Lafayette's Music Room is always a good time! The ambiance has that perfect blend of laid-back and lively, especially when they have live music on the weekends that makes the whole space feel electric but I prefer going on the weekdays. Service was friendly and attentive from the jump -- we never felt like we were waiting too long for anything. I got the Shirley Temple to sip on, which was simple but refreshing. For food, we ordered the crawfish pizza and the shrimp po' boy with fries -- both were delicious. The pizza had a nice kick and was packed with flavor, and the po' boy was crispy, well-seasoned, and came with perfectly golden fries. Great vibes all around -- definitely worth a stop if you're in Overton Squar

I had a grand experience at Lafayette's. I went Valentine's Day weekend and there was already a crowd for the Tina Turner experience. The staff sat us quickly and promptly came over to introduce themselves. The tables were set up nicely and everyone was having an amazing time. Now my food was delicious. The spring rolls with each sauce were amazing. The midtown Mac and cheese with bacon and salmon have so much flavor but it was overwhelming and they didn't skip out on the cheese sauce. The jambalaya pasta was surprisingly sensational since I only go for more of an Alfredo pasta. This pasta had all of the Cajun flavors and PACKED with meat. The drinks were amazing. Just the right amount of alcohol to juice ratio. Make sure you try the beignets and cheesecake too! Overall this is a great place to come and have a good time, listen to great music, eat good and chill with others!

I really enjoy coming here. The servers and bartenders are great. They are really efficient, nimble, and have quite the lovely attitudes each and every time I stop by. It's an unbelievable venue for a live show. The sound system will blister your eardrums, so if it's a big ticketed show be prepared. You may consider some ear protection. Shit, how did I get this damn old?? What am I even saying?!?!? I love the fact that you can see a live music and get some top notch food all at the same time. Most places you can only get one or the other. Not here man! I have never had a bad meal here, you can even get lamb chops that are perfectly prepared and stupid good. Not many place can do that with their sole focus being on the food. Pizza, pastas, sandwiches, fish, it's all good man! We go through phases on this place for some reason, I am not sure why, but we haven't been a good minute. I'll be back soon and I enjoyed myself again last night. We have been here for brunch and it's solid as well. So don't sleep on that. '24 - 51/100

Great food and entertainment! $5 cover charge and the music is *loud* (but really good!) We sat outside on the upstairs patio so we could talk and still enjoy the music. Bartenders/ servers were attentive and food came out fast and fresh!

Lafayette Music room was the place we went to to meet mutual friends that we had known for years who were located here in Memphis. I didn't know what to expect about this place because this wasn't one of the places that was on my list of things to do. This place was actually located maybe a mile from the Airbnb that I was staying at so it was perfect as far as location which is in Midtown. We got there relatively early about 4:00 on a weekday. It was next to empty when we got there however it soon filled up with people. We ordered drinks we order appetizers and we eventually ordered food. We all liked our food for the most part and there was plenty of it. I have it listed at the end. What we didn't know we were going to like but did was the live music band. The band was everything. Since we were a table of 50 something women it was right in point for them to sing 80's music. I have to say I started singing, clapping and enjoying the music from my high school years. The guys singing in the band were our age as well and they could sing. Like really sing. Fried Calamari Served with fried banana peppers, roasted red peppers, and sriracha mayo- It took forever for this to come out for some reason. I'm grateful it was a lot of us talking so much that we dang near didn't pay attention but yes it took a long time for an appetizer. The server kept checking on us and apologizing however. The calamari was seasoned so we'll and was so good. My husband and I ordered burgers for Him and my son. I had the grilled salmon salad which was delicious. My 3 year old son was so excited when the band came on, so we stayed for a while so he could enjoy live music. It's one of our favorite spots as a family, but we go early before they check ID at the door when it becomes a bar. The service is always great, prompt and friendly.

This is a great spot for live music. I recommend coming for a show and getting some appetizers and cocktails, as their entree menu can be a bit more expensive. We tried the spring rolls and lettuce wraps, and the Anita bread as a side was incredible. The rest of the food was okay but not mind blowing, so I think the real reason to come is for a musical experience. They also have many events like poker night on Wednesdays. We saw Da MTown Band play and they were awesome! I hope Lafayette's invites them back.

They have recently updated their menu and it's quite impressive. The food was served hot, fresh and with just the right amount of seasoning. I ordered the fish sandwich combo served with mac & cheese. I also had several appetizers which consisted of potato wedges fries topped with cheese and bacon. The food was delicious. The service I received was excellent. The server informed me of the specials on tonight's menu. I loved the coolness and relaxing atmosphere in the bar. I have always enjoyed this restaurant and since they have revised the menu I plan on definitely returning...

We went to see The Lucky 7 Brass Band, and they were so much fun! They did a 3-part set from 6-9pm, which started off with a brass bandy set and got progressively hyped! They got us eocking, bopping, and grooving on the dance floor. They played Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Outkast, C Lo, and a bunch of songs I never expected! The service was excellent and the food was good. Overall, it was a great vibe and I would definitely recommend this place for live music, food, drinks and a good time!

    Mariah M.

No part of our experience was negative so I gave 5 stars. Pretzel is huge but very good. Chopped salad was really good and my husbands burger was great! We went around lunch time when it's not busy and no bands. Best time to take kids. Music videos playing were fun!

We went on a Monday night so there was not a big crowd. We didn't feel like going downtown so we thought we would visit this location. Super cool building to listen to some good music. The service was amazing and was only second to the music. There was a $5 cover charge per person which I think was a steal given the quality of entertainment. We will visit again the next time we are in Memphis!

Solid 3.5. Came in a Friday for lunch. Patio seating on a nice day was great. My server was awesome and attentive. My drink was strong but delicious. The food was just okay. My fries were cold and the shrimp on my poboy was barely heated. Gumbo was ok. Overall I think people come here for the drinks and vibes. Would definitely come back, but not for the food.

Ask the Community - Lafayette's Music Room

Anyone have any tips for getting a good seat for a band that starts at 11:00 p.m. on a Saturday night? Driving 3 hours just for the show and need all the help I can get.

Lafayette's is small with few/no seats I'd call "bad." Not sure if reservations are taken. Worst case scenario: there is plenty of standing room at the stage, and I've used it!

The owner is super sweet and inviting. She made sure to go around and speak to everyone that was there. During my visit, I did order food. I had the chess club sandwich. It is served on white bread and is filled with salami, bacon, gouda, lettuce pickle and onions. It was ok. It took forever for it to come out. People who had arrived way after us received their food quicker than we did. I had to go to the bar several times to ask about our food. I found out that the bartender was also the cook, so that semi explains the delay. I had a salad along with my sandwich. It was ok. I couldn't eat it all because the dressing was not good. I do want to state that it is a cool place to dive into if you are looking for something to do throughout the week. I not sure if the food is meant to be the central focus, but they so have vegan options in addition to a full craft and alcoholic beverage menu.

I feel like this place embodies the essence of my inner peace somehow. It was born as a overflow bar for Iris from the lore I hear. To me, as I see it, this place became Chef Kelly's escape to reality as far as food, atmosphere, and service are concerned. I think this place presents his personality in his relaxed more chill version. If you have ever been to Iris, specifically, when it was next door, you would understand what I mean. When it was the tiny place it had some kind of pretentiousness to it that just turned me off. I only ate there once. It would take weeks to get a reservation before he moved it and the constant limelight had to be a lot of pressure. This place though.... I could come here three times a week no issue. In fact, I actually wish that I could eat here three days a week. Second Line is moving soon. They are going back to being next door to Iris in the newer Laurelwood location. In some ways I wonder if Chef needs that jovial comfort of a place next to Iris to keep him grounded. I do hope the charm of this is somehow transferred, but looking out the windows into Cooper the last time I was here Dec '25, just will not be a possibility in that shopping center it's headed to. That will be lost. He's a great guy! Hell of a Chef! World class employer! Tremendous philanthropist! A leader in the City of Memphis! Please go support him in the new location. Now.... All that BS and I ain't said shit about the food and why I like this place so much. If you scroll through my photos you will see almost every dish that has ever been on the menu here. Some are fantastic! All are very good! I have had nothing but great food here for many years! I have only had one bad meal here. Catfish Picante and it is long gone it seems! I wrote a long ass draft I never published (thank god), after that visit. I do believe it was my first time here and I almost didn't return. What a waste that would have been. My favorites now are Sweet Heat Oysters, Chicken Livers with pepper jelly, that lobster knuckle sandwich from waaaay back, spinach Madeline, and of course... the Red Beans and Rice. The desserts are always killer as well. I guess I'll catch you at the new place soon! Love you guys!! '25 - Finale
