move. There was no servers around, but there was a suitable table we could see not far away. We moved. Pandemonium! Once our server found us, we were told that table was reserved for a larger group later. OK, no problem. Please find us another table that doesn't have drips. So now they moved us downstairs. Still, no big deal. We had a table for 6 again that seemed OK. Now the problem seemed to be getting service. We felt that we were being ignored because we had been such a "problem". From the concensus of our group, I asked our server what seemed to be the holdup. He immediately brought over the manager. (Another sign of us being the problem group.) That' s when I was utterly berated by the manager for being a problem customer. We should not have moved before giving proper notification. Apparently our wait for service was not excessive. We got food at 6:55, we were there at 5:15. There were extenuating circumstances, but nevertheless, we waited. No apologies for any of our tribulations. So anyway, we survived. The music vibe was okay; however, as a first-time patron, the level of service provided by a particular young female bartender was sadly disappointing. She appeared to have an issue serving me as I stood at the bar. I waited at the bar for somewhere between 8 to 15 minutes while she served everyone around me and four patrons who walked up from behind me. On the 5th attempt, I interrupted and asked her if she saw me standing at the bar awaiting service. She appeared to lose her mind and was yelling in a belligerent manner proceeded by a repetitive "what do you want! what do you want?!, what do you want?! what?! what?! What?! Once she was done with her rant, I gave my order. My colleagues asked if all was okay, and I informed them not to worry. The 5th patron apologized and stated, "I'm so sorry, that was rude of her and no way to provide customer service." I thanked her while informing her it was not her fault, so no worries. It's disappointing to see some people in the business of customer relationship unable to control their emotions and show their bias. When she returned my card and receipt, she placed them on a wet surface and walked away. I had to ask the tall bartender guy next to her to reprint another copy I could sign. Overall, it's a quaint establishment in Midtown, but this particular bartender may need more training in relation to providing customer service and controlling her temper along with her appeared bias. read more

It's all in the Crab Dip! So, I saw the post on Instagram and knew that I had to try this dish. I mean I love Crabs and a dip ain't never hurt nobody, so why not? I visited Lafayette during lunch hours and it wasn't to crowded. The vibe was just right. I love how the restaurant is made overall with the two levels and the large stage for the live music that they have each night. So cool! Ok, now back to the Baked Crab Dip...it was AMAZING! I was able to taste all the ingredients so perfectly. They had just the right balance of cheese and crab meat. It is served with bread, so it's very filling if you are eating alone.
