I thought I loved my Subaru Impreza until recently. I have a 2017 Subaru Impreza with 68,000 miles on it. I took it in for an oil change and LaFontaine recommended a we change the spark plugs which they would charge more than $400 for! It was run fine so we declined. Then it was making a slight humming noise in rear end. We asked them to take a test drive but they wanted $150 for the test drive - we declined. Absolutely will never work with LaFontaine again. I sold my vehicle to them on Friday and they cut a check right then. However, when I went to deposit the check the following morning as the bank has already closed on Friday, I was told that they couldn't complete the transaction as the check was not issued. I immediately reached out to LaFontaine but was told they couldn't do anything until Monday but they would have someone call me Monday morning. Come Monday, I did not receive a call and had to call 4 separate times before I finally reached the manager. Each time the associate told me the manager was busy but would call me back asap. That did not happen. When I finally did speak to the manager, I was told this was the first he was hearing of it. I've been bringing my cars to LaFontaine Subaru for over 10 years. My first Subaru, which didn't have an extended warranty, lasted 150,000 miles with no problems at all--it was actually an ice storm that finally took it out. By contrast, my newer Subaru had under 20,000 miles on it when I was told during a routine maintenance visit that the engine needed to be rebuilt. Less than 20,000 miles after that rebuild, the car already started making concerning noises--something I never experienced with my last one. A friend of mine, at another LaFontaine location, went through the exact same thing with her low mileage Jeep and extended warranty. She rebuilt her engine, and her car was never the same. She spent thousands trying to keep it on the road and was stranded multiple times. With the way my Subaru is acting now, I feel like I'm about to face the same situation. I don't drive much because I work from home. After watching what she went through, I've decided not to risk it. I'll be taking my car to a different Subaru service department in another town. Sadly, LaFontaine has lost my trust. It's taken me a year to write this because it still wakes me up at night, and I don't want anyone else to go through what we've gone through. Now that it's happened to me too, I can't help but wonder if these rebuilds were even really necessary. My Subaru hasn't run the same since. If you have an extended warranty and are told your engine needs to be rebuilt, I strongly recommend getting a second opinion first. read more

Where do I start? We moved to Metro Detroit about a year ago and we were a one car family that whole time. Well, IT WAS TIME for a second vehicle. Khelsey Jefferson was amazing. We were absolutely transparent we were 1.) looking for the exact right car, 2.) at the right price and interest rate, 3.) we were going to be shopping around multiple dealerships for the right price and model/make, 4.) and we would be taking a long time to make sure we were making the right choice. It took us two months to narrow it down. We put Khelsey through it all with non-stop questions, shopping all these different makes, models, pre-owned and new, etc. She was extremely patient, friendly, and attended to every single question, request. This was my first time fully buying a car on my own, and she made navigating the entire process easier to understand so I could make a mindful, solid decision. Not only was she really helpful, she was extremely COOL about how nervous and ignorant I was about buying a car. The process was so smooth once we locked in a car, price and rate. She's honest, transparent, straight-talking, and not out to just grab a buck. At the end of the day, I could feel that she wanted me in the right vehicle for me and my family and she did as much as she could to make sure it was exactly what we wanted and for a great price. Most other sales people I talked to felt like they were *just trying to sell* me something, rather than actually caring about a huge financial decision and whether it's the right one. This dealership violated me. Car dealing has always been sleazy, but I'm still shocked by this dealership's complete lack of pride. Incomplete cleaning, old wipers, cleared emissions codes, and a key that fell apart after three turns of the ignition were not what I expected from a dealership. But making me wait hours and then sending me off in a snowstorm with frozen rear brakes demonstrates downright contempt for their customers. Of course, when I returned to their dealership, they replaced the frozen rear brake calipers. They called it a "favor" to me since they legally had to do nothing. I don't think anyone except LaFontaine calls a used car meeting basic safety standards a "favor." Do not make my mistake. Do not buy from LaFontaine. Their only cares are money and the barest form of legality. You are worth more than how they will mistreat you, and they certainly do not deserve your money. read more

The mechanic proceeded to tell me that because I didn't get my oil changed at Subaru I can't prove it's not due to my negligence and I'd have to pay for it. Total scam. Purchased a used/demo Outback I found online from Matthew David after a referral from Robert Lafontaine Lincoln Flint. I test drove the car and looked it over including under the hood. I didn't notice any damage on the hood decal at that time. After the car was detailed and I drove home, I noticed a blemish/chip/scratch on the vinyl decal. My husband also found a bolt missing from the bumper fascia near the trailer hitch. I contacted service and was told to return the next morning. Service put in the missing bolt but it still isn't right. Service sent me down to collision for an estimate to forward to Matthew David for approval said it should not be a problem. Collision was great. Took photos, wrote up the estimate (over $500), and told me they would be in touch. This was Friday. On Monday, Collision contacted me and told me to contact LaFontaine Subaru because they were told Matthew David no longer works there and the general sales manager Alexander Johnson was not familiar with me as a customer (of course you know I'm a customer. I'm receiving emails and regular mail from your dealership constantly). I reached out to Robert my original sales advisor to see if he could help. He communicated with me initially but then he ghosted also. The biggest issue I have with this issue is the complete dishonesty and stonewalling I encountered from this sales team. Matthew David is still an employee according to their website and the person that told me he was in a meeting when I tried to reach him by phone. I understand I don't know if the decal was damaged during detailing or on the drive home. They could just say you can't prove it happened during detailing so we are not going to cover it. But to LIE and IGNORE a customer speaks volumes of your business practices as a dealership. I knew better because I had a negative experience with LaFontaine Ford Flushing a few years ago and should not have done business with any LaFontaine dealerships again. I bought a used Subaru Outback last May. The closing paperwork was sent to me by email. I waited a month to download the paperwork and my password that was set up no longer worked. I contacted my salesperson who stated their finance department would get back to me. Never happened. Emailed the salesman-no response. Emailed the general manager who gave his contact info in another Yelp review-no luck. Call to ask for the general manager listed on a current sales post card I received from them. I was told he was no longer there as well as my salesmen no longer worked there. I was told I would have to come down the request the paperwork again. This would entail an over 2 hour round trip. The service-intake staff is always professional, friendly and fast getting me squared away during vehicle drop-off. Service usually takes about an hour for the routine oil change and inspection and they're always COVID prepared down to disinfecting your vehicle with a mister before they drive it back. After driving 45 minutes to the dealership, they informed us in person that they made a data entry error and could no longer honor their original offer. Stay away from this dealer, when purchasing a new vehicle. Bate and switch. Ordered new Subaru from the factory via VIP program. We agreed on the price and options. Put the deposit down. Waited few months for the vehicle to come in. Finally, got a call when it arrived. When I went in to do a paperwork, the price increased by almost $1,500 from what was agreed on. The increase is for "diamond windshield coverage". By the way, windshield is already covered by insurance. I asked them to remove this. The manager said that it would not make financial sense for them to sell it without this option. That is half of the VIP discount! I told them that they violated signed agreement (have a copy of it). They did not care. I ask for deposit back and got it quickly. That tells me they knew they were wrong. Waisted two month with them. I will let Subaru VIP know about this experience. read more

Our 20 y.o. Daughter upgraded & bought herself a car here, while setting the deal an extended warranty was offered, she bought it, that was figured into her final price. Just shy of three weeks later, we were heading north for a four-day weekend excursion. We were an hour away from home loaded with luggage coolers and pets when her check engine light came on and she immediately pulled over and shut the vehicle off, We were all traveling together and when we pulled around her car and seen fluid leaking we knew there was a problem, mind you it's 80+ degrees outside. We called for a tow truck there was an hour wait just to see if one could be sent to our location. So we decided to go into Jackson Michigan and find a rental trailer, to load it up and take it back home.And that's what we did. We continued to our vacation location with her driving a different car and had a great weekend. Upon returning home the LaFontaine dealer was called the The situation was explained. Spoke to the head of service department and made plans to trailer it to them since she had the extended warranty, this is when we were told that the warranty wasn't in a fact for 30 days after purchase and The representative that we spoke with was leaving on vacation and wouldn't return for 10 days so there is that's her car at the dealership for 10 days until this man returns. So once he's back to work connection was made conversation went like this while we pulled it in it's a trans line and that's not covered but us sitting on the side of the road without a way of inspecting or raising it on a lift had no idea where all this fluid was pouring out of bottom line they wanted $890 to replace a line and add transmission fluid. Needless she say we are here today picking it up and trailering it back home so we can do our own repairs and we're told that now the trans is no longer under warranty since it had an issue mind you this issue came three weeks after purchase and they verified that their dealership went over the vehicle with their all point inspection and yet we were told the transmission line was rusted through. I had an absolutely horrible experience with this dealership and the men working there. I would not recommend it to anyone even my worst enemy. I cannot say enough bad things about this place and quite frankly am appalled at their business ethics. Let me back track and give some context to this abysmal review. My husband and I bought a used 2015 Subaru Forester last Thursday evening with seized calipers. The car couldn't even make it home without overheating. It was absolutely unsafe to drive. We immediately took it to the closest brake repair place, because it was unsafe to drive, where they informed us of several break issues that needed to be addressed immediately. When I called Subaru to ask if this was standard operating procedure they would not return phone calls or emails. Finally I spoke with a man named Robert because the elusive Scott could not be bothered to deal with my concerns. He told me there is no way this was possible because they always do a safety check. So it was their word against mine and boiled right down to a pissing match between me and a scheming used car salesman. They expressed several times that I was wrong and that my experience was invalid. Not only did they sell me a car that was unsafe to drive, they also tried to gaslight me into believing what happened to me was my fault and if I had made better decisions during the process this situation would have never happened. I was the one to blame and they did not so much as apologize let alone take any responsibility. It was a very abusive customer service relationship and I am disgusted with their abilities to deal with customer services related issues. I would not recommend this place to anyone. You would be better buying a car off the side of the road than going to this scheming sleazy dealership. read more

I've been taking my WRX to LaFontaine for its oil changes ever since I bought it and I've always received great service! The only time it took a while for a service advisor to help me, they gave me a discount on the service for making me wait, and I definitely felt that my time was valued. The past few times I've been, Lance has been my service advisor, and he's always very friendly and helpful with questions I have about the car/ services it might need. I've never gotten upsold on unnecessary services and they always explain what the car needs and why, so I feel very comfortable having my car worked on here. The 2 gripes that you might have with this place are that the wait time can tend to be longer than at a normal oil change shop, and that it tends to be a bit more expensive for the oil change. While these are true points, the peace of mind of knowing you're at a credible location might be worth it for you. The oil change for my car usually costs around $70-80, and the price for a full synthetic oil change at any normal oil change location wouldn't be much different, so it's worth it for me to come to Lafontaine. Make sure to check the website for service specials before you stop by (or at least before you check out), they often have coupons for the service you were planning to do anyway, and it's an easy way to save $10+, all you have to do is show it to your service advisor on your phone. read more

Chuck helped me get in and out, and honestly I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I originally came to this location because the one closest to me (Dunning Subaru) had no availability for a week. Needless to say, my experience here made it worth the extra 20-mile drive. I'll start off with some of the things that I felt could be improved on and then go on with what I enjoyed. I was uncomfortable to see so many people in one office area going unmasked. I understand that it was a bigger space and with more people getting vaccinated it should be less of a concern, but that's the main point that made this review four and not five stars. Everyone wore masks in any area where there were customers. But especially with the rise in cases in Michigan and the multiple signs around the location denoting the need for masks, it would've been nice to see 100% mask usage by the employees while they were inside. Another thing was that while they were calling customers, sometimes the calls were made on speakerphone and I wouldn't love it if my call was blasted in public. I really enjoyed the service; every employee that I talked to was kind, professional and approachable. A special thanks to Eric, who was my point of contact while my car was being serviced. He did a great job explaining all of the work my car needed done and made it clear which services were not essential. I also had not originally arranged to have a loan car, but when I found the lobby a little noisier than anticipated, he was so helpful in finding one for me. Everyone was great, but I will return to this location just because of how Eric treated me. read more

This review is a long time coming. My parents and I tried leasing a Subaru Forrester from Jason Fox and his associate Nichole Dobbins at LaFontaine back in April/May. Key word: tried. We went to LaFontaine because of how close the dealership was to the house. First impressions seemed promising as Ms. Dobbins gave us a great quote in April but that's where the professionalism ended. Since we weren't able to pick up the car until the beginning of May due to our work schedules, Ms. Dobbins wouldn't be able to honor the lease that we agreed to in April. In order to honor the April agreement, we would have to pay a deposit to lock down the lease agreement. We paid the deposit to secure the agreement and pick up the car at the beginning of May but were then told by Mr. Fox and Ms. Dobbins that the vehicle would have to be signed for and picked up in April, regardless of the deposit that was paid earlier. Not only was this inconvenient but utter nonsense as the deposit worked to benefit both parties. Mr. Fox then sent a follow-up email to my mother concerned that her experience wasn't ideal. Per his words in the email--which we have--he wanted her to provide the "highest remarks" on the manufacturer's survey to be mailed out in a few weeks after car pickup. We didn't respond as the request was ridiculous. How we rate LaFontaine's service is up to our own discretion. Upon entering the dealership to sign and pick up the vehicle, my parents were confronted by Jason personally to ensure that he would get the highest remarks on the survey. Otherwise, he wasn't going to lease the vehicle to us. My parents demanded the deposit back and instead went to Glassman Automotive (a VERY positive experience). It's not like car dealers have a sterling reputation in general but Mr. Fox and Ms. Dobbins really brought it to new lows. read more

What a waste of time... we called ahead to let them know the exact vehicle that we were interested in and told them we would be coming in to take a closer look at / test drive it, and when we arrived we sat around for 25 minutes waiting for the guy to find the keys... which he never found. Told him we would like to test drive any of the Outbacks they had in stock just to see if we liked the way they drive, and the 'salesman' literally said 'what's the point of that - it's going to be a $10,000 different car' - salesman of the year right there. We found the car that we liked and went back on Monday, September 27th to buy it. While we were waiting for the papers to be drawn up we went out to look at the car again and found the front bumper was cracked. We did not see this damage on Saturday and the CarFax showed "NO ACCIDENTS". We were told they would fix the car if it did not exceed $1700.00 and they were going to continue with the purchase documents. Both my name and my son's name were going on the title so my son had to fill out paperwork as well (he lives in California). We left the dealership THREE HOURS LATER with the understanding that they were going to call us the next day to let us know if they were going to repair or replace the bumper. The next day the salesman called to say that they were going to "repair" the bumper but not "replace" it - we said we wanted to see the completed repair before we finalized the sale. FOUR DAYS PASSED AND THREE UNRETURNED PHONE CALLS TO THE SALESMAN when he finally returned my last call on Saturday, October 2nd. He informed us that they were NOT FIXING THE CAR and that he knew this on Monday night but didn't know how to tell us. He said he "couldn't man up" to telling us. THEY STILL HAD US SIGN ALL OF THE PAPERWORK KNOWING FULL WELL THEY WERE NOT GOING TO FIX THE CAR. I asked for all of our financial/personal information back (social security #s, drivers licenses, etc.) and he told me it had (supposedly) already been shredded - this was done without our knowledge or authorization and, of course, no assurance that the shredding actually took place. I asked if the car was still available and he said it was sold on Friday. My wife left a message for the General Manager on Saturday, October 2nd as I wanted to give the dealership the benefit of the doubt. The manager called me on 10/4/2021 and said that he contacted the dealership and they "pretty much had the same story". He told me to go on the LaFontaine website to see if there were any other cars that we would be interested in but, after much discussion, we decided that we do not want to go through another experience with LaFontaine. Preying on consumers because of the market. $5000 markup over MSRP before all the other fees and what-not were added on. They also call the 5000 dollar markup a "family deal." I was given five different definite dates the vehicle would be delivered on and some maybe dates sprinkled in between. Reserved the car when it was "in transit" and was initially told it would be there July 21st. It finally came on September 6th after I was given 3 other dates in between. Turned down an auto loan from my bank at 4.9% interest because I was told they could get me a better rate. Ended up getting a worse one. All-in-all I had a terrible experience.
